Jason Marbach

I’ll save my comments for the swapped version that’s coming then 😆

Jason Marbach

Fun fact: in Maarva’s speech, it originally ended with “FUCK THE EMPIRE!” Unfortunately, Disney made them change it to “fight.” It still slaps though

Jason Marbach

Couldn’t resist, had to drop one. I’ll post it in the next version too

NiToTheNah

It works way better as a call to action which was the point of the speech. Fuck the empire is a bit more meh in that regard.

Jason Marbach

I think both work great to be honest, but I definitely get it

Jason Marbach

I say “unfortunately” mostly because I don’t like studios meddling with artists doing their thing. Disney mostly avoided that with this show, to their credit.

Seth Aasland

Nemik’s manifesto and Maarva’s speech never fail to give me goosebumps

CuteAdorableDog

To clarify they started the funeral several hours early before lunch and with way more people than permitted that's why the empire was scrambling

Jason Marbach

It’s reeeeeal subtle, but that scene in the car with Mon and her husband where she accuses him of gambling, she’s pinning the missing money (the $400k credits she told Vel about last ep) on him. If you go back a few eps, she knows the driver is an Op from the ISB, she knew he’d listen in and report. Cold blooded from Mon but it had to be done

Jason Marbach

Should’ve known I wouldn’t be able to resist dropping another comment. Whatever. I’m the hype man, I’m here for it

Jason Marbach

Ahh I see later that y’all got it, my bad

Astronette

"it's a blaster or a lightsaber" mf that is a pipe bomb

Josh Hargrave

Yeah they wanted this show to feel different because there's no space magic and space wizards and a bunch of fantastical shit and the heroes are all on this adventure. This is more dirty and gritty and showing what the normal people in the galaxy are going through in this era of the Empire's reign.

Carlos

Next week! Deep. Substrate. Foliated. Kalkite!

Weltall Gaia

While the show is called Andor, he is not really the main character. The rebellion is the main character. Luthen is the main, kino is, maarva is, nemik is. This is very much a story about a million little sparks turning into a fire that brings the empire down. Andor is just the guy that is there to either witness it, or give the last little push that some people need in order to spend their lives for the rebellion.

Noah Jackson

You guys will sss the purpose of the Syril scenes soon no spoilers

KalkiTheEternity

I enjoyed the fuck out of this but I also don’t like Star Wars and never have so I guess my opinion on what constitutes good Star Wars is moot but I do agree the pacing could have been tightened up considerably. I think their commitment to 3 episode arcs made them artificially stretch up certain sections of the show to meet their 45 minute quota. Solid 7.5/10. Maybe an 8.

MrGuy3000

luthen: fight the empire right on! but y'all got it im out b

Godrick

Roshi is spot on, it's a slow burn. And Sheera's right the pay-offs are worth, it's a solid watch- but episodes 3-5 drag pretty hard. Having 3 consecutive episodes in the middle of a 12 episode season slump the pacing, is rough. But to the credit of the show... it's low key one of its only flaws. You could say 'unceremonious deaths', but I argue that's intentional. In a war that stretches over a entire galaxy, a lot of people are gonna die and very few of those deaths are going to actually matter. Overall it's like 7 or 8/10

Sam

This show is a political drama with a Star Wars name. All the “hype moments” you love are hype because of the build up we see. I’d also disagree with saying there’s fluff in the show. Every scene with Syrill at home is to show his relationship with his mother and how useless he feels after the incident in episode 3 I think you’ll enjoy S2 even more because your expectations will be in check with the tone and pacing of this show.

sol jam

next season is much much more fast after the first three episodes and more actions its actually insane how leagues it got above this season which was already insane

Drake Rage

13:25 Damn, that was great stuff written by Nemik, but when it said "Try," I immediately remembered Yoda's "Do or do not, there is no try." Lmao. 39:07 Fucking Lupa, LMAO.

Angel Mirrors

To be fair this is what Star Wars needed more of. It became so convoluted with all the lightsabers and force pushing the story and not the people and the behind the scenes of the rebellion for how it started. The slow burn allows you to connect with characters and places and everything has meaning even just conversations.

