Unfortunately, it looks like you guys are using the wrong subtitles. These are the closed captions for the English dub. The translations are wrong in places, and it leaves out an entire section without a translation. When they are about to hang the people that were shouting in French, that should have been translated. If you're watching on Netflix, make sure you're using the regular English subtitles, not English (CC).

Disclaimer that I know nothing about the show but I always find it funny when people get worked up about certain appearance things that don't necessarily have to have relevance. Some actors are disabled, some have birthmarks, and even if this is a character-specific trait and the actor himself has two functional eyes... sometimes it's just a factor that isn't related to the show's narrative haha

Yeah. Watch that scene again with the regular English subtitles and you'll see what got missed. I've also rewatched this with so many reactors, I could tell something wasn't right with the subtitles early on. I just hope they see this or somebody let's them know.

On god LOL. Cementation is the most commonly used method to dispose of nuclear waste. It’s exactly what they did to the “Elephant’s Foot” after the Chernobyl nuclear accident. It’s ok to just not know something instead of thinking you do.

from my very limited understanding: concrete can be used to contain radioactive waste, but with multiple layers of failsafes (for example, the multilayered dome they built around chernobyl’s reactors used concrete among other things, but even that degraded and they had to build a new containment structure over it. AND even with chernobyl now contained, no one is allowed to live in the vicinity. so yeah, pouring concrete over these barrels and calling it a day as if people aren’t still living in winden is fuckin bonkers.)

Just so you guys know.... yes cement IS the way they cover nuclear waste. Really. Essentially think of radiation as little guns firing bullets. If those bullets hit one of your molecules, it throws them off, and they start to decay (becomes radioactive). But it's like shotting an apple in space. However, the more radioactive something it is, the more bullets, until it's firing billions of bullets... so ones bound to hit. Once your molecule is radioactive from being hit, now it's also firing bullets. In a domino effect. They cover things with cement because it's so dense. It'll take quite a while to get through it, but it is not forever. Like the chernobyl accident, and all the nuclear waste, look up nuclear cement cover. Not that Sheera is wrong... we just don't have a better idea so we just keep patching it and putting more concrete on it as it leaks...

They watch a lot of shows in between dark reactions, so sometimes they might miss or not remember some details that would lead to things not making sense in the end. I don't think there's anything wrong with pointing out stuff (I've literally just now realised who that is and it's my third rewatch lol) but rest assured that i'll never spoil the fun of this show to anyone!

The light fixtures are a good time-keeper. Candles in 1920s, Gas lights in 1950s, Bulbs in the 80s and 2019, and the bright white light in the future. One of the things I like about this show, and this brand of Scifi generally, is that there's a lot to keep track of, but they never try to trick you. Clues like cars, lights and clothes aren't used to mislead.

You can’t seemingly change events. As they say, everything happens how it always happens. We don’t know if it’s Jonas’s second chance at saving his mom from shooting herself or something. Those were just the normal order of events taking place. It’s an endless, closed loop. It’s trippy but you get used to it😭 Thats why Ulrich, Jonas, and everyone else who time travels constantly fail to ‘change things’. But Claudia believes there’s a way.

Dont confirm or deny please but I wanna throw a hail mary. Jonas is Adam based on mere whims. Familiarity with who and how bartosh "is" at that time period and simply thematically the circle closing: fighting his whole life coming to the conclusion its a selffeeding cycle so he gives up on saving everything, instead just cut out the cancer as a whole. Alternatively Bartosch is Adam himself.

I'm so happy that I clocked that the mute/nonverbal woman was the little girl (present timeline) before them and before the show revealed it. To this point, there has only been one character like that in this show. The detective and his sister being overseer of the barrels is another wild thing. Same with the message dead-drops on the unused traintracks. The fuck is going on??!? Also Jonas talking to his mom in the present timeline has burn marks around his neck. Is he going to be strung up and hung at some point?

Man this show is a masterpiece, literally by the end they leave no stone untossed EVERYTHING and every corner of the story gets explained by the end. Also that's how nuclear waste gets dealt with, those nuclear barrels you see in cartoons and movies are full of cement to prevent radiation leak

To keep it simple and short yes they are scientists and it's common to use cement to seal low and mid levels of radioactive waste. They cover it with cement because it's highly effective in preventing leakage by 'immobilizing' radioisotopes (Caesium-137). Yes it expands when it solidifies however in the scene where they pour cement over it, you can presume it already has been solidified because of the timespan between the moment you saw them in 'liquid' form in season 1 and now since it's been like, correct me if i'm wrong, half a year ago? So its melting point is about 28°C/82°F and will solidify within minutes when below so in all that time they were in those barels outside in the truck the caesium will most definitely be solidified. Then you store it somewhere cool to prevent any cement swelling/cracking and seal that shit up like it's the nine tails.

FYI please boost this so they see it appears you may be watching English [CC] subtitles when it should just be English the CC is based on the English dub and they take quite a few liberties with the dialogue. (like them instead of giving you subtitles for the french men being hung instead the English [CC] just has speaking French).

It's been 2 months since the comment and they're done with the show, but I can't believe no one called out this massive spoiler. I can't scroll by this without ranting. Please don't do comments like this anywhere else. It's talking like we're at end of 3x7 in episode 2x1. There's plenty scenarios where changing events is something that is possible at some point through billions of possible variables. Having already watched the show you can delete any variable that doesn't happen in the show but it would be extremely illogical to do as a first time viewer. "But XYZ clearly confirms the rules are like this and that" Absolutely not, and there's a reason they harp on what rules the show uses through FUTURE episodes. It's because it's not ever a given in a Sci-fi show. Since this is a science fiction show the science is obviously made-up and fake from the instant the show began, they could have thrown in ANY variable from left field at ANY point of the show. What rules they go with throughout the show is absolutely NOT confirmed in episode 2x1, in no way shape or form is it possible to know WHEN or IF a show changes its rules throughout the run BEFORE HAVING WATCHED IT. Yet, you're just here spoiling a HUGE part of the mystery not even half way through. I think that's absolutely wild behavior. I have only seen their reaction up to 2x1, but I hope they didn't read comments like this and take them in as it would destroy the "twist" in some coming "twists".
