If any of yall can answer my two questions in the post discussion that would be great lol

Comments

Sayyongtou

i just remember that they hadn't reacted to season 3. season 3 was a great season

EZ

Can't wait for y'all's Kenobi reaction

Lyon

I enjoyed the first season a lot but the first episode of s2 didn't grip me so I haven't been watching. Does it get Better or is it worth the watch anyone whose been watching?

Musa

Well they did it differently from the manga which im not the biggest fan of as well. Imo the manga did it better easily. But yea the story that I've been reading has been good. Currently I'm unsure what the anime is going to do because they sorta took s2 story & did their own thing which obviously isn't up to par so I would suggest reading the turtle & this current arc for yourself and make your own judgement if you want to continue

Cedric Worthy

After episode 4 or 5 I think is when the show got good again. Not great, but definitely not bad like the first few eps.

Creepy Killer

So first to answer roshi question she was manipulated to think that they explained it in the manga but just like everything else the anime skipped over or tried to change that as well

Creepy Killer

Now a simple rant they just did season 2 for this anime completely dirty, Poor quality in the first half then completely derailing from the manga and changing the story making it worse and not better. Truly a shame how they butchered my boy and this show i recommend anyone who wants to keep up with and continue this show to read the manga and to stay away from the anime from here on. Season 1 was peak 😒

Emerys

I’m pretty sure there still is another episode left. That’s at least what I’ve been seeing online

vork88

i think kyou created her and gave her false memories

Dark Shogun

Unlike the Cardinal Heroes, the Vassal Heroes aren't summoned. I think Kyo was reincarnated into the work Glass and them live in and not summoned. So he grew up there and probably kept his memories from when he lived in Japan or wherever.

StorySmith []

So anyone why the fuck does one world got 8 hero while the other only has 4? Shield, sword, spear, bow, vs scythe, gem, fan, hunter, katana?, book?, boat?, and now mirror? Wonder why that’s a thing

whimhammer242

Overall Season 2 was very rushed and they cut certain important parts from the LN and added other parts which is why it seemed confusing at times to both anime only and the LN readers. So with Kyo, yes they skipped over the manipulation in the anime. Second, Raphtalia's Katana is a Vassal weapon, but in this case it does carry over, but not sure if the anime will make that clear. Third, with why Naofumi didn't do much this season, this arc in the story was supposed to show how Naofumi learns to rely on others and how he builds meaningful relationships with those around him. However with how they adapted this season and pieces they moved around, there was not a lot of time/focus on the characters, and that's why the interactions feel weird all around. Hope this helps

Musa

So in conclusion Roshi creepy killer mentioned above, she was manipulated to think that(cut content). Also it's said that Raphtalia keeps the katana vassal weapon. Just my guess but I don't think stats transfer over, Larc and Therese was seen at that bonus exp island in s1 so im assuming they restarted as well and needed to gain lvls but obviously Larc retained his abilities. The anime s2 was a flop imo. Quality drop compared to s1. Fd over the great story from the manga, made their own story up and cut out alot of good shit. Even if some parts seemed ok its definitely worse from the source material and its not close. I'd bet money if you read this arc in the manga you'll agree with me and others. Chapter 63-88 is the other world arc. Wouldn't take long at all to speed through it if you so wish but I 100% believe you'd much prefer the manga version of this arc easily

Musa

Naofumi's world also has vassal heroes. I won't spoil what they are. But both worlds have 4 cardinal and then 8 vassal

StorySmith []

That’s a detail so interesting it makes me want to read the original source material

God Mage KI

It was briefly mentioned early on in this season in the spirit tortoise meeting, but easy to miss/forget about I guess.

God Mage KI

Kyo/Kyou is a reincarnated person, not a transferred person like Naofumi. So think of Rudi from Jobless Reincarnation. Transferred people have cardinal weapons, Kyo had a vassal weapon.

DevilMayCarter

I think whether you rock with the show or never really thought much of it to begin with, this season shows how important adaptation is relative to storytelling. Yes, anime-only(s) exist and they matter too but even they would agree that this season suffered from pacing issues. It's not God of High School level but still. There's still enough with these characters to get things back on track. I hope you guys will still stick with the show after the hiatus, but I would understand if you (or anyone else) didn't want to.

