Season 1, Episode 3 is still my favorite episode; yet had no idea that Shizuku's backstory would come back into play. Second half had me legit pissed off, that woman doesn't deserve to be a soulmate. Not to mention a Hahari episode that doesn't make me question why I watch this show. Fair play this episode. Shizuku hugging Nano at the end damn near broke me...

Roshi landed on what makes the series so good at the end and what this season has been missing, they skipped ahead about 50+ chapters to pull this story for the anime, but at that point around chapter 130ish these interpersonal relationships and Rentaro-less chapters that give the girls more depth are the norm. Hell the fact that this nice serious arc about one of the original 5 girls was taken from after 100 chapters already have passed, shows that they keep developing a lot of the cast for a long time, even as the cast grows. I say it a lot in these comments but if you even remotely like the show, give the Manga a read so you can catch more of good fluff that they are skipping over in the anime.

So funny you mention pairs, the manga covers always show new girlfriends in pairs. These are often who they are closest to for a while unless a better match shows up later. The pairs are usually in introduction order so Hakari+Karane, Shizuka+Nano, Kisuri is in both kid and teen form, and Hahari+Kirumi for earliest examples. A number of girls also have at least one, we wouldn’t be surprised if they started smashing, option. Not that many, but a good bit of them.

There's ALOT of the stuff the girlfriends do together skipped over because they tend to only be a couple pages of each chapter of the manga to fit as many as possible. Instead they choose the biggest stories and fit it in 2 halves of the episode but you miss a ton of character development.

This episode warmed my heart man 💗 also from what I hear, these kinds of date / solo / duo chapters are far more consistent throughout the manga, but I'm glad the anime (might not) be straight up skipping them but rather rearranging stuff where it makes sense for pacing.

In the manga, most of the time the flow of the story is: 1️⃣ Rentaro met the new girlfriend 2️⃣ Rentaro introduced the new one to his group of girlfriends 3️⃣ Girlfriend duo chapters (rng, but most of the time including the newest girlfriend) 4️⃣ Dates (usually multiple short dates with several girlfriends + one big date like this one with Hahari) 5️⃣ Teambuilding activities, like the episode about the hardcore group hot spring It's not that there is only duo contents once in a while, but they just decided to skip those in the anime. They actually speedrun the Rentaro's GF count this season, which is a shame because there are many monents like these in the manga, not just once in a while.

The photo is burnt because Rentaro tried to burn in when he met Ai. He wanted to prove she enjoyed their date and when she said she could take it or leave it he took a lighter to their photo, her snatching it away and stopping him showed her that she actually was starting to care about him. Also, these ladies are genuinely not straight, they end up romancing each other across the harem.

This show desperately needs 24 episode seasons, as a manga reader I love the adaption but it’s going to start looking like just throwing shit at the wall if they continue the rapid pace to fit 6 girlfriends a season without giving them room to breath especially as the gimmicks get more gimmicky than they already are. Current girlfriends like Chiyo and Iku and future ones like Uto and Suu are pretty one note in their gimmick but shine in the date/daily life chapters. Lowkey gives Anime Only watchers a skewed view of why the series is popular or more importantly confused on why certain girlfriends are popular outside the anime.

Totally agree, and the 4 girlfriends you mentioned are absolutely spot on. Tbh I was really confused about the latter two that you mentioned when they was introduced. Their daily life/date chapters definitely make up for it.

Facts, the real crime this season was not adapting Naddy/Chiyo chapter or at least Chiyo/Kusuri(18) moments, as that gives both of them more development and Chiyo way more likability. Also if they just drop Suu on the world and then breeze past that, that gimmick is going be seen as such a waste of a slot 😭 Uto is going to be popular though regardless
