JJ

So dramatic man

Jay

Gave me a mini heart attack lol

Raider

Had me at the first half ngl 😂

entity

This was my movie of the year for 2025

Keondodge

I see a post that says "no other choice" and me thinking is pretty bad news is dramatic?

entity

and i take this as yall needing to watch more films by Park Chan Wook

Keondodge

Nah surely those weren't their biggest rage moments

Samuel Brooks

I’m stuck at work but I can’t wait to get home so I can see y’all watch peak.

Xuda Art

Saw the title in my notifications and fully thought Roshi was about to crash out over the reaction mashup dude

Lola

That notification felt like a threat

Veeks53

AwawawawA- I just celebrated

Delinda Arts

AINT NO WAY!!! Was hoping yall would peep this even in your free time! This movie probably gonna get Oscar snubs but this probably Park Chan Wook’s masterpiece right next to The Handmaiden!

Eric

Where tf can you watch this?

Nrock23

This was so good in theaters. Of course it got no Oscar love or love from any award show

PJ Rivera

This is Park won choon’s best performance golly he put his whole soul into this one

sol jam

I thought it was going to be a poll with this title haha

Dalt

Ahh hell I got some roshi drops to catch up on this weekend!

Jay R.

How did they watch this?! It hasn’t been released on streaming 😭

J Man

Front Man joined the squid game because he had No Other Choice

Tyrone

Park Chan Wook is one of greats! Have they reacted to any other of his films?

Nikan

For me if Park Chan Wook wasn’t banned from WGA and refused to release No Other Choice at Cannes (didn’t want to premiere an unfinished film) it would’ve been an Oscar contender

Bria A.

I think they've seen Oldboy on their own time? And maybe Stoker. I really want them (or at least Roshi and Sheera) to react to (Sympathy for) Lady Vengeance.

GormleyPeach

Just saw it a few days ago! Can't wait to watch the reaction!

entity

Snowpiercer was directed by Bong Joon Ho (Parasite) not Park Chan Wook.

cœur

decision to leave duo react please im on my knees its his best film. Also highly recommend watching handmaiden in your own time (that shit is not a react film LOL)

Bria A.

Okay, I don't know if this actually has to be said, but following up on the manual thing: Do Not use the cut and suck method for snake bites lmfao. All you're doing is introducing mouth bacteria to an open wound. (Also, don't tourniquet. You're not "isolating" venom, you're just trapping and concentrating it there to eat away at tissues if it's necrotic.) You treat a snake bite like any other wound -- with basic bandaging -- take off any jewelry that might constrict if anything starts to swell, and get to an ER for antivenom as soon as possible.

Bria A.

You are correct, I was rewatching Okja while I was typing which *is* by BJH. I meant Stoker (which they might not have seen lmao)

girlygirl9983

something shouldve happened to the dad at the end LOL

Ougi

It's a fascinating ending because he gets what he wants but it's such a shallow victory that you can't even be happy about. The role isn't even confirmed to be a permanent one. The company is absolutely going to rid of him once they have no use for him especially with the rise of AI.

Ougi

This is my favorite film Live action film of the year. It's the shame the Oscars completely ignored I. From what I understand the director broke some sort of role by writing during the writers strike three years ago and he's paying for it ever since, which is a shame because he is one of the best directors of our time. I also this is a much greater commentary on the dangers of capitalism than Parasite, which I still think is a better movie, because whereas the aforementioned film focused on a lower class family doing everything they can to get to the top, this movie's family are already middle class and don't really lose that much wealth. They just don't have access to some of the material wealth that made them happy. They could have still lived off without it because are so blinded by materialism that they can't see any other way. The main character is always saying 'No Other Choice' because thrre is absolutely another way out but has to convince himself that he has no choice. That the material wealth is much more important than the lives of human being. That's what capitalism does to you. It corrodes the soul and you don't even realise it.

