I think it's deeper than them being scared of her. They can choose not to interact with her if they wish. Remember this is a perfect hive mind. If they found any of the survivors to be an existential threat, they could literally move their entire population to another state or country while disabling all viable means of transport. I think the species really is benevolent, its just their morals do not match ours at all.

I think everyone also forgot Carol has been drugging herself with pills AND drinking hard liquor to cope since the show started (which is why they focused on her switching the water for vodka in the episode) so she wasnt 100% there when asking for the grenade anyway; Just angry and drunk. Im the type to make the best of my situation. She is not. All her family and friends would be gone and that is awful but that is not at all the point I am making. If you understand psychology, studied nietzsche or anything in that field you would see that this is a fictional world with no god, or ultimate purpose but to serve this collective intelligence and that is what the intelligence believes. Some might believe that this is god and we are finally fulfilling our purpose by causality and to join the collective intelegence. She is faced with a Lovecraftian and inconceivable mind you cannot outsmart, outmaneuver or bend to your will unless you think killing millions by imposing death though negative emotion towards it is smart. I'm saying is that she cant do anything against it at this point in the story. You bring up Skyler like she wasn't written as a by definition antagonist towards walt (a person who actively opposes or is hostile to someone or something; an adversary). She stands as a direct obstacle towards him in many situations so watchers have a negative reaction towards her. Its nothing more deep than that. Ozark has a similar plot but people like Laura Linney's character Wendy. Why is that? Cause she supports Marty, that simple. I don't like Carol because I DON'T LIKE HER and that is how she is written. Its no slight towards the actor, if anything and the writers are as good as we have seen, she's doing a real good job.

it's so interesting that the hive claims to be a joint mind of every human but they still can't recognize when she wants to be left alone or spoken to in a certain way. i guess it's kinda obvious that it isn't as simple as "every human mind mashed into one" since the virus is obviously affecting how they think but humans are able to overcome/resist some of our biological imperatives whereas they make it sound like it's impossible for them. I think the virus/mutation does just leave people feeling an overwhelming kindness and desire to make everyone as happy as possible. With this bliss that they feel they know (or believe) that the best thing they can do for someone is bring them into the fold and share this feeling with them. Once they see these few exceptions that they can't convert the next best thing to do is to serve their needs and desires to the best of their ability while they work to create a new "life preserver" for them, since the usual one doesn't seem to work. I can almost feel an anxiety from them whenever they struggle to make Carol or the others happy. Something I found interesting was the shame they showed when they said that they killed 886,477,591 people. It's a moment where they admitted that their "biological imperative" forced them to go against their extremely pacifistic values. The fact that they can recognize when they fucked up means they truly do mean it when they say that they want everyone to be happy, even the zoo animals, even the wasp that's about to sting them, and even Carol.

I think she was actually saying she could have saved the $100k from freezing her eggs (can be anywhere between like 10-$20k per egg cycle so maybe she's done it a few times), and could have just paid for the hotel to freeze them there. Yes, I understand that becoming a master geneticist is near impossible in the worst case of 3-4 weeks. I'm more so saying that for all her talk about potentially "fixing" the current situation, she's not even trying to learn about anything related to genetics and viruses. She doesn't have anything else better to do in the 16 hours of her day; might as well put down her drink and pick up a book or read research papers related to genetics. In the best case of 2-3 months, it's at least possible to get the gist of genetic sequencing, like how it works not necessarily how to do it (this is coming from someone who has a degree in both chemistry and molecular biology). She can learn at least enough information that I could believe that if she found research notes from the scientists that originally replicated the RNA structure, she could make sense of it. I'm not saying I think she can pick up where the scientists left off, but she would at least understand.

That is true! But she did it twice. okokok so here is my argument *puts on monocle and tophat*. I believe the hive mind total was closer to 900 million so lets just round up and say a billion. Killing innocent people = bad. Carol unknowing killed 11 million innocent people true, but then had another outburst at the normie meeting knowing what could happen resulting in likely in a similar number of deaths. So totals around 22 million-ish. The Hive mind killed a billion people on its takeover. With those facts laid out and If killing innocent people = bad then both Carol and the Hive mind are bad. In my local dialect bad is synonymous with lame so that is why I used that previously. What percentage of badness and lameness lies on each party remains to be determined.

