This is a WHOLE ass isekai!?

Random Guy

The main reason I think why god gave tanya an "out" (her powers) is because he wants Tanya to realize her own mistakes and submit by her own volition. If he takes everything without giving him an out its basically the same as forcing her to submit at gun point.

Runelight

Actually in the manga god is just a really petty and selfish. He throws a fit when he originally refused to worship him. Reincarnation in the manga is actually a punishment, instead of getting to enjoy a peaceful after life those reincarnated must suffer through life a second time.

thatNEET_

10:40 he got reincarnated as an orphan with magical powers in a country where children with magical powers are conscripted into the military. If Tanya got conscriped, the chance of rising up in rank would be limited compared to if she volunteered herself and went to a military academy like she ends up doing.

Michael

Been waiting on this 😳

Thamor

Now you get it, where the salaryman reference from episode 1 came from.

Thamor

I don't think so, they did like only season 1.

Ethan

Lmao Lupa getting clapped with that 1800's comment xD. Love seeing me some large bomber aircraft and massive tanks used in the U.S. civil war time period xD

Sunshine Hall

After you finish tanya, since you've seen all 4 anime in isekai quartet, you should watch isekai quartet! It has overlord, konosuba, rezero, and tanya all in one show and its a short so it has roughly 10 minute episodes!

Tahti

Glad y’all are enjoying it! Don’t forget to watch the movie when you’re done with the series

VictorBR45

People with magical powers are forced to join the army and fight in the war. Knowing that, Being X gave her magical powers.

A

Speaking of the afterlife, you all should. check out Death Parade.

Jordan Odle

Can't wait for you guys to realize where she is in a real sense rather then when because that makes this funnier

Cephandrius

Definitely not their thing but it would be funny

Pablo Gutierrez

when i saw this ep. thought i missclicked on something else cause the way it started

関口信玄

I'm proud of the mc being an asshole to "God." I'm atheist, so I'd have a similar reaction. When you think about it, Being X is also an asshole. He's pretty much like, "Oh, you don't believe in me? Fuck you. We don't do freedom of belief here." Humans HAVE to have "faith" or else they're trash, essentially. Being X is more of an asshole than our mc.

Viela Guay

I like how it seems this God hasn't heard of the book of Job from the Bible (which is basically what Tanya was spitting at him as he was dying), which is odd since a lot of the symbology in the series would indicate some connection to the christian god, which to me indicates that this Being X is actually likely to be some Being X instead of the judeo-christian God they are trying to take the moniker of. Also gotta give the mans props from in his dying moments having the balls to shit talk "god's" methodology and performance.

Viela Guay

Nice catch on the Overlord reference. I mentioned it earlier but the authors are good friends. They even have the same Light Novel illustrator (he's like my favorite), which you can really notice if you watch the end credits of both Overlord and Tanya you'll see some art splashes by him.

Devin B

It would definitely be interesting to see them react to isekai quartet but like @Scotty said it might not be there thing cause if they didn't like the juju scrolls then they probably wouldn't like isekai quartet but who knows.

Devin B

I was hoping them referring to their country as the Fatherland would tip them off as to what country they're modeled after.

@llM1ghty

Fun fact, the novel writers of Overlord (Kugane Maruyama) and Tanya (Carlo Zen) are good friends. So this is like a free advertisement to each other.

Ranginald Vagel

Tanya is right, fuck Being D for demanding faith with no reason given

関口信玄

The thing about Isekai Quartet is you get to see the characters you're familiar with from different series interact with each other. Ever wonder what it would be like if Kazuma met Subaru? Isekai Quartet will show you. What if Tanya met Betty? Isekai Quartet will show you. Wanna see Aqua get triggered by Ainz just being there? There ya go. If you are familiar with the characters, it's absolutely fun and hilarious. I think they should at least give it a try. But if they don't want to, that's their decision ofc. But they'd be missin out on some must-see shenanigans.

t'shiar

To add on to my earlier comment on episode 1 (re: how they did a decent job of basing the guns on real world ones) The rifles used by Nordic mages are M1 Garands (Original "Gas Trap" version of the M1 Garand when it was adopted in 1936: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBAqqRiJRLQ) 1924 trials M1 Garand headspacing, not primer activation ( Gun Jesus , Ian, found out after the fact thanks to other researchers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WejY6KEotoU)

King DDD

Yo why did Roshi just randomly get scared? got me dying so hard lol

Tanya before reincarnation was just doing his job. He didn't fire that dude for no reason he states that the employee in question had missed workdays without notice or permission, and despite the board notifying the man that the work he was doing was poor and to improve he did not. In the manga the board offers him a different position in hopes of his efficiency improving but the employee turns it down. Tanya didn't fire him, he merely informed him of the board's decision. Yeah, he was unsympathetic but it was already a done deal and his two major personality points are ruthlessly utilitarian and career-minded.

