All the Chinese guy was trying to say was "China has abandoned communism in favor of capitalism, but if everyone's a UI it will solve all the problems of resource scarcity. We can all truly be equal and finally have *real* communism"

Interesting note: The VA for Stephen Holstorm, William Hurt, ended up passing away before S1's release and it ended up being his last role ever but he did record all of his lines beforehand 🙂. It's seems really fitting though unfortunately ironic that the final character they voiced was released posthumously and is the character trying to transcend death 😂. It's a very cool last legacy for a legend of a VA🙂

What that old chinese guy was talking about....you kinda need to know some chinese history of the past 100 or so years. Starting with the "Great Leap Foward" (a era of time in China, following Japan takeover, and adoption of communism........interesting time period) This was HEAVILY referenced in 3 Body Problem (show + books)

I forget that not everyone is political theory pilled. The old man chanda was talking to is a Marxist. He believes that history and society moves thru different stages (it’s a form of social evolution). In his opinion, by getting rid of the material body through uploaded intelligence, society will be able to move beyond capitalism and its material problems (unequal distribution of resources, and general inequality), and finally transition towards an “end point” of socialism or communism

Yep! The creator of this series really knows his stuff and did a really good job of conveying how people of differing ideologies would react to UI. Like of course it would be seen by Marxists as a way to transition away from capitalism

I rarely comment but replying to this because I was also kinda unable to watch the episode because of the lack of subtitles. And I know there's a pretty vibrant audience here with varying audio/visual based disabilities subscribed to the channel that love these reactions but struggle to watch or engage without subtitles on the episode dialogue. If it's a case where it's impossible to get the subtitles for certain shows I definitely understand, but since the last season was subtitled I was a bit surprised here. And I'm also used to the couch being pretty open about hiccups and stuff like changes to the reaction so I'm also wondering if maybe this was an upload error or if they even realized that the subtitles were gone. Hoping to hear an update from them, not really sure how to get a message to them but hoping that maybe this thread might catch their attention. (And saying all of this not to be a nuisance but just to share my experience)

you guys misinterpreted the interaction with the black government guy near the end. The opposite of what you thought is happening.. he's the one being held in the dark as he doesnt know caspian is a clone of holstrom and IS actually in charge for all intents and purposes until the real holstrm is uploaded. Pope was trying to rush the conversation along as he doesn't want to expose that they not only cloned holstrom but were the first ones to start uploading people and basically created this whole problem. Remember when the government first approached them about UI they acted like they didn't know anything about it and were just here to help crack the flaw.
