Fun fact Shazam’s name was originally Captain Marvel. The reason they stopped using the name in future media is that marvel put out a lawsuit against the characters name because (Marvel) despite DC making the original character first.

The original character was actually created by Fawcett comics. DC sued them because of his likeness to Superman. DC won and got the rights to the character and Fawcett comics went out of business. Funny thing is DC never actually got the rights to the name Captain Marvel. So Marvel got it first and sued DC. And DC had to change his name to Shazam.

Yes, but not for the reason you think. It has to do with DC not having a trademark on Captain Marvel's name for a while, so Marvel decided to be assholes and create a new Captain Marvel character so they'd own the name. DC could still call the character that, but they couldn't title any of his comics "Captain Marvel". Eventually they decided trying to promote a character when they can't put his name in the title was a pain in the ass and just renamed him.