ShaquanVirse

Loved this season but ...... Did the show forget Andor was searching for his sister? I hope that is brought up in Season 2

Godrick

well I gotta ask why you "don't like star wars and never have". You're here, so I have to assume you like anime and it's pretty dang rare for someone to be big anime fan and not find anything to enjoy in Star Wars. At this point there's like 5 different Star Wars animes that all have something very different to offer

Zero

Mon always looking so fine man 😮‍💨 need dat

Aaron

i wonder would they ever react /watch the clone wars. it is PEAK STAR WARS.

Moon Man

Maarva did tell him to stop looking for her before he left Ferrix and that she was more than likely dead. Probably meant a whole lot more to him coming from his adoptive mother so he just accepted it and took on another endeavour that he was handpicked by Luthen for. === --== Light Spoilers ==-- === After the end of season 1 Tony Gilroy (Showrunner) clarified for the audience it was mostly just to set up a backstory for Cassian and his motivations, and to give Cassian a reason for being in the story. It wasn't meant to be a major plotline or anything major other than character development for Cassian and Maarva.

JD

I think lupas watched it

KalkiTheEternity

I quite literally cannot remember a time in which I wasn’t watching anime (20+ years) but to say because I enjoy one I have to enjoy the other is a bit of a generalization. I just have never found it compelling, and when even hardcore fans appear to believe that at least six of the nine mainline films are bad, I see little reason to revisit them.

Moon Man

Lupa genuinely takes me out with his reactions sometimes, "Is that a lightsaber?" "Bro IS THAT A LIGHTSABER?" "It could be a lightsaber or a blaster." "They give too much focus to this, must be a lightsaber." "Oh that's a bomb bomb" "Oh who's that. Oh his dad?" "Did they kill his dad?" "Oh so it's rebellion." .

Mitch Coob

Anyone know if they have plans to react to Rogue One after Andor?

Adrian Locke

Mon ain’t there for plot, she there to show you what those racks got spent on lmaooo

Sam

What are you talking about? Episode 3 was the climax of the first arc. And Episode 4-5 are setting up the heist

Fizzy 🐉

Can’t wait for season 2 this show is so good but I defo feel Roshi on the fact that they do sometimes be having some unnecessary scenes that do drag out the show

Blake

They have watched the movie before so probably not.

Jacob Livingston

I really hope they do season 2 each 3 ep arc at a time.

Jacob

Disagree on the discussion that Mon Mothma's scenes could've been reduced. Her journey in the show is a reflection of sacrificing everything for the right thing. Mothma sacrifices her husband's love, her daughter's future, and her own morals for the rebellion. I think it's a wonderful part of the show to show that Mon Mothma could've turned a blind eye to the Empire's oppression like her husband and lived very well, but instead she chooses to sacrifice everything. I think it's very central to the themes of the show, but I do see how they're slow and only build to a small conclusion.

ERRORCODE616

I hadn't watched this in a while. "Tell him I love him more than anything he could ever do wrong" still hits like a truck. Between Kino and Luthen's monologues last episode, and Nemik and Maarva's this episode...some of my favorite writing in all of Star Wars. And the music score behind them *chef's kiss*.

YaBoyFree

they didnt even show how he got to the planet did they? unless the 2 aliens where ubering him everywhere

WTT_321

So now, as Anakin Skywalker once said: "this is where the fun begins!" I love how in after one of the officers tip over Bee to make them stop, Brasso uses Marrva's brick symbolically to get the first hit in, as in letting her get the first punch onto the Empire. Pretty kickass touch of detail and why I love this ending more than what we got from a bit of Season 2, like not bad, but I prefer this season in terms of what we got in action and details... Also, in Nemik's Manifesto, the last word he said: "Try", the very word that Yoda didn't want Luke to do. "Do or Do Not. There is no Try." Kind of interesting that to me, this implies that Jedi have to do or die, but here, regular people without force powers have to freaking TRY to survive, especially under the hefty oppression of the Empire. Roshi was technically right: the parade of people during the funeral were practically screwing with the Empire, because what this show has been showing us all this time was that the Empire only looks at the tree, but not the forest... The Empire didn't realize that the rebellion was about to ignite under their noses....! They were blindsided, outsmarted by regular folk because they thought they got the upper hand, when the citizens of Ferrix know what's up! Luthen's expression during Marrva's speech was practically hilarious to me because this was what he was looking for, the fire of rebellion of people going against the Empire here in the place he didn't expect to see it take place. Thought it was just gonna be a funeral? NOPE just got explosions, rebellions, and blasters included lol Let's just say for Mon Mothma's scenes, some do feel like a slow burn, but some parts will play in her becoming a part of a rebellion (and in Season 2 let's just say the paths converge even closer than before, like in other words the characters that didn't interact in Season 1, will do so in Season 2).

