Hey Roshi, can u send me a twerking video for my Birthday😁? Nah but for real, i just wanted to say i really appreciate your consistency and hard work. Your uploads always get me through the week and it's great i can end the day watching your reactions 😁.

CentipedeKid

I think people need to understand that at it's core uploading is just killing yourself. The idea what uploads are alive and real is a a delusion. It's essentially a ghost of a person. Sure they believe they are alive and it's easier to go along with it then to accept the person is gone especially when another version is still floating along. Psychologically it would fuck a lot of people up and we see it. Death is terrifying and hard to accept but in a secular world like this one to some people would rather exercise control in one final action and what better action to people with shitty lives then the fantasy of becoming a god. Maddie should be upset her mother chose to kill herself and the ghost tries to justify it. This episode really bothered me. All I could think about is that Maddie was broken beyond belief and her story this story is tragic. For everyone. In man's attempt to conquer death they doomed themselves to eternal suffering in a world of their creation.

CentipedeKid

Baked now might try to explain it better later if anyone is open talking about the uploading and it's issues.

Kisuke01

Shut up 😞

Kisuke01

Maddie watched her dad die 3 times there's no shot uploads are gonna convince me that they're alive I wouldn't want to grieve again if something happened. I'm honestly sad that Caspian had to sacrifice himself the life he could've lived with him and Maddie raising their son together man shit is depressing

King of New York

Genuinely insane. Next episode is one of the craziest episodes I’ve ever seen.

Kisuke01

Man Caspian and Maddie being two traumatized teens consoling in each other only to have that ripped away for 20 years is insane why did the creator do this 😭

Dallas

Maddie I’ll always be on your side 💔💔💔

CentipedeKid

I agree with the right to suicide but this is just fucked up. Crazy part is we are at the first part suicide with no gain is here through MAID. Imagine if they could frame it as ascending to a higher life. The lines would be miles long.

Dallas

Caspian dgaf about MIST confessing to him lmaoo

CentipedeKid

You get it. That's why this ending bothers me. It's sad.

Gwyn

It's the same problem with telaportation, or like the maulers from invincible. The original is really dead, but in creating a perfect copy, it's almost like their still alive. Now, Cloud Intelligences, are a different topic.

Rai

Idk if anyone mentioned it but Caspians va is the riddler from the batman

jimbo

In reality that is the case. This is basically science fantasy so just pretend like it's magic or something for the sake of enjoying the story.

CentipedeKid

But I don't think that's what you are supposed to do here. They've told us so many times how dark this situation is.

Rai

Yea i liked the ending but it left me with this profound sadness for what could've been yk

Nick

Can't wait for the reaction for the finale episode. It's going to be a fun time.

Rai

Don't remind us 😞

PolarToni

so excited for tomorrow. Praying for a double upload tonight somehow lmao

PolarToni

centipede it's not that deep.

Anon7524

Look I don't want to invalidate your opinion, but the main thing the show is trying to accomplish is reality is relative and usually based on perception. In this case embodied death is meant to be a thing seen as relative and subjective throughout the entire 16 episode run, not some thing with a clear cut answer; which is a known concept in basically every genre (ex. Ghost in the Machine, afterlife of religion, etc.)

Anon7524

Their whole reaction to the Caspian and David beach scene is so perfect 🙂

revachol

Whether uploading kills is a philosophical question. Similar to (as brought up here already) whether Star Trek teleportation kills by dispersing your atoms and "reassembling" you from different atoms somewhere else. If you believe in animalism, uploading is death. If you believe that a person is defined by psychological continuity, you probably keep on living as the upload.

CentipedeKid

I don't think that's what they were ever going for. I think that's the idea they in the show are trying to convey to people but as the audience we see how it's not just a difference in perspective. We literally see that before the flaw at their core they were on a level beyond comprehension. We watch most of the show through Maddie and even she sees it as suicide.

