I love all the misdirects the show throws at you about who the manhunter could be. The sheriff and the gilf are definitely the prime suspects but its fun knowing it could be anybody in town.

I think it’s the wife John got with because she said her husband offers her security. And when she said he could’ve gotten with some blonde woman but he wanted HER. That’s why they have that militia fortress and why they scan for aliens. Because he’s trying to protect her. Maybe it started as her being his “benefactor” but then they maybe fell in love. This is all just my theory but then I wonder if man hunters can reproduce. I would think so because those other aliens said that if they’re in their human form they can die as a human. It's legal in America. The rationale is that you're trespassing and therefore , they can say they "feared for their safety" , then basically murder you and since you're dead and on their property, the law swings their way. But it's a lot deeper than that, the man is also rich and influential. He's got lawyers, police chiefs and secret alien benefactors at his disposal. Covering up a murder is easy. In fact, Hal's probably only alive specifically because he's a Lantern, and it would be hella difficult to come up with a reasoning for why you murdered someone like that.
