SUNDAY POST? Ayooooo

Gunny

That’s why he’s the Goat, the GOAT

Isaac

Whoa, this is a surprise. Time to not do my job and watch along.

Renni .

i cried so hard this episode

DaOskii

I can't wait to see what yall think. I loved it

Luis Rodriguez

I just finished watching the episode. Y'all are quick with it😂

ogking31

Yall uploading videos on Sundays?

Smash Bran'Discootch

So like this was totally different than the game and I do miss the smack talk between Bill and Ellie, but HOLY SHIT WAS THIS WORTH IT! I have no words for how incredible this was. Seeing Nick Offerman who is like a super masculine dude portraying such tenderness and vulnerability and having all be completely BELIEVABLE was fantastic! And the choice to completely cut the music during the "wine" scene almost gave the feeling of "This moment belongs to them. Nobody else." Fuck, that was INCREDIBLE.

Grelk

People’s surprise that they posted on Sunday shows how many just dont read the posts

Vanilla

I haven't even gotten to watch the ep yet but while I'm here should I but dragons dogma is it a good game I heard mixed reviews about it?

Vanilla

Quick question for made in abyss fans what is the watching order for the movies I just finished season 1

ahomelesscake

Wasnt a fan of this episode. First off they ruined Bill's character and the man playing Bill was more suited to his real personality and not the one portrayed in the episode. Also all that for a single note was dumb as well. There was so much potential in this arc (from the game) they could of used but chose this. I know they werent gonna follow the game fully but THIS was absolutely not necessary. Would of pefered them finding Frank body with the note and the school gym part to this.

ahomelesscake

Made the character seem unbelievable. Why bring in an actor known for snarky attitude to play this role if you arent gonna use any snarkiness? Also show isnt about them and making it an entire episode means they skimped on this arc due to budget restraint from Discover/Warner Bros or they plan on using the school scence elsewhere. My bet is the former.

Smash Bran'Discootch

L EDIT: I'm actively trying to be less of a dick on the internet and I did not put my best foot forward here, man. So for clarification, I emphatically disagree with your opinion, but I do respect your right to form it and am sure you have many valid reasons why you feel that way. I do apologize for saying so in a dickish manner, that's on me.

Smash Bran'Discootch

I had a friend who was super into it and sunk a LOOOOOOOOT of time into it. Haven't played it myself but he raved about it.

Donquixote Dolph

Definitely agree with the great/depressing. I loved this episode the acting was amazing!! I haven’t played the games but the show has been really good.(definitely will hop on it after the shows over purely for spoilers 😂)

Professor00

You only need to watch “Dawn of the Deep Soul”. The other two are compilation films of season 1

Grelk

Nice discussion, good back and forth. You really defended your position and showed why you were correct

Slicewinds

I mean episode was kool I prolly couldve done w/o the whole Bill and Frank back story but good episode nonetheless. And give Ellie a weapon so she can defend herself. What Joel think she gonna turn and shoot him like come on.

Devin B

No joke if I was in a zombie apocalypse I would definitely need to procure a decent pair of running sneakers cause walking all around in boots or converses sounds like pain with every step you take.

Smash Bran'Discootch

Lmfao why should I have to respond or participate in a debate? Maybe yall get off on that, but I don't have the time or the energy to devote to a useless debate. This dude has a completely different opinion than mine which I think is a trash take. Just like he thinks my take is a trash take. Both are equally valid opinions based on a subjective art form. Literally nothing I could say could bring homeboy around to my way of thinking just like I'm pretty sure nothing he could say could bring me around to his and I know I certainly have a bad habit of getting in comment wars and man I'm really trying to break that. Like we both let eachother know what we thought of our respective takes and neither of us have insulted eachother or anything so like...what more needs to be said, you know?

anthony

i think they thought it was zach galafanacis but its not

vesra

Beautiful episode

Carlos

Part of me really wanted to see Ron Swanson as sour ass game Bill, trading barbs with Ellie and taking on a horde of infected with her and Joel, but yeah this shit had me deep in my feelings. Offerman and Bartlett crushed it.

Daniel Sol

Nah good boots get more comfortable over time and last a lot longer than running shoes. Only problem is they might be loud against clickers...

Carlos

They did a fantastic job of subverting expectations. I got emotional early on just knowing Frank was gonna eventually go, wasn't expecting it to happen the way it did and for Bill to go with him. That shit hurt. Continues the show's thesis that love is beautiful and fucking painful.

Isaac

I know yall love playing that " I wouldnt trust this guy " card but you forget about that one variable that all humans in solitude get. Loneliness. Its a painful virus that creeps up on you and it gets worse if you finally get some human to human interaction because your feelings get all types of messy. You just can't win in that situation, ever. And once you get lonely enough, you'll trust anyone who gave you emotional relief. At that point, you better hope you're lucky.

Devin B

@Dj Josol I think it depends on what you prioritize more cause if you're just trying to run away from something then running shoes would give you more of an edge but if you need to kick someone or something then boots are your answer. I definitely wasn't thinking about how loud you would be in boots though, that was a good point and yeah after running a while running shoes are definitely gonna break down before boots.

Smash Bran'Discootch

Annie Wersching, Tess's video game VA passed away today after a long battle with cancer. Rest In Peace /:

Moisty Justice

this drop is more surprising than the grown ass "men" crying about what the episode is about

Devin B

The guy you're thinking about is Nick Offerman. He played Ron Swanson in Parks and Rec and funny enough his character in Parks and Rec would've more than likely been on the same time as Bill was if there was a zombie apocalypse with the bunker and getting supplies as soon as shit went down.

John Cedar

Maybe think about this episode not as one that is meant to move the main plot forward but as worldbuilding instead. It separated this show from a lot of other zombie stories and made you feel just how broken and lonely this world is, and I think the main message is that if you're just surviving, then you're not really living. People need something more than just what they "need".

