0 time wasted clickin this sheesh

Charlie baker

Its important to remember that the show is based off Critical Roles 1st DnD campaign ,so stuff like character deaths or character mistakes/failures are the result of bad rolls(them struggling with that door in s1 for example) not just narrative choices a writer has made

Erik Miller

“They intentionally made him like Kratos for no reason” Actually, Grog’s beard predates GOW 2018 by several years so if anything, Kratos was copying Grog

Andrew W

Funny thing is the character design for Grog, including the beard that he grew from a magical item, came before Kratos got a beard in the first Norse GoW.

Jason McKay

Hell yea, with the big announcement I can officially say we’re living in the Critical Role era, and I’m glad reactors like y’all can experience it

bandi138138

Not really a spoiler, but a lesson in DnD: once a character dies in DnD, the players just make new characters to join the party. Food for thought going forward ;)

EMTpromises

For context why Vax was getting pissed everyone kept touching things Vaxildahn is a rogue with insanely high trap detection stats like a +13 or something with Expertise meaning he can’t get below 23 on it which is gross but yeah some classes have specializations like that aaaaaand they would’ve know that was a trap if vax was there.

Kingmakaii

Bro WTF WAS THAT ENDING 😭

Jamal Cheatham

Fun fact: in the first CR campaign Laura Bailey (Vex’halia’s PC) rolled a Nat 1 to save against that trap and Percy saved. She took too much damage and as part of the trap died outright.

EMTpromises

Also not a spoiler but for this trap it was a death fog in the show Percy succeeded his saving throw for it and Vex rolled a natural 1 or something so it definitely from that moment looked like Percy was big reason it happened and man even in the show it was rough

Smash Bran'Discootch

-Soooo the belt that Grog got is called The Belt Of Dwarvenkind. It lets you instantly speak dwarvish, increases your constitution, and every day at dawn you have chance of growing a beard. In the Campaign it was a huge deal because Goliaths are normally hairless. So it took seeeeevvvveeerrral rolls from Travis that finally culminated in a luxurious beard. Then Vax shaved half of it off while Grog was sleeping 😂😂 Travis was so mad he broke a mechanical pencil. -All of them laughing at Purvan's name was taken almost word for word from the livestream. He said the name and they INSTANTLY started laughing. So when you're a dungeon master and you're making up tons of fantasy names, some of them inevitably look fine on paper but sound ridiculous when said out loud. -The Raven Queen(The Matron Of Ravens) is a Goddess who was once mortal but ascended to divinity. Because of reasons, her domain is more fate and the actual moment of transition between life and death. She's nor evil in the least, just a part of life. She LOATHES the undead. -To Roshi's "They'd never kill off a main character in a show like this" remember bro, THIS IS A RETELLING OF A DND CAMPAIGN. Literally anyone could die at any moment. -Vax and Vex's dad is just a racist. Plain and simple. They're half elves, their mother was human. That's why their father called them "diluted" and said they weren't born to Elven Tradition. As you can see, they both have very different reactions to his treatment of them. Their mother, as it was revealed in season 1, was killed by a dragon. -Nah, that wasn't an intentional "They made him look like Kratos" thing. There's been fan art of Grog with a full beard WAAAAAY longer than the God Of War ps4 game ever came out. -Aaaaaand of course they spoiled the name of Craven Edge in the subtitles just like they did with Orthax smdh -The voice acting is of course TOP NOTCH! Liam Obrien is just so amazing at conveying emotion. This is really showing off Vax's sensitive side. He's probably the most sentimental out of anyone in the group. -The events in the tomb played out almost EXACTLY from the original campaign, even some of the lines being exactly the same. "I was only gone for 30 seconds, what the hell happened?" -Essentially the mechanics of what happened there was everyone in the radius of the sarcophagus had to make a dexterity saving throw or take 57 points of necrotic damage. If that damage reduced you to zero hit points, it instantly killed you with no saving throws. Percy made his dex saving throw but Vex and Trinket didn't. Trinket wasn't reduced to zero HP so he wad fine, but Vex was reduced to zero HP. Bruh, that's how DnD be. Sometimes you literally just DIE. -Gaaaaaah that "Do not go far from me" gets me every time. -I'm sure Percy is gonna be fiiiiiiiiine. Toooootally fine. It's not like he deals with constant guilt and/or self-loathing or anything already, so yeah he'll probably be just fine XD Man if any member of Vox Machina needed some good ol' fashioned therapy, it's Percy. GUYS Critical Role just signed a multi year deal with Amazon. They have just announced THE MIGHTY NEIN(Critical Role's second campaign, same players but different characters in the same world)IS ALSO GETTING AN ANIMATED SERIES! Titmouse(the studio doing this) is listed as Executive Producer so they're most likely handling this series as well! So what I'm saying is if you enjoy The Legend Of Vox Machina, get ready cause we're getting A WHOLE LOT MORE!

