This Shikai/Bankai still confusing to me lol

Shikai: brings children’s games to reality. Bankai: Bring theatre play to reality

Shunsui Kyōraku's Bankai in Bleach is called Katen Kyōkotsu: Karamatsu Shinjū. It's very different from most Bankai because it's not a straightforward power boost—it's more like a deadly play where both Shunsui and his opponent are forced to act out a tragic story with four acts: First Act: Sharing Wounds – Any injuries Shunsui inflicts on his opponent are also inflicted on him. Second Act: Drowning – The opponent feels like they’re drowning in deep water, unable to escape. Third Act: Stabbing Shadows – Both Shunsui and his opponent are stabbed by invisible forces, piercing their bodies. Final Act: Decapitation – If the opponent survives all previous acts, they are left completely defenseless, and Shunsui delivers a fatal blow. The Bankai is extremely dangerous, not only to his enemies but also to himself, so he only uses it as a last resort. I got this from chatgpt btw lol

Prxj3ct
>>157095875

We've only seen shunsui use it once in the manga so we dont know if there are other plays he can do or not, but yeah its pretty much an auto kill like a domain expansion unless the opponent is strong enough to break out of it

BZD
>>157095875

My guess is that you need to not feel regret after the injuries are shared. So someone like Kenpachi probably would be fine.

BZD

Wait, would the baby blowing up count as Mayuri’s Bankai being destroyed? Doesn’t that permanently damage the zanpakuto? Or would he be fine since his Bankai was also the baby that gave birth to the other baby.

Ren Lichtfoot

Episode Spoiler, Don't read if you haven't watched! . .. It's basically Squid Games the Shikai and Shakespeare the Bankai. What's more, the games and tragedies he "draws" are all random and decided by his Zanpakuto. The games are unfamiliar to me, so I also had to watch it a few times, but the concept itself is really cool.

Ichigoat
>>157097219

That concept doesn't apply to Mayuri. He is able to modify his bankai through experiments. So even if it does break he can just fix it. His bankai broke vs Szayelaporro also. Only works for his bankai tho. He can't fix other people zanpakuto

BZD
>>157097219

That’s good. I was worried for a second. Although I did have a feeling that even if it did count as it being broken, he’d be able to fix it, considering he could modify it as well.

bleach
>>157097668

That's a good way to think of it but I'm pretty that's the shikai

Ichigoat

Fun fact Lille vollstandig is inspired by the biblical angels Seraphim. Which are the highest ranked angels like the archangels Gabriel and Micheal. It fits Lille character who considered himself to be the closes to god

꧁The Artist ꧂
>>157097219

Ichigo asked him the samething after his(Ichigo's) got destroyed during the 1st invasion. He basically said that he doesn't fix his he just modifies it, so he's taking the broken bankai and making it into something new

Uly A O

After the manga and anime, the power makes sense. Why can't he use it with allies in the field? He could accidentally clap them. The only thing for the bankai condition to work is the play has to be "written" in a way that affects both or all parties expect for the last act, kinda as if all of Alan Wake was a bankai out of control.

MonarchXIII

It's not fair, why does Shunsui get a big titty goth bankai

Conflictor

That “Yooooooooooooooo……….Yaw” which signifies the start of a Japanese theatrical play is immensely addictive and satisfying, send help as I can’t stop playing it. Anyways, Reikaku = Spirit Sense And the ‘Dharma Doll Fell Down/Bodhidharma Falls Down’ that Lilie Barro recognized as ‘chocolate ingles’ from Spain are both similar, if not identical to Red-Light, Green-Light as a children’s game, which is the gist of Shunsui’s Shikai abilities and like all Bankais, his is the Adult/Inverse version of that concept. The Theatrical Bankai: KatenKyōkotsu Karamatsu Shinjū (Bones of Heavenly Blooming Madness: Withering Pine Lovers' Suicide/ Flower Crazed Heaven Bone Spirit Withered Pine Love Suicide) To release, Shunsui holds his Shikai out in front of him with the blades pointing down, which prompts several black tendrils to extend out from him like shadows (resembling ink-drawn pine branches) while his Zanpakutō Spirit, Katen or ‘Ohana’ manifests behind him who was revealed along with most other Zanpakutō Spirits in the anime canon Zanpakutō Rebellion arc (Eps 230 - 265) as the best in anime. A vast area around Shunsui is subsequently overcast by an aura that alters the perception of those it reaches, making their surroundings appear ‘gloomy, desolate, and full of despair’ while inducing chills, and making the sky appear as if covered in eerie yellow squares, like the paneling of a theater stage, and much like Yamamoto’s Bankai with its 4 directional phases, Shunsui’s is divided into 4 acts of an adult tragic play. Act 1: ‘Hesitance and Apportionment of Wounds’ - A man hits a woman, he feels great shame as if the wounds he inflicted he can also feel them, and it becomes real damage, from mental to physical. In context, Any wounds that Shunsui or his opponent inflict on each other will emerge on their body as well, shareing the pain. Act 2: ‘The Pillow of Shame’ - The man starts feeling even worse for what he did and develops a sickness cause of this great shame. In context, black spots appear all over the body of Shunsui's opponent, causing them to bleed profusely. Act 3: ‘The Severing Abyss’ - As a way to atone the man drops into an endless ocean hoping to drown and the woman also drowns with him because she pities him. However, the man becomes a coward, starting to swim up to the surface abandoning his promise to drown along with the woman. In context, Shunsui and his opponent are engulfed in a massive, inescapable body of water, which both are meant to remain in until one of them runs out of Reiatsu and drowns. Final Act: ‘Thread-Cutting Scissors upon a Blood-Streaked Throat’ - As a result of all this, the woman wanting to get rid of the man's regret and cowardness, cuts his throat. In context, After sheathing his swords, Shunsui winds a white thread around his opponent's throat multiple times before pulling it out, leaving a deep cut in their throat that expands before blowing up their head. As for Lilie Barro’s transformation, it’s his Vollständig/Voll Stern Dich: ‘Ziliel’ (Judgment of God) which is based on the biblically accurate Seraphim angels since he’s the 1st Quincy to be granted a Schrift by Yhwach as the ‘closest to God’ and has power over the ethereal light itself.