GonkDroidCritic

This YouTuber here does a better job at analyzing and explaining this episode: https://youtu.be/Jy2EYLuMN_8?si=o-Yc5bEcHcnuwblm . But whether the person uploading is either dead or alive doesn’t change the fact that it’s gonna be the new norm, you can’t stop the future of this technology as people are already taking it’s advantages that benefits both the digital and real world. Maddie is obviously representing someone stuck in the past, like nostalgia, she can’t move on from her Dad and Caspian, choosing to cling on to her son, who’s the last gift Caspian left for her. There’s only two options, either choose to stay in past reminiscing on nostalgia or move forward towards the future.

CentipedeKid

But it's not we watched as Chanda was murdered. It's still the same tech you have to die for a uploaded version to exist. You just don't want to see it that way because it's difficult to accept. Not everything is up for philosophical debate. This isn't the ship of thessius.

Garneac

This show is soooo good. They really did their thing with Pantheon. This is what we mean by speculative fiction. Excited for the finale. If you could kindly drop that early or something. I'm getting Snowfall/IWTV withdrawal vibes. Don't starve us, Roshi.

aegismk2

the parallel's in this episode is what made me put this in my top 5 animations when i saw this way back

Vinne

Yknow what's crazy is think pantheon ended where it needed to end or else it would've dragged on too long

Delinda Arts

Time skip Maddie wassup??🫠💕

RichxHim

Man OPM has just good animation

PyroPhoenix

Wait hold up..so is that David..from an alternate timeline where he lives? Cause he kept talking as if himself in “HERE” is dead and anybody “HERE” doesn’t know about THIS David’s existence..he also said he is very far away. Is this hinting at the fact that a strong enough UI can travel through all timelines?? Is that David, the david from the timeline where Caspian manages to give him the cure and make him the UI god? o.o

2-bit

next episode gonna blow your mind

Disoma

MIST kind of bad tho ngl.

Disoma

I'm of the view that the way they expressed it in the show, uploading is pretty much killing yourself, and creating a really good copy of yourself. The only way I could see uploading actually maintaining your "soul" is by completing sub-cellular neural replacement where parts of your brain are replaced by artificial equivalents, and the entire process happens while you are still conscious.

Matthew Osteen

I agree yeah. I think Maddie's perspective is the one I agree with most. My problem is the show seems like it wants to portray her perspective as the wrong one and that's what's causing me to struggle with this ending the most. Haven't seen the last episode but I think I know the direction they're going in.

Uriel

"Is it over 9,000?"

CentipedeKid

Maddie isn't wrong she learned what makes us human and the things that separate us from every truly being connected with UI. I actually think that's why she developed the bot bodies to branch them together in a interactible way so they could still have that link to humanity but they opted for the digital world anyway. Their loved ones eventually found them inferior and moved on and now the people that remain naturally adopt into wanting to upload not because this world is terrible or beyond redemption it's because they are depressed and want more of relief the uploaded version is just a ghost programmed to think it wants to be there.

the Forgiven

And Cary was Harvey Dent in the Dark Knight.

CentipedeKid

Crazy thing is they showed us what happens when you put someone in that doesn't want to be there it's a hell like existence. Look a Chanda. He was the intro to how they aren't like us.

the Forgiven

I just want to say it's really cool to see great American adult animation that takes its story seriously and is not about superheroes.

Ekko08

It really became like an alternate version of Cyberpunk. Everything is different, there's a lot going on/changed, and I'm even more LOCKED in 🧎🏾

GonkDroidCritic

So you’re considering them as AI, reminder most of the view you seen are in Maddie perspectives and she tends to be a hypocrite swapping back-and-forth on whether she they’re alive or not, the last episode is gonna dismiss the whole soul argument.