YaBoyRoshi

Nah he was who I thought he was lol it was just Parks and Rec which im not familiar with. Seen his face in a ton of memes

YaBoyRoshi

You forgot we the no empathy trio lmao. He would have most definitely had to fuck off 😭

YaBoyRoshi

Yeah really sad news. We watched this a few days ago before her passing but will def include a message on the Youtube edit

Nasir Ally

This episode was ass fr

TheDroppedFry

I don't care what anyone says- they butchered the hell out of this episode. Why did they kill off Bill? What was the point of showing us a whole damn hour of his journey if they were just going to leave him off as a "farewell, here's my shit" note? Compared to the previous two episodes, this one was just awful in terms of pacing, the lack of focus on relevant characters, and the LACK OF ACTION! The Last of Us is a combat-oriented game, so while I understand cutting out some of the action, it doesn't mean turning this into another Part II depression simulator. Still, I have high hopes the rest of this season will turn out great. I just am hoping that Drunkmann doesn't pull another Part II and fuck up a great opportunity yet again.

John Cedar

My favorite part of this episode was how they subverted horror/zombie tropes and film tropes in general. When Ellie is down with the zombie, the music and camera work are signaling to us that something bad will happen, that she will be unprepared for a dangerous situation and Joel will have to help her. But she was simply being a curious kid and investigating the world she lives in. And when Bill was shot and Frank was dressing his wound, the music and the words Bill was saying were all pointing to him tragically dying, but Frank ended up being the one who was going first. I hope they continue with this kind of storytelling.

DatKid_Kaneki

if you cant get past the action and watch a full episode of just dialogue, then u must not watch many shows. this was great not knowing the direction they were taking, if u want a full action sequence then offer up some money gang

John Cedar

You could say the same thing about Tess, why have her at all if she's just going to die in her first episode with any character development? Because her death is her impact on the story at large, not the brief time she was on screen. This episode was meant to convey emotion and not plot, to show the bleakness of this world and the way in which people have tried to push through it. Bill's line to Joel about how he needs to take care of Tess reminds Joel that the person he is now looking out for is Ellie, and Bill taught him that you shouldn't throw away emotional attachment and human connection in this world just because you're afraid of getting hurt again. It reminded him that there are people that need him, and he's not just drifting along in the apocalypse. Yeah, it sucks that Ellie didn't get to meet them but it would have taken away from the touching way they decided to go out together, it wouldn't have worked if Ellie and Joel were in the house. Maybe they could've had them decide to die together after Ellie and Joel leave, but that would also take away from how powerful the letter was. And who on this planet has ever said that The Last of Us is a action-focused game? Its combat is maybe half a tier above Uncharted, which is to say it's pretty light. It is and always has been a story-focused franchise, which is what they are doing in this show.

Cleven Anthony

Lol this episode felt like a super unnecessary add on 😭😭. Back story that added nothing to the plot. I don’t mind the change too much tho since ultimately bill is a one and done character whether he’s alive or dead but I honestly prefer video game bill too this more toned down bill. Romance was cool too especially since it didn’t feel like it was obvious what they’re relationship was in the game. I do wish they had the banter between bill n Ellie tho. Altogether for me personally it was a very meh episode

DatKid_Kaneki

separate the game to the show they already said they were going to be major changes so even gamers have a new experience. u shouldve never came expecting a shot by shot comparison to the game

MockingByrd

it's good you have to be okay with the fact that it's more hardcore and sometimes you'll have to be okay with travelling long empty distances other than that it's great.

Gilthwixt

It's nothing like the game and I think that's fine. The game had great writing but being *a game* meant most of the screen time would be play out the same, i.e. "Get from x to y by killing z amount of in-game enemies". That works for an interactive game but not for an onscreen narrative, and the fact that they're playing with the story to suit the medium is common sense.

TheDroppedFry

I watch enough shows and tailor enough stories to know this is dogshit director's creative writing at work when I see it, though that can be my opinion entirely and certainly not a fact. What I fail to understand is why you try to go so hard to justify what is clearly just bad choice. Bill is not a sentimental character. In the game, he was bitter as all hell because his husband chose to hang himself rather than be around Bill. This gives more meaning to "The Last Of Us", because the term itself is one of bitterness and desolation; those who are left are the ones that have grown disattached from everything else.

Darrias Henderson

Can you believe that Annie Wersching who was the voice of Tess in TLOU passed away when this episode released today. so sad she was only 45 years old

John Cedar

@Joseph Why should Nick Offerman be indefinitely typecast as the same guy? Bill's character traits are similar to characters he's played before (and his own personality in some ways) while still being unique and something new for him to do. Like, Adam Sandler was known for just one thing and was always cast for that, and it got old. Then he was in Uncut Gems and we were reminded that he's an artist with capabilities beyond what we've come to expect from him. Bill was simultaneously strong and vulnerable, prepared and unprepared for the apocalypse in different ways. And his story was a simple but very touching one about the importance of human connection and that living isn't just about surviving.

Isaac

This was a BEAUTIFUL episode the Bill and Frank stuff was romantic from start to finish. Got me crying like the first 10 minutes of UP.

Riku

I was not expecting this at all such a concise and poignant love story in an otherwise unforgiving world, loved it

Gearmaster_596

The movie you’re supposed to watch is called dawn of the deep soul. Skip the other two movies because they are a recap of season 1.

Smash Bran'Discootch

In older houses, especially ones built in the country if you have the windows open and one door closes it'll create a draft. That's why the door to the bedroom closed when the front door did. It was a brilliant stylistic choice, knowing that Bill and Frank are dead inside there, it was almost as if it were Bill and Frank saying, "No, Joel. You don't want to see this." Fucking BRILLIANT. I could write a paper on this episode alone.

John Cedar

"In the game" this isn't the game buddy. It has been said countless times by both people in these comments and the show's creators that the show will diverge from the game so that even people who know the story by heart will have things to be surprised by. If you want the story regurgitated to you, go watch the game's cinematic compilation on YouTube. Also, the director (generally) in TV doesn't write or really influence the overall story. Directors have the most creative control in film, but the writers have the most creative control in TV. The writer is Craig Mazin and he likely got the gig from writing for Chernobyl. So if you're gonna call someone's creative work "dogshit", you should probably at least halfway know what you're talking about.

Smash Bran'Discootch

What I've always appreciated about The Last Of Us is that the whole "zombie apocalypse" thing is really just the backdrop and setting that they use to tell truly human stories. This was no different, a truly human story. I absolutely loved this.

Smash Bran'Discootch

L EDIT: I find your take to be trash, but I mean you got a right to feel that way. I'm sure you'd probably think my take is trash too. *shrugs* agree to disagree I guess, homie.