Delinda Arts

the subversion of expectations when the wife mentioned the superstition about the shoes in the beginning only for her to stay 10 toes down behind her man. Also, Roshi i had the same reaction when it showed that the daughter was drawing her music that whole time. shawty was tapped into the matrix frfr lol

girlygirl9983

exactly my thoughts, not only we but i dont think that job where it's only him working will make him happy for long, you know need some human connection outside of family and sitting in traffic to work

naa

someone way smarter than me needs to write a piece on how this ties to the Death of a Salesman and marx's theory of alienation

naa

Rewatching this just makes me even more upset that this wasn't nominated for a SINGLE Oscar (and F1 SOMEHOW managed to get a best picture nomination)

girlygirl9983

i think they mentioned its time/distance constraints, he can only film with them monday-thursdays, so the animes and the western stuff. K-Content they usually do when hes not around or over the weekend. I'm not 100% on this but my guess based on what they said in the past

girlygirl9983

is DECISION TO LEAVE kinda the same vibe as PAST LIVES?

girlygirl9983

youre saying he was banned from WGA? for what?

girlygirl9983

i'm in USA it's in a few major theaters here

Nikan

Worked on his TV Show during the writers strike which led to his expulsion from the guild

A film on how the pursuit to survive under capitalism will erode your soul. In the beginning of this film, Lee Byung-hun's character loves his job BECAUSE of the people he works with and the art of making paper. His wife brings up the prospect of working a different job and he vehemently opposes this because he so values the community, art, and satisfaction he derives from working in paper specifically. By the end of the film, we see that everything has been replaced by AI, and the hiring committee refuses to confirm that his position is even permanent. He performs rituals he once did at his old job that are no longer necessary, he has no community. Sure, we see him briefly cheer on the factory floor but I don't think there is any indication that he feels fulfilled at his new job. He looks old enough that he could probably only work maybe a decade or so before retiring. And in a world where people live to 100 (as the film repeatedly reminds us), I think we can infer that when he does retire, he will realise that the times he was happiest was when he worked with PEOPLE, and that killing his paper factory comrades was for naught

naa

I think you could also make a really interesting point about class consciousness and how some people fuck over others part of the same class as them to ascend economically/socially. I think this film is really interesting because Lee Byung-hun's character is motivated by this AND a desire to maintain the status quo that has led him to live a comfortable life. This is a commentary on people who abandon their values and are fine with things like AI and layoffs due to automation as long as THEY are doing OK which is ironic considering that the bad things they turn a blind eye to eventually catch up to them (in this example we are led to believe that he is not as secure in his job as he thought he would be because advances in automation could mean he is no longer needed. Really interesting film overall.

naa

Spot on!!!

Krype

This good?

Bria A.

It's funny to me, because what the subtitles are captioning as "no other choice" (particularly after the scene in the store with the guy in glasses) is just him saying a formal "I'm sorry" over and over again. Which is also not the original Korean title -- that more or less DOES translate to "no other choice" but literally means "it cannot be helped". I find translation decisions so interesting.

cœur

thats actually an interesting question because I think both films are, in their own ways, trying to be the 2020s 'in the mood for love'. They focus on different themes from that movie but for me decision to leave is a much better interpretation. 'Past lives' is more focused on the concepts of yearning/regret/moving on you see in 'in the mood for love' ; whereas 'decision to leave' is more focused on the concepts of yearning/marriage/sacrifice. But if you like 'past lives' theres a good chance you'll like 'decision to leave'. 'decision to leave' is by far his best film imo as its the culmination of all of his personal style, humour, and storytelling with his best written script imo. You get all the crazy editing and cinematography you're used to now with Park Chan Wook but, unlike something like 'no other choice', he channels his style even better in 'decision to leave' in a way that more strongly relates/integrates the images on screen with the themes/content of the story. honestly Park Chan Wook is one of the best working directors rn and imo the best korean director of all time (in front of Bong Joon Ho) so i implore you to watch all of his work. At the very least 'decision to leave', 'handmaiden', the vengance trilogy, and 'joint security area' are all things any film lover should see imo :)

LC

Did what he had to do? He didn't have to do any of that lol. Plus that job of supervising robots is going to be very short lived.