I don't think they're hiding anything from Carol. They said that the hivemind isn't connected to anything not on earth so they only have the knowledge that humans have. The combined efforts of the world's scientists still took like a year to decipher the code and replicate the Pluribus virus without really understanding what it even did. The world's intelligence level is combined and much more efficient, but still they still have to reverse engineer how the thing works so they can come up with a way to convert Carol and the others. It's like... The aliens sent you the detailed instructions for a machine ( could be for the iPhone6000 for all you know), step by step for all the parts and how to assemble it, but they still didn't tell you what it is or how it works. But now that carol knows that the hivemind will give them whatever she wants, even if it harms humanity, then maybe she even can get them to help reverse the virus's effects against their better interests. She can at least ask and I bet they'll agree to set up a lab and even do all of the work.

For some reason, it's insanely hard for directors to bring proper psychological impact, reaction, and aftermath to the screen. Having an extremely unique sci-fi concept like this and combining it with the micro-psychology of a single person in this situation, is masterful.

The audience should realize that as much of a fantasy as this may seem, from Carol's perspective this is an actual horror show. Your normal life, your relatives and family, your friends and acquaintances, everyone you watch online or on TV shows, celebrities, authority figures, everyone suddenly becomes a Chik Fil A representative just for you. So your life is over. And now you're basically all alone except for a singular hive mind. That would be horrifying to anyone. My only gripe with this show is that all the other English speakers were just chilling about it. A little ridiculous, imo, considering that humans are innately social creatures and seeing an ant hivemind mentality in your former family/neighbors would set off alarm bells in your genetic code. damn vince, idk where this show is gonna go but the there so many layers to this show already. Carol seemed to be already unhappy in life, a drinker and on anxiety meds so maybe that's why it didn't work because she cant genuinely be happy?. Everything she says to them could be also be said in the same context of a depressed person and their loved one trying to help them out of it. The fact that they will bring her the tools to her harm herself, but ultimately try to save her. & and her negative emotions directly affect them. its a social commentary on a lot of things.

I pause the video at 9:23 to say that it is funny how these guys view Carol when she "saves" the "pirate lady" from Koumba Diabaté, but in the last episode, they had a cynical response toward the Indian woman and her son. Like, they are happy that Carol got the "pirate lady" away from Koumba, but why would they care since she is a part of the hive mind, just like how they didn't care about the Indian woman's son or father she killed by accident (who, in their words, "is not her son anymore"). Carol doesn't view the Immune's family members, who are a part of the hive mind, as real people anymore (basically saying those people don't matter), but she went after her way to "protect" this one person whom she didn't even know before this event. Why save the pirate lady, since she is just a part of the hive mind that is trying to figure out how to "fix" her so she can join them? In fairness, the scene where they were in the Ice Hotel was there to show how Carol, at a baseline, is negatively-oriented. This scenario seems to just exacerbate that. Notice that, this entire time, she hasn't done stuff to help make herself feel better, she kinda just relies on others to do something that will coincidentally take her mind off it or help her feel better (or both at the same time). In this case, she is presented with a Hive Mind with different hierarchical objectives, that seems to struggle with critical thought around autonomy and self-fulfillment, that answer to her, but don't impose anything on her. This leave Carol to her miserable self.

I will say this though, after 3 episodes. The plur1bus hivemind is a product of world peace, maybe even as far as galactic peace. Where people and creatures alike really have no reason of being scared. No reason for economy, violence, doubt, protection, etc. Since all single living things have agreed upon unanimously. Everything is thought off together. In a perfect world, the plur1bus hivemind's mindset is the sane one. The alcoholic and terrified Carol's mindset is the insane one. Think about it like, at one point I have this terrible childhood where I'm abused, then I become the bully or even worse. Let's say I become a serial killer, I kill fathers all around because I hated my father for abusing me. Then plur1bus events happened, I suddenly gain million other good childhood memory, and I lost my spite. The children that have their father killed by me also shared many "justifiable" memories of abuse that happened to me and sympathize or even feel what I feel. So, everyone forgives each other. The outcome is positive. Also, huge W for earth, the environment is healing and no more pollution, light pollution especially in episode 3.
