paint thinner girl still catching strays

TJ115

This show has become my favorite of the anime season so far! Every episode has been so good but also slightly unsettling.

Isaac

Everyone shipping Kohei and Toshi ( Hikaru and Yoshiki's dads) and I'm on that same damn boat. And ngl they both kinda fine. Ship the daddies.

KomodoughDragon

I've seen a lot of people compare Hikaru to a newborn, and while I mostly agree with that, I think it's more apt to compare him to a dog or a cat, or any animal really. He's not entirely clueless about the world around him, he's clueless about how to be human. Hikaru has instincts, and he acts on those instincts, without any real thought into why he does things or if it's morally correct. Dogs and cats have instincts to kill prey or defend their territory. Despite their instincts, we still love them, and if a dog catches a squirrel in the backyard, most people aren't punishing it for it. You might try to train the behaviour out of the dog, but there's no guarantee you'll be successful. Yoshiki can think to himself all he wants that he can teach Hikaru to be human, but Hikaru isn't human, and he's going to continue behaving in a way that isn't.

Wait, who is this paint thinner girl they keep mentioning? 😅

ViralCorgi

20:22 Specifically she doesn't realize Hikaru is dead. She thinks there's just a spirit hanging onto him that neither he nor Yoshiki is aware of. Also, remember, unlike Yoshiki, she can't actually see them, so what happened with Hikaru trying to kill her she didn't visually see it. In her eyes he was just leaning close to her face and then she fainted.

ViralCorgi

Yoshiki being Mr. “I can fix him” and running back to this toxic a$$ relationship every ep is killing me 😭 Sir if you arrived 3 seconds later your friend would have been clapped. And he BRUTALLY murdered that old woman and went to school the next day laughing and making jokes like sh*t was sweet 🥹 His delusional behind better come up with a contingency plan or get some demon kryptonite or something 💀😂 #HeDontWannaBeSaved

Limini

It's crazy what grief does to you. Just sleep about for a night and you're going to school again with an eldritch monster that has killed people

xProKnockz

At least paint thinner girl was prepared💀

Isaac

Imma be real, I aint mad at Asako for confronting 'Hikaru'. First off, she doesnt know 'Hikaru' is a murderer. She said at first she thought it was bad but that she noticed how it was looking out for Yoshiki so he must be a good soul which is why she brought it up to try and get to know it better and understand it. Paint thinner girl was way off with her dumbass confronting what she knew was a psycho murderer thinking she could stop him so honestly I aint gonna disrespect Asako by comparing her to that dumb chick. She had no malice in her question. Only curiousity. 'Hikaru' just unfortunately overreacted and she got lucky because of plot. And let's not forget Yoshiki did the exact same thing episode 1 knowing nothing and was lucky it didnt kill him because of plot.

Didneyland is one step too close to Diddyland.

Episode 7 💀 the people that know....know.

Jelly016

could be wrong but I'm pretty sure black haired child is the same black haired friend in episode 4 that Asako warned not to take a specific route home. I think it's cool how there's a bit of a parallel. Asako hears spirits and warns Yuuki of imminent danger; meanwhile Hikaru protects Yoshiki from other spirits

Matthew Bankston

I'm glad I'm not the only one who picked up on the abusive/toxic relationship parallel. The way Yoshiki keeps going back to Hikaru, knowing this yokai is dangerous, is very similar to learned helplessness. Learned helplessness, to put it simply, is a mentality of damned if you do, damned if you don't. Where the abused person (in this case, Yoshiki) knows their situation is bad, but also doesn't believe that if they leave, things will get better. In some cases, they even believe they don't deserve anything better. This thing has already threatened him and tried to kill him once. He now knows this thing killed the old woman, and he just saw it trying to kill Asako. But he's gonna ignore all those red flags and focus on either keeping his friend or the occasional good thing it does. But Yoshiki is playing with fire right now. It's like he's taken a 600lb full-grown tiger out of the wild and is trying to domesticate it into a house cat. Bro, at some point, that tiger is gonna tiger. And eventually it's going to hurt someone he cares about or Yoshiki himself. Something else I thought of that's also concerning. So far in the show, there have been three instances where a person realized Hikaru wasn't the real one and confronted him about it (Yoshiki, Ms. Matsuura, and now Asako). And in all three occasions, Hikaru perceived the potential exposure as a threat to his being, then attempted to eliminate that threat. Something to keep in mind moving forward.

Interesting fact from the author themself : The clinking sound that little Asako heard was the sound of a Japanese armour. So the ghost who tried to warn Yuki about the car was most likely a samurai. (That's so cool!!🤯)

charmaine

he don’t understand the concept of life and thinks it’s no different if he actually killed asako yet he knew he hated the previous form he was in and even said he didn’t wanna have to kill yoshiki when he exposed him first episode

XORA NICO

That “INFINITY!” “INFINITY” made me laugh out loud ngl 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Nikabee

This really went from "The Summer Hikaru Died" to "The Summer Where I Take What I Can Get" 💀

TALK NO JUTSU

So 2 things, 1 she save the little girl from crossing the street, that was the same girl she saved from crossing the train tracks, aka her friend. 2 she still think Hikaru is alive, she just think he got posses

DJ Muldrow

Paint thinner girl such a throwback man imma rewatch parasyte soon 😭

Clrissa young

Upon rewatching I think the thing under the light post is the same thing Tanaka summoned with the bell at the end of the ep 5? In that scene when he threw the bell something flashed on the screen and it looked kinda like that thing. Might be wrong tho. Both could just been jumpscares

Aericka Parks

Hikaru made the old lady’s death look like some sort of weird suicide and with the town already thinking she was batshit crazy he knew it was a scott-free kill, so with the girl I feel like he would’ve killed her in a clever way as well, maybe putting her in a death coma and running back with her body claiming she had a heart attack

Bona Fide

Protect Yoshiki I'm so stressed

Taiwo Aileru

I think Hikaru is conflicted to whether he even had a "life" prior to taking over Hikaru, he's neither the entity nor is he Hikaru's memories, he might genuinely have his own feelings for Yoshiki

arnold peterson

Love the swampman story since it’s the same story told in Summertime rendering

GojosHoho

I don't know if you try to murder our friend if we're going to be walking to school the next day together 😭💀💀 idk you gonna have to catch me at lunch or something

Nie

Late but, I'm pretty sure "Swampman" was also referenced in Summertime Rendering. Same thing about the character being replaced by a look alike.

Ekko08

This show is soo good. So its just double confirmed that New Hikaru's instincts are fighting with old Hikaru's memories. And they are fighting so much that's its blurring the lines of how he is feeling. On one hand he sees Yoshiki's soul and wants to hold it, but to do that Yoshiki has to die which part of him doesn't want. It's interesting seeing how New Hikaru's outlook on life and death seemingly can be changed by Yoshiki. Yoshiki is practically molding/teaching him.

PJ Rivera

The swampman thought experiment was in summertime leveling as well interesting, similar themes and the western version would be the ship of theseus paradox. You got theseus ship and over years replace parts of it as you repair it until none of the original parts are left thus is it still the same ship?
