Nah thats a Lupa show. Lupa talked about how he loves old-timey Naval/pirate aesthetics and ships. And Black Sails is like one of the only high-quality productions that features that stuff outside of some movies. They should really wait on Black Sails for Lupa.

This show is entertaining so far and the medicine is mostly accurate, but it's basically highly dramatized competency porn. More realistic compared to most medical dramas, though, absolutely. I bet you'll see a lot of healthcare workers exaggerate how realistic it is because this is how they want to imagine themselves and have others view them, but it's very idealized. The staff is unrealistically hypercompetent and the pacing is also hypercondensed--you'd maybe get all the shit shown in this first hour over the course of an entire shift. 90% of ER nursing is starting IVs and giving medications to patients with random, undiagnosable chest or abdominal pain, waiting around for results to come through, then give them discharge instructions or a half-assed report to the admitting floor. 90% of ER doctoring is just reading through the triage note, ask a few questions without touching the patient, order some shit, evaluate the results, then consult another doctor or discharge. Every once in a while they'll do a bedside procedure. Plus a lot of charting all around, though most ER nurses barely bother. This isn't what working in a hospital looks like.

I worked at a nursing home and saw a lot of situations similar to the lady with automatic cpr machine. It's a mix of being absolutely beyond overwhelmed and overworked and people who could give less of a shit that they're responsible for someone's parent, friend or family member

Depends on the hospital the one you describe is more like my cousins whereas my mothers was BRUTAL. The lady that was head nurse ran that place like a military operation clean, efficient, and effective like a well-oiled machine. She was meaner than a rattlesnake though 20+ years experience nursing basically never went home and worked 90+ hours a week. My mother was the same I barely knew her until high school when she quit never sung me lullabies, wasn’t there to hug me, etc she was working and in fact put so much overtime hours the job had to force her to take time off. She almost died a few times too due to the stress and overwork

TL;DR: Be excellent to each other < 3 Resubbed just for this! I'm very interested to see how you guys and the community take to the show. The channel has covered prestige and serious shows in the past, but I don't think it's ever covered something quite so universal, serious, and like, personal? Obviously the show is entertainment and was made with that in mind, but at the same time it's grounded in very personal and real situations. It's also a show that's explicit (and for some, heavy handed) in its politics, which I think is also new. All that to say I hope everyone in the community can engage with the show and the reactions with good faith given the subject matter. In a world of "it's not that deep bro", this show is very much the opposite, and that's okay.

Ah that broke my heart. My grandma had a heart attack and they used a LUCAS machine on her. She came back but had another heart attack and they couldn't bring her back sadly. So they do work but it seems like a violent machine.
