I mean Akira Toriyama didn't even do GT so I'm not mad at them bringing SSJ4, Gogeta, and Broly back. You also have to think about who's running the company now I feel like they want One Piece to be bigger than DBS which is never gonna happen. If you notice DBS hasn't come back and none of the games touch the manga at all which is odd.

A big reason they haven't touched the manga is because they don't own the rights to it, shueisha owns the manga while toei has the rights to the anime. They can't touch any story points of the manga unless they come to an agreement on it so it's highly unlikely we'll ever get manga content

As someone who LOVES that SSJ4 is canon now and who loved GT as a child, I get where Roshi is coming from with the re-cycling old stuff complaint. Personally I am hyped as hell to see this in a new Dragon Ball anime and I love Broly, but I can see how it would be frustrating to people reading Super and waiting for the story to continue. I think what they are trying to do is establish a consistent canon and lore for the series, which is why they keep revisiting these older characters. they want to make a solid timeline where these characters exist and are part of the DB universe instead of just non-canon spin-off characters. I would not be surprised at all if we get a new Super anime sometime soon after Daima. The entire point of Daima seems to have just been to fill in the gap between Super and Z and to fill in some of the lore and plot holes.

The reason for red hair instead of black is simply a design choice to differentiate it from the GT version. From things I’ve read, the demon world we see here may come back in a future Super arc and with the whole Super anime situation, I think it’s because they want to build up so much story from the manga to adapt but that takes forever since it’s only a monthly release. Probably a bunch of other factors at play too. They honestly need to bring Super back as a seasonal anime instead of a ongoing series

In the later years of Akira’s life there’s been a distinct difference between him and toyotaro. Akira kept going and retconning things that happened prior to Broly and toyotaro was moving things forward. Now that he is the main writer I think we’re going to start seeing new and fresh ideas

I do agree with roshi on adapting the super manga but Daima was in development way before so I feel like this is more Toei's fault if anything. I would keep Daima as it is since it's a tribute to GT but I think after this we should get super stuff. (But I hear because of Toriyama's death they are having issues with the dragon ball IP and all that...)

Im with you. I like ssj4 and new form look cool but I want them to move forward @yaboyroshi. If you remember dbs broly. They hinting broly got a puesdo SSJ4. They could have gave broly true ssj4. Goku = angel path Vegeta = god path Broly = sayain path. So broly getting ssj4 would get it make sense. Im will be fine goku getting this if this was leading to monkey king transformation. Usually ssj4 as a baseline but currently not good

Also now that I remember something, w/ Beerus and Whis, they watched the flashbacks to Goku vs Frieza battling on Planet Namek before they met, and then the Kai and the Clown also watched the action w/ whatever happens in the Buu Saga... Like I'd love it if they stopped doing the flashbacks to piggyback on and just let the show breathe and do its own thing...

To be fair this was just the last thing Toriyama worked on before he passed away so I just take it as a final gift even if we never see it again, it was dope even if it was unearned that just seems to be the way dragon ball been as of late. I get Roshi 100%. It's time to move on and progress the story and characters onward instead of just feeding into a pointless cycle of nostalgia. Because like he mentioned, Super Saiyan 4 does nothing except give in to fan service, It's factually weaker and useless compared to all the god transformations and UI so why even bring it up if not to just give some of the fanbase a fun little "oh look we did the thing so please like us more".

I think maybe Toriyama had some plans to bring all these old ideas to be canon for toyotaro to build a upon. It does give him some more ideas to make arcs out of or something but the recons would be hard to explain. Who knows, we might see a future arc taking place in the demon world, maybe god ki doesnt work there or the main antagonist steals god ki, idk, and they are forced to find neva and unlock ssj4 again because they cant using ssj god and above. I was prepared to disagree wholeheartedly against Roshi, on SSJ4's design alone. But every thing he said is facts. Still though happy to see SSJ4 return. Cuz personally I could do w/o SSG or SSB . Cuz I always felt like removal of their tails was lame, even as a kid. To me the only thing that made them saiyans was zenkai boosts and their love for battle after that. In that way they aren't much different than any other race. And instead of their transformations progressively changing their demeanor and/or appearance like 2-4, Ikari, UI and UE does; They opted to palette swap their base forms and SS forms. Which was boring. But with this form now I like the changes, even if it doesn't come back. The more ape like hands, the animal like fighting style, the potential nod to why SSG is red, the fact that it DID NOT age him up, and if they decide to introduce Gogeta and keep his color scheme; His hair being that orangish-red will make more sense. The fact that a Black haired and Dark-Brown haired SSJ4 fusion's hair was that color always bothered me.

