john

just because some bitches cant handle sadness its a bad episode i dont want anyone compliant about writing of this anime its a masterpiece and you will realize it when you watch it 11 times

Brian Estepa

That is the sub you see in the edit. The sub they are actually watching is way better.

Brad

I've been waiting for this episode!

Mew

THIS IS IT! PAIN

Gabby Boakye-yiadom

Lelouch's biggest mistake. Now this moment is honestly condemned for being overly contrived as why did Lelouch's Geass lose control at that exact moment as he made a simple jest. But as you guys also pointed out this was honestly the best thing that could happen to the Black Knights as it reinforces their goals. Euphemia honestly got one in one with winning Lelouch over with Nunnally and the Britannians couldn't touch her being one of the princesses. She unintentionally made a premature checkmate that stopped them in their tracks. But the game has to go on.

Friendly Elites

this was the moment i realized code geass was a masterpiece

Randy Macklin

Subtitles got the number wrong by the way - it wasn't 20,000 people, it was 200,000.

Quelz

HERE. WE. GO.

kai

This episode was just a mess Lelouch fucked up so bad

Benji

It's been years since I've watched code geass so I don't remember much, but I COMPLETELY forgot about this OMG. Such a crazy episode!

Rich

Lupa :(

Viela Guay

Bruh that beginning part regarding the subtitles killed me too.

Starlecchino

They're watching a better subtitle and just showing us the inferior one. I'm sure it got the number right.

Delip K Hurtault

My man Lupa was emotionally drained in 20 seconds lol.

Thamor

Lupa shock face oO

Jason Lupas

ooof Lupa's reaction went from shoot this biatch to damm cant believe that just happened real quick .

Jules Eris

aaaw Lupa is sad :'(

J. J.

An area where Elevens are treated equally: "WTF?? Bullshit!" Japanese kid gets beat up by 2 guys on the street: "No comment"

Carl Henderson

The episode that I've been waiting for!

Kaz Z.

Correct me if I’m wrong. Isn’t that the first time Lelouch told someone about his power? Cause if so that just makes this whole thing even sadder for me. That’d mean Euphy was the only one that he trusted enough to talk about his power. What a cruel twist of fate.

Kaz Z.

Hahaha I mean why would they comment on that? It just reinforces what they believe about Britannia. That’s the reason why they’d say “WTF??? Bullshit!” because how can Britannia be even trusted.

Danny

Soooo...did yall like Lelouch's sense of humor? 10/10 for being bloody hilarious

XerBlade

The Britannians absolutely could touch her. Specifically, the other princes and princesses. Backstabbing each other is encouraged in the royal family. Granted most of them literally never have anything to do in this whole series.

XerBlade

99 times out of 100, their subtitle is the inferior one. It's tossing memes and fan references into theirs. The subtitle we're getting may not be perfect, but at least it's faithful.

Gabby Boakye-yiadom

Not if Cornelia has anything to say about it. Not to mention, Euphy was well liked in the family as she was never seen as a threat to anyone since she never took part in the succession race. She had to even agree to renounce claim altogether to get this. Japan is nothing more than a whim to their near global conquest and Brittania wanted to take advantage of her decision anyway more specifically Schniezal.

Jacob Wolf

These subs have been meh, I know you all did poll, but the dubs for geass are one of the best ive seen. That being said: Emperor(Sub): "He finally did it" Emperor(Dub): "Yes! You're worthy of being called my child now!"

Baren Nerab

bruh from the beginning of this video to the end was reallll different hahaa

Jake Young

Lupa died in this episode. RIP. There was so much violence it looked like he shut down for a bit lmao. No one is ever ready for the Euphinator

John Johnson

Don't think anyone could be ready for this episode.

Umbra_Nex

Just to clarify for you: Lelouch wasnt going to tell the noble to kill himself on accident. He meant it. He covered it up because his friend ran in front of the noble, and Lelouch would have hit him with the geass to kill himself if he didnt stop. He didnt lose control until he fell to his knees and clutched his eye while talking to Euphy. Thanks for all the content! :D

Devin B

Yeah this is the first time. He told her basically the gist of his power without saying what exactly it is but yeah he genuinely thought that he could create change with Euphy until that slip up in the end.

zaphyre

lol this episode is truly cursed

Ranginald Vagel

Realistically Brittannia can’t be the ones to give the Elevens freedom. I don’t think there’s ever been a people freed by some of their oppressors suddenly starting to play nice getting nothing in return. And a freaking special zone? That’s just a ridiculous compromise that still leaves most of the people as second class citizens.

UYMAAGEEK

I know thats why ive been so disappointed, things are lost in translation now and its weirdly not as energetic to me

Tan Vu

I love how you guys dropped this video 1 day before Lelouch's Birthday, December 5th. KUDOS

Misato-San!

With the nobleman on the street. I thought he was intentionally telling the guy to go kill himself, he only stopped because Rivalz was stepping in the way, he basically almost geassed his best friend into killing himself

Zonbi

Yeah, I think you're right. The situation pretty much highlighted two things. Lelouch's hypocrisy for criticizing the noble's use of "borrowed power" and the foreshadowing of Lelouch accidentally harming a friend.

