I can't stress enough how high my expectations for this arc are. I went and read the webnovel after season 2 and Re:zero was written exponentially better than I had anticapated as well as the plot and character developments throughout. I'm hyped.

OD is life energy. Whenever "Anastasia" -> echidna uses magic she is shortening her life span. Subaru could tell that wasn't Anastasia because her accent and mannerisms were off. Anastasia has Japan's Kansai accent I believe so he noticed a difference right away she also talks like Echidna the witch as of now. Of course this is all especially noticable for people who speak Japanese.

LETS GO REZERO IS BACK! THE ARC 4 READERS KNOW WHAT’S UP! THE WATCHERS ARE GOING TO BLOWN AWAY THOUGH If the gang wants to keep up, Sheera better unlock her rinnesheeragan, Roshi better lock in, and Lupa should enhance those glasses (any maybe grab some carrots I guess). They ain’t ready for the mind breaking that is this season I think this episode did a good job in setting things up, sad that it wasn’t an hour long, but a least we’re getting more episodes though! If I recall correctly from the story’s explanation earlier I think, Od = re:zero’s version of a soul but more complicated and complex and is kinda the nexus of one’s magic. (Someone can correct me on this though) It interesting that they brought up the sage in this episode because back in season 2 when Subaru was with them witches in their version of windows Xp they also referred to him as a sage candidate. It was funny to see the name Echidna cause confusion, to the extent where Subaru assumed she was the revived Echidna. Especially since the witch Echidna has a strong connection to the creation of some artificial spirits and, according to the omitted content from season 2, she has already been revived and is currently living. It’s cool to see that we’re bringing back opps from season 2, being Meli (that purple haired girl), to help the “fix my friends” agenda The parallel between Frederica and Garfiel and Fred and Rafiel was great to see on screen, especially given that both pairs have an older brother and sister. Also, Subaru is not beating them allegations It seems like this season might have a lot of call backs to information from season 2.

It's interesting that previous season all of the each of the 3 archbishops of gluttony embody the 3 expressions of gluttony: gourmand, foul feeding and satiation. I don't think it's a coincidence that we have 3 chars of the main cast having been devoured each in a different way. Rem - memories and identity - devoured by Louis - satiation Crusch - memories - devoured by Lye - gourmand Julius - identity - devoured by Roy - foul feeding I understand that Lye was the one who engaged Crusch and Rem, but there is a thematic parallel here and we still don't know yet how this gluttony factor is shared between them. We only know about lunar and solar eclipse which unfortunately was awfully translated previous season, so the trio might still be confused/unaware of how Lye/Roy were able to use different techniques and Louis being able to fully transform whilst carving Otto's legs meat. Subaru took notice of Anastasia not being herself since minute 3:10, given his slight reaction there. Seems Echidna copy and pasted her conciousness into possibly more objects/places or w/e given right now we had the tea party echidna and the coat echidna. Given how each of them behave/talk and how Echidna's real body looked older at the sanctuary, she prolly did the copy and paste magic at different times during her lifetime, with each time her personality changing, probably peaking into a more "chill" version at the end when she faced Hector. Could this be the case?

Garfiel got me crying like hell. Sadly no, his mother doesnt know that he's her son still. She was just indulging him because he had a sudden episode right infront of her and wanted to comfort him by pretending to be his mom. She said later that she'll be there for him to lean on and pretend to be a mother for him. I wish he did say something but it doesn't matter at this point. Their relationship now is fine as is. I do feel like she does have an instinct toward him which is why she did what she did without complicating it. So good on her being a good person.

I just checked the chapter that this Garfiel and his mom thing happened in. She still doesn't know he's her son she was just doing what she said in the episode being someone for him to lean on in his mother's stead. I had to check the literal chapter to see if the issue was actually resolved yet or not.

I'm guessing it's cause she's a kid. Subaru seems to truly love and cherish children and killing him and his friends a few times certainly isn't enough to sway that (Garfiel the butcher of Arlam villagers is like only a year or two older than her and we know how they ended up)

@amvdere don't blame her for that too much, its heavily implied in the novel that the 'Mom' she mentioned is actually Capella because Roy also refers to her as Mama after she turned him into goop and back again and he shows more loyalty to her than to the other 2 Gluttony Archbishop siblings

For anyone curious there's a side story showing what Garfiel and Otto do in the city while the rest of the camp is making their way to to the watchtower, Kiritaka asks Garfiel, Lilianna, and a new character named Ezzo from Felt's camp to check on the remains of Typhon underground in the heart of the city to make sure the cult didn't get to it. There's a bunch of weird autonomous guardians defending it and when they finally reach it nobody but Lilianna is able to move because Typhon's body even 400 years after her death is still affected by her judgement authority and they're being crushed to the ground by the weight of their 'sins'. Knowing this might help you understand just how dangerous the Auguria Dunes are where Satella/WoE is still sealed.
