Apparently he did in the novel and it was cut though. I’m excited for this season since it’s rumoured to be 38 eps but the toxic fans can get insane and killed my mood a bit. He was also around 100 years ago and beat Petelguese up to the point that he took the sloth witch factor and went crazy. He showed up with Pandora, but then when he started annoying Pandora she sent him home to his wives. Oh and he’s also one of the two people, along with Gluttony, who messed up Crusch and Rem.

In fact, the lady specifically pointed at him and several others and urged them to stay, so I’m guessing they had the willpower to break free, but she stopped them.

You can see that once she says everyone has gone quiet, Subaru's attitude completely changed to a more calm one. He was definitely panicked when he saw Sirius originally.

In regards to them being under Sirius's influence, it was likely from the very start if not soon after that they were all affected. No one in their right minds would have let that play out (notice the eyes weren't red when she brought the kid out which under normal circumstances would have immediately caused people to freak out normally).Subaru ESPECIALLY would never play around with someone calling themself and archbishop after what he's experienced at the hands of Petelgeuse. It's just a visual cue from the anime that something is wrong (showcasing the effect visually rather than through narration) as events get more and more hectic and reach the chilling climax, as there is no mention of red eyes or anything in the novels.

My understanding of the scene is that wrath is controlling them from the moment she clapped, maybe even the moment she spoke. You can see that the crowd starts off silent/confused, then kinda being jokey with wrath, then full on clapping and cheering. Witch's cult got a huge taboo so I can't see the crowd (or subaru especially) even reaching that joking around phase off her telling them

Well they establish like 90% of the characters involved in the arc and all of the main conflicts, some of these characters haven't been involved in the story since the midpoint of the first season too. I'm happy with it because of how LN accurate this is and the commitment to keep the initial feeling from the very first episode of the series for the premiere.

I found myself skipping through parts too. I get that they have to reintroduce some characters and plotlines, etc, but I think the main problem is that they spend way too much time trying to move the plot along. The scenes where they're just goofing off and the "humor" scenes in general feel like they last too long and are too frequent. That and many of the conversation/discussion scenes can be shortened while still serving a purpose. Basically if they managed to make this episode more concise, say 1 hr instead of 1.5hrs, it would've felt more engaging imo.

Just got their attention and controlled them immediately. Even though Subaru heard that she was a Sin Archbishop, and I'm assuming probably tried to put his guard up, her power is just on another level. It's interesting that she's the Archishop of Wrath, but she talked so much about love. But then again, even though Betelgeuse talked a lot about sloth, he did also speak quite a lot about love surrounding Subaru, whether it be from the Witch, Emilia, or his friends. Also he's still not going to be able to tell them about Return by Death, but Betty's definitely gonna sense the witch's miasma on him again. It's crazy to think that this is the first time he's died in over a year. So that trauma had to hit him like a truck. Man I'm stoked for this season.

Very very solid first episode. Really enjoying it so far. I appreciate we’re back on track from the main S1 plot and all the characters have a close dynamic now that they feel like real friends. I also loved the Reinhard reveal. Something hits different about it since these characters are in your mind for like 4-8 years and then you suddenly learn they’re related. My theory is that Sirius is actually Emilia’s mom similar to how Betelgeuse used to be a friend of Emilia’s mom and Emilia but was taken by the witch’s cult and turned crazy. She has silver hair too which made me think this could actually be a real theory. Also I didn’t notice this when watching S1 and 2 bc i hadn’t seen as much anime back then but I didn’t know Reinhard was voiced by Yuichi Nakamura this whole time. He’s literally gojo before gojo. This guy has been voicing overpowered characters for like 10 years. Tatsuya Shiba from Mahouka, Gojo, Buddha from Record of Ragnorok, Umemiya from Wind breaker, Reinhard, Yorishige from Elusice Samurai, Red Keeper from Ranger Reject. Sheesh

I mean this time he has to deal with the fact he was celebrating and cheering for a childs death. Also I personally like the fact that he struggles with dying and how it affects him. Ots good story telling and is a nice change of pace from the other 99.9% of isekai protagonists where they are op and shrug off death like its no big deal. Some deaths Subaru can handle pretty well but it depends on how/when/why he dies. The main point of rezero is how Subaru picks himself back up and keeps pushing forward despite these traumatizing events/deaths. Pretty sure Id feel sick to my stomach too if I watched and cheered as a child was thrown from a building to his death. Even if I was mentally manipulated. Also final note and then im done. Youve got to remember this is his first death in over a year.