Rami Homsi

@John Exactly! Craig Mazin said that he wanted Nick Offerman in the role because he was inspired by seeing former comedy actors, Bryan Cranston and Bob Odenkirk, kill it in dramatic roles in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. It would suck to cast Nick Offerman in this and then have him play the same exact roles that he's been doing instead of giving us a great, different performance

Devin B

@artistisSarcasm honestly Bill's whole character felt like a callback to Ron cause Ron loves his gun, meat, and liquor

Cody

Sheera talking bout we coming here once a month. No Sheera we bouta move in and look for that list of chores bill worte down 🤣

JA

Made me cry hard af

Devin B

I find it ironic how Bill and Frank first met cause Bill helped Frank get out of a pit and Frank being there helped Bill get out of a pit of loneliness cause if they never met Bill would've spent the rest of his life paranoid not enjoying the little things and trying to push anyone away from him.

Kisuke01

When they were eating the Strawberries my brain immediately went to the Anime Eighty-Six all they had were fake ass Strawberries make from bullshit

Passion

Nice touching episode. Sad that we didn't get the school or get to fight the bloater for the first time with the trio but I guess they wanted to switch it up a bit

TheDroppedFry

So you're wrong on both accounts. The director absolutely controls what is put out for both the game and in TV, I don't know where you got your sources from. You really think writers have the ultimate say? Hell no. Pull up your factoid otherwise I'm already believing this is another of Druckmann's awful decisions. Secondly, I didn't ask for the show to be right on par with the game scene-for-scene, I asked for a simple cameo of Bill ALIVE onscreen to have the interaction with Ellie and Joel, to showcase his personality. There's always going to be fans like you that just soak up everything a company does and offers no criticisms despite there being blatant annoyances. Do not twist my words- this is a good show so far. I am giving my criticisms to the one director I know has had his hand in making bad story-driven decisions that do nothing except try and pass off some subpar sentiment by offing characters at random or incoherent times.

Grimm

I appreciate that they separated from the game with Bill's character. But I was looking forward to see Joel hanging upside down and killing Runners. Also seeing Ellie interaction with Bill. That was a funny part of the game.

Isaac

Right? And what were the odds in an apocalypse that you'd come across another gay man? That's some DESTINY shit right there.

John Cedar

My source? Film school and working in the film industry for almost 10 years now. You can google it my guy. Let me ask you this: who was talking and explaining the writing choices in the after-show segments in Game of Thrones? D&D, otherwise known as the writers. Who's talking the most in the after-show segments for Westworld? Lisa and Jonathan Nolan, the showrunners. Have you heard that term, "showrunners"? Because it's not the director, unless the showrunner happens to be directing that episode. TV shows usually have multiple directors per season, and they are often brought in to the show without having been on it from the start and without a huge knowledge of the story and where the story is going. They are there to direct a script that has already been written. For instance, the first 3 episodes of this show had all different directors. Idk why I explained this to you like you're interested in what's real and not just arguing, but you're welcome. Still incredibly easy to Google though, you should work on honing that skill yourself.

J C

In the game....Bill was such a insufferable asshole that frank killed himself...lol. Pleasant surprise Bill and Frank had a nice apocalypse together in this though. Could done without Frank going down on Bill though. Like damn, its hard enough watching straight people get down when your watching with people but watching two burley dudes get freaky was another level.

earthphoenix7068

SHEERA GOD DAMN IT EVERY TIME. It was giving me the same awkward vibes but I was just not believing it to be true.

Max Stone

Anybody know what part Roshi was talking about at the end that he said "brings him physical pain to think about?"

TheDroppedFry

Screen writers, producers, AND directors; apparently you missed that part of D&D. You also missed the part where they completely fucked up Season 8 of Game of Thrones, so comparing them to the writers of this show is not giving good imagery. Multiple directors? Notice how every start of each Last of Us episode has "Neil Druckmann" as the director? He controls the show. He probably helps with writing the show. Maybe the writer gets to choose, too. It doesn't matter to me because I am opining that this decision to spend an hour of screentime on a dead character has such little payoff it's not worth being in the story for such a long time. 20, 30 minutes maybe. But I'd much rather have seen a capable actor and great character used as the way the game had that PARTICULAR scene play out. Then read the first sentence of my first comment so we can end this asinine debate over my irrelevant opinion.

Daniel Sol

I mean it was more tastefully done than say, peaky blinders with sex and orgies every episode.

John Cedar

Lmao my guy you are reaching so hard your arm is about to break. I didn't compare them to the showrunners of Game of Thrones, I was defining what a showrunner is because you apparently haven't ever heard of one. I thought the GoT example would be easy for you to understand since I thought everyone knew about the level of control they had on that show. Sad to see that it didn't get absorbed into your brain. That's ok, we'll just say that you are very smart and your opinion matters. Happy now?

Smash Bran'Discootch

See thats one of the things that a show can do that's harder for a game. In the game you had all the notes and things you picked up that told you all about the messed up and heartfelt and sad stuff that was going on, but in the series they can show instead of tell. I'd argue this is absolutely necessary in order for the series to have the same depth the game had. In this series, we don't get little notes following the trail of Ishmael running his boat aground after running out of food, setting up a shelter and trading with travelers, eventually allowing some to move in, starting a community with children and a school before the infected got in and killed almost all of them except for one or two who escaped and the guy who shot all the children and himself before the infected got in. Was any of that necessary to the plot? No, my guy, but aren't you glad that world building was there in the game? I fully acknowledge that nothing I say is gonna alter your opinion and that's cool. I know you got your reasons and I'm not trying to change your mind. Just offering up a different perspective fam.

Daniel Sol

TLOU game's narrative to me is "this is why we can't have nice things" I see Craig Mazin is bringing more light into the world of TLOU.

zanderbander

TV Joel got that port mafia aim

TheDroppedFry

Sad to see my statements about the directors wasn't absorbed into your brain, either. That's fine, film students do tend to focus only on what's vapid, anyways. That's why they're not writers.

Alorian

You guys know that Joel forgot the cake, but there were 2 other instances that Joels family dodged turning. Joel declined the offer for biscuits outside when the dude was feeding G-ma, and his daughter said no to the raisin cookies because she hated raisins.