Roger Metheny

man i dropped this season 10 minutes into episode 1. it just felt like everything was off and i could see the writing on the wall that it wasnt getting better. i hope im wrong and they turn it around but yeah as an anime only its dissapointing

HaruhiDream

To answer you first question Raphtlias status did not get reset. The vassal weapons have seperate statuses and need to be individually leveled in each world. They can only use the strength they gather in other worlds during a wave. This is why Naofumis group was so weak when they came to Kizunas world and also why Raphtalia was reverted to a child. Her growth is tied to her level. Your second question was about Kyo. You might have missed it but it showed that he died before he became a hero so he did in fact grow up in that world. The fact that he died before his soul was reincarnated is important and it will come up more of the series continues. Saying anymore would be spoilers.

kuroihana

S2 gets better after about 5 or 6 episodes. It's still rushed and a lot of stuff has been cut or changed completely, but going off the novels the general plot is still there. If they step up their game for next season we might get that S1 hype back

Chris Tercero

Still 1 more episode . It’s listed for 13. Unless 13 will be some bad fan service filler episode

Jamar Arrington

From my understanding, Kyo died in his original world, but his soul was able to reincarnate in the other world

AJJAMES123 156

you could see it when they showed Raphtalia she still had the katana so im assuming that she lost the status as a vassel hero but kept the weapon

Coatl45

This is why I stress the importance of wording and context in genres. Naofumi was isekaied, transported bodily into another world. He did not grow up in that world. Kyo was tensuraed, he died and somehow retained his memories of his last life. He was born and raised in the other world. Isekai became a blanket term for moving from one world to another. It even somehow got applied to shows that are in no way isekai, like Sword Art Online. No, those aren’t other worlds. They’re computer games. Just because the AIs are advanced enough to be people, doesn’t make it an entirely different world.

Haruto Yuzuki

I recommend you reading the LNs Vol 22 just got released I think so you got plenty to catch up on

The Endless

Okay y’all so if y’all can clear up which one it is bc some ppl are saying he was reborn with his memories and other said that he manipulated her, so idk which one it is😭😭 also why do y’all come to these comment sections if y’all hated s2 so much, a lot of us enjoyed it so it really don’t make sense why y’all are here just to say how bad it was to you😭😭 juss sayin

Guns

This show turned from the goat to trash real quick

Roman.San

I’m still trying to figure out why they cut Naofumi gaining the Mirror Vassal form the show all together

Prisoner5580

Man this season fucked my brain up, I’m a huge fan of Shield Hero, loved season 1 ended up reading the whole manga and likely will pick up the LN’s too. I started my sub to your Patreon because I loved your reactions to S1, ended up staying because I really enjoy your banter and chemistry. Still really enjoyed parts of S2 and I didn’t dislike it as a whole as much as I think most people did. They just kept cutting things and rearranging them, we never got to see Kyo’s curse series or the actual battle between Naofumi and him. They gassed him up and then left him dry quick. Hopefully you guys stick it out for Season 3 but honestly with how badly S2 was received I feel like it’s not far from a cancellation. It pisses me off how little care Kinema Citrus/Dr Movie or whoever managed the adaptation had for S2. As someone who loves the story past S1 even, I really wanna see the later story adapted, but now who can trust that they will even do that much right?

Nick

What happened in the LN? It did show him using it for the fight against Kyo and then it disappeared, does he keep it in the LN?

GermyRTZ

Season 2 was a low priority project, the studio "sacrificed" this anime to make the Revue starlight movie and the next season of made in abyss. Those two where the focus of the studio.

Vino66

Season 2 definitely had its ups and downs, but I'm still interested what they'll do with the next season. My two main concerns for this season were the animation and the 'breathing' of the episodes. First, I'd actually argue the art was better this season than the last, but the movement of the characters and surroundings were a little janky at times. Second, by 'breathing' I refer to the fact they didn't give a full 24-26 episodes for this season. It's clear that if they gave themselves the same room as Season 1 the plot and characters would've felt more fleshed out. I still cried at a couple of scenes though. This show really knows how to tap into some basic, raw emotions.

HaruhiDream

I think they are confused. It helps him in the fight against Kyo but then it goes away to look for a new holder. It isn't until much later that it actually chooses Naofumi.

Vino66

Does anyone know why they only produced a half season? Even with Covid-19 and policies for it, I still think it's weird we only got this much after 3 years of waiting.

Roman.San

In the LN the mirror and book Vassals both try to bond to Naofumi, with the mirror being successful and the book vassal going to the boat hero

Rafael

Don't know about y'll guys, but I enjoyed the ride

Skebaba

Anime skipped it AFAIK, but every Cardinal Hero except Naofumi is pepsi

Skebaba

She accepted the words, cuz she knows that they are based on Reality, because while the Sin Series fucks w/ your emotions, it basically just amplifies shit you already have, so while he's saying this shit, she knows that they are based on some tiny amounts of negative feelings towards her, amplified by the raging dragon dude inside the Shield, doesn't mean they aren't technically showing what Naofumi thinks of her on base level, just that it's even more amplified than what he feels in reality

Skebaba

SAO was based on semantics. One might argue that Virtual Worlds of sufficient "realism" ARE other worlds (in fact SAO's main theme is basically the "philosophical" question of "are virtual & physical reality different from one another on base level or not? Or are they indistinguishable after a certain singularity point of realism?" Most notably this was shown w/ Underworld arc, which is as real as it can get despite being VR, since for all we know, we might be inside a Simulation too, who knows at this point)

Lucifers Dog

Ok so to answer your questions yes Raphtalia is still a hero. This is a kind of spoiler kind of not but Kyo is what they call a reincarnate basically somebody reborn in the world with all their memories.