Honestly Roshi? I 80% disagree with your take at the end. There is no reason to assume that the point of db Daima was to reintroduce SS4 just because.. Super Saiyan 4 exists within db Daima? Also the whole new idea thing is insane, not only has Daima so far been almost 100% new ideas and things we've never seen before, but even though SS4 was obviously created decades ago, it is handled completely differently within Daima, and it's clear that they're going to give it some sort of Demon-Exclusive ties rather than it just being the form that comes after SS3. Overall? I think it's a squidward ass take to just call this another case of them repeating the past. Though I 100% 100% 100% agree with you saying that they should just animate the Super manga instead, nothing in Daima so far has made it worth prioritizing it over the actual canon mainline story that's been on paper for 8 years now

When you've consumed so much Dragonball over the years, (Lupa I peeped the DBAF reference at the start) sometimes all you want is for the story to continue. If Daima is to be a love letter to Dragonball's history, I can appreciate it for that. Context matters. DBS ended up moving faster than expected so I get why they needed to slow things down. But it feels like Daima is a stop-gap for what is to come because I don't think they wanted the fans to wait even longer after the time from when Super ended.

Facts, I take it more as a send off to the ideas and passion of Toriyama. This series is a return to form from OG Dragon ball, with these last couple episodes basically being a showcase of Toriyama’s love for the “rule of cool”. I think they’ll give Toyataro’s work some shine in the future (they have been putting it off) but I think this series was a good way to fill the gap and scratch that nostalgic itch for fans

i've been saying this, Daima is ok but all i see is people saying it's peak and what GT should have been. Nobody has yet to give me a reason as to why it's so great, all they do is say why GT is bad. All daima has done is reuse old ideas but in my opinion worse. Toriyama wrote this story during the Tournament of Power and Broly movie releases. So, Toriyama would have already known this was going to be revealed, and it's probably why he created Ultra Ego which is literally SS3 Vegeta, but with purple hair lol

The reason I like SSJ4 over SSG is because it goes back to the Saiyan roots of them being Apes. I really don't know why they didn't add this as the SSG form instead of it just being red hair then go SSB. If you go back to Battle of the Gods when Beerus was talking about the Legendary Super Saiyan the silhouette of the scene looks like a SSJ4 Vegeta.

What’s with the criticism Roshi? Daima is it’s own story and has nothing to do with future works and bringing back SSJ4 (arguably the best transformation) is a great way to come full circle and going back to the Saiyan roots. This episode was awesome!

Fan service is not necessarily a bad thing, DBS also has a lot of fanservice. The point of Daima is to establish more world building, fill in plot holes, and be a link between Z and Super. Idk why people feel the need to make it a Super vs Daima fight, both can be good and be their own thing. You may not like it but SS4 Goku is one of the most iconic and important figures in DB history and it was a great thing for the franchise to address it and make him canon finally. It only helps the series. SS4 existing doesn't take away from Super and SSG existing doesn't take away from SS4

To Roshi's point I don't think they made this with the express idea of making SS4 "canon" I think it was done because they went ok we are going to have dude unlock goku's potential so he can fight on even ground and then the next question was ok what does that look like for goku does he get a new transformation or is it just he's stronger. And they saw it as a cool opportunity to use SS4 I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of this someone asks about it and goku says something like its a form I can only access in the demon world

