14 is a super accurate depiction for the (albeit fictional) time period. Women mostly died during child birth in their early 20s so yeah… gotta start thinking about what type of man you’re leaving the kid(s) with at 14. Too bad Violet was a war child.

I get that Violet and Charlotte's age are realistic for the time, but that doesn't make it right. For stuff like this, I never understood why the characters can't just be aged up to at least 18. They always have to be little kids.

In the anime she's estimated to be 14 but in the light novel she's assumed to be in the later teens. They kept her on the younger side to give her character a more innocent than mature vibe. Also, idk if her age progression throught the series to movies as a Spoiler...but throughout up to the latest movie, she goes from ~14 to 18

One because it works with the time. Look all throughout Europe during that kind of period men and woman married at drastically different ages but they still had an age before it was acceptable (15 mainly) due to mainly it was deemed too dangerous for women to give birth to kids before then. Also not every country is America were the age of consent is 18 a princess at the age of 18 unmarried was not a normal thing so it would just pull out the story to make prudish Americans feel comfortable

Also we shouldn't forget that the age of consent in Japan is 13. So from a Japanese Viewpoint it's even legal. And that is what truelly matters. A lot of western Anime Watchers don't seem to realize that Anime and Manga still are not intended for them as audience. Yeah it is slowly coming. But first and formost Anime still play to Japanese sensibilities

Yep, I do think Japan is trying to up it to 16? (Most common legal age around the world now) but for the setting I’m fairly certain I’ve heard to Europe royals being engaged as they are born so having marriage talks at 10 is not that odd but as I said it’s more a formal engagement and then they actually get married when they reach appropriate ages for the period which is 15

I know people don’t wanna hear it but sometimes you just gotta relax and understand their being true to the times. Right or wrong it isn’t a part of your time and you can’t change how it was even if you disagree back in those days like medival times and such cousins married cousins 10-15 year old for political reasons and even love sometimes got married to ppl 10-15 years older than them but that’s just how the times worked and progress obviously eventually saw it for what it looked like and changed things

exactly. The time doesn't match now but it was like that back then. If people find this disturbing then don't watch or read Game of Thrones, The Characters are younger than they look.

I don't really care about the age of the girl, but there is so much fantasy in this show that isn't "true to the times" that "being true to the times" is not an argument in favor of making the girl 14.

Yanpo, even if Its a fantasy world, its still based culturally off of late 1800's to 1920 Europe. Simple as that.
