Such a phenomenal masterpiece! I can't believe how many reaction videos, articles, and podcasts I keep on trying to watch and listen to because this anime has left such an emotional impact to me. A perfect 10/10 and easily in my Top 5 of all time! Thank you guys for reacting to all 6 episodes. This last one was worth the wait!

i have been waiting and preparing myself for this and somehow i cried again. I love this anime with all my heart and as much as i wish there was more I think it being this short just fits somehow. There was no filler and there is nothing else to add. I genuinely love the ending it was realistic in a way because not everything was fixed but it was a lot less hurtful on them and they have someone to talk to in similar situations. Im not making any sense atp but TLDR 10/10 anime of the year.

The ending is so trash so the message of the show is forgive ur bullies and be in a abusive friendships with them? Plus takopi death literally had zero build up and how do we start the ep with he must kill her to oh I forgot I can kill myself and fix everything. It's crazy people was putting this up there with punpun what a joke!

I just love that the ending isnt a complete happy one. All their parents are still aint shit parents but they already have someone to help them through it.

I really like that this show is so grounded instead of complete fantasy you don't get a complete happy life and you don't get to fix your trauma instead you accept it and get on with your life with it being part of you and that's enough. They are both lonely but they can be lonely together

I literally already went through this before with the manga and yet I cried harder the second time. This adaptation is perfect

What a spectacular show. So many things it did right and so many great life lessons throughout: -People are complex and are capable of both good and bad rather than being one or the other -There is no magic fix to everything- tragic stuff still happens but you can push through -Some people are terrible for each other and it's better to go your separate ways rather than engage in a toxic relationship I even love the little after credits scene. It shows that you can accept people for who they are even with their "bad" characteristics. Marina is still prone to physical violence but Shizuka has adapted and pre-empts it. Shizuka is still self absorbed (she mostly ignores what Marina says and focuses on her own thoughts) but Marina is able to move past that rather than getting sucked into her world. 10/10 Masterpiece and so far it's easy anime of the year.

It seems as though every time a character says bye-bye in the show it means they are going to die. So when Azuma said it before Takopi saw Shizuka again it was inferring that he was going to kill himself to relieve the burden on his family.

One interesting thing of note: in Japanese culture, the Chameleon plant is apparently representative of self-sacrifice, which is why Marina got pissy about it when she saw it. It also serves as phenomenal foreshadowing for Takopi's ultimeate fate

I absolutely love this ending, those that are mad that the bully and victim became friends don't get what the message was at all, Takopi allowed them to have the one thing he couldn't give them, human connection.

10/10 AOTY for me , only nit-pick I would say is I wanted more from the conclusion I get that it just ends on this doodle and both of them getting a flashback and yes eventually they became friends and start relying on each other, as kids do fight and make up all the time but I wanted more from the doodle scene like them actually talking to each other cause their relationship is a little more complex than just normal kids.

Imagine 5 episodes in, we thought the OP was the biggest scam in anime history, just to find out, the scene of Takopi with his happy wings (insinuating he's a guardian angel) is using the happy rope to tie Shizuka and Marina together...

It’s such a good lesson in this show that you can’t control the unfortunate events that happened to you, but don’t let it dictate your life and you can always find your own happiness

In the end Takopi realised that he could only feel sad through directly experiencing pain, whether that was loss or when he took the form of both girls, he didn't have the understanding of being truly empathetic, so the greatest gift he could give to both girls were each other to remove that dread of solitude that both girls have been living their whole lives. I also think post post-credit scene had heavy emphasis on shizuka's school bag, her bag was dark and reddish and meshed (ink not very visible) in with death threats, dirty insults opposed to her post-skip being very clear and rid of the things that threaten her future.

This felt like going through the steps of depression. Maybe it didn't fully cure it, but it gives you the start to take the steps to move forward. There will definitely be bumps, stumbling backwards and questions that just don't have answers to them. We just got to be a bit more aware of our loved ones and be there for each other when needed.

I think the best part of the ending is that nothing was magically fixed, even talking it out didn't suddenly make their home lives better. But they managed to bond over the fact that their home lives sucked for both of them. The scar still ends up on Marina's face and Shizuka's mom (presumably) doesn't start suddenly being present. But they still came together because talking healed them enough to look past harshness.

I like that this ending felt a little realistic, as others have said. That their home lives don't magically get fixed, Azuma probably still has problems with his mother, Marina still gets the scar, Shizuka's mother still isn't present/her father probably will never see her, etc. but there are glimmers of hope through Takopi's influence, even if they don't remember. The main thing I'm happy about is Marina and Shizuka bonding. Therapy in the future WILL be needed lmao If the manga ever does a one-shot to show something more about this trio in the future, I wouldn't be mad at it, but stellar series regardless.

This show was a roller-coaster and definitely force choked my emotions. 🤧 I like that the ending was a bit realistic no one's situations were truly fixed and that's how life is. The lesson of sometimes people just need someone to talk to instead of someone to fix their problems is something I've personally had to learn. Moving from that 10/10 show

"We never even tried to talk about it" - Marco, AOT. A short time to talk about your problems always helps rather than being rash and jumping to actions. I'm glad Marina and Shizuka found common ground and actually bonded, I know Marina did terrible things but I still felt sorry for her cause she was 9 years old during that time, same with Shizuka. I'm glad the ending wasn't a fully happy one, more bitter-sweet which is perfect for the tone of this show. Fantastic 10/10 for me too.

I'm guessing that Marina gets attacked by her mom and receives the scar when her dad runs off with Shizuka's mom, and that happens in every timeline. Marina getting hit with a broken glass is probably the scene we would have gotten in ep 3 if Marina's mom hadn't realized that Marina (who was actually Takopi) was acting strange. But now that they're friends, they can support each other through the lose of a parent. On the other hand, I don't think Shizuka would attempt suicide in this timeline because she never lost Chappy and she's not getting bullied by Marina anymore. I guess that means Marina is probably getting more emotional support from Shizuka than the other way around, and I think that's really wholesome. I'd really like too see a longer epilog of their weird friendship and how they support each other.