Here's the issue, Daima and Super fundamentally appeal to 2 different types of fan. Super is meant to appeal to the power level, EPIC FIGHTS portion of the DBZ fanbase who value the animation and fights more than the story or characters (Post Cell Saga). Daima is meant to appeal to the older generation of Dragon Ball fans who like the original DB, the original DBZ arcs, and GT, these types of fans prefer the story and world building / characters over the fights. Super fans hate Daima because it's too slow paced and too much "recycling old ideas" and Daima fans hate Super because it's "too shallow and follows the same generic formula of Goku/Vegeta get new powerup and beat bad guy"

That ONLY happend for the super anime because they anime was ahead of the manga. The manga is currently has about 2 seasons worth of content so we know exactly what to expect in the anime if you've read the manga. I don't see why they would make an entire new story for the anime now that the manga is ahead. Also, nothing that happened in top aside from getting UI is needed to start the Moro ark.

Let's be honest, it's not like Super is all that better. It's just as lazy, but we keep coming back because the transformations and fights are cool. IMO I love that they brought SSj4 into the mix, because now it's canon and if Toyotarou ever wanted to bring it back for future Super arcs he can now. I feel like Neva basically unlocked the potential of SSj4 in Goku for a time. Later down the line it can be brought back into the story if they want or maybe by the end of Daima they get their memories erased and that's why we don't see them change in Super, bc they forgot about the form. Who knows...either way It was still cool to see.

Toriyama's designs were unique with intentionality behind the scheme he used to develop them. He never incorporated similar features for no reason unless they were related. SSJ4 is identical to SSG in the shade of red and eye colour. Moreover the silhouette we see in Beeru's dream looks exactly like an adult version of Vegeta in what would a supposed SSJ4. I believe this suggests that SSJ4 is supposed to be a sort of 'true form' of SSG that they'll learn to access in the future. The fact that Broly was developed further beyond the movies, including the details about the form he used, makes Roshi's argument redundant as what is the point of a training arc with his character if he won't go on to be used more in the future? It's beyond fan service to set up a character who will continue to be relevant to the plot. Yall were the same people saying that SSJ4 would never be canon, that Vegeta would never get SSJ3 and look where we are. You need to learn to think beyond recency.

It has nothing to do with age. There are two different clans of Namekian: Dragon clan and the Warrior clan. Piccolo is of the warrior clan, he can't unlock people's potential. Dende is of the Dragon clan, he can unlock people's potential and create dragon balls. I think they explained it back in the Namek saga so I don't blame you for not remembering but yeah, Neva is a dragon clan Namekian

It expands the lore. We now know what the demon realm was like, we know where supreme Kai originated from and Namekians. We know why Supreme Kai was so afraid of Dabura. We know how Buu was created. It does a lot for the lore. GT did none of that

I understand what Roshi saying, which is why I believe Toriyama passed the torch to Toyatarou. I see everything he did as like a final hoorah in tribute to himself and japanese audiences who haven't seen these concepts in 20+ years. I do believe that we will get the super manga adapted, but they are just creating a plethora of buffer space so they don't run into the anime being ahead of the manga, and ending up with 3 different versions of the same story.

The producer is the one to blame. In a recent interview, he says he looks at the internet to see what the fans want. He saw how popular Broly was and asked Toriyama to bring him back, he saw how unpopular GT was but how popular SSJ4 was so he asked Toriyama to write a story using some GT story beats while making SSJ4 canon. The Goku Black arc exists because of him. He knows how popular Future Trunks was so he wanted Trunks to return to please the fans. While doing this makes sense at the moment (nostalgia is a hell of a drug, especially to a very general audience), but it will make the series soulless at some point. I'm hoping Toyotaro is given the respect that he deserves when more animated DB content comes back. He's the successor for a reason.

I agree with Roshi it’s cool and all seeing SSJ4 even though they don’t call it that but I got hype of it during GT and that was fine, now what they could of did was instead of SSB they could of made SSJ4 the new form for super and then built off it with things like UI etc. so hopefully all the call backs are done and they start adapting new freshness cause right now as a it stands with the manga and direction of the show. We are never gonna see any of this again for the foreseeable future because all the focus is on Ultra Ego and UI