Subaru is him in many ways when it comes to plans, tactics, strategies, being a leader, and pulling through when it counts. But as a fighter he just isnt capable. Subaru would kick all of our asses and basically anyone elses from our world if he was real. Even in that world hes not a pushover. Its just that hes literally going up against some of the strongest foes in the world and even then he still manages to pull through. Even though he needs help from others to beat these powerful foes he is the reason his allies are able to do it. People need to realize if it wasnt for Subaru all of the strong characters on our side would be dead or not in the right place at the right time. As Wilhelm said "when there is something you cannot do alone. You are able to see it through by gathering others who cannot do things alone." Subaru isnt a fighter he's basically a coach/strategist. Who makes certain his strongest allies are in the right place at the right time.

The only point I’ll concede is that he hasn’t died in a year… that’s valid and certainly could/would send someone into shock… And maybe I was a little harsh But this man has, frozen to death, been tortured to death, been eaten alive, cut open, pulverized, killed himself several times, been killed by people he cares about several times, been possessed serval times, he’s watched the villagers outside the manor be massacred several times You’re right I don’t want him to be some gigachad op main character but in my opinion his death wasn’t that special this time… he’s been possessed before, and when he actually died it was instant death. Watching the kid fall was awful but he’s seen Petra die and the kids from the village, hell he’s even jumped off a cliff or two himself. I’m probably overreacting though. I typed that comment out the moment I saw Subaru curl up… I just thought his reaction would be more like “OH SHIT THE CULT IS HERE. Well, the anime never said they were related until now, so you had to pick up on the fact that they shared a last name. When I first made the connection, I just assumed they were from a clan (like in Naruto) or a large extended family. I didn't realize how closely they were related until, while I was following another reactor, some light novel reader decided to post their exact relationship during Wilhelm's debut episode. I would have preferred to wait until the anime told me, so I'm kinda jealous of folks who were still unaware.

Subaru isn't perfect, he's definitely made mistakes one could consider boneheaded. But you can't judge a character like this without understanding where he's coming from. Subaru was a basic ass teen who already had issues prior to getting isekaied, being in a completely unknown situation & dying horrible deaths multiple times, a lot actually, gave him some nasty PTSD that's like stacked on itself & bonded to his preexisting insecurities He's not a martial artist, he wasn't given the broken Isekai powers, he's not even an adult who'd have a better chance at dealing with this better. A kid dying over & over damn near to insanity, blaming himself until he started crashing out If you're gonna pile on his mistakes, be reasonable. I’m 95% sure the people she/wrath pointed out at first were the ones that were feeling upset and she felt when the anger of those people dispersed. And they were taken control of way before there eyes turned red, they just showed it late so we could get the reveal of them being controlled. I understand sheera saying he’s never been the smartest person but Suburu isn’t the type of person to see a child like that and cheer for it, he’d be insane, I was gonna be disappointed if she hadn’t killed everyone there to be honest. Amazing first episode and I’m excited to see what Suburu chooses to do, it’s really awesome how Suburu is kinda like the undefeated and most powerful one indirectly becasue he has several tries to correct stuff like this from happening.

VR your Brain cant quite grasp the difference between what your seeing and what your body is doing and it causes nausea. Seasickness is the same, your on a boat and "Level" perception wise but your body also knows that your rocking back and forth, up and down, etc. Your body has hard time processing those dif feelings and it causes nausia. So It doesn't have anything with the character itself getting the hate, but the fact that they probably **forgot** many redeeming point Subaru made, along with many other things from the previous season. I don't blame them because last season was a long time ago and Re:Zero's plot is full of details which can easily get difficult to remember for reactors. But getting negative comment or criticism unless it's a personal attack is definitely not the worst thing.

I'm pretty sure that authority that the Archbishop of Wrath uses has a buildup. You can see that Subaru's initial reaction is WTF, but then when he starts to fall under the spell, he thinks it's just a joke and he just wants to get on with what he's doing. After the spell is complete, the crowd's hearts are one. Subaru dropped the bag shortly before he was killed because the spell was complete, so he forgot about what he was doing and solely focused on the show.
