I think they were close but not quite right; when he used his last incinerator shot, he didn't shut down forever, he just loses his memories - and maybe can't fire it anymore either, but we wouldn't know because Riko charged him up before he even got to try again. That's what I think anyway

Based on what was said in the episode my guess is the incinerator has something to do with the memory loss.

one thing i really like about this arc is that riko and crew are really not in control at all. The abyss and its conflicts are now more powerful than rikos group. They are getting tricked, manhandled, and thrown around. Struggling to keep their heads above water, let alone enforce their will. They barley came out on top regarding bonedrewd, not even really fully beating him and even that was not without loss. Makes me really curious to know what kinda crazy ass shit is at the bottom and what the F is up with lyza down there if shes even alive.

I think it's implied in this episode that when he fired the incinerator in episode 1 it caused him to lose his memories. He says in this episode "I don't know what will happen if I fire it again".

he forgot because riko sent that electric current through him to try and wak him up in the first episode they wont reveal how later on because it was actually revealed in the first episode

you missed out on the info that using the incinerator too much causes reg to forget the past. he said he cant use it because he doesnt know what will happen after. later he saved riko with that ability and so he forgot everything

He lost his memory either because of 1) Riki hitting him with the MAX voltage Electric Chair Ep 1 or because he was forced to use the Incinerator to save her Ep 1, he aludes to that being the real reason this ep when he talks about why he can’t use the Incinerator to help her, seems like more at stake than just 2 hrs of down time like he has now, and we do know there was a limit to how many he had. Maybe if you go over it’s like a factory reset lol

anime only here but my guess is that when he met Faputa he only had one shot left of his Incinerator. before getting the white whistle he had a limited number of shots, but then after ascending he used his last shot to save Riko (the first time he met her) and thus used up all his battery and lost his memories.

yeah it's like they hint at, multiple times this episode. He only had one incinerator shot left and upon using it to save riko in episode 1 erased his memories

I am not mad asf for no reason and I am not just simply directing it to the original comment. I only am watching a couple of reactions series from them and the few comment sections I see their is comments demanding or telling them to react to the JJK movie. Its not as if they aren't already having to handle multiple reactions right now and catch up for things before they have to react to a jam packed anime schedule this fall which is right around the corner. Its a mainstream anime. They will get to it at some point soon.

they also say it a few times in season 1 but they watched that years ago. and its not exactly firing the last shot that made him lose his memory. it drained the rest of his power. it was rikos electric overcharge that caused him to lose his memories. she set the power way too high and fried them lol.

I think it's kinda that, the final shot exhausted all of his power and when he was rebooted he had forgotten everything. Not necessarily cuz the high voltage but just cuz he himself was reset, Even if less electricity was used to wake him up he still wouldv'e forgotten

I have a theory on how Reg lost his memory. -We saw in Dawn of the Deep Soul that Reg's Incinerator and by extension Reg himself has a limited number of shots. Nananchi said that when that countdown expires then the relic becomes unusable. -We saw in the memory that Reg couldn't use his Incinerator to help Faputa because "he didnt know what would happen if he did". This to me implies that Reg only had 1 shot left at this time. -When Reg met Riko in episode 1 he used his last shot to save Riko's life(probably b/c Riko is the Haku he was sent to find) -Since that was his last shot he shutdown completely- the kids only managed to revive him with a ton of electricity. We saw that this is possible b/c again in Dawn of the Deep Soul the electricity allowed him to spam the incinerator and he had extra shots (he went from 3 to 10 if i remember correctly). We also see that electricity itself wipes his memory albeit temporarily. -TLDR- Reg used his last shot to save Riko causing him to shut down. That combined with the electricity they used to revive him causing memory loss is why he seems to have permanently forgotten quite a bit of his prior life.

yeah him using the last incinerator caused him to shut down and riko using electricty to wake him up rebooted his system. It's not a theory that's what happened.

I really dislike the electric overcharge theory. Nat was the one who said that and people keep falling for it. Even when it was explicitly noted that Reg had only one shot left when he saved Riko in episode 1, people still keep banging on that dumb overcharge theory.

if you play the game, made in abyss binary star, when going thru the story again, shiggy strongly implies reg lost his memory due to the extreme electric current. riko turns the power up to 20.

Like lupa was saying about reg putting his feelings onto others. My personal head cannon is that the reason why reg likes touching nanachi is bc her fluffynees subconsciously reminded him of faputa. Thats why he gets bricked up when touching her
