Nah you guys missed it! Genau was HIM! Even with a hole in his stomach like Stark, he dragged himself till his knuckles and fingers were raw and bloody, took off his jacket and wrapped it around Stark to stop his bleeding! You can see the difference in clothing before and after while Fern is freaking out/ Genau stands after Methode finishes healing him. Genau is only in his undershirt, and Stark's jacket has been taken off and Genau's jacket is wrappped around him. And even THEN Genau pointed his fingers at Stark and said heal him first. Remember, Serie is a huge tsundere/ liar with her emotions. She said that Genau is awful and has no kindness, and to stay that way. She means that Genau is actually a great guy and should always be that way. Genau and her just both refuse to beleive it/ say it out loud.

What a fucken episode holy shit, I love to see them use a mix of 2D,3D, and rotoscoping with the fight scenes. It may not mean much to others but I really appreciate how fluid the characters move. Like the scene with the demons sword fighter. When she retreated, advanced, even her slow mo walk was such a treat. Also Methode was a favorite character since season one and I was really hoping to see more of her. Though I’m glad they gave her some background info because the demon had said that she may come from a clan that are insane demon hunters which could have negatively affected her mental state. Maybe that’s why she has a fixation for cute things but won’t know until we get more or I read the manga. Also anyone know the health status of the author. Heard they were sick and may be the reason why we are going to be lacking more frieren content.

Been keeping up with the manga for this series so that once the season ends I can start reading Something I found interesting is just how many original scene this anime has. That whole scene of Genau clawing his way to stark so he can try and tend to his injuries….anime original. Not in the manga. Kinda crazy how such a cheracter rich scene wasn’t present in the source material yet it makes so much sense with what Genau has experienced This is how you elevate a story when you adapt it to a new medium

Something that yall missed is that when Genau pointed at stark while they were dying, it showed that Genau used his robes as a large tourniquet for his whole abdomen, slowing his death just enough for Methode to get there and save him

I like the subtle details in this episode. Genau's hands are bloody and bruised cuz he couldn't use his fucked up torso to help move. He had to drag his whole body over to stark by his knuckles. He then wrapped his coat around stark to help stop the bleeding. The shot was pretty quick so it was easy to miss.

Stark's reflection in his axe as he swoops in to grab it; Fern's Zoltrakk extending from the moon's reflection on the lake; Genau's knuckles all fucked up and Methode's fluid movements. I gotta say though...these niggas got donut holes in them but their clothes still look perfectly fine the next day. Frieren must have a stitching spell or something

Fun fact: That move Stark used to rip Revolte apart, Cleaving Light, is the same one that the Copy-cat demon Linie tried to use on Stark when she was copying Eisen's style. Unfortunately she couldn't swing axes hard enough to cause nuclear fission like Stark can which is why he ate it with minimal blood-loss.

It normally takes someone who has the Goddess Magic to heal serious wounds. The only one who could have saved them both was Methode, so the goal was surviving until then. She's actually OP since she's able to do both combat and advanced healing.

Every episode of this show delivers. The animation and music are top notch, the choreography is well thought out, the story telling is sublime. Then on top of all that you have the following- 1)Good Character writing. You see Serie and Genau- the 2 fakest idgafers in the series trying to lie to each other: -"Kind mages always die young" she says in a bored monotonous voice (as she carefully adorns said kind mage's body with flowers one by one- flowers likely created from the spell she herself proclaims is useless) -"As you wish" he says agreeing with Serie to remain unkind (guy who can't stop thinking of his partner, is going to tell his healer to prioritize the warrior he proclaims is an idiot, who wraps his jacket around said idiot after dragging his bisected body by his knuckles) 2)No asspulls- In a lot of anime some of the most hype moments are when we see some character pull out an unknown power or unlock a secret skill. Yet Frieren manages to create hype where most of the wins feel earned, as characters utilize skills we've seen them hone and progress through the series. -Fern- Huge AoE saturation attack? Yep, that tracks we've seen her use that in the first-class mage exam multiple times. Hitting a long-distance snipe from outside of mana detection range? Yep- the very first time we see Fern cast magic she is practicing a precision shot across a ravine. Her being nearly undetectable when she is suppressing her mana? Yep- once again Fern's specialty. -Stark- The attacks he used we have all seen him utilize in the series. The downward slash that broke Revolte's sword? Yep- he was practicing that meticulously and one-shot both the dragon and Linnie with it. The squatting attack that took out Revolte? Why that's Eisen's attack that Linnie tried to use against Stark. She doesnt succeed with it since she doesnt have the power to back it up but we know Stark does. Stark's freakish durability, stamina and quick recovery? Once again- established character traits. -Methode- the character with the most "asspull" like feats- except they make sense for her. She is the mage with the most variance in spell types that we've seen outside of maybe Frieren so the fact that she has abilities we haven't seen isn't an asspull- its consistent with her character. Even the fact that she can dispel the fog is within character and also enhances a previous moment. Why was she carrying a book with "useless" magic that she could give to Frieren? She didn't know she was going to meet with Frieren so is this just lazy writing? Nope- turns out Methode also enjoys learning esoteric magic which once again is fully supported by her established character as a versatile mage. 3)Storytelling without dialogue- Why was the male demon not looking to the sky when Fern disappeared? Well Fern deliberately avoided flying throughout their whole engagement until the moment he couldn't detect her. (This also beautifully ties in with the established worldbuilding that humans learning to fly was fairly recent and the fact that demons don't readily share information with each other) Meanwhile the female demon did look to the sky to determine Fern's location because Methode was flying throughout their confrontation AND she saw the trajectory of Fern's first missed shot. Why couldn't the female demon avoid or deflect Fern's shot when we saw her do that with Methode's? Well, we see that she only avoids and deflects attacks that she can see coming. We also see her get damaged by an attack she didn't anticipate when Methode struck from a blindspot using a visual illusion. Fern can't create illusions, but she can use the moonlight to mask her attack until it's too late. 10/10- Perfect episode.

all this (very well put, best tedtalk ive attended) and to add my thought when Methode said "i cut loose a little". we've never really seen her fight. during the exam we saw a fern clone attack her and then it cuts away and when we cut back the fight is over. prediction: shes from a clan that trains to specifically hunt demons and she magically is similar to frerien what if the clan was started by frerien or flama at some point 1k years ago