Kisuke01

After reading the comments this Season just reminded me of what happened with the Anime adaptation of Classroom of the elite

LiquidXGravity

Why was this season only 13 episodes?

Kami_Psy

12-13 eps is actually a typical full lengthed season. I do wish it was another 24-25 eps like last season after the long wait, but it's not out of the ordinary to end here

slipHAZARD

Goat? Seriously? You think S1 of Shield Hero was goat? Seriously? Like.... What?

TimmSchmimm

I think the beginning of season 1 was insane, in the isekai genre it was peak isekai for me but after like the half it was just good and moved from like a 9/10 to a 7/10 for me, it was still a show thats worth watching etc. but this season was so meh. Like it's not even mid I actually regret watching these episodes because it felt a bit like time waste eventough with roshi sheera and lupa pretty much everything is fun to watch but if I would've watched s2 on my own I would drop it within 2 miliseconds. Kinda sad shield hero "ended" this way not as tragic as promised neverland s2 but still just disappointing especially as LN readers tell us it's mainly the anime adaptation.

Johann47

Am I the only one who felt like this season was completely "meh"?

Mari

Your not, it was good, but it wasn’t as good as season 1

Luke S

You're not at all. This show use to be a go-to every release day. Now I only watch when there's nothing else to watch.

Ohais

No, this season was hella meh. The pacing at the start was pretty bad as they just tried to quickly skip through the Spirit Tortoise arc. This season was pretty short and they just tried to squeeze it all in. I wish it had been a 25 episode season like that last so they could actually pace it better and establish proper connections to the new characters. I do think they've leaned into the game mechanic idea a little too much this season too, which just makes it feel a little weird, for me at least. Also, I just dislike the slave thing overall, so I am glad that Kyou mentioned it being a bad thing, so maybe that might mean going forward with Naofumi being better and rejecting the Wrath shield, the slave crests might be removed

Reckless Company

Lupa had me dying " I made a mistake" and with " that Nigga be in the comments" lol

Young Faygo

they knew this arc was slow, thats prolly why they announced s2 and 3 at the same time

mothercookie

she is a hero as well as the book hero( mostly some ish was said or done in the mange/LN) She even said when fighting the zombie vessel "i too can hear the mirror calling too" they both mostly came at the same time to the new world but grown up poor as kids. and Raphtalial is a vessel hold just like the other and does keep that power. the sword is the one is got from there you can check the vid. (if you didn't caught that from doing the edit already.)

Tyler

Damn. I completely clocked out of this season half way through episode 1 and coming back to see the comments on the final episode it sounds like I made the right read.

Yahroh

Raphtalia probably going to have multiple swords.

BZD

Man. Why do they have to ruin all of these epic Naofumi rage moments. Just let the man be angry. First Rishia took the wind out of his sails and then Ost.

Blackbulls6

I guess they’re going the light novel route because this shit didn’t happen like that in the manga

Coatl45

Y’know, you’re the first person to actually respond to what I said about SAO with an actual reason beyond “It doesn’t happen in our world, so of course it’s isekai”. Very refreshing. I can’t tell you how grateful I am. Now, as for what you said, I am beginning to understand why it’s considered other worlds. It seems like it originally comes from the question and fear of if we’re actually in the Matrix. I honestly never considered that. Interesting premise. Unfortunately, I’m still probably not going to watch it. That actually stems back from the first season of SAO. Kirito beat the guy who trapped thousands of people in the game, he asks why the mad scientist did it, and the answer was “I forgot”? I can usually put up with some pretty blatant plot holes and writing slip ups, but having the whole first arc’s cause and all that death wrote off like that infuriated me so much that I dropped the show and haven’t even thought about picking it back up. The reason the bad guys do something can’t be thrown away like that. I just can’t get with that author.

GermyRTZ

A pretty famous anime in Japan, the movie is fucking incredible, it's the movie with the largest invest in the music production right now, it literally was 5 months in theaters in japan because of popularity, and this studio made it.

ALEWUANGO

The anime doesn’t follow the manga because that’s not the main source material which is why it’s different. It follows the LN which is why it seemed different for you though I’m pretty sure they still missed out on details and skipped some stuff because this season was rushed and just poorly done compared to the first

Creepy Killer

Oh Didn't know that i can only speak from a manga perspective i haven't read the ligh novels i can only imagine what the light novel reader's are going through rn with this season