Devin B
>>157097219

You can think of his bankai as different versions of itself, it's never going to be the same as what it was originally

Conflictor
>>157095875

Add adult to that theater play and you’re correct as it’s a tragic one and @YaBoyRoshi I got you, just read my comment when you get a chance as I always break these episodes down.

Ren Lichtfoot
>>157097668

You might be right. The bankai seems more like a random movie script of a tragedy. He literally never knows what he's going to get - and that's kinda scary.

Conflictor
>>157100224

To Roshi, my comments are Ep analysis & summary breakdowns, and are meant for situations exactly like this to clear up any misunderstandings as Bleach is a very subtle series. Apologies, if they’re often very lengthy but I try to make them concisely detailed as possible.

Kail Andrews

@YaBoyRoshi Shunsui's bankai depicts a suicide play. The story goes like this: A man hits the woman, then he feels her pain and experiences regret; later he's struck by an uncurable depresion; next the man and the woman threw themselfes into the river but the man cowards and tries to escape, at the end the woman rages and cuts his throat. In this scenario, Shunsui plays the woman and his opponent the man; for the play to continue the opponent must fullfill the conditions of the act; example, he must regret harming Shunsui for the next act to occur if not it ends there.

Tre Staples

Could Shunsui have lost had he ran out of Reiatsu first?

Dougie Fresh

Lilles ability is the ability to penetrate anything. He never misses basically. In his angel form he's basically the same but faster. Able to erase whatever it is his blasts hit.

Conflictor
>>157100224

I wouldn’t speak for them, but either way they’re not gonna get these type of breakdowns from anyone else. I can guarantee that much. 👌

AsuraTM
>>157101329

If Lillie didn’t try to run, which led to the final act. Then yea shunsui could’ve lost that way

Kevin Kovacs
>>157095875

Pls Roshi read the comments because they explaining your confusion about his shikai and bankai.

Tre Staples
>>157101329

Damn that's crazy, I would never use that Bankai ever again lmao 🤣🤣 Super OP, but seems like a risky double edged sword

ZO
>>157097668

Yes the shikai is children’s games and the bankai is adult plays

Expired Breast Milk
>>157099853

I mean the Blade is Me, so Katen is Shunsui himself as his manifest spirit. You could be a bad bitch if you got it in you <3

Xerxes54

Off topic, but do you guys think you could ever react to a movie called “Oldboy”? Insane Korean movie

AsuraTM
>>157095875

@YaBoyRoshi His zanpakuto, the woman that appears, is who determines as far as I’m aware. Since shunsui has only used his bankai once, as it’s a bankai that can easily backfire on him, we don’t know if there are different plays that can be used during his bankai. Since his shikai has multiple children’s games I’d say his bankai probably has multiple plays too.