Smash Bran'Discootch

I highly recommend it my dude. The Last Of Us is the franchise I hold up as an example of videogames being art. They also pioneered a lot of the motion capture and cinematic techniques that are commonly used now. The second one was very divisive, but I personally loved it.

Kami_Psy

I kinda wish Joel and Ellie got to see Bill like in the game mostly because Bill and Ellie's relationship was hilarious, but I feel like this is a very sweet alternative tbh.

Pan Cakes

Damn, the episode was good but it still sucks that they didnt go the zombie route where they went for the battery. hopefully the upcoming episodes focus more on them surviving against the zombies instead of just human conflict 24/7

earthphoenix7068

A hundred guns but no vests? no plate carriers? okay dud

Smash Bran'Discootch

I love how Ron Swanson basically just IS Nick Offerman. So many things about the character just come from Nick's real life.

John Cedar

Film students ARE writers...? Where do you think screenwriters come from? And I haven't been a student in a while. Hahahhaha you're so pressed and I love it. Looking forward to your seething next week.

Chuzo

to be fair the thing was pretty dumb and everyone hated it so they prolly wont if not change the way it was done

Lamaree Jackson

Great episode but hopefully they don’t start focusing on the human element so much that the zombies are basically a non threat except to kill someone off. Like the walking dead went from the herd on the highway to characters having full on civil war fights with a whole army of zombies ignoring them even though they’re attracted to sound.

TheDroppedFry

I'm more baffled that you are still bitching under my comment over a different opinion. Not all film students are writers, much less good ones. I'd assume you're pressed with how anal-retentive you get over the film industry. I don't care whether you're right or wrong about it. If you really want to prove you're not "pressed", then you can leave it at this reply.

Smash Bran'Discootch

The thing was literally the only thing that made sense for the story and was the only way for there to even be a second game. "I didn't like it" doesn't equal "its bad". Oh, "everyone hated it"? Yeah that's why it's one of the most highly decorated games of all time and has won more fan awards than any game in history until Elden Ring recently surpassed it. FAN awards. As in there is empirical data to back up my statement. A vocal minority hated it. My dude I'm actively trying to be less of a dick on the internet but the only nice thing to tell you in this situation is to hold the L.

Smash Bran'Discootch

Yeah man I got straight HUMBLED over this. A couple of weeks ago I was talking maaaaaaaaaaaaad shit on the biscuit theory, but I'll be damned if I wasn't dead wrong.

Grimm

Sorry but the second game story was handled poorly. I can see the second game story working better as a tv show but in a game aspect they didn't count the fact no one wants to play 10 hours of a character they hate. It made people not care about the backstory at all because of the gameplay that they had to go through to get the story. I was one of the people that hated the shit out of it but looking back at it now I can understand what they did. I'm just not a fan of "REVENGE IS BAD" message, it's lame and no one cares about it.

J C

There are several. But if you've played the games. there's maybe one more scene I can think of that bring physical anguish...I pray that the show does it justice. I know that's vague but if you really think about it....what is one more scene in the game that was like....FUCK.... ;[

Sughandi

I wouldn't hold off too much hope for the next episode. Judging off the preview we're probably not getting any contact with infected

Smash Bran'Discootch

Again, one of the most highly decorated games of all time with the second most fan awards ever recieved next only to Elden Ring. If you're saying it was bad or the story was handled poorly, you're flat out wrong. If you say you didn't like it, that's totally fair. That's absolutely valid. But like....the message was nowhere near as simple as "revenge is bad" I recommend going through it again because talking any morw about it is just gonna be spoilers. But just because you didn't like the story doesn't mean it was bad or poorly handled. Everything made sense, nothing was retconned, they didn't rewrite history. Everything was a complete continuation with logical paths that you could trace back. Again my dude, empirical data shows that you're wrong. It's totally fine that you didn't like it, that's your own opinion and is entirely happening on your terms. Nothing wrong with having a differing opinion and I'm fine that yours dffers from mine. Sorry the game didn't live up to your expectations, my dude. Maybe part 3 will end up being something you vibe with?

J C

For me personally, I enjoyed this episode, not my fav so far but it was enjoyed. More backstory TLOU stuff is what I'm happy with. but I completely understand your take. They cut out the highschool, they cut out Bills part. The upside down scene with Joel in the game and the whole Bills town arc of the game would have been EPIC 1 for 1. Disappointed that it was cut is an absolute justifiable feeling. Im really hoping they bring that upside down scene in a later episode.

Smash Bran'Discootch

But...that's what The Last Of Us is. The whole zombie apocalypse is the LEAST important thing about the whole story. It's just the backdrop and setting against which they tell human stories. You know, stories about "The Last Of Us".

John Cedar

"That's fine, film students tend to focus on what's vapid anyways, that's why they're not writers". Film students = not writers, that's what you wrote. Did you forget already? I'm kinda "anal-retentive" about remembering what people said less than an hour ago. If you really want to prove you're not pressed, then you can leave it at this reply! It's ok to be wrong sometimes, you don't always need to back yourself into an endless corner of defense. Hope you learned something about the pipeline and structure of TV. I was glad to help.

Dark Danny

Random but when I remember how much time has passed and I see Ellie I think about how Joel’s actual daughter would be in her 30s. Rip Sarah

Daaylen Watson

I can’t imagine it’s easy to find stuff like that. Guns in America are everywhere but I have never met anyone with plates. I guess I agree about just simple vests though. But there will always be things in TV to find off.

Lamaree Jackson

My point is the setting has to stay important and not fade away because they wanna make an episode about Joel trying to find bread to make Ellie another sandwich. Completely ignoring the zombies while you show the damage and mistrust they cause is what I’m worried about. Might not be the main focus but it’s important. That’s like saying being stuck on the train is the least important thing about Snowpiercer.

Grimm

"empirical data" I bet your data is from IGN. That's why when it first came out everyone was calling the story bad to the point the creator himself had to defend it. Literally every streamer at the time who played it said it was bad. I would say 70% of the The Last Of Us fanbase did not enjoy playing the second game. Which is why people now are hoping they would change the story for the show

Fabian Hernandez

I’m surprise that Lupa didn’t know about Frank since he said he played it recently but he wasn’t really a character lol

Smash Bran'Discootch

There's no point in arguing this, you are completely committed to being wrong. All you want to do is argue instead of doing a simple Google search to learn information yourself. Smh theres just no helping you my dude. I've already shown you how you're wrong and all you want to do is argue and whine. I'm not here for it my man. "Literally every streamer who played it at the time hated it." My guy there is actual video evidence showing that you are wrong. "Literally 70% of the fan base hated it" More fan awards than any game in history until elden ring surpassed it. It's fine if you didn't like it my dude, but why spout just patently untrue things? And if you think they're going to make the thing you didn't like not happen, you're just plain delusional.

