Yes, "Gym Storage Shed Event" is what it's called. It's super, super cliche in high school romance stories, especially visual novels and dating sims (it's an "event" you can trigger in Tokimeki-style games, hence where the term comes from). It's been done to death so badly that I don't think modern story can still do it without at least one character going "there's no way that would happen outside of manga" or some other meta-joke.

The reason they keep showing the koi fish is caused koi in Japanese can mean both love and the fish. That's also why when Shirogane touched her cheek the water scene that followed showed her love reaching a high level.
