Hoshin doesnt have any connection to Anastasia. She just took up his last name out of respect as she said in season 3 in episode 1. Also your giving out literally future spoilers about Echidna, thats revealed in arc 9 This season is arc 6. Also, Subaru in the shadow garden cannot talk to Satella as it was said in that scene in the novels. Also, " Now although flugel is from 400 years ago in the rezero world, he actually was picked up in earth to modern times." This is just plain false, nobody knows anything about him. So flugel was the guy who Planted the tree that brought down the white whale and also Betelgeuse yells I’m sorry flugel right before he takes on the sloth witch factor in effort to help fortuna against pandora and regulus in Emilia’s s2 flashback trial. Also I wanted to mention there is a still of the tower in the ED that has the original heroes party from 400 years ago definitely an interesting group (some of them I’m not 100% certain on) but definitely worth looking at

Geuse said it in the flashback right when he used the sloth witch factor. And like I said real REZERO fans rewatch. Its the kind of show not only that deserves it but rewards it heavily. You might be a casual fan but real ones rewatch because these little details are super fascinating and interesting to catch.

I’m pretty sure the smell Shaula was talking about was the Witch’s scent that people can always smell on Subaru after he comes back from Return by Death. So that lends itself to the theory that Flugel is “a” Subaru, but maybe a different one from the one we know. Me and my friend’s theory is that he comes from one of the failed timelines they explored in the Sanctuary trial.

Youre definitely on to something. Its interesting how much of re zero is tied to astrology and earth mythology. Pleiades is also the name of a star cluster and is also called the "seven sisters" (there are seven witches) and the Japanese name for this is Subaru. Also, the witches are either named after earth mythology or constellations. Both betelgeuse and regulus are also the names of stars. With how much "that is only something someone from earth would know" there is, there is definitely something to flugel being either subaru or from earth

What if Satella dated Flugel, so maybe that's why Satella "loves" Subaru so much and gave him Return by Death. And also, if you noticed, Shaula wears the exact same color pattern as Subaru: black and orange. AND the tree Subaru was referring to was the one that he used to finally kill the Whale of Gluttony.

Just to point out, Shaula refers to her ponytail as "scorpion tail" and her needle attack as "Hell's Snipe". Those are english terms that no one in Lugunica should really know and they sound alot like the kind of flashy attack names you'd hear in typical shonen anime. At the same time, Subaru was introduced as a shut-in NEET at the beginning of the series. So if Flugel is Subaru, this thing pointed above kinda reinforces it abit?

Theres a bunch of facets to the subaru is flugel theory, first is the theory that Flugel is future Subaru transported to the past who built the watchtower and formed its tests and planted the tree in the specific spot it would need to be to help kill the White Whale in the past/future. The second is that Flugel is someone else who had the envy witch factor and can return by death just like Subaru given what the shadow garden scene in the opening implies and why Shaula only recognizes him by the miasma stench and not his appearance. The third theory is that just like with Echidna appearing in several different forms and bodies that Flugel is an alternate form of Subaru. Each one seems equally plausible at this point in the story and I think it'll be fun to continue revisiting this question throughout the season as we learn more about the Watchtower.

Re honestly feels like a game world. Every generation has fixed roles like the Hero, which is Reinhard van Astrea, the Witch, which is Satella, and the Sage. Flügel was probably the previous “player” of the Re world, and now Subaru Natsuki is the new one. That would explain why the world centres around him he’s the current player and basically the Sage now. It also explains why Emilia looks exactly like Satella but isn’t her. It’s like the world reused the same template to create a new love interest for the next cycle. Echidna having an Authority that lets her see the past, present, and future makes it feel like everything is scripted. Authorities are basically admin abilities that let certain people bypass the normal rules of the world. The world of Rezero is literally a Square Map its not circular like the real world and Return by death is eerily similar to how you respawn in games.

Adding on the time traveling theory, satella does looks a lot like Emilia, and in the ending animation you can see 6 people at the watchtower, flugel party and satella is there too. So I do believe that somehow Subaru and Emilia have to travel back in time to 400 years ago for some reason, or maybe they are the reincarnation version of those two people (these is less likely, because satella isn't dead, she is just sealed)

More like Flugel himself set up the world so that Subaru can reach the correct path where he might failed at his time, or he got alternate ending that cant be reversed, so need someone else. He planted the tree to kill the whale, probably even set up the 7sins, by stars name and its witch. just so Subaru/him can reach that future.