Grimm

Simple google? Literally google The Last of us 2 review and it shows bunch of articles when it was release saying how bad it was. Go to YouTube and type in The Last of us 2 review videos with over millions of views saying how bad it was and everyone in the comments agreeing. Go to metacritics User review and it got a 5.8/10. You really believe that fans didn't hate it?

Isaac

Yeah I had to refresh myself on who the hell Frank was. He was a nothing character so I get how he's forgettable.

Fabian Hernandez

Yeah he was mentioned once and they didn’t love each other in the end, he said he’ll rather be dead than with him lol

alonso616

I'm always rolling at how untrusting you guys are 🤣

Blue-Eyes W. Chibi

Was gonna say, wasn't Frank that one guy bf or something. Funny how I can remember that, but can't remember the part at the beginning where they got hit by a car, lol.

gamerman1902

Just wanna point out that Massachusetts was the first state to legalize gay marriage in 2004 and obviously the other states followed later but in TLOU world none of that shit happened because the outbreak happened in 2003. Just makes their decision to get married at the end even more emotional and heart wrenching for me. I was young in 2003 but still remember the political climate and how homophobic most people were back then and that’s the environment Bill and Frank are coming from. Makes their love story even better.

eetsua

It provides the same significant impact that it does on the characters and that’s all the truly matters in the grand scheme of things. I don’t think the back story needed to add anything to the plot, it’s job was to add a new and layered meaning to bill and frank using a new medium. I personally could do without the bill and ellie banter if it means strengthening the narrative, if I wanted to see it I’ll just find the clips online lmao.

Sosuke Aizen

Seeing as how the show is supposed to be different and how most things are out there control because there’s only so much they can do to make a video game come to life even with current technology, theres only a few things that you can critique. With that said I just didn’t like how much time they took doing the back story and how Joel and Ellie didn’t even get to interact with Bill, they changed a lot in the show. the main focus of the game was always supposed to be the nature and humanity of well, humanity it’s self so this episode and the emotions fit nicely but idk how I feel about the amount of things they change

Mervyn Larrier

He's actually a very varied actor, Ron Swanson's just his most familiar. And this version of Bill was very much like Ron Swanson in personality.

baja

Damn bro, were you guys streaming it as soon as it came out and then upload it to patreon?

Isaac

Upon rewatching this episode, the dinner scene was nothing but well crafted, on the nose man to man gay messaging between two closeted characters; well Bill was probably the only closeted one. Its fair to assume that both of them possibly lived in anti gay areas of America. Frank was clocking Bill yhe whole dinner scene ( seriously that hair flip bill did and the " I know I don't seem like the type " "no you do." Exchange lol ) and the whole Piano part was love at first gay confirmation when Frank said " i know" . Bravo show. That was damn good gay male romance representation.

Patrone07

Did you really watch the walking dead the zombies are and all ways was a problem they have a whole arc about the whispers who lived and went to war with zombies

Dj Josol

I think it's for the best yall forgot about bill and frank. Seeing your blind unknowing reaction was gold. Also Bill and Frank's story in the game is much more depressing. I'm cool with accepting this as canon lol

alonso616

ive played the games but i cant think of what hes talking about, is there a vague way someone can remind me?

SupremeCai

Neil Druckmann looking at the award winning TLOU 1 story/script boutta help write the HBO script. 'I can do this better.'

Gyro

You want him to discuss with someone else why he enjoyed the episode ?😂 just keep it pushing bro

SupremeCai

That's what every zombie flick and their mother says.....not disagreeing just....weird way to praise it lol

TimmSchmimm

Damn this episode was really good man. The writing was phenomenal tbh I really don't like when shows or brands go for the lgbtq thing just for the sake of winning over this this audience group eventough they dont mean it and it feels really forced. I know their relationship and bills sexuality was hinted at in the game but wow they did something amazing with this. This came so natural, even necessary I would say and I don't think a hetero relationship would be able to describe what they had here, all this was like the first 10 mins of UP just enhanced and further improved. Also for joel to find this letter right after losing tess with nothing but ellie is way more depressing or more like it hits way harder than what the game did. Joels Solitude is cruel in this interpretation of the story and what I also love is that pedro pascal depicts joel more like joel himself at the start of the game kinda. The 1. 2. and especially 3. episode are mindblowing adaptions of the game they enhance the source material tenfold (I know it's a videogame and there needs to be room for gameplay and action scenes). If they stuck with a 1:1 adaption this show would be horrendously bland an average zombie action series, but nah they are going crazy with this ty to whoever is directing and writing this this could become an all time classic masterpiece.

Whistanfox

I was leaking tears n snot from every hole on my head 😭😭

maurizio piras

boring ass episode they wasted 70 plus minutes over a fucking love story just to make the rainbows happy

SupremeCai

Exactly what I thought. With how the pacing is currently a firefight at Bill's at the scale we had in game woulda felt real weird. Players were ready to unleash they had a lot of time to deal with infected/be stealthy but in the show we got clickers last episode xD Shit's gotta change to fit the medium and I'm glad most people are understanding that

Isaac

Yeah this episode ain't for the bigot heterosexual. Yall can play the game where Bill was still gay but unhappy.

Isaac

Oh shit I forgot... they can keep the room. Everything else is mine.

Merk Mesni

keep watching and stay salty. Grow up and accept the fact that not everything is about action.

saintvenom

If you want multiple seasons of this show, they need backstory on characters. It doesn’t need to be a 1:1 representation with the game otherwise it’d just be the same old same old. I’m with the creators of the game all the way.

saintvenom

Gamers can be as worse than comic book fans if the live action isn’t EXACTLY like the source material. It’s insufferable. You are not a better story teller of the game than it’s creator.

saintvenom

This is NOT a video game. This is a live action show. You need backstory on characters or you won’t be able to relate to them or understand their motives.

