This about to be a random ass comparison but in the Disney show Kick’in it there was a episode where the main character Jack gets attacked by a bunch of disguised guys and his cousin comes in with suspicious timing to beat the guys up and save him. Then it later turns out the attacked was organized by his cousin. The fight in the bedroom with the soldiers gives off the same vibe. And would explain why they didn’t shoot the guy who bust through the door when they absolutely easily could’ve.

Oops my fault for not explaining further. It does to an extent but the only reason why pennywise died in the movies is because he played too much to the point they stopped being scared of him. (Also the turtle lol) If it doesn't want to deal with you he can essentially just scare them for a second then kill them. Which is was happened to most of the group in episode one
