I saw these 2 comments on x, and I feel this pretty much sums up of my feelings on the series as a whole. The Boys Season 5 is very likely heading to a Game of Thrones level finale and its making me genuinely sad. This season has absolutely struggled with pacing, its struggled with writing and has frankly entirely failed to feel like a final season. Episode 7 is good in a vacuum, it has plenty of interesting character moments and drama but as THE penultimate episode of the entire series? There is simply no logical way to wrap The Boys up in a satisfying manner in one more episode, this has 0 feeling of finality in any sense so far and the constant cowardly writing that refuses to push the envelope properly continues to be a huge issue. The marketing, looking back with the destroyed Vought tower feels so misleading and it makes me so sad. Its sad to see one of my favorite shows that had a genuinely fantastic run with Seasons 1-3 completely fumble and stumble towards its end. Maybe they aim to stretch this plot out over The Boys Mexico spin off, otherwise, I cannot possibly see this show wrap up in a satisfying way next week. Whatever they do, its going to feel rushed and unearned. I don't think it was hard to make a Season 3 level season with multiple major fight scenes, and character arcs wrapping up, especially with how Ryan has effectively been written out of the show despite being the most important aspect of S1-3. I am just disappointed.

Even if the last episode is amazing, it won't make up for the past two seasons of the show. When you write and direct the final season of a show you are supposed to GO OFF. It should be as good if not better than the first season, which for most shows it usually seen as the best. But, for some reason the overheads are more concerned with A GODDAMN VOUGHT RISING PREQUEL!!!! It genuinely baffles me how there are people who say with a straight face that The Boys is better than Invincible. And on top of all this Gen V season 2 was mid as well, but 1 was good.

I think Roshi puts it best. Each episode is actually very good as an individual episode. Or at the very least enjoyable for the boys standards. It’s just that the episodes don’t connect well or combine well as a whole for a final season of a show. Each episode would be pretty great if they were all individually placed somewhere in season 3 or 4. With the exception of the first episode with A-train’s death that I thought was very well paced and done well

IMO, SB should have died to the virus. V1 plotline shouldn’t have been introduced (just a mcguffin setup for Vought Rising). Firecracker’s death was a great scene but the rest of the episode was mid. This episode is okay but certainly not on the level of a penultimate episode for the series finale. Another fantastic *moment* with Frenchie’s death but that was just a moment. Deep should have been dead a while ago. Next to zero mention or plot importance for Marie, Emma, Jordan, Cate, Sam, Stan Edgar, Ryan or Zoe. At this point, I’m not gonna expect anything. Just gots to see it through.

Also agree on the enemy supes, the deaths, it's really progression as a whole. They've been more so working on characterization than like- the actual finality to all of these stories and characters.

Even if they knew, I don't know why they wouldn't take the opportunity to wrap it up or have the Gen V characters interact with the main cast more. It's clear they put a lot of effort/money into Gen V to make it as good as The Boys and now it just feels like we wasted a bunch of time. I will say I like how the deep starts the series having basically no loyalty to anybody and lies to people except the animals of the sea. Yet now he’s in a position where he’s outcast by the animals of the sea due to them blaming him even though it was Noir and he killed Black Noir and can’t really save people in water. So it will likely crack, shatter, or test his image of loyalty to Homelander and humanity (beings of the land) leaving him likely outcasted by both the sea and land. Interesting how the first noir died from hiding the truth from homelander, and the second one died from telling the truth to the deep. The first one didn’t talk enough and the second one talked too much. Also another thing I had pointed out was that apparently the seven hasn’t actually had seven members since before translucent died.

If Marie doesn’t comeback and do something significant in terms of helping defeat homelander than that will be one of the biggest fumbles of this season and just a big middle finger to the Gen V series which just got cancelled. I also have zero interest in the Soldier Boy spinoff. Sister Sage’s character was not handled well. I think the issues they have, and I personally share, is that this doesn’t feel climactic enough to be the final season, especially after all the Gen V S2 set up. The episodes themselves are decent individually, but waiting week to week for such quality after being promised something more grandiose like you said in the marketing, just feels disappointing. For example, ik the weird fetishes has always been a staple for this series, but come tf on man, we’re really dedicating time on the 2ND TO LAST episode to ppl sniffing each other’s ass! The point is…I don’t believe they’re saying it’s bad, just unfulfilling compared to earlier seasons.

As a comic reader, I hate this season, and it is not even because the comic version is good. No, the comic ending is bad, but they somehow made this worse than it. It genuinely doesn't feel like a final season at all. And don't let me start on the decision of canceling Gen V season 2 and wasting several eps hinting towards the new Vought Rising series. an interesting look on things in this season is how stuff happens in real life. usually in a story like this, you'd expect stuff like soldier boy trying to kill homelander and somehow failing to show just how great homelander is in terms of power, boosting his danger levels to the moon. you'd expect the deep to try and join the boys in fighting homelander as a redemption arc. you'd expect annie to let loose for once and give marie the ok to go wild with her powers for the sake of the greater good. you'd expect ryan to stand up for whats right and try and beat his father. but instead, reality is sometimes a lot different than what is told in stories. soldier boy survived because he's the only anchor to homelander being such a big baby. the deep is afraid of sea life now because he's a coward. annie is still a goody-two-shoes because she's a peoples pleaser from childhood. ryan is a little kid and is rightfully afraid for his life. this is how real people are. its not necessarily bad writing, its just realistic writing if anything. kimiko acting was amazing, and sad to see frenchie gone, but he went like a fkn champ, and if it had to happen, im glad it happened with a fight.

The final season had problems for sure, but I thought overall it made sense and ended how it needed to end for the type of story it was trying to tell. The Deep outliving A-Train, both Noirs, Firecracker and Frenchie is really something. Like I don't get it. Too much time wasted with filler and the retconning to shoehorn in the prequel(which I'll be skipping). This last season’s disappointing. I thought The Boys and the Gen V crew were gonna combine and work together to stop Homelander but na Marie and them were offscreen the whole time until this episode. I like Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy but they spent wayyy too much screen time setting up his prequel show and finding the V1 when they could’ve used the time to show us how The Boys and the Gen V crew worked together. The virus better come back into play somehow or else that was a big waste of time too.

Every episode should move the plot forward and gear us up for the finale to go out with a bang. Every season leading up to this (GenV included) has had excellent parallels to both things going on in the entertainment industry, and politically. This season just feels like it's become what it's been criticizing: a preview for the next pile of garbage that I won't be watching because they fumbled this one.