Azayzel Hoarde

Sheeras face when theyre about to smash lmao that smile grew 3 times that day

Michael Saylor

I'm really mad that ellie didn't meet Bill and steals his gay porn

Saraël Lele

Haha, i for my part completely and entirely didn't remember Bill and Frank from the game. I still don't. But i knew exactly that in the beginning they were rammed by a car and not a plane.

HIM

As a TV viewer only, I failed to find any actual significance to the story in this episode. I'm not here to start drama. I just genuinely feel like this episode was basically pointless. Well, wait... Ellie has a gun now. That's pretty huge 😏

jordansamuel

That scene where they are having their last meal was so sad man! And the music was beautiful

HIM

Tell me why 45 minutes in I finally realized that dude WASN'T Zach Galifianakis 😅. I only recognize him from 21/22 jump street lol. And I swear yall remind me of that one Pootie Tang skit with Chris Rock, AT TIMES. Roshi: "Ooh wee it is hot today! Damn it's hot out here!" Sheera: "Yeah... and it's hot, too!" 🤣

KeYo

i saw and im like nick offerman? lol but yeah i was wondering because this is the dude from the game who teaches you how to make shrapnel bombs or something i think and then you fight a big infected in the game. dam they took out a huge ass action event. i hope they dont do that for alot of the show.

Saraël Lele

Kinda strange comment to me. "To make the rainbow people happy". If it was a straight couple would u say "just to make the straight ones happy"? It sounds like u are fed up with "rainbow people" demanding and slowly getting equal representation in media (probably why some people got kinda angry in the responses). Maybe it's just about the story they wanna tell and not about their sexual orientation but the love story. I can understand tho that the love story itself wasn't that suspenseful really.

Donquixote Dolph

It just got remastered for ps5 I think, so I’m looking forward to playing it soon!😁😇 I agree with the video games being art! Definitely look forward to my play through more now ✊🏽💪🏽

Mikaele Rosecrans

For those who were wondering what Roshi was gonna tell Lupa about Joel’s death in the last of us 2

Bazil

Did you know that Poaceae (/poʊˈeɪsiaɪ/) or Gramineae (/ɡrəˈmɪniaɪ/) are a large and nearly ubiquitous family of monocotyledonous flowering plants commonly known as grass. You should go outside and touch some.

maurizio piras

Lol you get that triggered because I criticize a fucking show you should follow your advice

NeoSpotLite

Well Frank killed himself because he got bit while getting the car battery. Still agree Bill was an insufferable and paranoid dude.

Tre Staples

Roshi hasn't played Last of Us 2, he's playing it for three first time when this season is over

Michael Cannon

I could see it. The show is a narrative, and the game needs those action events to keep you engaged because it is so much longer form. But the show doesn't need to do that to hook you, we can just enjoy story. And this story that they're telling, action is low on the totem pole.

Aziouss

FUCK! I am not exactly happy or sad. I guess if it is heartwarming and bittersweet. It is just a weird feeling being reminded of this kind of love and inevitable loss. It is such a well executed love story in a post apocalyptic setting.

Sosuke Aizen

Never said it had to be a perfect or better adaptation like bleach but I’m just saying they took the whole episode for a character that’s never coming back that’s why the game never expanded upon it. honestly the game will always be better for many reasons but yeah I like how they’re doing the show but it could be different imo

Jacob Artis

looks like frank had lou gerigs disease

King97

Honestly I would've preferred that they kept it like it was in the game for this episode

Vel

I like Bill & Frank's elaborated story, but I'd still had preferred that Bill be alive to meet Ellie. Ellie & Bill's interactions in the game were some of the funniest bits!

Jazmyne Mattucci

and you here mad and upset about two dudes kissing each other. Pressed over men getting rammed broke back style. Honestly sounds like projection lil bro

Jazmyne Mattucci

this was pure depression. but at the same time, i enjoyed this episode. Like i made a joke to my wife saying that they gonna have Bill and Frank fuck on screen for the show months ago and the fact that they did, i want my pay cut HBO.

maurizio piras

Not mad or upset I just said that 75 minutes for this are too much and they cut some great section.Again if bill was straight they never have done the episode this way

maurizio piras

But I get it you can’t criticize the new world order, you have to love everything the USA made

Drake Rage

LMAO that "jump scare" near the end, nope just a mirror doing its thing reflecting the people in the car, haha.

Trist9n

There's a certain wholesome animal scene from the game I hope they put in the show but I don't think they will

Iouliana

Nah that's like one of the most well known scenes in the game, it definitely will be in the show.

Kanta

Okay I know Roshi said "idgaf if you can play music" but like... if you went 5 years with NO music... you would probably think differently

Bosastar

I’m not crying just something in my eyes😂

Peachie Mellow

PURE AND WHOLESOME. I LOVE YOU BILL AND FRANK <3 <3 <3

Iouliana

Didn't think I ever would, but I kinda prefer this then how the game did Bill and Frank. What the game did was great for a *game* but this shi was just so much better story wise

Mervyn Larrier

You keep writing about time being wasted. Yet your parents wasted years raising you for you to turn out shitty sooooo

Mervyn Larrier

Frank killed himself because he got infected while trying to get away from and betray Bill, information that hurts Bill when he finds out. So, good job completely misunderstanding rhe character

Mervyn Larrier

Bro you're trying really hard to pass yourself off as intelligent and the more you try the stupider you seem

Douglas Kelley

Sorry, but this is a zombie show and people want to see zombie action. This episode really had zero impact on the overall story. You can skip and not really miss much.

Douglas Kelley

Ravenf, they already stated that the first season will cover the entire first game so what you said doesn’t really apply here

Douglas Kelley

And giving backstories to characters we will see throughout the show makes sense, not characters who are introduced and killed in the same episode.

Anna Anthony

What gives them the RIGHT?! to make me cry multiple times over two grown azz mennnnnnn

TheDroppedFry

I voiced an opinion that the majority of softsacks like you can't handle to not make your own bitching apparent. I'm not here to have a 10-page discussion about the episode, because there's no point in talking with people who are vapid and braindead fans who will go rabid dog on anyone that finds flaws.

TheDroppedFry

John Cedar is out here getting paid to suck Druckmann's dick on every comment that isn't complete support. Get tf out of the comments and go find a Tumblr site to rant on.