SonOfMan

They about to be cooked next episode

Gilthwixt

We're gonna stray into tinfoil hat theory here if you get me started on this lol. Why do you think corpos are pushing AI so hard? The world would be a lot more fun for billionaires if they didn't depend on the rest of us to keep everything running 👀

Magnis

so bad for no reason gone head and bring grandma over here too

Delinda Arts

I mean let’s REALLY talk about it. Coupet too lmao

Delinda Arts

They been doing this on all the posts. They going through the 7 stages of grief

Learning Leisure

Oh man, judging from all the comments here, alot of people are not gonna enjoy the last episode. (I enjoyed it, but I can tell it's gonna be controversial)

Ultra Sen

Maddie's viewpoint at this point of the story is just a mechanism to further fuel the various philosophical ideas that the show tackles. Ex. What makes a human different from a UI? Does uploading actually mean death? etc

Drake Rage

Quick Math, 20 human years would be 1600 years for the UI/CI if they overclock like Maddie's mom. Since 3 weeks was 5 years for her (12:58). 1 year is 80 years for them if they overclock like Maddie's mom. At least MIST for sure would be over 1600 years since she prolly regularly runs at high speeds and she has been there the whole time.

Zanni

*5 years.

Son Goku

Will you guys react to sandman season 2?

CentipedeKid

Go full tinskin I wanna know

CentipedeKid

Maddie says her clear opinion it's suicide nothing else. Her being a liason is dealing with the aftermath because at the end of the day you have to address the ghost god version that can nuke the fucking planet. Some will see them as family others see them as a clone like Maddie. There is a reason she doesn't say Mom anymore.

revachol

Dunno. Don't see why this wouldn't be up for philosophical debate. Yeah, you die physical death to upload, but that only ends your existence if people really are primarily defined by the bodies they inhabit. Doesn't seem to me like the show is siding with you that clearly, either. Maddie might not want her son to upload, but she clearly does think of, e.g., uploaded Android Caspian as real Caspian, judging by their interactions.

CentipedeKid

The show clearly sides with death. It's so abruptly clear that in order to believe they are alive you'd have to have completely given into the propaganda the show was feeding a ignorant population. Maddie flat out said it's suicide. We have seen it's suicide. They refer to Caspian dying. It's subtle but that's the point. It's the quite part overshadowed by a fantasy world. The reason it's not up for debate is you won't be the one to experience anything in that digital world. You can't. What is left is a clone. Now you can debate what to do with it or how to interact with it but it's not the original and that's why she doesn't refer to her mother as Mom. Her mother is dead and unfortunately she has to now deal with the digital version of her. Just like everyone else whether they believe they are alive doesn't even matter. They exist have the power to destroy the world and have to be addressed. They are effectively unavoidable.

sol jam

After the finale you guys should go back to season 1 episode 1 in the first 1 minute you will see something that will blow your mind

Jeffison

i do feel like one episode more could've helped? idk, for me i had literally no clue what even happend in the ending and had to look it up. it makes sense after looking it up but otherwise i really wouldn't have known what was going on lol

Dohyun Lee

I'm not gonna lie I think you've completely misunderstood a lot of the dialog in this episode. maddie absolutely believes uploads are supplemental to real people, otherwise she wouldn't be treating her mom or caspian as the people they were before upload. she wouldn't have grieved for david or caspian when their uploads "died". when she mentions suicide it's during the conversation with her mom about uploading. notice when ellen mentions being able to make the choice of ending your uploaded self maddie mentions suicide, implying she sees uploads as living people. if you look back at the meteorite scene where maddie solidifies her decision to never upload she never mentions thinking that uploading would be a hollow existence or that she would cease to exist as her real self. the only thing she mentions is wanting to avoid living billions of years with the pain and suffering she carries, implying that she absolutely thinks uploading is a continuation of consciousness. whenever she fights with dave about uploading, the conversation isn't about whether he would be "real" or not once he's uploaded. in fact, maddie doesn't have a rebuttal of any kind because she knows he's right. she's just imposing her fear of uploading onto him.

CentipedeKid

Once again she's only doing that because it's the simplest way at handling the situation they exist whether she agrees with them being alive or not.

CentipedeKid

I also think you misunderstand her character. Maddie is upset about their uploads dying because it like watching her loved ones die again. It's just reliving past trauma. So yeah she's upset. It's called being human. Doesn't mean she believed they were alive.