Alex
>>157101329

It is, but that's part of his whole kit. His own abilities can be turned against him, every fight he'll ever have is the same, even with just shikai

DIOR

The pacing getting kinda ass, these were like some of the longest fights in the entire manga with 9+ chapters. Still fire but obviously rushing them. That aside I was hoping they'd at least try to expound on Shunsui confusing bankai or give Lille Barro a flashback to give his broken ass more depth as a character

Copycat

Since you asked here's TLDR Shunsui Shikai = Childrens Entertainment(example Red Light Green Light like at the beginning and the shadow game) Shunsui Bankai = Adult Entertainment(A Play with multiple acts each act is different) and much like Yammamoto's bankai his has multiple "stages/forms" that effect a massive area just from using it, which really shows just how big of a pillarstone these 2 are. Also it is based of a real play from what I understand(comments please correct me if I'm wrong) basic version 2 lovers man abuses woman(wound sharing), comes down with illness(gave him ebola) feels regret, they then throw themselves into water to drown together(they drown in water draining spiritual pressure), in a final act of cowardice the man tries to swim away even in his last moments, when the woman kills him cutting his neck, leaving him to die cold and alone.(head goes kaboom) A fitting end for an opponent who faces someone as cruel as the captain commander. Also Lille Barro's design is heavily inspired by that of a biblically accurate angel and specifically a seraphim and that is why when he initially transforms Shunsui "can't move" as when a human being sees an angel the same would happen. Really cool design choices that many will completely miss. Also Also the best way to describe Lille Barro's is the X- Axis makes it so he cant miss with his basic ability, then the power up pretty much puts him on another "axis" from everyone else making it so nothing can hit him. Super creative use of a power starting from X and I remember reading the arc it was always the one I was the most curious about and boy did Kubo cook.

Alex
>>157097219

I feel like every single canon fight mayuri was in his bankai has gotten popped. It was never his trump card, well maybe in the fight with uryu, the only time we've seen him caught off guard and it was against a Quincy

Alex
>>157095875

Not auto clap, it's just as dangerous to him as his opponent. Just like his shikai, it can be turned against him. Remember stark using the games against Kyoraku in their fight?

Sevorai
>>157103256

They're just pingponging from the two fights. His bankai really isn't confusing since his shikai is kids entertainment like games n shit and bankai is adult entertainment like plays with acts.

DIOR
>>157103256

If you were around when the ch came out, to this day his bankai is controversial because there's no fucking explained restrictions to its limitations. Never was about explaining the ability, but why it seemingly can one shot anyone in the Bleachverse with no proper explanation. It was even worse when what happens next happens. Lets not try to start revising history and acting like this arc wasn't horrifically received in the manga.

Tearonex

We got biblically accurate Quincies out here 😂

Davon Thomas
>>157103256

This fight and Mayuri's aren't done if you actually read the manga you'd know the fights were split into 2 parts. Pacing has been relatively good even with including anime original content.

Awakened

Apparently, this was a calm episode due to the amount of heavy dialogue according to one of the animators and said wait till next week. I won’t say it’s a priority to avoid hyping anyone up and which it could potentially be, but based on the manga of what is the follow up of the last battle, it should have crazy animation.

DIOR
>>157103256

I read it bout 20 times, the fight runs consecutively not concurrently. Tf are you yapping about? It’s unnecessary to show Pernida breaking out then switching to another fight. Do you have brain cells to use?

Awakened
>>157103256

It’s the direction to show that the captains won only to then show that it’s not that simple against these beings.

Alex Monascal

Shunsui’s Shikai turns children’s games into reality. His Bankai turns Adult entertainment into reality (in this case, a theater act) This is one of those powers that you could understand the theory in and out but still be powerless in an actual fight since Shunsui could always change the game/play at any moment. Shit’s BUSTED

animeprince204 .

Lile, Sternritter X, is supposed to be a biblical angel. The higher the angel, the closer to god, the more grotesque they're supposed to look. It even says when a human looks upon an angel true form they freeze in fear. It's why Shunsui couldn't move at first.

Denickart
>>157103256

There's nothing rushed about it. If anything they stretched it out because it takes less than a minute to read an average Bleach chapter in this arc.

CornCobBob
>>157101480

It's more like everything that is in line of sight of the of his barrel is simultaneously is essentially penetrated and deleted at the same time. There is no projectile. The explosions is caused by matter just being deleted. The X axis goes on forever.

Danny
>>157103256

making the fights split like this is what OG Bleach did in order to present these fights as if they were happening around the same time. it keeps things fresh as we jump between fights. it would feel like an actual war where battles can occur at the same time and not 1 by 1

Goofyaah

There’s a filler arc where we get to see all the zanpakuto of the soul reapers (I won’t say why as to not spoil the ply for it) so it would be the 2nd time we see his. IMO it’s the best filler arc from Bleach and worth a watch bc it gives a look into their relations with each other. Like how Renji’s zanpakuto didn’t even respect him enough to tell him the full name, you’ll get to understand more why it didn’t.

Jamaal Ellison

Every time I hear that sound @16:02 I think of Tenchi Muyo. This one's not my favorite episode. 😪 I changed my mind this episode is actually very cool.

Jamaal Ellison
>>157113230

I really fucked with all the bleach filler arcs. Like the one about the replacement Captain and the one you're referring to is up there. This one had my second favorite bleach ending theme called mad surfer.

Jamaal Ellison
>>157103256

This one feels like I'm watching an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh. Lots of moves and counters then explanations for how and why each move was done and how they work.

