I dont like how this episode was adapted... In the Manga Megumi was negotiating to have them use their points to help him add the "transfer points rule" and was holding back because of it. He knew Yuji understood the assignment, but he couldnt waste the chance because he wasnt sure of Yujis status. But as soon as he saw Yuji had got the job done, he smiled and THEN popped off because Yuji got the job done so now he can just earn the points. He didnt need these guys anymore. Waaay colder, way cooler, makes way more sense. In the episode he just immediately gets into the fight because the animators wanted to condense several chapters into single episode. Shame.

sukuna used his domain in season 1 (and yes, Sukuna is still considered a sorcerer despite being inside of yuij), but also tengen explains that DE were a lot more common back in the day cause they didn't have a instant kill built in so depending on how long ago reggie lived, then he shouldn't really be that suprised unless he is aware that DE have become more rare thanks to the instant kill so that's why he was shocked.

i think them changing the line from "a jujutsu sorcerer is nothing but a con artist" to "someone who tells lies" gashes it down HEAVILY for me. Because a con artist baits and switches, uses misdirection, finds loop holes, makes binding vows, has ZERO remorse for not fighting fair, does whatever it takes to win. Its easier to imagine a battle between two con artists. Like Yuji pretending he couldnt use his left arm against choso only for choso to have secretly hardened his body under his shirt (where it was away from the water and out of sight) to nullify yujis surprise punch. It really emphasizes that Jujutsu battles are contests of wits and "how low are you willing to go", not just abject force. It also obviouosly applies to later on fights. They also cut out the line about "we have no big moves so its a battle of attrition" repeating when the trucks came flying through towards megumi and him having a pissed off reaction. They left a decent amount of meat on the bone for this episode uinforunately

But of course Crunchyroll butchered the translation to make it sound more "street" and "gangsta", even tho their translation makes absolutely zero sense in that context. Nothing new, I guess.

The original line is 「呪術師は 嘘ついてなんぼよね」, which can be roughly translated as "“A sorcerer is only worth something if he can lie, right?” But because of the way respective languages work, there is always at least a dozen ways you could translate a Japanese sentence into English without losing its core meaning. But in this case, the original sentence itself hasn't been changed in the anime adaptation.

it's not that crunchyroll / mappa is going out of their way to "change" the line, translations simply differ from person to person. crunchyroll's translation for s2 for example was 100% accurate and loyal to the original japanese text. reggie specifically calls sorcerers "liars" / "people who lie" in the original manga; i prefer the con artist translation too, but it was a creative liberty.

Actually I disagree that it was an attempt to sound more “street”, whatever that means. The expression “kuchisaki bakari” is very much often used to contrast someone being all talk and no action.
