Kinda hard to say never when he laid siege to Ba Sing Se. He lost his son and his position as the next firelord along with his father at the same time. He hit rock bottom a lot harder than Zuko, but he changed after that and most likely lost interest in war and violence

i think iroh was always one for the peace. it was only during his fathers reign that all the majorly bad things happened. of course it was war, but judging based off how knowledgable he is of the spirit realm and his overall understanding for zuko, i think he never really had any true interest in conquering anything. he just had to do what he was told and we know how wicked things get if you don't, zuko is the purest example.

Kinda crazy to think about when you consider almost nobody in the fire nation knew about the weakness of a solar eclipse judging by how Azula was surprised by the plan and some firebender soldiers still believed they could bend during the eclipse. Iroh must have known about it for the entirety of the series (in-universe at least). Really displays that present day Iroh was NEVER on the Fire Nation's side when it came to the war.