Saint Nexus

That Vex pack is hitting! Was smoking it as soon as the first flashback, and didn't even know it 😂

Smash Bran'Discootch

This show is a retelling of Critical Role's DnD campaign. They're an actual play livestream dnd group made up of a group of voice actors who decided to take their home game and turn it into a stream on twitch. They have been streaming for 8 years now and are on their 3rd campaign. You can check them out on their YouTube.

bandi138138

Critical Role is a show where a group of professional voice actors played Dungeons and Dragon. They used the game to tell their own story and it became very popular, contributing to the resurgence of DnD’s popularity. In 2019, they had the idea to adapt the story into an animated show, and went to different studios to pitch the idea, but no one was interested. So they decided to start a kickstarter, which went on to become the most successful kickstarter for a Series/Movie. That got attentions of the studios, and Amazon picked them up under the condition that they would fund season 2. After season 1 became a hit, they went on to fund season 3 as well. They also just announced yesterday that Amazon signed a multi year deal for more series and a movie. The next project is going to be The Mighty Nein, the second campaign after the story of Vox Machina ended.

VVenture

FWIW Critical Role just announced that another one of their campaigns is getting an animated series (The Mighty Nein) so looks like we’re getting even more from this universe. I’m pretty stoked ngl

Rocksolo

Sheera why do you Automatically think that they just going say Percy did it 😂😂😂

bandi138138

Also Goliaths, grey skinned half giants with tattoos across their bodies, became a playable race in DnD before the original God of War.

EMTpromises

Yea I believe it was something like because of the necrotic damage reducing her maximum hp past her threshold she was just at 0 nothing bringin that back up

Alorian

So the reason it missed Percy was because in the campaign, him and vex had to roll to see if the magic affected them. He was the only one who rolled high enough to avoid the damage, vex was not so lucky.

bandi138138

Vex rolled a natural 1 on the trap. The trap was designed for instant death if it brought your HP to 0, with no death saving throw. Percy’s about to get MORE guilt and self-loathing.

Bria A.

CR is the Dungeons & Dragons play group that this show is based off of. TLOVM is specifically their first campaign, and we just found out a new show got greenlit for their second campaign. Started as a home game for Liam (Vax)’s birthday, got picked up by a minor content platform, got insanely popular and then established their own business.

EMTpromises

Me knowing what’s gonna happen in the sunken tomb: “I’ve seen this I won’t cry” Vax: “….you don’t need me…..I need-“ Me: “FUCK😭”

Kingmakaii

If I was vex I would of went off I TOLD YALL NIGGAS STOP TOUCHING STUFF 😭

Josiah Koron

a cool note for you guys is the reason the magic that hits vex didnt hit percy is because in the actual campaign percy's player rolled like a perfect 21 to dodge it while vex's player rolled a 1

EMTpromises

Being there for that Kickstarter hitting 11million dollars from the community itself was such a testament to how powerful some communities can be for things they really care about

Coatl45

In short, Vax’s trap detection skill was going off like a klaxon as soon as he entered that room, and it was warning him that literally EVERYTHING in that room was rigged. Death gods do not play around with their possessions.

EMTpromises

Max HP reduced to 0 man even if you heal them 70hp on a 6th level heal that’s still 0 :ccc If I was Vax I’d lose my shit too lowkey

Erik Miller

Not always. It’s up to the dice, DM, and player. If the player wants a new character, that’s fine. If the DM isn’t allowing that character to be resurrected that’s fine, albeit questionable if not discussed prior. Then there’s the resurrection itself, which in CR, goes by a set of homebrew rules made by Matt Mercer.

Zach

It’s reliable talent that lets you roll only 10 and above.

Ruin

Vex got hit with a whole Avada Kedavra trap. Damn...

EMTpromises

Yea I saw that after the fact LOL Expertisex2 prof 4x2=8 Dex 20=5 Reliable talent (all expertise skills treated as 10 or higher) +13 my b bad dnd player xD

Coatl45

In the flashback, Vex accused Vax of deciding what she needed, like he was trying to control her. He really was being literal. She doesn’t need their father, she didn’t need that place, and, in the wilderness, she doesn’t need Vax.

Smash Bran'Discootch

Well...yeah, but i wasn't going to say that in case they do end up keeping that. We've got no idea what's going to be a spoiler yet, so i'm trying to be circumspect...

Zach

Twins instantly knew who he was in the original campaign, don’t see a point in delaying their “revelation” but if you think it’s a spoiler I’ll delete it.