Besaw

I hope they do. It's a different watch after seeing Andor.

sol jam

oh he will be MAD lol

Jigga Man

Mon Mothma, the single most important human being that's not a Jedi

AmityBloaf

Roshi & Sheera Are how the majority of ppl, myself included reacted to Season 1.... That is, Until you do the rewatches of S1 and I'll stand on ground and say this is one of the most hyper efficient Seasons of TV ever created... Now obviously they not trynna do all that as a reaction channel.. but Andor as a show is one I've seen majority of niggas online appreciate as time passes and it sticks with you... PS- yall not helping the Shonen brain allegations with this take and LOM same week LOLOLOL PSS - What slow burns have yall seen.. only one I can think of is Better Call Saul

P J

the musicians were just warming up

Jason Marbach

Dedra came THIS close to having her last words be “get off me you fcking ballbags!”

Blue

mon mothma is so important to star wars lore, i am surprised lupa doesnt know who she is.

aFRo

Stormtrooper climbed 8 flights of stairs in full armor just to get kicked off the roof. Nigga died tired AF 🤣

Weltall Gaia

Ya'll acting like nothing happened in those syril edy scenes when it's a cavalcade of emotional abuse and insight into why syril loves himself some oppressive fascism

Jason Marbach

When you realize Cassian helped build the weapon that eventually…well, the beach on scarif in rogue one. Iykyk

Jason Marbach

I do hope y’all see why the Mon scenes and the Syril scenes are so important once you get through season 2. Part of why this show is so hype is because there is not one SINGLE second of story that isn’t absolutely necessary. It all matters and it all has to do with building the story and explaining what happens in rogue one and the cost associated with it. It shows why and how it all matters

Youssef Loubnan

mon did that on purpose. she knew the driver was a spy, and she talked about the gambling with her husband on purpose to throw them off her scent and get them to focus on her husband instead

Danielle

They do realize this later on lol

Terry King Jr

*Breathing heavily* "I finally made it to the t-ahhhhhhhhhh":

WTT_321

I actually thought that part was gonna be a plot twist (sort of like a Luke & Lea brother-sister reveal, but without the kissing bit, awkward times back then) in Season 2, in that one of that characters was gonna be related to Cassian, but that ended up being subverted after I watched "that" part....

WTT_321

Plus this is one of the few Disney Star Wars stories that I'll watch on repeat because of how not-too-goofy and no messy behind the scenes nonsense to mess up the quality of the production. That's why I hated the sequel trilogy because not only of how the production of it happened, but the story suffered because of it....

aFRo

I’d be in hell pissed

WTT_321

You could say he's either involved w/ the people directly AND intimately like the people of Ferrix OR w/ the people during the heist plus the prison break. 😉

Mister Bushido

It was great watching your reactions to this, this has been a long anticipated series for me. Looking forward to S2!

HIM

TS 24:00 The people of Ferrix literally started EARLY. Basically, they said 10, but the empire said 12 (not the actual times), the people agreed and started it at 10 ANY WAYS! lol 😆 love that detail. Oh, they also brought WAY more people than they agreed to, as well. Best thing about this episode is that it didn't take Cassian or Luthen to start the fire. It was the people of Ferrix who made it all happen and it was gonna go down regardless of who was involved. Why? Because, M-M-Marva. Which is just an even GREATER detail! Kinda short in it's delivery, but dope nonetheless 👌

Weltall Gaia

I love that he isn't like the active force in the story but is so often the straw that breaks the camels back. He shows up to the wrong brothel and leads a low level power tripper to crash the fuck out. Him personally being chased causes Brasso to act against the police and Maarva to finally go full rebel in her remaining days. Gets stuffed into a fill in slot in the heist and is the one that gets Nemik's manifesto out to the galaxy. Looking the wrong way in front of the cops gets him placed into a prison that would have lost its chance for freedom if they didnt have that last little push at the right time. Just his very existence turns ferrix into the powder keg it needs to be for the empire to grasp juuuuust too hard and make Maarva's speech ignite the rebellion there.

