If you remember a couple episodes ago when vanitas called out the name luna in gévaudan, the vampire of the blue moon is who he was referring to. Also luna is "father" to mikhail, and "mother" to vanitas because that's how they view luna. In the manga it's explained that luna is neither male nor female and so the boys simply view them as being a mother/father figure.

tbf I believe Luna is intended to be genderless while in HxH the implication is that Alluka is a transgirl and that their family, outside of Killua, still calls her a boy is just another indication of how absolutely trash they are

I feel for everyone in this show. All the main characters have so much trauma XD I’m exited for the last two, to see what your predictions are for the story going forward and people’s theories in the comments, I have a few myself. It is torture that the show is pretty much up to date with the manga except maybe 3-4 chapters.

dont listen to the other comments who dont know Luna is genderless its just not explained in the show. She has nothing down there so one of them calls luna father and one monther to make up for the parent they are missing ( mikhail had a mother doesnt know his father and vanitas had a father but doesnt know his mother )

I find it very sus that Moreau had Vanitas' blood and both his books to experiment on for.... a pretty long time? Since he had experimented on 71 children and presumably he experimented on each one of them until they died, other than 69 and 71 who went to the final stage of the experiment.. but got magically rescued by Vanitas.... I feel like the book itself summoned Vanitas...? He/She seems quite strong, so it doesn't make sense that she lost both her books and her blood for a long time and then comes to take the books back and destroy the facility at the exact moment the 2 kids were supposed to successfully link up with the book and be able to use it. ~ Just a theory, pretty cool to think about.

Misha calls the Vampire of the Blue Moon Father because he never had one so he wanted a father and called them such. I'm pretty sure the Vampire of the Blue Moon is meant to be androgynous so they had no issue with being called Father

I understand the confusion about they're gender considering they call them father but they're coded to be female. Since the Japanese neutral pronoun is masculine, I'd say that they would be an NB person and thus "they" is the appropriate pronoun. It's seems to me the mangaka intended that to be the case even.

First off, yes, the Vampire of the Blue Moon aka Luna is genderless. They didn't explain it in the anime, but it's said in the manga. Misha calling them father and Vanitas seeing a woman is based on how each individual views them. Second, Vanitas thinking Misha was dead is related to the fact that they've been talking about the fact that Vanitas killed the Vampire of the Blue Moon for some reason. Also a big hint is because of the fact that he couldn't find Misha this entire time and seeing that Misha has a robotic hand now. Lastly, no the turning of the both of them into members of the Blue Moon Clan wouldn't kill Luna. That was just a last resort move that they didn't want to resort to. Luna's been the only member of the Blue Moon Clan since the beginning as far as we know and we see that they've been exiled, so it's possible that they just don't want Vanitas and Misha to go through all that. Side note: Notice how they always say "The one that calls himself Vanitas". Even in the manga, we still don't know this man's real name lmao

Idk for shure is Vanita (vampire) is genderless o not but its not important, I think Mikhail called him/her "father" because as you remember he knows his mother so it was more of calling vanitas "father" because he can't call her her mother (because he knows/remembers his own mother!)

I would HIGHLY recommend Spice and Wolf as another Duo reaction to add to the poll. It's a romance anime with solidly developed characters and a compelling story with a mix of some economic stuff (MC is a merchant, so yeah). yeah, Vampire of the Blue Moon states that they are neither male nor female in Mémoire 51, which is exactly non-binary.

Vanitas is actually a canon non binary,they don't care wich pronouns you use for them. Mikhail calls them "father" because he never had a father figure in his life with his mother being a prostitute and never settling down. For Vanitas (the human) he uses she/her pronouns since even if he doesn't call them "mother" he never had a mother figure in his life with her dying giving birth to him. It's actually a very sweet but also a very sad detail when you think about it.
