Been waiting for this!

Jay R.

Sooooo Jinshi is lady ado’s and the current emperors SON right!? NOT the younger brother!?! Like I’m not trippin right that is what the op is tryna tell me? Am I confused?😩

cuuuhris

Looking forward to this season and upcoming movie!

tyla_xoxo

Naw ur not trippin. The show is makeing it overly complicated.

Pochita

Maomao deducted that in the first season lol

Jay R.

Ok THANK GOD I been thinking I was slow for 2 seasons 😭my new question is: does Jinshi know or does he really think he’s the son of the Pdf emperor 👀

Jay R.

@Pochita Right, but all the other characters INCLUDING Jinshi was saying he was the younger brother. It was two possible truths and the mystery was that way on purpose to make us go back and forth.

Hatty Time

So Yue in Chinese means moon and Jinshi is the "Moon Prince" by his royal title. His "brother" is suggesting it's time for Jinshi to finally marry Maomao.

Mistico

This entire episode has a lot of symbolism being shown, from the intro to the episode itself. Jinshi's real name is Ka Zuigetsu, but his real mom, Lady Ah-Duo would call him by her nickname for him, Yue. Yue = Moon. His official title is Moon prince. By the end season 2, Jinshi's official identity was much more of a speculation than a confirmation. One part of the season 3 intro shows Lady Ah-Duo and the empress dowager Lady Anshi both grabbing hold of a moon before swapping them with each other. both moons are lit up before the swap and one's light fates after the swap to resemble the baby swap that happened between them. confirming that Jinshi, the baby that's still alive, is in fact the true heir. Maomao can also be seen caressing the moon on the left side, the side that Jinshi's new scar should be, the scar that he received from Shisui at the end of the second season. The ending shows the emperor visiting Lady Ah-Duo, who's no longer a high ranking consort, but is still the emperor's most trusted confidant. The emperor tells Lady Ah-Duo that " maybe it's time for Yue to pick a flower". I don't know if it's still used today, but back then when a woman loses her virginity they would say " she's been deflowered" Soo the emperor is basically saying that, It's time for Jinshi to pick a potential virgin marriage partner, A flower.

Hatty Time

Small note, this has been a reoccurring translation error even in the manga. They are mixing up grasshoppers and locusts at the end. They mistakenly call the spotted locusts as grasshoppers that taste bad and are damaging crops. It's the other way around where the spotted ones are bad and grasshoppers are safe and eaten. Technically speaking locusts are just a variant of grasshoppers that are swarming, due to stressful conditions that turn them yellow with dark spots, smaller size with less muscle mass, then proceed to swarm by reproducing rapidly and devouring hordes of food with their overly large population.

Krype

Yes my Chinese soap opera is back 😭

Coatl45

Jinshi doesn’t know. Only Lady Anshi, Lady Ahduo, and the Emperor knows, and it’s still unclear if he knows because he was told, or because he figured it out on his own.

Rome

all LN readers know what scene we waiting for

Osborn Malakhov

I fucking love this show! Peak has returned men, gather round!! 🤘

corLeonis

Picking a flower means he must now choose a wife

Chanceg983

Damn the intro filled with spoilers 😭

Lurkingposter

Time to marrry. Not Maomao because then there would be no drama.

Gilthwixt

You don't even have to go that far with the metaphor. All of the Consorts and many of the key women in the show are themed after flowers. Maomao is funny in that she's themed after Wood Sorrel, which is a very common/plain flower compared to all the others. But we all know that's what Jinshi likes.

Gilthwixt

I think Jinshi's internal monologues have implied as early as Season 1 that he suspects he is Ah Duo's son but has no interest in being the heir, so he's totally fine being "the brother".

Gilthwixt

Yeah I learned this a while ago so I was always confused that it was the opposite of what I knew

Adiuva

Funny enough, literally learned this from the reddit discussion thread where someone linked the PBS video that went over it. Knew they were both grasshoppers but never really understood the difference nor did I have a reason to look deeply into it.

Bria A.

I believe someone else said it but you might as well discard most of what you just learned about locusts vs. grasshoppers lmao. There's some translation issues and nuance but mostly, grasshoppers are harmless and edible, locusts (which are in and of themselves a specific variety of grasshopper) are a crop plague and taste bad.

Gate

i like that the granny is soft on kids

Lsg_Lani

Welp time to go back and rewatch szn 2😂

Huemon_Nottabear

Locust swarms used to absolutely devastate the central us, but then people started moving into the Rockies and accidentally destroyed the breeding grounds. They're extinct now.

Luciaron

This show is so atmospheric, love it

Cristher Gamayo

Yue can mean moon I believe and women are constantly referred to as flowers. So, perhaps the emperor is saying it’s time for the Moon Prince, Jinshi, to pick a girl.

Rishad GB

think it meant jinshing choosing a girl or flower as it means

Severus Alaerth

man fuck Crunchyroll's subs they doing it again

Jovian Beato

Yall should react to the show Carrie

Happy to be here

Makes even less sense as a mistake when they call the crops’ infestation “a locusts plague”, like which is it?

Co

Dookie is back

Fenpai

I assume The Emperor was refering to Jinshi. Yue might be his real name. The flower is probably him picking a woman. Could be wrong, light novel readers would know more.
