Also perhaps harkening back to season 1 when richter fought laufen, and he told them about defensive magic’s capability against physical attack, we see it again when this demon attacks Fern who’s already probably using a high defense spell because she focuses it in such a small area where the sword strikes

That prophecy pushed him to exterminate the elves, setting the stage for Flamme to meet Frieren and fulfill that prophecy.

Apparently they revealed the production team actually had puppeteers to make the puppets and act out that scene and the animators used it as reference. Pretty cool

Both Hero of The South and Schlacht could see the future so both would've seen the outcome of their fight and thought it was the best outcome, Also Schlacht would've seen the Demon King get beat by Himmel - I wonder if he told the Demon King or not? He definitely told him about Frieren as he ordered all the elves killed 1,000 years before their party defeats him,

I don't think that Hero is all that special. Being able to see the future is a cheat code and it seems like the first time he ran into someone who could cancel out his power he got clapped, so I don't think he was that good.

and because he could get in the way he was seen as the biggest threat that is why they jumped him. but he knew even if did not kill any other sage as long he got rid of schlacht himmel and his party would be able to grow strong enough to beat the demon king and it would bring peace. he acted the way he did to make sure everyone's attention was on him including the demon hate. while there are still demons it a lot safer and easier for humans to grow and maybe frieren's dream of demon genocide will come true.

If Himmel is the prequel series we need, the Hero of the South OVA vs Schlacht the Omniscient also has to. Reminds me of Hudson v Xanatos in Gargoyles; giving our main character the chance to finish it.

Thinking about it since the Sage could see the future as well they knew they were going to die, but tried to avoid it by coming with all 7 of the Sages to try and change the future and still died.

Loved the Hero of the South as well, and I'd totally love a spinoff story about his time leading up to his eventual end. One of the things I wrote down when I first watched this ep was that it kind of in a way reminded me of Orb - On the Movements of the Earth. I'll try not to say too much in case others want to read/watch, but it is in a similar vein of "behind the hero whose name goes down in the annals of history, there are others whose accomplishments helped to pave their way"

The Demon Sage who could see the future was probably unstoppable by anyone other than the Hero of the South, who can also see the future. Himmel and the gang wouldn’t be able to defeat someone who knows everything ahead of time. So HotS’s sacrifice was 100% necessary to get rid of Schlacht. So Frieren saying his fame is justified is indeed correct.

The Hero of the South was literally the only person capable of defeating Schlacht. Since they both had future sight, they could create a situation where they could ensure a hit on the other that would kill them, forcing a stalemate. Without the HotS, Himmel and the party would have had zero chance against someone like that.

Not for the simple funsies. Her first fight against that demon with blood magic he was able to remotely activate his magic from the bloodstains he left behind on their clothes. A spell that instantly cleans clothes will prevent that from ever happening again.

Calling something dumb because you haven't spent enough time to think deeply of justifications yet and can't find a sound reason, doesn't actually make it dumb. I'm sure there are many justifications one can think of if one spends some time to reflect on it. For instance, Fern explained during the mage exam that Frieren only allows Fern to use basic offence and defensive magic in combat, while she is allowed to use many different spells outside of combat. That could be one reason. If they really neeeded stronger spells the party could easily ask for them as rewards for future missions, but Frieren doesn't deem it necessary and if I was Fern I would trust her judgement. Besides, the elf was rude to Frieren and I'm sure Fern was happy to pick something that Frieren would appreciate.
