I don't feel like they were gaslighting him. Steven seems like a very fragile soul. I think they were just trying to help him, like either he's absent for a long time qnd his goldfish starves, or the personalities can't remember what's what and each end up overfeeding the fish, so they buy a new one to maintain normality. And then getting him a date with a pretty girl. It feels like they're trying to make things better for a man who's already paranoid and neurotic. Like in Dissociative Identity Disorder (multiple personality disorder) each personality (Alter) has a purpose, which is usually to make things easier on the Core Identity

But based on the context it seems the personality Steven is new, probably only a few months old. These personalities are created by Marc to help adapt to situations, so something must of happened to create Steven and give him abnormal control over the body like someone else said.

Don't think they're trying to making dissociative personality disorder a superpower, more like a man who becomes the avatar for a god has to adapt in order to not have his brain melt. It seems for now, the DID is more of a disadvantage, so not really a superpower. And DID is a side effect of his possession.

Maybe that's how the series is gonna treat it, but in the comic book the moon god specifically chose him as its avatar BECAUSE he already struggled with mental illness and DID. The moon god wanted that specifically because someone with multiple personalities can more easily reflect the four aspects of the moon god. Which is exactly making mental illness a superpower. But again, I'm just saying that's why I've always found the character problematic. I find Hisoka problematic too, but I love the shit out of him. So just cause I'm saying I find him problematic doesn't mean I'm saying the show is bad or shouldn't have been made lol

Not sure if this counts as a spoiler or not but if it does you can just bury this comment in hate. Marc/Steven's body isn't being invaded by anything and he isn't being harassed by anything. He has mental illness. To my knowledge, and I could be wrong, he at the very least is schizophrenic and has multiple personalities. It's why a mental illness helpline shows up after the credits, they acknowledge it.

Considering that neither Legion's nor Sentry's superpowers are dependent on their mental illness like Moon Knight's, those examples dont really apply to the conversation. Legion is a Mutant and Sentry's powers came from a serum. The moon god chose Marc to be his avatar **because** of his mental illness. Again, I hope the show treats it better than the comic did.

@Julius I just assumed they were having the moon god speak in the low deep voice and were gonna save the other identity reveal for later. I could ve totally wrong about that though. Cause I know in the comics they confirmed the moon god is an undeniably real force, but Marc's mental illness often causes him to have conversations with a moon God that only exists in his head.

And I should clarify that NeoSpotLite is absolutely correct that the DID was a direct result of the moon god inhabiting his brain, but it's because of his existing mental illness that those identities were created as a coping mechanism.

If you get interested in the comics for this, I'd recommend the 2014-2015 run. Just a bunch of shorter stories, not an entire arc. It doesn't serve as an origin though, more just what kind of person, or persons, he is. So hopefully this series will go into Moon Knight's origin a bit.

It's a white suit and a mask, the Mr. Knight look isn't like that lol. The only wierd thing about the fortune is the odd stitch pattern down the face. In general Moon Knight's face is just covered by a white or black mask with a few artists doing the shadow thing from time to time.

I think the mom is just marc pretending to be her. There were postcards in the earlier scenes that clearly look like they were taken from the museum gift shop. I think Marc is trying to soothe or protect Steven, I mean he even went as far as looking for a new fish when the old one die hoping Steven wouldn't notice. Plus it really look like he was trying to prevent Steven from getting mixed up in whatever he and the Moon deity are trying to do.

Marc seems more like the protective alter given he's a mercenary. There's likely another personality within him that's more of a soothing, parental alter who's been taking care of him

Im pretty sure his mom was brutally murdered (probably in front of him). He's getting postcards and leaving voicemails because he keeps "missing" her calls. The fact that he has Dissociative Identity Disorder means he experienced some severe trauma in the past and his other personalities shielded him from it. Could be why they put everything back and replaced his fish.