HIM

Damn... watching it back now, this one episode had MAJOR parallels to the climax of s2... No spoilers, of course, but if you can keep this in mind, you'll appreciate you did.

ThatAcursedLynx

Building the thing (super laser dish bits) that'll kill him in the end of Rogue One.

GuntherBv

Feigning for that Dexter reaction

Vike

Same, i NEED that shit

jerry

Maarva's funeral march song was composed by Nicholas Britell who (among other things) also composed the theme for Succession.

WTT_321

He only looked up, but not thinking about looking down lol

Nrock23

I think the pacing is great in this show. Every Mon Mothma scene is pretty important iykyk and rewatching season 1 it flies by

Kwaku Afari

I felt the same way when I first watched it but after season 2 and rewatching it wuth ya'll made me have a new appreciation for it.

DrPlague9

Can we talk about home boy head butting a stormtrooper and knocking him out while he has no helmet and the trooper does some weak ass soldiers 😭💀💀

Lucius Reinhard

I get what Roshi means with the pacing but I feel like the director did a good job with it. One of the few where I think I can say nothing is wasteful when you watch. Even the slow and tedious moments put things in context. It’s all there to remind you that a lot of regular people fought and bled and died so that Luke could blow up the Death Star. Even someone like Andor who would be a side character to a side character in the main trilogy films can shine and have a huge impact. (Also Nemik’s manifesto is the fuckin bomb he’s the goat)

Delinda Arts

I aint spoiling nothing but they definitely take yalls advice to heart with S2 lmao

Delinda Arts

its still great dont get me wrong, just put your seatbelt on pacing wise

AnnaSama

Nemik's words get to me every time. Tranny is as desperate as it is unnatural. Requires constant effort. Small acts of rebellion everywhere. "Try"

kidBuku

@39:06 Bro lupa why you had to say it like that. I’m dying 😂😂😂😂😂

Vike

Where that dexter at

YaBoyRoshi

Vinland Saga S2, Severance, Better Call Saul, Frieren, Peaky Blinders, Breaking Bad, The Glory, Shogun, currently The Summer Hikaru Died I could go on and on with slow burn shows we watch or have watched. Also LOM was TOO FAST lol thats a whole separate issue. We love a good slow burn over here! Folks are saying we will have more appreciation in S2 for what happened here so looking forward to it!

Adam Belling

Yeah it’s definitely a slow burn, there are times I feel like I JUST WANT THE THING TO HAPPEN PLEASE SOMETHING HAPPEN. But as a meditation on facism I think it really works to capture the everyday moments of the pov characters. I feel like it wouldnt hurt so much when the leiutenant was killed in one shot if we hadnt had so much screentime with him, he was a cool character and his death reinforces that it straight up doesn’t matter

Krype

Haven't seen S2 because I heard you all were going to watch, so I'm excited. Probably gonna watch ahead after like the first episode, I imagine.

Godrick

didnt say "because you enjoy one you have to enjoy the other" I said "its pretty dang rare for someone to be a big anime fan and not FIND ANYTHING to enjoy in star wars" not at all a generalization. I specifically referenced the fact that theres a bunch of really good and very different animations... but okaaay

HBK713🏄🏾‍♂️

Bust through doors, this a reaction stick up 🥷🏾 upload them gawwddamm Dexter reactions now MF 🤣

Godrick

Brother, Oceans 11's entire run time from start to finish is 1 hour 45 minutes. This show took that much time just to introduce Axis and set up a heist. Im not saying those episodes didn't have a purpose, but a very well paced show couldve done those 3 episodes in a single hour or 2 episodes tops

Carlos

At least they can aim in this show lol. I wish the Death Troopers were shown more respect. Ain't nothing done right by them since Rogue One.

Requiem_Phantom

I would have to say that this show does more Star Wars world-building than any other live-action show or movie. Really fleshes out the galaxy of star wars.