MintFran

“You gon just sit here with this tooth pain?” He just like me fr

Youssef Loubnan

the confrontation scene with 3 of them and music fighting for the gun was peak comedy, and it reminded me of PARASITE of when everyone was fighting for the phone in the living room. One with a gun and the other with a phone, but both were life or death situations . CINEMA

DIOR

Did not expect to see this banger

DIOR

*cries in unaddressed cavity in molar*

J Man

Roshi need to do Crash Landing on You next for KDramas, right? Starring the mom!?! Crash Landing is considered one of the best KDramas on Netflix and would get good views

Tired_Artist04

This is the type of movie that legitimately got better for me after thinking about the themes this was trying to convey. Haven’t had a movie do that to me for a long time

earthphoenix7068

Sheeras right Roshi they got cameras even in the trenches

Sid

OMG!! one battle after another next maybe?

James Small

Nah, I think he's actually going to be good in terms of employment. You can reduce workers using automation, but there needs to be at least one knowledgeable human in the loop if things go wrong. I think the bigger issue is it showed how going through all that shit made him grimy, and he lost all of his love for his fellow workers who he originally wanted to unionize with.

B23

fantastic film!

Sare

I know this is a satire and a black comedy, but I can't help but feel like this was a "feel good movie". Even though he was a rich business man, his main goal was to provide for his family, his wife stood by him, he got closer to his step son and got his daughter to come out of her shell. I know the ending implies that the happy ending is fleeting due to AI, but I don't know, maybe the fact that we can relate to a man willing to kill just to keep the lights on is the point they are trying to make.

monae

he signed a petition against israel’s massacres in gaza which didn’t sit well either

L.A. Kalman

I’m actually beyond tired of these lazy anti-capitalist themes that people eat up like slop and pretend are deep and intellectual. It’s been one of the most prominent concepts in media for like two decades and people always pretend to be mindblown over the exact same commentary repeated ad nauseum. This was a fine movie but nothing about it was particularly original or deserving of an Oscar. Honestly at least thirty minutes needed trimming. It’s also just baffling that people pretend that greed/materialism is some unique thing to capitalism. Like before the 1700s everything was a peaceful utopia and no one was materialistic, but then capitalism came around and corrupted our pure souls. It shows you’ve been ideologically conditioned to think the definition of capitalism is ‘human greed’ and that somehow leads to this idea that if we eliminate capitalism we eliminate human greed. The only societies that haven’t had an elite class consolidate power and resources were those too poor and isolated to actually generate excess wealth. Hell, animals have hoarded and killed one another for material gain since before humans even existed as a species.

Bria A.

Yes. I'm aware. Hence, "following up on the manual thing" 😭

Rina

Does anyone know how they got to watch the movie? I know it's in theaters, but it's only available for pre-order online.

Rina

Lollll! Noted

Inconspicuous Pug

Spoilers for the ending: I like that he got away with it, but the minute I saw the warm hug in the beginning I knew he ain’t never getting that back. Condemned to be alone surrounded by loud machinery noise instead of his daughter’s music.

Jamaal Ellison

Mrs Kang shows up in a project and it instantly gets better for me. She is an elite actress she is so amazing. And I was actually kind of saying that, I hadn't seen her any recent k dramas that we're reacting to, so I was wondering when she was going to turn up She's like a bad penny. She never goes away forever.

Chief Doodle

The doorbell to the store pissing Roshi off made me laugh

Jamaal Ellison

The soundtrack and score of this movie is amazing.

1. YAAAAY finally watching this movie 2. oooh TAPPING! i do that in therapy too. create a mantra and then tap on specific body parts. its sooooo calming for when you get overwhelmed rather its anxiety or a specific emotion like anger or sadness. love that they put this in!

rickie woodson

he doesnt have a son. that young man sneaking out of the house is the dude she is cheating on her husband with. thats why he snuck out and why he called her maam: she likes em young

rickie woodson

this is clown shoes. i see why it got bad reviews. WOW. im enjoying it but the lead is making so many messy decisions and half plans. like if you dont have the gumption then dont do it. also, you have a military gun, you should be used to this lol. why put the body in your car instead of tossing it over the railing into the ocean? i so thought he was going to make it look like a suicide by putting the body in the driver's seat and putting the car in drive and let it go over the ledge. taking it home?????????????????? INSANE

General Crisp

Roshi thinking this movie ended with no moral lesson is peak capitalism brainrot