Senpai

When you roll a Nat 1.

allmight_stan

Well I mean, it seems like the dub just took liberties to make it unambiguous because the Japanese dub (which is the original) literally translates to "He finally did it?!". Anyways I'm a first time watcher and I haven't seen the dub so I don't really know which I would enjoy more. All I know is I enjoy Lelouch's overdramatic Japanese VA so far lol

TJ Frangie

The sub they are watching actually has different translations. I believe this is just the downloaded version they use for us. Which is strange, but you can tell fairly often they are reading different words than what we see.

Ishmeet Tuteja

Yo Lupa is D O N E. HE AINT HERE FOR IT LMAO

Zonalsteve

Yo roshi you getting on AOT??

Chimpman

No his geass started activating on accident. He stops himself before Rivalz even starts to intervene.

Saleenseven

Huh that is actually something I never realized...can we get confirmation on this? Like the editor just throws 9anime up but they use something else?

Johnathan Era

not really tho. i mean he did but he had literally no idea this could happen. this is honestly a pretty contrived moment. it activated SPECIFICALLY right at that moment on the third request and not the first or second? this honestly isnt lelouch's fault. but at the same time he is the one that caused it sooooo.

Johnathan Era

no thats just cinamatography, he noticed rivalz jumping into the fray and realized he could hit him along with the aristocrat with his geass. nothing was accidental there.

Johnathan Era

lol. fucking for real, nat 1 on the persuasion roll. what happens? you have started a genocide and a world war. fucking dnd.

Joel Braaten

One of the craziest anime episodes ever.

D Reed

This was some bullshit, when I first watched this I was heartbroken seeing euphy run down the ones she wanted to help with an mp5 or some shit.

JsnSkg

Bro, the Geass just had to involuntarily activate at THAT moment. Goddamn. Especially in the very last moment with the tears, you could tell that the guilt, regret, and hopelessness was eating Lelouch alive, and as Zero he just had to tough it out and adapt.

JsnSkg

And having so many in one place is just asking for a massacre like that. Even if Lelouch hadn't fucked up with his Geass going berserk, pretty sure the royalty ABOVE Euphy would have still done some fuckshit. "Oh hey, they're all conveniently in one location. Yeah, Euphy, we don't give a shit about your beliefs" and bomb the hell out of it. There's that type of anime, that just creates conflict after conflict after conflict. This is one of them. And it does it well.

CRuEL_WOrlD

His malfunction couldn't have happened at a worse time... It's like when you don't piss before leaving home and suddenly when you're in the middle of a meeting with no bathroom nearby, your bladder's about to explode :v

KimKaiRen

Bruh this episode was insane.

JD

Fucking hell this episode is tragic as hell. I'm depressed now, Jesus. Loulouch was ready to make peace and try to make Euphemia's idea work and that happened. All those hopeful people became victims of a genocide.

Reign

Lupas Face when he realized he called what was gonna happen 5 minutes in lmaoooo

Reign

Also watching this episode fucking tears me apart inside everytime. Its rough.

Benjamin Moore

This was and still is one of my least favorite episodes of anime. Yes, anime. The first time I saw it, I dropped this show for a couple weeks. I thought that was the worst written plot device ever. So his power just happened to go uncontrollable which he was giving a hypothetical worst-case scenario command. Really?! This show is amazing, but that was uncalled for.

Festx

This episode has a lot of meaning and wasn't really used for just a plot device. First of all, it wasn't out of no where, in the 2 mao episodes you learn that if you use geass too much it'll go out of control and lelouch has indeed used it a ton. Secondly, her death helped move many plot moving factors such as making Lelouch understand the risk of using his power and now that it's out of control; To use it more carefully, you can even see he sways away from C2 because of what just happened with Euphemia, which shows that he doesn't want that to happen again with anybody. Lelouch is human so it helped develope his human side in which he has feelings for the actions he's done and reflects back to the accident with Euphy all throughout the rest of the anime. "It also showed suzaku's change in behavior emphasizing how people and there morals change when they see someone they love die" - Akshay Iyer. And lastly Euphemia's character was done with development the past couple episodes, because it showed her kindess and faith within Lelouch the MC, to go the extra mile in trusting him, so making him kill her had a devastating emotional hit to many people within the audience. This episode was definelty one of the best ones within code geass.

Sol Dragonbane

When you think that the anime is heading towards a good ending and then you look at the episode count and you realize that there are still 28 more episodes to go

Alellion

Something I also think is important for this scene (which I hadn't realized until my re-watching this with them) is the ideas of loneliness for Geass users. Both "If you truly wish to keep someone safe, you must not keep them near you" and "The power of Kings is one which isolates the user" are huge driving points for the plot of the show. We're continually shown that Lelouche wants to have this rebellion but is unwilling to abandon the people he cares about in his life, and this is essentially his hubris coming to bite him for not heeding CC's warnings. In terms of storytelling, it is also absolutely necessary. A Britannian sponsored zone would be a horrible scenario for the Japanese people on the whole. It would be a deeply unsatisfactory ending both for the story, and for the rebellion to have ended the story with the realization of the zone.

Festx

Well said, the anime deserves more love within the community as of now. It has sooo much going on for anime made in 2006 as an anime original. It may be towards the top of MAL but as of now I barley see people mention it and disregard it for whatever reason. Just hope to see this anime live on for a while longer, because of how well then story is and the anime is in general. A masterpiece if I do say so myself.
