Yeah I don't know why they did that in the anime but in the novels when Regulus came at her right before Reinhard and Subaru busted the doors down Emilia started building up her magic to deal with whatever Regulus was going to do. Really weird choice for them to just have her stand there and accept it instead.

Otto took the burnt up tome of wisdom because he doesn't trust Roswaal at all. Which is fair. Roswaal may have that mark on his body that prevents him from acting against their group now. But he could've had contingency plans set up in advance on the rare chance that he failed. He put all of their lives in danger. And in some of the failed loops actually succeeded in taking some of those lives. We have a bunch of planning and then see the wedding between Emilia and Regulus. Regulus is very interesting as a villain because he constantly contradicts himself. He says that Emilia and Capella are shallow for their ways of thinking but when he first met Emilia he said that he wanted to marry her because of her face. He says all of these things to make himself seem better or claims he's being generous to Emilia. But he becomes upset if he isn't correct in the end. Which is actually very similar to what Subaru used to do. He became infatuated with Emilia because a pretty girl saved him and then spent most of S1 making decisions that he claimed were for her but were really just to satisfy his own ego. Regulus is like a much more dark and twisted version of how Subaru used to be. So it's very fitting that he's Subaru's Antagonist for this season.

Regulus is one of the most broken characters in the story. Previous seasons hinted abit of his abilities, aside from his carefree attitude. Its gonna be interesting when they explain his authority, because even in the wiki it's very convolutedly explained.

I don't think Reinhard was surprised by Subaru's hand, but more by what Subaru said. Reinhard is apparently so broken that he can just get new powers out of nowhere when he needs them, and pretty much everyone sees him as the hero who can do anything. And Subaru just casually tells him "Don't worry, bro. If you can't do something, I've got you covered." And the best part is, Reinhard knows that if anyone could actually pull something like that off, it's Subaru, so he's just like, "Alright, bet."

Maybe later it will be explained more, because right now, aside from the capability of him having more than 1 authority (authority of returning by death and the authority of sloth), his body is riddled with curses: the curses from way back in s1 when he got bitten by multiple mabeast dogs (beatrice said she tried her best to remove all but couldnt) and now the dragon curse. That's why few episodes ago it showed like an inner battle between the dragon and the dogs. That was a representation of the curses fighting inside Subaru right now.

Its not necesarely weird how they did the last part; I can only assume they changed it to this because of how the episodes are going to be aired with a 2 month inbetween. They wanted to create a more epic moment which it was from my pov.

It prolly feels weak because the story right now is structured very differently from previous seasons. Whereas u had introduction of characters, backstories, subaru trying different routes with his authority, right now the whole cast has been put in a dangerous situation that went from 0 to 11 real quick. Given the situation they are in, they lack intel (aside from what the authorities from the archbishops can do except regulus), so the approach is different and Subaru has not reset past the Wrath moment at the start.

Cross fire happens. her standing there can also mean shes not putting any of the wives at risk because he only getting mad at her and as long they dont move, so Regulus would just kill Emilia and not the wives.

I will say, when subaru gave the thumbs up to reinhard, reinhard was reacting to what he said, not his hand. everyone's seen his hand since before that meeting, though that's not established. its literally just an unfortunate yet understandable interpretation of the scene and the fault lies upon no one, so I just thought I'd clear it up cuz yk also, emilia was saying what she was saying, not to regulus, but to the wives. Emilia made them believe in something more than what they had. that was emilia's purpose for saying what she did.

You're comparing an arc that hasn't finished to other arcs that have finished. The thing is that these 8episodes are all build up for the climax. It set up the various villains- what they want to achieve and why we want them to lose because of what they did in the city. The arc also sets up the good guys in who is available and unavailable because of the villains' actions. We get introduced to the new characters and reintroduced to characters we haven't seen much with what they can do, what they're like. The good guys are also then matched them up with their respective villain which aligns with what they want to do and the scores they have to settle. It really is all just the setup part of the arc.
