It's never obvious how bad it really is with shows like this until you watch it with someone else. You can tune out the weirdness when you're alone somehow.

Umbra_Nex

I think you may have missed the explanation on why the king died. Sora was talking about how throughout history, rulers who ruled with fear and oppression almost always tend to get offed by "someone who isnt even part of the combat unit" (ie they get poisoned by servants or killed by close allies, etc)... the chess game was with "living pieces" that represent two kingdoms, so the king broke to pieces because in his "kingdom" he was assassinated by someone who "wasnt even part of the combat unit" (so none of those pieces killed him... he was literally off-screened by a servant so the piece broke xD )

dat_boi

I forgot how much I liked that speech.

FreshxEli Tv

That speech always got me hyped asf like Commander Erwin Hyped

Smash Bran'Discootch

Make sure to look for End Credits scenes in this series. I wanna say its like episode 8, MAKE SURE TO WATCH THE CREDITS also there's a pretty important end credits scene.

Most Sane Oreimo Fan

I just wanna say, after this series, I would recommend watching the movie NGNL:0 it explains how Tet became a god and every little details about the war they were talking about for the position as the One True God. Also, it shows why and how Steph was able to move that time when Tet freezes time itself (iirc, he did freeze it when he was talking to Sora and Shiro)

Smash Bran'Discootch

So wait wait wait...this show is essentially just...one giant race war?? o.o

NecDW4

JRPGs: "Yo, God is a huge asshole, we should fight him!" NGNL: "Yo, God is a bro, we should fight him!"

Ghost_Troupe

I'm waiting for that one JRPG to come out where you and God actually team up for once lol

Qxadd

Tripleflipb

I think its too early to say, the light novel is still ongoing and there was an announcement about the manga last november so we might get a season 2 sooner or later.

ShyGuy
>>76908547

Bro I just realized the Pheonix Wright reference after the chess game. That's so funny

DOWSS4

I hope they check out the movie once they finish the main series.

Not only the Objection, also the music while the comedy scene is playing is a homage to the game series too

LordTouchMe
>>76908118

Yeah, it's too early to say for certain. Hell, The Devil Is A Part Timer is finally getting a season 2 after 10+ years, so I feel there is huge possibility for NGNL

DOWSS4
>>76926994

Yeah it covers events that happen during the big war 6000 or so years before the present. Its called No Game No Life Zero and is well worth a watch

シュモーク

I can explain the chess thing, it's a bit confusing. Basically, since the pieces are sentient and act/behave based on how good of a leader you are, when the command was issued to fight and sacrifice themselves for their king, none of the pieces would actually move, and the king forfeit by default because nobody would follow her anymore. The whole assassin thing was just a nice metaphor to tie it in to what actually happens to real life dictators.

>>76924623

Doesnt the old dude just straight look like the judge too?

PrinceOfHell

I can't wait till they watch the movie and everything just makes 1000 times more sense at the end

PrinceOfHell
>>76974993

Yea there’s a NGNL movie it’s called NGNL zero it’s basically about the war between the 16 races

Roronoa Zoro
>>76967587

I want to add to this. Due to the sentience i believe it literally did happen in the pieces eyes. Cause even though the soldiers were moving the king still dies. I think in their little chess world the king literally was killed by something, that wasn't even a chess piece, due to his oppression like in real life