Basedra

Listen you talking about “having that shit on” I need Tite Kubo to design me some clothes

Krype

Death troopers are basically cooler looking Storm troopers they don't do anything cool

Kreyain

Bro was seeing double and couldn't hear shit over his own breathing by the time he got up there

Krype

Yeah, but Ocean's Eleven is just another action/comedy. There were no real stakes in that movie, but the stakes were actually real in this heist. No one was safe; you saw how perfect they had to be in order to infiltrate because their lives were actually on the line.

jordansamuel

Nemik's manifesto is cold bro. Love hearing that. Like lupa said, “he was spittin’ when he wrote that shit”. Also maarva’s last words for cass were beautiful. S/o brasso, a real one

KalkiTheEternity

True and I didn’t mean to come across rude. I just never found Stars War interesting or engaging so I didn’t seek out any of the alternative media. The only Star Wars related thing I remember liking as a kid was the 2003 cartoon but I haven’t revisited that as an adult so who knows if that even holds up.

Ayojii

I get where Roshi is coming from, but I don’t really agree with the idea that the Mon scenes were inconsequential or redundant. Almost every scene has clear intent behind it—and if it’s not immediately obvious, they usually reveal the purpose a couple scenes later. Take the gambling discussion, for example. It might seem throwaway at first, but then it clicks when the driver is talking to the ISB. That kind of payoff feels intentional. Mon’s purpose in the story is to show the political battlefield.

Ayojii

Yeah hopefully we get it.

AG

Andor has the best portrayal of the Empire as a menacing, intimidating, overwhelming force in all of the Star Wars properties, in my opinion. They need to keep that sense of menace, competence and power for future Star Wars shows and movies.

revachol

You could definitely tell Andor's story without the Mothma scenes, but if the goal is to dive into the rebellion's beginnings in general and not just tell one person's part in it, her plot is obviously pretty relevant. With Syril, I guess it depends on what they do with him in season 2. If he plays a big part, the time spent developing his character might have been worth it. If not, I don't think his actions in season 1 were important enough to justify it, nor did he offer any unique perspective into the world or behind the scenes events like Mothma did. Still prefer this style of storytelling by far over the usual "hero's journey" stuff almost all Star Wars media deals in, though.

ChrisM

@4:24 I thought that was teddy ray. RIP to him

AnnaSama

I loved the tension in all of her scenes. I found them very satisfying. In the end, Mon Mothma is the rebellion. Without her money, there is nothing. Without her leadership, there is nothing. The point of rebellion is to create a new future. Without somebody the galaxy can rally around to form a new voting body, the next fascist in line will just takeover when you defeat the first. She is the center of everything, but she can do almost nothing.

Jacob Livingston

You 100% will. And watch it in the 3 ep arcs! That’s how it was released and makes it an even better watching experience. Season 1 is awesome. Season 2 is S tier.

CuteAdorableDog

"I did it, I fought the empire" Lupa took me out 🤣🤣🤣

Kemi Stanton

I understand where Roshi is coming from, but I'm curious to see if he feels the same by the end of season 2 - I have the whole picture so it's difficult for me to recall my mindset at the end of season one. So to me, Mon is extremely important - her and Luthen's arc are so closely intertwined that without her, you miss all the political intrigue and Luthen's covert connections to both the senate (Mon) and ISB (agent Jung). He's got his finger on the pulse of everything, and if either Mon or Jung go down, Luthen and the entire rebellion could go down with them. It's less action packed for sure, and they make you wait for it to pay off, but let it roll for now and I think it'll feel more relevant soon

Kemi Stanton

And this isn't me saying y'all don't appreciate the slow burn either, I appreciate that y'all don't mind when a scene takes time to breathe or the payoff to the buildup is way down the line. Just pointing out where I disagree on the Mon stuff specifically, and that my knowledge of season two might be making it more relevant to me in hindsight. Looking forward to seeing what y'all think!

Clinton the Bingethinker

“Try.” Damn. That whole speech is amazing but that last line especially 😭

Freeofgreed

100% agree with Roshi at the end. Great singular moments but terrible pacing. Andor is the best part, everything else is much worse.

Ge

Nemik’s manifesto is so well written in contrast to Yoda’s “do or do not, there is no try” because these are everyday people. No force abilities no Jedi no power ups, every day citizens who have no choice but to TRY.