Smash Bran'Discootch

I totally see where you are coming from and I appreciate you. I just rewatched the Chroma Conclave arc in preparation for this and thats something that they only made the connection with later in the arc then they are now when they got more information from an ally of theirs. I cant really say anything more without definitely spoiling something. I apologize if i sounded rude and i appreciate you being a good sport about it.

Panda

It wasn't fog, it might have been for rolling/mechanical reasons but matt described it as a burst of pure death.

EMTpromises

Ye it was like some death energy I believe and I think the damage was around 60 or something but if you went below 0 you died and if you saved you took no damage Note: all or nothing damage is so fun to DM lmao

$am

Just to ask, anyone feel free to answer, Vex and Vax are half human right? Cuz I got a bit confused at Sheera's comment about diluted elven heritage

Sam

Welp, that's what a Nat 1 gets ya. Great ep/reaction, cheers!

Tug

god episode 4 is gonna go so hard cant wait to see *spoiler* fking lets gooo

Tug

travis breaking the mechanical pencil was so top tier hahaha travis and liam rivalry though out the whole campaign was so fun

Zach

I must be misremembering then because I thought they made the connection talking with Allura in the basement with the gold githyenki skull? Mind reminding me?

SupremeCai

SO FUCKING HYPEEEEE although I love C1 and C3, C2 (Mighty Nein) was probably my favorite campaign so far. Can't wait for it to be animated

Smash Bran'Discootch

Actually bro you're totally right. In the placement of the show you're absolutely right about when that happened. I was the one misremembering. There is still a chance though that it'll be a reveal in the show. And if I'm wrong and it ends up not being a thing, I will gladly take my clappening and look around for a big red nose.

Smash Bran'Discootch

For any excited Critters, Episodes 4, 5 and 6 dropped about an hour ago. They're up now.

StorySmith []

So fun fact I’m dungeon and dragon lore grog’s race is called a Goliath and his species is know for being hairless half giants. So he’s kinda the only one of his race that has EVER had hair (thanks to this belt.)

BlondeSpud

So a fun fact when Percy touched the ward that guy passed the saving throw along with the bear so they barely missed it and vex player failed

Kevon, The Lord of Slimes

Vax as the rouge who sneaks around and is a bit overprotective of people, but is also his job to check for dangerous traps and be the first in the line of danger...so trying to protect people who constantly set off traps is frustrating. Of course you also saw him last season other than when percy pointed a gun at him be fairly carefree, comedically so in fact

Jazmyne Mattucci

bru knowing this was a DnD session, can you imagine how that roll went live? like idk much on DnD but i do know them rolls can be rough and this feels like it was one of those situations.

Core

Yeeeah they call rolls like these “Save or Suck”s. There’s no middle ground, no half damage, no poison or any condition. just roll high or get fucked. These don’t get used too often at most tables but when they do it’s scary hours for sure.

rickie woodson

i really wanna know what show roshi is comparing this to? cause the only one i can compare it to is game of thrones and they definitely kill main characters there. all i know is that his is based off a role playing game very similar to D&D and main characters die there too. just read the hit comic series DIE and see it for yourself.

Dannyboy

Don't know if anyone mentioned it already, but Grog getting the beard and looking like Kratos is a massive fucking coincidence. I'm pretty sure when Grog got his beard in the livestream it was around 2016, two whole years before we got Kratos with the beard

Isaac

Guys, remember. The events here are based on an actual game session with actual rolls. So nonsense stuff happening is probably the result of a shit roll or a good roll. Don't need to think about the logic beyond that.

Mad4Life

I'm curious to know how Roshi would prefer these episodes to end cause aint no way you was expecting more things to happen after a major death like that.

Lurkingposter

The campaign was based on the DnD 5th edition rule set. They started in the Pathfinder 1E ruleset but when they started streaming the show they switched to DnD 5e. Percy's Gunslinger class was from Pathfinder and converted to the DnD 5e ruleset by Matt Mercer.

Godrick

i love that dude called the druid "earth, wind, & fire" because it implies there's a fantasy version of "September" somewhere in this world

Mythic.Rob

For anyone who doesn't know; this is based on a D&D live play show (almost scene for scene). Because Roshi and Sheera keep mentioning it, I thought I would explain Grog's "antics". The average intelligence in D&D is a score of 10. Grog's is a 6. Grog is effectively 60% as smart as a normal person. So when he pushed the trip stone instead of going around it is because he 100% thought that it was the best course of action.

Mythic.Rob

While no release date has been confirmed yet; the 2nd campaign from the Critical Role team has been confirmed by Amazon to be getting a Prime series and possibly a movie deal. When "The Mighty Nein" comes out, you guys should absolutely watch it too!

