I just noticed that when Toph was about to ask who Jeong Jeong is, she says "Nevermind, if it's important I'll find out" & then a couple episodes later they actually do meet 😂

Rewatching for the Nth time, and while Combustion Man showing up is convenient to advance the plot, it's a really nice touch that it's not just the "stage play" of Zuko saving them from the big bad. From their perspective they see him struggling a bit and then getting blown off the cliff. They don't even see he survived on the vine until after Combustion Man implodes. He didn't do something amazing and heroic to save them - he was simply there trying no matter what. Sokka saves the day, and so it's not like they owe Zuko their lives per se. They have to make a genuine choice to accept him based on seeing him put himself out there. It's subtle, but keeps the drama through the final scene with Katara better than if he had just saved them. OTOH what WOULD that conversation between Toph and Zuko been like if he hadn't burned her. I can't help wondering other ways they could have written this one after seeing it so many times.

Every single time I watch this episode, I can't get over the writers doing whatever they can do to remove the extra characters 🤣 Like, ya'lls family were taken as well and you just lost an invasion! Why would everyone be okay with just going to explore, especially during key discussions 🤣 Obviously the writers don't need them, but just funny to see each time

I think there is some truth to it. Some children show their emotions very well. But others like to distract themselves when they feel sad. I was also like that as a child and still as an adult. I acknowledge my emotions and I don't ignore them. But I like to deal with sad emotions by doing stuff. Like listening to music looking at pictures or walking in nature. Or anything I like to do. In that way, I can combine the sad and happy feelings.

i never understand these critiques because the show is literally about magic. i could undersrtand if it were sports, but its not, and in most magic series theres always people who have a natural inclination to be great. Katara is just another example of someone with a natural inclination. same with aang, toph, and azula.

katara is basically the water bending counterpart to azula. similar level of talent and skill and was trained. if anything she has more talent than azula since she is close to her level of strength after much less time training. and for zuko being better due to being trained at birth. meh he is untalented and only gained a huge boost in power due to meeting the dragons. bending is about understanding the element more than the forms or I'm assuming the amount of chi you have. chi being the energy that allows them to manipulate the energy. isn't used up but the more you have the stronger your bending. toph for example has a ton of understanding due to badgermoles plus the talent and most likely a good amount of chi. aang had the flying bison to learn from and a teacher and talent. the idiot in the original comment doesn't know anything about bending. trained since a kid is such a stupid thing to say.

It always annoyed me when Katara was talking to him about ending his destiny. I'm pretty sure they are both matched in strengths, the only way Katara could completely end him would be if it was a full moon giving her the ability to bloodbend.

one thing i caught that i thought was a nice touch was that the metal rotating doors protecting the exposed part of the temple don't match with the rest of the temple, if i were to guess, this air temple was probably the last one to be attacked since its so well hidden and the doors were a last minute addition to safeguard against the firebenders

Na its a toss up without bloodbending, they made katara say she would end zuko so the audience took it more seriously and to emphasise kataras state of mind at that point in time. Thats my take anyway lol.

If it seemed like the climax of the combustion man fight was rushed, it was. Apparently the fight was suppose to be longer but production ran out of time. Awesome save by Sokka though. Boomerang!!!

You know, this episode reflects modern society a bit. A lot of people making judgements based on their emotions, and then someone reasonable comes up and speaks logically without the emotions, and they get attacked as "defending" someone when all they're doing is pointing out the facts. I mean, it's a human flaw, becoming overly emotional and judgmental, so of course it would reflect reality on some level, but it's still interesting to see.

They’re not just making judgements based on emotions, its based off past action & history. It’d be foolish & unrealistic to immediately trust someone who has proven themselves untrustworthy. Toph was quick to trust, disregarding their reasons, & literally got burned for it. It was only once Zuko put in the work to prove himself, thats when the gang opened up to him.

Toph getting burned was an accident, and when she was telling them that Zuko is only person that can teach Aang firebending they weren't considering that because they were judging more by their emotions. I do agree that Zuko had to work to earn their trust, but if the group had been thinking more reasonably (and it's understandable why they weren't) when Zuko first came to them they wouldn't have to immediately trust him, but instead they could have taken him as prisoner when he offered himself up as one, and considered him becoming Aang's teacher.
