Before I watch this video I'm just gonna point out that Ed is a girl cause I know you guys might be wondering that

BERMY

thx for the subtitles lmao

David

Yeah, they wanted to represent androgynous characters as well, like VT. Anime was definitely ahead of its time.

Infierno23

The drawings they referenced are real btw. The Nazca Lines, really cool.

kurumi Tokisaki

One of my favorite episodes of the series. Radical edward !!!

eric

eds a girl

Not gonna lie, speaking as someone who had no trouble hearing them from the beginning, those subtitles (actually *captions*, not subtitles, there's a big difference) are actually just really distracting, considering how god awful the timing is. It often shows text while a completely different line is being spoken (sometimes 2 or 3 lines away from where the text is), and just as often shows a line for a fraction of a second so it's impossible to actually read it. Of course, captions are meant for people who literally can't hear, so people programming them generally have no incentive to put any effort into timing.

Lurkingposter

Her design and voice acting is clearly feminine.

Cody Braim

Damn y’all 0 for 2 on guessing the gender lmao

Cody Braim

Oh and the lines the satellite was talking about are called the Nazca Lines, they’re a real thing

David

Roshi mentioned it's because audio levels on Bebop are pretty low and can be low during recording too, so it helps to hear specific things/when they're talking. The captions weren't distracting at all, you get used to them.

Young Suave1

Please watch kuroko no basket after this or when you start watching a new show please that show is great

Adam Vialpando

How are there still people who still don't know about the Nazca Lines in Peru. Even if you don't know what they are the designs are so well known and recognisable that I assumed most people had seen at least one carving.

XerBlade

First of all, I know he mentioned that (as well as other details making it clear this new change isn't to help THEM hear specific things, but for US, since it isn't about having them while they're watching it's about recording them now). That's why I said what I said at the beginning. Second, yes, they are extremely distracting. And no, *I* don't get used to them. It just gets more and more distracting as it goes on. P.S. I wasn't even mad about them being distracting. But it does get annoying whenever someone tries to tell me what I should feel.

Saleenseven

another awesome reaction. so happy yall picked up bebop

Two years late so excuse the intrusion, but I’ve read from multiple sources that Ed was written as a guy, but the series director simply wanted two men and two women for the crew and had them change Ed’s gender mid production. Not a matter of representation of breaking gender binaries, but simply an evening out of the shows gender diversity