Demer'sLemur

I hope y’all r getting sleep and eveything. anyone else notice sheera and lupa literally struggling to keep they’re eyes open the majority of the episode

Jair Acosta

If you want the simple answer his shikai makes children’s game real while his bankai makes a traditional theatre story become real, more specifically a story about a man and woman throwing themselves into the ocean and killing each other

ShaquanVirse

Shunsui Bankai is a stage play. It's a extremely broken as you can tell - It's also my favorite Bankai - Lol sorry Lile but you're not in my top 5 favorite Quinces (Not even your power is in my top 5)

Jamaal Ellison

This niggas Bankai gives you long Covid.

jiwon330
>>157114368

It's probably because this is a very calm episode Watch rttv. They're really sleeping when they see them lol

Coatl45
>>157107496

Honestly, my first thought was that he turned into a Hollow Knight boss. As for an angel, he didn’t have nearly enough eyes or nonsensical body parts to make me instantly think of angels. Why do eldritch horrors always have so many eyes?

Coatl45
>>157106740

When Shunsui was talking about how children take you by the hand and drag you into their games, I got the impression that his zanpakto is actually the ones who decide what games and plays are done during the fight.

Rin Okumura

They need to do something with these bankai names... Every Bankai nowadays sound like a whole verse from the Sutra.

AutumnOnFire

Shunsui's bankai could start off like "You just went to Taco Bell, you chose no drink, and there isn't washroom within 200 miles."

Mr. Toxicc

This man fighting someone with a gun again lol

J

I always love the abilities that are just "yeah its bullshit, don't try to understand it, it just kills you"

Isaac

Friendly reminder to anime only. Remember homegirl's IKEA Bankai done to Lille and Pernida? Lille got holes put all over him from his gun getting deflected. This fight, he got holes put on him from Shunsui's Bankai sharing the pain. Pernida got sucked into a vacuum of black sand. His fight he was consumed by Mayuri's Bankai and Kurotsuchi ( his name ) means Black Sand/Soil. Her Bankai predicted their future deaths and manifested them into metaphoric realities. Just a cool thing to point out now.

Lsg_Lani

Ik it’s been said but the way Shunsui ONLY fights niggas with guns is hilarious but also shows how tuff he really is. Also y’all may not remember it but back in Fake Karakura town against Starkk, he was gonna use bankai but Jushiro told him not too cuz he’d affect hella people.

Lsg_Lani

The Quincy chick with the blonde hair needs to reunited with her father Shinji 🤣

Lsg_Lani

Shunsui commending Nanao for keeping up with him just shows how much she’s trained since Soul Society Arc. She got shook by Yama’s sp when he “fought” Shunsui and Ukitake. Bro picked her up and flash stepped across the whole Seritei in two steps. Sorry for spam tho but I love bleach sm and people here are the only people I can really chat about it with 😭

Lsg_Lani

When the hell did they get info on Shunsui shikai cuz even we haven’t seen him do that shit 🤣🤣🤣

Kevs rey

The only thing I’m confused about is does the bankai affects him too or whether it only affects the opponent

Zephyrs
>>157123958

This one actually is an old folklore tale about two lovers who committed suicide instead of simply a cool combat ability.

Heystax
>>157103256

no disrespect but you sound like you would be confused on itadori power at the end of jjk because you can’t pick up on the context lol

Lyandro
>>157143368

Yes, it affects him as well, because the bankai is reciting a play/story so all parties involved are essentially at the mercy of the bankai. That's why he can't release any and anytime because it doesn't discrimnate between friend or enemy.

Earphone Jack

At last…Shunsui’s Bankai is revealed!

General Grevious

I swear if your weapon is a gun and you go up against this man it’s over😂

Goofyaah
>>157113230

Yh I like these 2 arcs as well and the one u mentioned has a fire opening (OP 8)

Kpop Tart

Day 24 of recommending ‘Run with the Wind’ trio reaction - underrated sports anime (running) - 1 season with 23 episodes - same animators that did Haikyu - BLACK GUY!

Kendall Gresham

I've been waiting to see Shunsui's Shikai and Bankai in action

Davon Thomas

The 1st half of the zanpakto arc still remains one of the better fillers of bleach. Especially really getting to meet have spirits

Nah bro you're good, not everyone either pays full attention or can connect the dots just from viewing. At least I appreciate you big dawg

A. P.

Ohana a baddie 👀 Shunsui was definitely the kid that would just make up rules to the game when he started losing lol

Ougi
>>157342368

Ngl that's kinda what most fights in bleach feel like

LiquidXGravity

Nah that's what almost every anime feels like. You activated my trap card and they go "No you activated my trap card"

VagabonD

What's really funny is Yugioh really is the perfect the example especially if you've ever played duel monsters irl. Rule alone could carry a drinking game
