Hey roshi, I was wondering if you and the gang would be willing to do a rewatch reaction to rogue one especially since the added context of the show makes the movie hit even harder. I’ve seen other channels do the same and I think it would be cool. I understand the schedule is packed so take this with a grain of salt haha.

Hi guys! After seeing you guys get into Andor I’ve been thinking of recommending 2 things 1. Rogue one rewatch. Andor flows perfectly into rogue one and it’s a great watch it’s really Andor s3 and I think it would very enjoyable for u guys(this doesn’t have to even be a reaction, just a recommendation) 2. A reaction to the animated tv show Star Wars Rebels. It’s a kids show that has its problems in the first season, but it ends up turning into great Star Wars tv. It even has some(very small amount) interaction with Mon’s story line. You get introduced to great characters, like kanan and Thrawn and a very good storyline. Plus, since you guys have watched Ahsoka a lot more will make sense after watching rebels. Highly recommend and I think you guys will enjoy it! Would love to see a reaction of it

“Why is the armor so weak?” Because the lack of regard for humanity inherent to authoritarianism always comes back to eat its own. Theres no real accountability system once you have total control because you no longer have anyone to answer to. So if the imperial army has shit armor and gets its own soldiers killed so what? Its not like the senate can make the emperor answer for it. And in this way the authoritarians make themselves weak.

About the armor, it's supposed to block shrapnel, not blaster bolts. Stuff like pieces of metal and dirt flying at fast speeds from explosions. Also, these aren't even stormtroopers, just 9-5 security guards, they're on the lowest of the lowest rung

Stormtrooper armor mostly serves two functions: environmental/ blunt force protection and, as Sheera said, psychological intimidation. The helmet design evokes the image of a skull for a reason. But the usefulness of armor in general really just depends on what the story calls for. The K2 units in this show are impervious to most blaster fire, whereas in Rogue One they’re more easily damaged by it. But some novels have tried to explain it by saying some blasters are just stronger than others.

So assuming you guys hadn't watched Rebels yet, that stone tablet at 15:28 w/ the hand signs/symbols on it? That's an easter egg from Rebel's Season 4 when Ezra and Sabine were studying that fragment from the Jedi temple when they were about to pull off some crazy shit on his home planet on Lothal (I think some time traveling chaos or whatever). I love that little callback there....! Also Roshi, to quote what Rex from Rebels said about the Stormtrooper armor (paraphrasing more like since it's been a long time since I watched Rebels lol): "their armor is trash compared to a clone trooper's armor" lol 😂

Another thing about the armor, clone trooper armor (18 years prior to this) could absorb some of the energy some times, you might still die, but at least you wouldnt get a hole through your chest. When the emperor came to power in 19BBY the Grand Army of the Republic became the Imperial army, and my pet theory is the uniform’s similarity to clone armor was used to create a sense of continuity during the transition. People already liked the clones, they were heroes. And when they put on imperial armor it was different, but they were already used to people in mostly white armor. Narratively its a plot device.

The explanation for the armor being ineffectual is because of the fact that Beskar exists. Used by Mandalorians, Beskar is highly valuable since it does offer very high-level protection against blasters and lightsabers.. so in order for Beskar to retain its value, in the lore, they cannot give other types of armor (especially low-level armor that are plentiful) any real ability to protect against blasters and such. But yeah, the purpose of the stormtrooper armor is mainly for intimidation (the look of the armor), but also has protection (depending on the armor) against the elements/climate, explosions, hand-thrown projectiles (like rocks and pebbles), just protecting against real-world type stuff, lmao.

My understanding of the Stormtrooper light armor is that the white is a reflective surface that will repel glancing shots from energy bolts, but a straight-on blaster shot will punch right through. It's almost more of a uniform than it is functional armor.

This was far and away my personal favorite episode of the whole series. I absolutely cannot watch it without crying. Single dad who raised my stepdaughter alone, so the lone wolf and daughter thing is always gonna destroy me. It was executed so perfectly here. When you re-watch and see Luthen say “Move” to Kleya in the beginning, it hits SO hard.

I just remembered that Heert talking to Dedra was the same one that was the enthusiastic one from Season 1 who helped her look up files left and right regarding Andor/Luthen (aka "Axis").... Crazy how he suddenly got the promotion to overthrow Dedra's position.

Pretty sure the armor disperses the heat and force enough to save their lives, but not enough to keep them conscious up and fighting. So better to have than not, cuz you could be saved if you get medical attention. But if you get shot and no armor then you're extra crispy

Elizabeth Dulau (the actress for Kleya) said in an interview I stumbled upon that Kleya didn't see Luthen like a father, because that would imply that she had forgiven him for what he participated in doing to her people. She hated him for that, but she also allowed love to develop and coexist with that hate as they fought together against the Empire, seeing the lengths he was willing to go for that goal. Her being able to cry for him and kiss him on the forehead felt to me like she was finally letting go of that hate because he was gone.

The storm trooper armor does provide some measure of protection, but as Sheera mentioned its more for uniformity. Every storm trooper looks the same encourages a group mindset and fosters unity. Us vs Them.

Idk if this explanation is canon, but I saw a comment before that blasters have different grades of power/penetration/etc and Storm Trooper armor is proficient against lower grades, while anything higher grade is made illegal by the empire to limit its use against them, for a rebellion though that just means you know exactly what weapons would work against them. Idk that the show creators intend that with different blaster fire having different colors. Cool if canon though! adds to the whole "the empire's hubris was part of its downfall" kinda vibe