Ayanda Mpofu

Bruh Lupa u too funny man 🤣

DestructoDiscman

Kinda bummed you guys didn't enjoy Andor as much as I did, but still really fun reactions and I'm looking forward to seeing your reaction to season 2! I disagree on the Mon Mothma stuff, but I can definitely see how it wouldn't read the same if you're not deep into the star wars lore, or a big politics nerd like myself. That anti-facism manifesto is so on point though. One of my favorite speechs not only in star wars, but media in general

Ellijah Brown

Yeah, I'm a Poli Sci nerd myself, so I love the political moves and speeches Mon Mothma makes. She's the political face of the rebellion after all in the original movies. But to each their own

Sam

Highly recommend Andor S2 to watch 3 eps a week since the show is structured that way

Danielle

I’ve made the same mistake before no worries

Godrick

yeaaah, im not comparing the stories themselves. Im simply remarking on the ability to tell a complete story in a reasonable amount of time

rayman

they’re basically special forces Storm Troopers that protect high ranking leaders and special assignments.

Krype

I know but for them to be considered special forces they suck

maud’dib

Its so interesting to hear these perspectives, because tbh Andors storyline was my least favorite, I was much more interested in the other storylines and his felt boring to me

maud’dib

me when I call out of work

Moon Man

Honestly hard disagree on the post-reaction discussion but hey, different strokes for different folks. I think it effectively portrays the spark, build-up and the extent/reach of the rebellion (that is already portrayed as passionate and powerful enough to fight back in the movies) to the point where it's interesting to see where the story brings you and where the Rebellion we later come to know, first builds itself and thrives. Before Andor you didn't really get a sense of how the less important characters (everyday people) in the universe went about their lives under the Empire's rule. It gives backstory to some of the biggest names relevant to the Empire/Rebellion story we've already come to know like Mon Mothma, Saw Gerrera, Cassian Andor, Wulf Yularen (typically only clone wars/older star wars fans know him), and a few of the minor characters carried through to Rogue One like Melshi. For reaction content I could see how your point make sense, too much overarching story and in-between episodes setting up exposition and the stakes of the story that you don't really have much to say by the end of the season. Mon Mothma's scenes are genuinely so good though, I think that opinion is just coming from a place of being told to watch this without really understanding the purpose this show serves in the series (which is expected tbh, we mostly tell you what to watch and you couldn't possibly prepare for each series you enter).

william batts

yeah those mon scenes are a build up for season 2

AWEEEH

When people say it's a slow burn they really meant it. Season 1 is really really slow and tbh I don't think I would have gone through it on my own. I might be in the minority but season 2 is so much better imo.

t500010000

Aunt Petunia great speech who knew!?

Eli Gi

39:04 Lupa too funny 💀

Zacost

Greatest speech ever !!! Resonating very loud with our world rn

AvatarJordy

I don’t know how you guys joke during some of the most emotional scenes tbh. I think you’ll appreciate the show more when you finish season 2 and watching rogue one hits so much harder after this

Wizard Michael

Their job is to react to it, I don’t think they’re failing to connect with the show at all

PJ

Rewatching Andor I think all the “slow burn” scenes that feel “unnecessary” that Roshi is referring to come full circle in Season 2. The pacing is what makes this show feel unlike anything we’ve ever seen in Star Wars, it’s honestly a breath of fresh air.

WTT_321

Meanwhile, Yoda's words to Luke were: "Do or Do Not. There is no 'try'." So Jedi have to "do" while normal people have to try.... Crazy to think about....

TimTakDoh

A lot of normie non star wars fans have this idea that Star Wars is all light saber fights and flashy action with cheesy lines. This is adult, real life in the Star Wars universe and also shows how the rebellion was built(the actual reason why the Empire fell, not just one man from a farm becoming a wizard.) It also shows what it takes to build a rebellion. Andor isn't just Star Wars it's PEAK Star Wars. it's honestly ruined most other star wars for me it's too good in comparison to the others

Jonathan Blaze

I get your critic of Season 1 but for me that redundant stuff didn't bother me that much because the show was so good. I want more of pretty much everything. 10 out of 10 season!

Oliver

Just did my rewatch and gotta admit when you know S2. S1 does not feel slow as it did the first time. You see SO MUCH more

Usagi

Andor doesn't care if you're itchy, you're gonna sit and look at these costumes and sets dammit.

Heidi Swedberg

"this doesnt feel like star wars" is a good thing by the way. star wars are children's movies, this is the first piece of star wars media that's made for adults and that's why it's better than the 9 movies combined.
