Its actually not a copy, but a franchise thing.... Sunrise studio always have certain things they ALWAYS do for almost all their mecha anime (Gundam etc.) there is always an island episode where enemies meet. There is always a guy with a mask, there is always a cute mascot (cat vs. Haro), there is typically a pink haired princess or princess, there is always a red mecha vs. a white mecha as the main focus, there is always a small bit of fanservice randomly in the show showing nips somewhere...