TheDroppedFry

That's a pretty stupid ass comment to make for a game that was 90% action. That's like adapting an anime to live action and cutting out half the elements that make it fun to watch. Somehow no one here can fathom mixing both plot and action in the same series.

Isaac

Yeah M3gan woulda pulled up on them like "You made Anna cry" and start murdering.

TheDroppedFry

What does that even mean? You have no clue what you're pushing back against, you just want to blindly support shit without giving actual criticism. Growing up is recognizing that not everyone will have the same opinion as you.

TheDroppedFry

Hilarious, I actually despise Marvel because of how lowly their storytelling has become. Now you're supporting the exact opposite- a backstory that is made irrelevant because the character is dead, and serves such little drive to the plot that it's made the episode filler.

Brad Matthews

The game has a lot of action because it’s a game. Games need action and need to be interactive. This is a show, a very well written one so of course it will have much more dialogue. Stick to Marvel movies if this isn’t your cup of tea.

Bunny

If anyone was gonna survive like that, it would be Ron Swanson.😂

Mikaele Rosecrans

Yea Fr and plus people here need to stfu cuz they had 2+ years to watch the gameplay from like 10+ different streamers

Luna

I'm gonna be honest, I was completely engrossed by the Bill and Frank story that I forgot about Joel and Ellie.

Luna

So just because a character dies means the message they present becomes irrelevant to the story as a whole?. They expanded upon a minor plot point and turned it into a bittersweet Apocalypse love story, and saying it offers little drive to the plot is obviously bullshit considering how Joel reacted to the letter and how that will help reinforce the mindset to protect Ellie now that Tess is dead. It's fine if you don't enjoy those types of stories, but saying the expanded and changed backstory is irrelevant just comes across as disingenuous and disconnected.

CT

It just occurred to me that Bill both spiked the wine AND gave Frank the crushed up pills. He ensured that he would die after Frank. There was no way he could stand to go before.

Omar Bautista

Yeah i dont think they wanna go to a highschool and shoot down some people now that I think about it

Daniel NT

Im disappointed we dont have Elie meeting Bill with Joel, i would of preferred him stay alive, but this was an amazing episode of TV. Filming and acting was great

Lamar House

Damn I just wanted to see the Bill and Ellie beef

ERRORCODE616

I've only seen clips from Parks and Rec of Nick Offerman as Ron Swanson. He absolutely ate the role of Bill. I loved seeing him inject his trademark snarkiness, but also show his range with the tender and emotional scenes with Frank. It's a side I never thought I'd see from him. The writers are really fleshing the concept of a post-apocalypse out. People just trying to live however they can.

John Cedar

You're homophobic loser, literally no insult you could ever throw at me would make me embarrassed or sad. No matter how bad things get, at least I'm not you. Your thoughts are at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to film criticism and discussion. I like this show on its merit, you dislike it for having gay people, so which one of us has an agenda again? You sound like someone who wants this to be a replication of the game. Too bad, it won't be, cry more. Now return to your sad and inane life and maybe just don't speak if you feeling like being bigoted in the future.

Joker416

It doesn't matter how long people had to watch something don't be an asshole and put spoilers dickhead. How do you know some people here was going to play the game because of the show and you spoil them like that. I wish they ban people like you, dumb pos.

Mikaele Rosecrans

I watched the game play dumbass I don’t like those type of games I just like seeing people enjoy them selves on games n shit on stream and your the dick head judging me of something your capable of. You coulda watched it when the game was hyped up and had time to marinate it I don’t understand how people can watch the series when it’s waaayyy different from the game but on a similar plot line for instance it was Joel and Tess and Ellie vs the fireflies or thugs it’s been a while so I forgot and she went out in a boom in the game in this there was just a fat horde they were tryna avoid and they stepped on the vine

Mikaele Rosecrans

I wish they banned pussies like you that can’t take shit right it was all over the gaming internet when it happened and where were you? (Probably jerking off to some shit) Joel’s death hit the internet hard I have a friend that doesn’t like these type of games and he found out I love Roshi and the gang and if your bitch ass don’t wanna be spoiled why tf are you in the comments then?

Mikaele Rosecrans

Dick head you had 2+ years to watch game play and Joel’s death WAS IN THE SECOND SCENE OF THE FUCKIN GAME IT WAS THE BEGINNING HOW TF DID YOU MISS THAT? It went viral af

Mikaele Rosecrans

See your the type of person that don’t get pressed hard like other pussies you just accepted it and there was a lot of time to watch about 30 min of gameplay to figure it out. Ik it was a jerk and yes I did assume but 2+ years? Cmon

Mikaele Rosecrans

It’s been a while and probably missed that I just remember that bill was a Fuckin badass in the game

Mikaele Rosecrans

It would be to expensive to recreate that seen it’s probably gonna be cheap like Tess’ death and they had like what 2+ years to watch it all? Bruh these people

Mikaele Rosecrans

Gamers aren’t spoilers like manga readers you gotta pay for every book on manga YouTube is literally free and streams too u just gotta watch an ad and then the stream is free. Plus there are like 10+ creators out there that streamed this if you missed it wtf were you doing?

Mikaele Rosecrans

It’s literally so big you can’t miss it it was everywhere how u a fan of you’ve never come across Lupa play that shit? 🤦🏽‍♂️

Mikaele Rosecrans

I don’t really care as long as some of the big plots do happen and the location are kinda spot on tbf which I really like. And it all costs money and studios dig in their pockets for this then it’s all made up on HBO n shit

Mikaele Rosecrans

Fr didn’t need that this game/movie is a zombie apocalypse of death and fire no sex bs yea there was a few scenes of Gayness when Ellie and her gf made out that was it the rest was bashing everyone’s skulls in

Tyran Holmes

I think you guys should watch the behind the scenes after the fact too. Really insightful, spoiler free stuff from the creators. Just stop once they start showing previews lol

TheDroppedFry

Yeah while I can certainly praise the actors for doing a great job, I'm not a fan of the change. Bill was done more justice in the game as a character whose bitterness matched the world he lived in, rather than this romantic love story that doesn't really... lead to anywhere. Leaving a note for Joel to "take care of Tess" is not a great pay-off for killing off an integral character. The director seems to flip-flop between changing the story drastically to making scenes play-by-play; I wish he'd make up his mind.

