This episode is what really got me hooked, because you get to see exactly what's driving Sora, and Shiro to a degree. You get it from the first episode too, but this sets it in. They're too intelligent, and high levels of intelligence can lead to semi-depressant personalities. Sora is upset because he's smart enough to recognize that humans around him aren't acting out of intelligence, but he doesn't think he's bright enough to change societal trajectory. However, he thinks Shiro is TRULY a genius who could revolutionize the world. In his mind, nothing really matters but Shiro, because she's essentially the savior in his eyes.
