Dude, I’m loving this show. Ngl, I was one of the many people that was skeptical about it based on all the trailers and first looks, but holy shit, this has been some great television.

Ep 4 shows that hal may be old, jaded and ignorant but he still has the experience of being green lantern for 30 years. He still has good instincts and can read people like how he clocked that John wasn't upset about zoe being dead cause she's not and may be the manhunter. Experience that john lacks. John being trained his whole life does make him uniquely qualified but he still lacks the experience and wisdom of being green lantern and dealing with extraterrestrial threats hence why he slept with zoe again even though he suspected her and then didn't even tell hal of his suspicions which means he still has a lot more to learn. Hal and John each have what the other lacks ( hal having the experience and wisdom while John has the creativity and discipline) which is why when they truly work together they can be a good team which we saw a glimpse of this episode. Them learning to truly work together will be needed to defeat the manhunter. Also I doubt Hal was actually sending reports to the guardians considering he hasn't backed up his consciousness in the ring for 10 years.

Hal didn't try to kill him he just wanted to shake him. Really he assumes John is compromised because he took so long to admit Zoe was a manhunter, note this is just after Hal talked about manhunters swaying hearts and minds like a parasite almost. That and he's aware John has the big blue bosses permission to randomly usurp him if he ever felt like it and John already doesn't like him. Hal thinks it's safest to fly solo.

It's just feels off to me personally because we've only see one guardian so far and they seem to want a obedient perfect soldier that asks no questions whatsoever which hal isn't. These are aliens who don’t care about personal feelings or human emotions as far as we’re concerned. I mean, they openly admitted to their flawed selection process so it’s almost like they didn’t intend for Hal to get the ring & seeing his disobedience, recklessness, willpower & worse, his emotional tie to Sinestro, confirms their mistrust & makes them fear that Hal may walk the same path as him & end up being their downfall so they recruited John to be their eyes & ears. Guardians are also capable of being huge assholes, sketchy & manipulative & Sinestro did mention that the council wanted to pit Hal & John against each other so they can see who’d be a better fit for the ring so maybe this is just who the guardians truly are & that’s also partly why they don’t trust Hal still being tied to Sinestro.

I JUST thought about this, the dark stuff they used to disable the ring reminds me of Black Hand. Also just realized John immediately says "you're saying they don't have a choice?" because he's already trying to sympathize with Zoe knowing it's her then immediately tries to act like he thinks it's Macon. That whole convo just confirmed from Hal's POV that John can't be trusted W dialogue writing. Yall I went back and watched episode 3 and 4 again and im thinking more and more that the "Guardian Lianna" is the Manhunter. I think one of 2 things: 1. Either Lianna has been a Manhunter the whole time or 2. the Lianna we saw in episode 3 was real and the one in episode 4 was posing as her. There is such a vast difference in their demeanor between episode 3 and 4. At no point during Lianna's meeting with John's mom or her interview with John did she ever come off as mean and manipulative but she most definitely was that in episode 4 and that could either be cuz episode 4 Lianna was a poser or she just let her mask slip but I think its the former. Also, when Lianna showed up in John's hotel room the lights flickered. Neither the driveway light nor the street lights flickered when Lianna appeared in the Stewarts driveway. That's either cuz they're 2 different people or its possible the light flicker was just off screen. Lianna was also using the same manipulation tactics that Sinestro was using on Hal so it also could be that Lianna really is a Guardian and shes just in cahoots with Sinestro and the Manhunter (her working with Sinestro would explain how he knew about John, she told him). Idk man, I really think Lianna is the true villain here or at the very least theres more going on with her

It's amazing how many people didn't notice this. He was also willing to sacrifice Will Macon to protect the identity of the Manhunter. That's beyond compromised territory into straight up evil territory.

Caught up with the show last night and I love it. This buddy cop approach to a super-hero story is so brilliantly unique. I also wanna talk about what’s said during the car ride after Zoe’s “death”. Hal advises John to not form relationships as a Green Lantern, claiming it’s a lonely job. And when John asks him if he talks with the other Lanterns, Hal goes “Nah! They’re aliens, they all hate me.” Hal saying that really confused me at first, but after a while it clicked: this explains his attitude throughout the show, as well as the recurring idea that he’s lonely. Hal isn’t an asshole for the sake of being an asshole, it’s a defence mechanism. He purposefully keeps people at arms length to avoid being hurt. And the reason for that is probably Sinestro. Remember, it’s revealed during John’s interview that Sinestro was not only Hal’s mentor, but his father figure too. Only for Sinestro to betray Hal and go rogue, forcing him to put him in jail for potentially life. That traumatic event must’ve severely hurt Hal’s ability to trust others, so he developed this idea to act like a jerk so people wouldn’t get close to him. That’s why he acts the way he does with Kerry and John. Hal is scared of being betrayed by the people he might put his trust in, so he acts cocky and arrogant to avoid forming relationships. That’s why I don’t believe what Hal said about the other Green Lanterns hating him. I’m sure a lot of them truly care about him, but Hal pushes them away out of fear of being betrayed. Saying they all hate him is probably Hal’s way to make it easier for him to avoid befriending them.

I don't know, call me crazy but I wouldn't be surprised if the next episode opens up with the reveal that Hal shielded John from the crash. I think it's more likely that this was just Hal's method of ditching him and trashing the car than Hal actually trying to kill him.

As much as I love the show, the inconsistencies bother me. How is the ring considered one of the most powerful weapons in the universe, but John says Hal should be worried about 3 trained human snipers? I wish they'd kept the ring at low power cuz then I'd have a explanation but it's fully charged. A full charged ring can't handle snipers? Most of the limitations seem to be because of budget restraints obviously but at least suspend my disbelief with a low powered ring or something.
