Watching this over eight weeks I thought this wasn’t as good, but in a binge this is actually a very good season. I agree seasons 1 and 2 are better but I liked how this dealt with the themes of identity and the concept of the self while also dealing with the classic White Lotus stuff of how wealth and privilege affects relationships. This finale might be the best one for me of all the seasons because it covers so much ground.

I dunno, this season just felt very unsatisfying. Gaitok gets to be a bodyguard even though he is so unfit for the job and against his personality. We don't see the fallout from Tim's shady business dealings even though he was about to kill his whole family over it, and we have no idea how they would actually react to it. The friend group was a big nothing, even something small like Fabian, who it was built up a little bit about how he really wanted to sing and he was so nervous, and then we see him sing for two seconds and we don't even know if it went good or bad. Rick is this tortured soul who's revenge quest went on for several episodes, then he just pushed the guy over in his chair? Even their final confrontation just felt rushed. I'm happy for Belinda I guess. I feel sorry for Pornchai but I'm glad she got the heck out of there unscathed.

I enjoyed binging the season, but overall the season was quite unsatisfying and surface level in the plot points it explored. I think it's the weakest of the three. Season 2 is my personal fav thematically and in terms of the cast. Season 1 is probs the next best one after that

Sheera did it again... Happy that Belinda got her money and can go start her business. Her son was the closer!! 2>3>1 Season 3 didn't aim to be the sexiest or the funniest. It was introspective with much deeper themes. I had to confirm because the credits only list Mike White, but yeah, he's the only writer and director on the entire series so far. That's impressive to do 3 seasons which have different feels to them. HBO is letting him cook. Walton Goggins is my guy (Justified day 1 viewer over here) and as per usual he did a job with the Rick character. Crashed all the way out and was a marksman while doing so.

everyone being so confused on why the fruit is there lol. you can meet this tree anywhere in southeast asia. people actually plant it on their yard just for shade or decoration. and they have a lot of fruits but the fruits have no meat so we cant really eat it if we want to. it's just like a very big seed. everyone knows it's not for eating, like that fact has been downloaded tou our conscience since birth lol

This chick put sooo many flags in her own back through the whole season i thought the show HAD to be swerving me. The show also has a weird thing with women characters. Theyre all so fake. None of them follow through and just become jaded. The young girls are optimistic about something and older women are just like nah we suck don’t try to change. And then they get proven right. Tanya ditched Belinda then she turned around and did the same thing. The girls in season one were preachy but the mom was like fuck all that we better than poor people then they started thinking like her. Same thing with the daughter this season

The group’s relationship mirrored the relationship from the first season. They really don’t like each other but they continue being friends due to their history together. Jaclyn screwed over Laurie but Laurie has to come to terms with it in order to continue being her friend. Jaclyn is clearly the “group leader” which explains why Kate makes excuses for her behaviour (whenever Jaclyn is around) but could acknowledge that Jaclyn was a bad friend behind her back. Everyone who’s been in a friend group with a “group leader” knows exactly how the group reacts when you stand up to them. “You’re just overreacting” “I’m sure they didn’t mean it that way.” Everything Laurie was told throughout the week. But in the end, without them, she’s alone. She can’t afford to lose them as connections.

That’s kinda the whole point of The White Lotus. If anything I’d argue more went down in S3 than S1 and S2. We don’t see the fallout from Tim’s shady business because we’re watching “The White Lotus” where random people come to a resort, we learn about them, then they leave. The writing is fairly vague about their lives beforehand. It’s up to your interpretation regarding what happens to them after. “The friend group was a big nothing” no it was realistic. It was the stereotypical “girl friend group fights during vacation” storyline, and it ended exactly how all those relationships end, with everyone back to being friends. That’s realistic.

Imo the interesting stuff is the writing. The friend group mirrored a lot of people’s friendships. Jaclyn is the big star/group leader. It’s clear that Laurie has felt a way about Jaclyn for years and her feelings are justified by her behaviour. But from her perspective, Laurie is simply jealous and bitter because her life didn’t pan out the way she expected. Then there’s Kate. I have a friend exactly like Kate. The quiet observer who knows the group leader is insufferable, but they’ll never stand up to them. She downplayed Laurie’s concerns and even started freaking out when Laurie mentioned confronting Jaclyn. She had no issue expressing how she felt about Jaclyn, but the moment her comments could go back to Jaclyn, she immediately cowered. All of that was amazing writing, not because it reinvented the wheel but it told the story of friendships in a very realistic way. In the end, each woman needed one another. Laurie needed friends to avoid being alone. Jaclyn, despite being popular, has no real connections. And Kate is a follower. Which is why, despite being liberal, she followed her husband’s footsteps and became conservative. Her character is consistent the whole way through

I feel like Victoria knew Tim was taking the pills and just didn't want to say anything. The fucked up thing with Gaitok was that it wasn't even self defense. Rick was unarmed, had his hands full and was slowly walking away. Gaitok didn't even see what happened, his boss just pointed at a guy and said kill him. Gaitok straight up murdered that man.

The dialogue written for Belinda's son was so interesting to me. "A dream deferred" and "Yes we can". They have him casually drop some important lines in black history. The part where Zion says "she might just explode" is straight out of Harlem by Langston Hughes. And we see him and his mom get an opportunity to move up in the world and seize it. This show is one big lampoon of modern culture, so it doesn't seem like a coincidence that they're evoking language from struggle for equal rights, while Belinda and Zion compromise their morals to move into the upper class.