Dohyun Lee

pantheon is ultimately about how perception is the only thing that can determine what is "real". the ending calls into question the "realness" of the entire show. the entire thing could have occurred within a simulation, none of it being "real" which would mean ultimately it's all fake and just dumb little ghosts thinking they're alive playing games in a fake world. I don't understand your hangups about treating uploaded humans as human when it's possible the entire show could have happened within a computer. it's the entire goddamn point of the show to make you question why we don't accept different forms of reality when our reality is merely real to us because we perceive it to be so.

CentipedeKid

But it is Maddie calls uploading suicide she refers to him as dying

CentipedeKid

That was never the argument it was trying to convey. That's how they tried to sell it to the ignorant people in the show. Watch Handmaids tale you might understand it better through that. You were sold into the believe perception matters more then objective reality. But the objective reality is these people uploading are just killing themselves the upload is just dressing it up to make it sound better. Holstrom didn't see a issue with killing people because it's no different then uploading they just don't get the plus of enjoying it like that version got to. His goal was to create a utopia that people would choose over life. The man had a ego problem and wanted to become God. He wanted to defy death. He's the fucking antichrist of the verse. He wanted to create and control his own heaven. The truth is he created something so intoxicating people were completely willing to throw away common sense to get a piece.

CentipedeKid

The most depressing for sure it felt like the natural conclusion based on this episode though

CentipedeKid

They still aren't together he's dead and she had to relive that shit that's the sad thing

Jett33

Nah his show cranked up fr im loving it

AutumnOnFire

THIS IS A MINOR SPOILER SO IGNORE IF YOU DON'T WANT IT. This is just a personal take, but I really wish they explored Mist's love for Caspian more. Maybe it's because I like the drama, but I really think that Mist's emotions is being understated. She's a CI, her basis for emotion could be completely foreign but at the same time totally understandable. Like that's CRAZY.

the Forgiven

Why are you still here when you are obviously completely uninterested in what the show is about? Pantheon raises many deep philosophical questions about life and humanity and you are just completely dismissive from the get-go.

Dohyun Lee

no offense but did you even watch the show. there is no "objective reality". maddie literally inserts herself into the start of the show. the entire story is circular and for all we know this could be the 53rd layer of the simulation. "but the objective reality is these people uploading are just killing themselves" like what are you even talking about. you never explain your point besides just repeating yourself over and over again "erm its actually suicide because they said the word suicide once out of context therefore it's suicide and uploads aren't real people because I don't think they are". maddie doesn't call ellen mom because she's mad at her. she called david dad so that point you made is moot. she isn't just interacting with her uploaded family because she's afraid of them nuking her. she does not say or imply that once. also holstorm is the antichrist of the verse for wanting to defy death and become god? so maddie is actually the antichrist of the verse? holstrom also very much differentiates between the dead and the uploaded. his plan was to literally kill millions of people in order to force the world into uploading. he's just impartial to killing people because he's a maniac.

Narcissistic Humility

Would it not be around 86.5 UI years in 1 human year since there are circa 52 weeks in a year? There are around 17.3 recurring groups of 3 weeks in a year and in every 3 human week span the UI are experiencing 5 years. So it would be 17.3r x 5 to work out how many equivalent years that the UI experiences in one year.

Drake Rage

12 months, 4 weeks each, so per year calculation I did ((12*4)/3)*5 = 80 years for UI while overclocking per 1 human year, using Maddie's mom.. erm Ellen's case. But yea, for the number of days it will be what you said considering months have 30-31 days mostly instead of 28 days. But since they don't consistently overclock like Ellen (Ellen said she had to overclock a lot for her job or something), the overall figure would still be roughly accurate in either case.

Owen Halloran

through perfect automation via AI, manny of the darker conspiracies become ominously tangible. With no need for a large human workforce, mass population control/eugenics can now be spun for "the greater good" . Morality itself could be thrown out the window in exchange for following the "flawless logic" of an AI.

L S

centipedekid really doesnt understand this show... maddies perspective (which has changed often) doesnt dictate the reality in this show

Luciaron

Hmm, if the uploaded are that good at controlling robots you think they could figure out how to build a spaceship and send some robots to Mars to build their own servers. No need to even worry about humans, just spread out into space without them.

