That's how I found out I was allergic to shellfish and seafood. The fish didn't smell right when it was fried to me and I didn't want to try it. I was told it was chicken and woke up with a swollen face 😭

if you are that deep in the dungeon you cannot be a picky eater, at least have a bite. Yes if you are on the surface and have access to whatever food you want it is different, but when options are that limited, and you are in a group, you have to at least try the food before you say no.

The only flaw I find in Dungeon Meshi is that it starts straight up with the characters having to eat monsters. But since the story didn't introduce its universe laws prior to the start of the show, the readers/viewers have no way to contextualize how unnatural it is to eat monsters in this World. We only realize how much of a bunch of weirdos the protagonists are when we see other characters being weirded out by their eating habits. Imagine you're watching Jujutsu Kaisen and in the middle of the series you see Yûji starting to cook curses as a dietary lifestyle. That's how weirded out you would have been if Dungeon Meshi had taken the time to contextualize normal people's diet into its plot prior to episode 1. That being said, the author being a huge DnD fan, she probably planned for her manga to work as a parody aimed at DnD fans who would contextualize it based on DnD standards.

You frame that as a detriment, and I frame that as depth. The viewer is given a status quo by the main cast early on that keeps things simple, and as the show goes on and you see more characters and the world itself, you realize it’s not as straightforward as you initially assumed. It’s a good technique used correctly in this show, and you’re upset it didn’t follow your expectations.

Loved the fact that Izutsumi doesn't have the stereotypical anime fanservice body. Last thing I expected to see was a beast girl with actual animal physiology, having no tiddy and multiple nipples like an actual cat would.

Roshi is questioning about why marcille is looking for her staff, it's because they skipped the panel in manga when she gets down to help laios but her stuff is stuck in the cave, that's why the scene bit confusing when she suddenly looking for a twig.

The Marcille one was the worst. Laios' you can probably excuse because dwarves are just way hairier than other races & what's "average" masculine to them is hyper-masculine to other races. There's some extra content in the manga that explains the shapeshifters, and it's explained that Senshi just grew up hearing really negative things about elves from the other dwarves around him, so he just had a really fucked up image of elves in his head.

Grow and it's not even close. If it's like the Barometz in DunMeshi, then it's literally just a plant and has no characteristics of a living animal other than looking like one. It'd also likely be easier to raise as you don't have to waste resources on feeding it & caring for it in the same way that you would a plant. Easier to process and store, too. I also wouldn't feel like I was murdering a pet every time I was hungry, so...

In episode 1, it's explained that the only people in this world who eat monsters regularly are criminals who are banished to live in the dungeon by the dungeon lord. Marcille said that they are usually weak from severe food poisoning (spewing from both ends lol) because normal people dont know how to properly prepare and cook monsters. This party is able to survive because they have Laois there to identify and take down the monsters and Senshi there to cook and preserve them.

If you want learn more about the world, then i highly encourage you to read the manga. It's chock full of cool worldbuilng and lore, that the anime studio just didn't have the time to put in. I mean you can only exposition dump for so long before your audience starts to get bored, so a lot of less important stuff just gets left out. The mangaka also made a bunch of cute little side comics, what if chapters, character interactions, and other extra's (like how the main characters get dressed as bonus material after every volume. They are typically either really funny or very informative about certain characters or aspects of the world. Anyway, i recomend reading it if you want so see more. :)

Fair, but it's shown that he's also dehumanizing her in the process. there's also a bonus comic in the manga where izustumi rates the party on how comfortable they are to sleep next to or cuddle with with Chilchuck being the highest rated due to his small size and warmth. Chil naturally isn't having any of it and Laios offers to let her sleep next to him instead so he can pet her. However Laios forgets what's appropriate to pet on a cat is not the same when you're interacting with a young teenage girl, and Chilchuck throws shit at him and let's her continue to sleep with him instead despite being uncomfortable

No and no. Balut is a fertilized DUCK/CHICKEN EGG embryo, and people don’t eat any kind of mammal fetuses (except Kutti Pi, an Indian dish made from a goat fetus. But this was also claimed as taboo in their culture). Lamb chops are from lambs under a year of age and AFTER they are born. This scene literally cut open an unborn lamb and cooked it 💀

Fun fact: Balut is a delicacy in some Asian countries. It’s underdeveloped bird egg. You’re supposed to crack the egg open and eat what’s inside. I know at least in the Philippines, it’s Quail egg. That’s why the dish was called Barometz Balut. 😃 My mom bought one to at least try a delicacy from her home country once, opened it, looked inside, and we all said nope nah lol