TheDroppedFry

It is irrelevant, because they made him irrelevant by killing him off. And the most he did for the story was make Joel sentimental about Tess' death? No, this was a terrible decision. The actors did great, but the storywriting choice to make Bill die instead of live after the death of his husband is stupid. Let me reiterate: The PAYOFF of having Joel read his note about keeping Tess alive was NOT WORTH killing off an integral and important character of the story. All they did was completely remove the Bill we know from the game and put in a new Bill that has a completely different backstory and who took up the majority of the episode's watchtime. So the director wants to pay homage to the game by fleshing out Bill's backstory, but then suddenly "it's a show, not the game!" when he decides to make huge decisions like this? This is just plain hypocrisy and the fans are the worst people to give legitimate advice on what was good and what was not.

Malcolm Hughes

Funny realization I just had, Joel can't just hot swap a 12 guage for a rifle from his Dora the explorer backpack as he would in the game 🤣

OldManMag

I know everyone probably said this already but all of this and none of this was in the notes. They didn't die together like this. Instead they got into an argument and Bill regretted it for the rest of his days. This is all extra/changes from the game but so so damn good that it should be the new cannon. Shame we don't get to see the interactions but having bill call out "Call Joel CALL JOEL" when he thought he was dying broke me. He knew Joel would protect his world. He only wanted his partner to be safe. I cried like a baby it was such an emotional episode. There are plenty of people angry online about seeing guys kiss and as a straight Jamaican man nigga you watch porn and have seen probably 100 guys dicks stfu.

Ghost_Troupe

Maybe some of us just don't like seeing it...shit is weird regardless. If anything, I found the whole episode funny.

212

This was such a beautifully made episode. :(

CrackerJack

Honestly I kinda like that they decided to give Bill and Frank a “happy” ending in comparison to them leaving each other on bad terms and Bill finds Frank dead

Alexandre Cabral

I wonder what Roshi was talking about when he said he’ll talk to lupa after about something in the game :/

Reckless Company

Ellie moving the car mirror scared the shit outta me too had me thinking the same thing sheera and roshi was thinking.

Koosha Mokhbery

I'm super curious too! I just thought about it cause I just finished their vid. I think it may be about Sam and Henry, enough said lol

Chuzo

tbh if you have that much of a problem with it you might be denial my guy lol

Panda

@Ravenf dude you need that reguardless of the media to understand a character. Imo this was hands down better. yes we did lose some with bill being dead but we gained backstory and understanding on an additional character we didn't get much from in the game. On top of bill who we didn't get the most of. Most of there story in the game was inferred on, even them being in a relationship. So i really appreciate we got it flushed out, even if we did lose bill in the cross fire. Cuz at the end of the day, dude was in the game for an hour at most.

Steve

agreed, I think this should have been something AFTER Joel and Ellie left, would have been more fitting, either way, great little story.

NaytKayruii

I didn't care, sure it was surprising to see it end up that way till the piano scene. At least it felt natural and not forced like a lot of the same sex stuff tends to be lately, thats really good writing right there! Had my grown ass tearing up LMAO

Mikaele Rosecrans

No 😭 just people don’t know how to scroll and people had literally 2 years to watch Joel’s death 💀

Hertog

Was this episode just to please the rainbow mafia? Shit was boring

Friendly Elites

Something I think is important to add to their last scenes, gay marriage wasn't legalized in Massachusetts until 2004 and the infection started in 2003 in this world.

SunXBreathing

His character has always been gay bffr. Imagine being so fragile that you think anything that isn’t catered towards you is boring.

SapphireRose

My guy I know you're chronically incapable of happiness but you ain't gotta make it everyone else's problem.

Yugwubs

Bill was literally gay in the game too. You're just projecting your unhappiness on the world.

Levi Blair

Classic homophobic response to a great episode. Despite your narrow world view having gay characters especially when the source material has them as gay as well doesn't automatically mean it's to appease the "rainbow mafia" your fox and friends are so afraid of. Nobody wants your bigot ass here go yell into an echo chamber somewhere.

Killjoy

I'd say humans become more of an issue than the infected at a certain point of the game, excluding any other unique infected situations. The human element was a major aspect of the game

Yoish

I love yall but this was so funny watching three straight people trying to parse a gay relationships nuances and troves lmao

Yoish

Like, I dunno maybe this was just me but I could almost tell right away there were some heavy AIDS implications with Frank

Zachary Jackson

you're a dumbass. He obviously has Multiple Sclerosis (MS). They weren't analyzing anything. Also, how is a gay relationship any different then a heterosexual one? the answer is nothing, except bedroom intimacy speaking

Timothy Panngam

Great reaction as always guys. My favorite reactors.

Phroug

I had to google the definition of at least 2 of those words

ichigekix

"You just Blah Blah gay sex, Blah Blah congress. You know, you gotta be interesting."-Robert Freeman

Mordecaix Rigby

Not gonna cap I had to skip that bill and frank part yall white niggas know why btw

ok

if you talkn bout the flags n shit i feel you.

ok

28:35 I love the things that trip y'all up lmfaoooo so suspicious yet that's actually a heart warming moment where he's showing he sees Bill haha

Johann González

I like this path that they took. Bill was gay from the beginning, and the game made that evident. I enjoy it not because it's woke, and LGBTQ postive. I enjoy it because it shows the strength, and perseverance of humans. The game was Grim this, and gloomy that. Only showing the negative, but with this it gives you a little hope that sometimes humanity can thrive, and that's why we've survived for so long. The ability to see the light in the deepest darkness

ok

Watching this for the second time ... yeah that ending was spectacular. Love seeing Ellie smile at Joel in the sunlight + the music it just hit so well

Happy Tortilla

the jumpscare they gave themself XD ahahah it's just a car mirror, dudes!

Ichigoat

Your comment makes zero sense. These guys also watch stuff that came out years ago. Based on your comment and logic you will try and spoil things for them in the future and your excuse is going to be they had years to watch it.

Alejandro Rodriguez

yo their gaydars are all off lmao, I picked up on the vibes as soon as he poured that wine

Anonymous

That sure is a lot of comments. People being honestly homophobic I can endure, but long rants about why this episode was objectively poorly written and/or directed just to mask homophobia is irksome.

DANIEL PEREZ

that is the sad part had tess you waited or checked on bill and frank before going to the qz she would be alive