Tommy G

It because there half-blood is the reason he said diluted

Fablee

Episode 4,5 and 6 is just on another level... Dam.

Smash Bran'Discootch

No prob fam. Yooooo they were FIIIIIIRE! And thats all i'm gonna say about that til they drop the reactions next week lol

Chuzo

Fun fact grog had a beard before kratos because remember this is all based off of critical role which was way before god of war 4 and his og design is just him with a beard

Smash Bran'Discootch

Yo Laura(vex) started laughing but you could tell it was a shocked laughter. Liam(Vax) took it harder than she did. They're all suuuuuuper close in real life. Laura and Liam share a birthday which is why they decided to make their characters twins and you can tell by their interactions with eachother that he really does think of her as a sister. If you're ever curious and have some time, i really reccommend checking out the dnd campaign. It's also available in podcast on audible.

Teyon Alexander

Kratos has always had a beard….it just didn’t connect. :) he was running around with a chin strap.

The GoDKing 27

That’s exactly what they get for not listening to vax.

Gmac paddiewac

so when she died in critical roll. Matt Mercer (DM) had her and percy roll dex saving throws. She rolled a 1 which is a critical failure said "lol am i dead? jk" and then matt mercer hit her with that death blast and killed her character. Nobody saw it coming cuz she rolled like the only number that would kill her lol. 1, total failure.

LordFaet

Gotta remember that this is all coming from a DnD game. Ain't no one got plot armor here, if they got a bad roll and died in the game then they're dead in the show.

joshua rosario

sir in dnd everyone can die EVERYONE

Lamaree Jackson

Honestly been waiting for her or her brother to drop since the show started. Didn’t know it was actually gonna happen

HIM

You know, while I didn't care much for Vex and Vax season 1, I DO love what they were able to do in the past 2 episodes. I appreciate a simple backstory that further explains mumblings about characters we've heard, but have never really seen. I'm here for the VA's, as there are some damn good ones and very iconic ones at that, and Liam O'Brien might be my favorite. His performance is always top-tier, and he sold me at the end (despite being spoiled lol). I'm sad now because the backstory gave more depth to her character, but now that's gone with the wind lol. Hopefully Laura Bailey made a new character or sticks around for more voices. Speaking of VA's, I can't help but think of "Boys Be" everytime Scanlan talks lol.

Erik Miller

To quote one episode: “I have an Intelligence of 6, I know what I’m doing”

Brandon Rodgers

Watching the DND clip for the death scene was crazy she rolled a whole 1

Tyler

Lupa was hilarious with that damn death flag lmao

HessianX

Giants in DnD can't have beards, so having a beard is a big deal.

Dylan

Yeah except it's critical roll and they'll phib it however damn well they please lol

Victor

Don’t be so shocked. You guys will get used to it, eventually.

Ebronics

you can find shot for shot comparisons on youtube and it hits hard.

Sy'mon Almeida

yeah over protector, but.. he's right.

joshua_e

Please React to recorrd of ragnarok it is insanely good and s2 just came out

DANIEL PEREZ

WHO would have thought a blast of death magic would kill?especially someone who wasn't expecting a blast of death magic

Dude559

It's really not good...Or at the least season 1 sucked. Zeus vs Adam was fun but all the other fights where dumb and dull

Tug

Man this next batch of episodes was even better. This season is gonna be nothing but heat 🔥

WackySwacky

Vax and Vex are Half-Elves. That's why their father calls them "diluted". In Dungeons and Dragons, Elves typically live around 750 years old, while Half-Elves only live to around 200 years old. Also, bearded Grog actually predates the 2018 God of War game by 3 years (Grog got the beard during Campaign 1 in 2015). So technically, you could argue Kratos copied Grog's look.

cade-carter

Rolling a 1 doesn't mean you just die. She got knocked to 0 Hp. Dopping to 0 hp means you go unconcious. If someone heals you then you will be fine. She specifically got knocked to 0 with instant death magic.

Mario Huizar

Yeah Sheera was getting all mad about them doing dumb stuff but it was 100% bad rolls that caused it lol

JayJay

leave mah boy grog alone

Nardoc

huh? by the time the game came out it would have been in development for like 4 years... maybe more

シュモーク

@Nardoc Yeah but there's nothing to copy from a private game still in development lol. Grog with a beard hit public audiences first.

I VisiBomb I

also pretty sure canonically Goliaths have no hair so him having a beard is a big deal.

Kristian Thaler

Real love for a show and its characters also comes with real pain.

Myles Guy

RIP Lance bruh. Percy Jackson still hasn’t recast him outta respect but I don’t know what actor could even capture what he brings.
