So for context of timing. At this point in the series they are about half-way if not past half-way through their second year. Because of when Japanese schools start school and when America starts school Shirogane would have to leave in the middle of his third year (last year for Japanese High schools). So time is actually ticking. And thats why there are clocks in the intro.

In terms of story no where near close. If they decide to fully adapt the series we have a solid 2-3 seasons left of story. (at 12 episodes per season and the pace they go with the adaptation)

This might as well be the last season. After this, the series moves away from comedy and into drawn-out soap opera drama. Then a year after that, the author starts writing a second series that he puts most of his effort into and just keeps Kaguya around on life support because it makes money. Think the post-L chapters of Death Note or those last couple arcs of FotNS that nobody remembers.

I loved all the latest arcs save for the last one. I wasn't a fan of the drama. I didn't dislike it though. Now that we're out of the woods I think the manga will start to pick up again.

On the note of the innocent people going to jail joke, I think it was political commentary/ satire from the author. In Japan there is a > 99% conviction rate and it's pretty problematic. The courts are so willing to admit they are wrong they've even refused to overturn convictions when there is overwhelming evidence that the person was guilty.