Danny

Tanya was pretty much a socio and borderline psychopath who cared nothing but to survive for himself. In technicality hes not evil or anything, he doesn't enjoy warfare or the act of killing. He simply does it in this case because he deemed it necessary to survive. In fact he hates killing because he understands the risk of being killed as well. Everything he does is out of self preservation. Although he does have a very utilitarian approach and treats "following" the rules very strictly even when it comes to himself. Even there, he couldve escaped from the battlefield and pretended he was injured (since he was only a 9 yr old he could've used it to lower his punishment for ditching the battlefield) but he followed his orders even though it meant challenging a whole company of enemies by himself. Not to say he was definitely displeased by it

3rddynasty

I like how in Tanya's old life he wasn't a saint but he wasn't a total asshole. He was just a guy who followed the rules and did his job with the hope of being rewarded for his hardwork. If his subordinates did well he rewarded them. If they didn't they were moved elsewhere or fired. Simply put he was an actual human being with goals and beliefs of his own.

Omar Harriott

FACTS HIS PRETENTIOUS ASS how u god but cant keep track of every person WEAK

godUsoland

Big Facts. While he might seem near Omnipotent, it doesn't change the fact that Being X is an asshole. One of my favorite parts of the series is the MC's argument.

James Ancester

And just like that, Tanya learned the hard way that the reward for good work is most likely just more work.

Tay

this is nanami in a isekai

Razor4884

A sociopath yes, but I wouldn't say she is anywhere close to a psychopath. She is just incredibly pragmatic. In times of war, that behavior can express itself in some pretty messed up ways... But I can't hold that against her. It's just the consequences of the circumstances.

Amina Bryan

They gave a hint in the first episode that she might be a reincarnation when she called herself a salaryman.

Razor4884

When you realize that in anime archetypes, Tanya is technically a magical girl... Tanya best magical girl.

PG Modehouse

yes. but tanya is also a huge piece of shit

Kevin

I wonder if they will watch the Opening and Ending of the show, and tell us how they liked it.

SoggySoup

She was given magical powers because that guarantees her enlistment in the military is my best guess.

Jesus

You guys should see the intro and the ending too since it is as good as the opening and has the light novel art !!!!

Arc

"They probably did it cause she's a chick.".. Nah, gender doesn't matter - She's 11

Reign

so Gods not trying to teach him a lesson as much as he's trying to make him develop faith and trust in God by putting him in dire straits. He didn't make him complete trash for a reason youll find out next episode.

Reign

He/she is not a psychopath at all. you're calling sonmeone a sociopath and then psychopath on top of it which are two distinctly different things. You should probably learn what you're talking about before trying to seem smarter than you are in the comment section bro XD

Sup bruh

Aye they gotta watch isekai quartet now since I believe they’ve watched almost all of them (:

SupremeCai

Tanyas theme is so sick, gives me ultra instinct vibes when that shit kicks in. You know the smoke is comin lmaoo

grodon909

I think y'all missed some context earlier in the ep. X wants people to worship him, and pre-Tanya dude basically said he wouldn't admit a god existed unless he was in dire straits. So X put him in dire straits. X's goal is to put her in so much danger that he has to praise God. Tanya realizes that if she reaches an appropriate rank in the military, she can have a cushy desk job and not be in dire straits, thus not have to admit that there is a god.

grodon909

Bonus, now you have enough context to watch Isekai Quartet!

すもも麻子

The anime differs in that regard from the original LN, manga is also a bit different. From my memory in the LN, there were actual angels interfering with Tanya, Cherubim, Seraphim and Thrones on Gods behalf. In the Manga there were some other Godly entities from many different religions, I believe Jehovah, Shiva were mentioned. In the anime adaptation they just cut this all out and made it Existence/Being X, which could be God/Angel/Devil/Demon for xy religion or an arch existence higher than any of those.

Yall Might

Reincarnation Isekai > Transport Isekai > Videogame Isekai

Sylanna Maxwell

The problem is to Tanya is that "Being X" has no proof that he is god. His claim is as good as the devil claiming to be god. So a being that is not logical and refuses to entertain reason to Tanya cannot possibly god to her. She acknowledges that "Being X" is powerful, but the entity did not show her that he is the creator.

Skebaba

Also because it prolongs her viability to exist, thus her suffering window is larger than if she got merc'd the moment the war started

Skebaba

Ask yourself this: Would a REAL god be a failure who couldn't manage a single planet?

Lloyd Salisbury

I swear, Y'all need to give a watch to Black Lagoon.

Nikolai Cannady

I guess yall missed that line in the first episode about being a salaryman lol

Still

Its literally illegal to disobey lawful orders in the military. Those guys woulda been kicked out or in jail.

lud_genesis

depending on what the order was they could also be charged with high treason and could be executed on the spot as well as considering the era the show is playing in immediate execution would be more likely

Haruto Yuzuki

Don't forget this is another world, Our laws may not be the same as their Military.

Haruto Yuzuki

Will you guys be reacting to Isekai Quartet after this?

Lupa is Dadi

This nigga Lupa really said 1800's like world war 2 happened back then. 😳

Daniel Borrego

it depends on what god is. is this the god that created all things or is being x a god of one world or even just a god incharge of one thing on one world like aqua from konosuba. and if it is the god who created everything, then depending on the method, god would still have limited control or at least oversight.

beelzebub

It doesn't even seem like this God is the one who created everything. He makes it seem like he just moves souls around.

Don Keedick

Where can I recommend anime for them to react to? Is it their discord?

Daniel Borrego

reincarnation is actually tensei (mushoku tensei), while being transported is isekai.