Kevin

One cool thing this show does that I think is phenomenal is talk about the speed of human evolution. It reminds me of the Three Body Problem. The aliens feared how far we could get with our technology if left unchecked

Anon7524

... I just checked this thread because I got a notification on my response about reality and perception that ratiod the OPs and noticed how long this chain goes mostly with their arguments. I haven't back read since I don't want to involve further in the conversation, but I'll lend some generic advice for a person in the hole "if this many people tell me I'm drunk, it's probably time to sit down"😅

CentipedeKid

Canada is the current test. They abuse MAID and have who I'd argue as the modern day Dr Death who kill you in under 24 hours in her own home.

CentipedeKid

It doesn't matter how many idiots tell you 2+2=5 it's still 4. Fuck outta here the popular opinion isn't necessarily the right one.

Anon7524

@CentipedeKid "It doesn't matter how many idiots tell you 2+2=5 it's still 4. Fuck outta here the popular opinion isn't necessarily the right one." To clarify who are the idiots here?😅 The people who commented with factual counter statements like me (I presume they are factual as I will not back read, so I apologize in advance if false), or the people who just don't agree with your opinion, including those who don't comment but liked others comments?😅😅😅. Either way it seems you're resorting to insults here

CentipedeKid

I'm done y'all can think whatever you want. Talking to idiots is pointless. They are dead end of discussion.

Keevondrick Womack

Okay, that was a lot. But we glazed over the fact that a lab made human/clone is still capable of having children!? Why didn't they work more on that instead of immediately jumping to ditching human bodies altogether? Could've did some brain chip, memory download thing with that. I know the show is more about UI and CI, but goddamn did they jump right in the deep end.

Jonathan Hart

It's more platonic love and admiration if anything

Dohyun Lee

how can you be so sure and so stupid at the same time. rewatch the last episode. maddie literally admits that she thinks uploaded intelligences are alive and refuses to upload because she doesn't want to live with the pain of losing her loved ones for all eternity. you are the idiot here for completely misunderstanding every single thing about the show and acting like you're playing some kind of virtuous 1v20. fuck outta here with that dumb shit

CentipedeKid

She also calls it suicide what's your point the woman is fucked up. The point is we've seen how it's suicide and they have said the brain is destroyed.

Gilthwixt

I think the idea is the UI process is destructive and doesn't work in reverse. It's likely they could have eventually figured it out but by the time they could, nobody would want that anymore. Also, have you seen Altered Carbon? Not the greatest alternative lol.

L S

this show is so peak... and its scary how close this show hits home cause i literally listened to an interview of Dr. Roman Yampolskiy whos a professor at university of louisville and researched AI for a long time and now acts to propagate ethics and he genuinely talked about damn near everything that happened in this show, he focuses on superintelligence but he even mentioned UI and talked about how a superintelligence could create viruses... and the pace of technological advancement... this show released just as all of this AI stuff was getting attention from the public in the first place next episode is even more peak - but tbh Pantheon is an optimistic version of how this goes, partially because they assume upload works completely

artisticSarcasm

Its like when you're playing one of those civ games and you can choose two paths to upgrade to, least in this case that's how I saw it. Cloning was already kinda already being done like now hush hush, but the whole UI and CI thing seems to have more advantages with coding speeds and the ability to live lifetimes in moments.

Inconspicuous Pug

Its uploaded, it just doesn't have the "pantheon" tag

Sadiq

I partially grew up in the quiet and somewhat empty town of Covilha in the cold Northern Portuguese mountains - so it was a mind-trip for me to learn that they picked it as a location for a data center that gets bombed in a sci-fi TV show, let alone being chosen as the location for that to hapen in this show. Crazy

Wizard

That’s actually really dope to find out. Small world huh?

Jamaal Ellison

Requesting For All Mankind on Apple TV

This niggas mom had to watch her son die with balloons and a congratulations banner hanging.😭

Gampa Dave has died and been resurrected more times than goku. Also are the setting up a cyberheaven?! A Valinor, also known as the Undying Lands.

Lauren B.

Funny thing is, if you actually go back to their reaction of that scene in the first episode, they did notice it and think it was weird. But they had no context for why it was weird.
