And that's a wrap! for those interested Sheera and I are now pretty deep into our playthrough of TLOU 2 on the channel!

Comments

Trashthlete

My only regret is that they won't be surprised by a pretty key event in S2, but I'm glad they're having fun.

Sughandi

The only one who would've been surprised was Sheera. Both Lupa and Roshi knew about it before they started streaming it

Jalan

Now I can binge the whole show. I waited for the season to end before I started on it. But also….. it’s Warrior’s time to shine🔥🔥🔥

Avalon

Fun fact not only is Ashley Johnson the voice actress of Ellie in the game, she’s also Pike Trickfoot in Vox Machina. And Gwen from Ben 10. And Tera from Teen Titans. She gets around.

Nicka Snax

Mannnn... that's so poetic, making Ashley Johnson her mom is like OG Ellie giving birth to a new one. And she was so good in that brief time in this episode too.

Mario Huizar

Darn yall clogging up the server it keeps lagging for me lol

Kisuke01

After watching House of Dragons I don't wanna see a birth scene ever again

Curtis Rice

can't believe that's Ashley johnson, The one who plays pike in the Legend of Vox Machina/Critical Role.

kingBD

All my niggas hate abby

vork88

now this ended lets all vote for eminence in shadow next vote

zILovePelmeni _

nah its not Lupa if he doesnt wipe his tears all over his face like its some kind of lotion

Cleven Anthony

Damn, foreal ? She’s like all my favorite characters in one 😭 and I saw her in blind spot too where I first heard of her

kingBD

i know they said they will do more episodes of warrior so not sure if they do another poll just yet

kingBD

Lmao like how you know the whole story and still this stressed?

Daniel Sol

Man when Joel woke up my anxiety was making me feel like I was reliving a past trauma lol

Bria A.

Everyone’s pointing out Ashley Johnson as Anna as the obvious thing, but I gotta point out Laura Bailey (Abby in Part II; also Vex in TLOVM and…everything…in so many places, if there’s a little anime kid getting dubbed in the early 2000s it was probably her lmao) with a cameo as the nurse. Apparently she also voiced the nurse in the original game and some other minor background voices?

Mari

It’s a few shows that’s about to end in a few weeks Sinabad, my hero academia, Black Lagoon, Bungou stray dogs, to your eternity and blue lock so they’re should be a few polls that we should get soon

Sughandi

The remix of the main theme playing while Joel tears through the hospital is perfect

Smash Bran'Discootch

The only reason there are so many run-ins with the infected in the game is because it's a game. You need gameplay. But the "action" has always been the least important thing in the series, followed by the infected. All of that is just the backdrop against which they use to tell truly human stories. Ask the creator of the game what the point of the game was. It was to tell a story. Your show should never be propped up by action. It shouldn't be a crutch. The point of The Last Of Us is THE LAST OF US. Us. Humans. The point was to tell stories about people living in this world. And they did that successfully. I hear what you're saying, but i politely disagree for the reasons stated above, not because i'm just blindly calling it a 10\10, but because the show didn't need any more "action" than what it had because that isn't what The Last Of Us is. Though i'm sure you'll get more of that in the second season when we are dealing with the hyperviolence that is so prevalent in the second game.

zachary orosco

Don't know if anyone said it yet but it's cool that the house in the first part is were ellie in the game and her girl friend end up cool touch

Smash Bran'Discootch

I will say though that i agree playing the game is the absolute best way to experience it.

Smash Bran'Discootch

That feeling when you post a comment, realize it's a rant, and make the active choice to NOT be "that guy" lol. This and Vox Machina are the only series that turn me into "that guy" super easy. I'm working on it guys haha

JJ

Joel is a selfish piece of shit for this. Ellie could’ve been the one to save the ppl that were left. What he did was wrong.

Sahil B

You guys should watch the hunger games movies

kingBD

the way the fireflies handled it was wrong lol all they had to do was ask ellie instead of doing things shady

twinuzis

damn lupa already crying 5 minutes in💀💀

Bria A.

Greater morality aside or whatever, he saved the world — it just so happened that his world was that one girl. Is it selfish? Sure. Absolutely. But deeply in character, and not “wrong”. She’s a child. Humanity and loving people is complicated and messy and that’s the whole damn point lmao.

JJ

He only did the shit cause she reminds him of the child he lost and then he lied to Ellie’s face when she asked him the truth. Not letting one person die to save thousands if not millions of people is crazy. To rather live in a apocalyptic world when you had the chance to change everything is just…weird

Teyon Alexander

Pike giving birth like that….should have called for the Everlight or Captain America to save her again.

Jonathan Reyes

Well, here is what i think of your thoughts of the show…*does Lupa voice* “get the fuc…” 😂 nah all good. It was decent but i do agree 100% with you Roshi, waste of ep3 in my opinion. The story is about joel and ellie, we missed so much tension and drama from Bill, the university scene was whack, i dont mind they didnt do the tunnel at the end with the water, a flash bang was okay to adapt. Btw interesting detail, the house from the beginning is the one where Ellie and Dina ends up with lol

A. P.

This finale felt so short, I was expecting a longer episode, but the episode itself was still dope so it's cool. I can't wait for season 2, and I hope we get more action with the infected, I do agree it was an under-utilized aspect of the show. Y'all should check out Your Honor on Showtime or some of the Apple TV series, there's some really slept on shows over there like maybe Servant or Severance; or check out Ted Lasso if y'all wanna laugh and feel good.

VVenture

The real sneaky cameo is that Laura Bailey (Abby from Part 2) was one of the nurses Joel held up.

Trey

severance was so good, found it randomly and binged it in one night cant wait for s2

HeyImV

Agree with you on that one. Joel is doing it for selfish reasons and he shouldn’t have lied to Ellie in the end but another thing for me is we have been with Joel and Ellie since the start and we saw how savage the world has become, everyone can’t just come back from that. Let’s say we developed a cure for the cordyceps, Fireflies will not just hand it over to Fedra. With the cure in play people will now start fighting not just for food/resources now they will starting fighting to get hands on that cure. They might have killed Ellie and her sacrifice might be for nothing. Or maybe I’m just as selfish as Joel 😅

Grimm

I hated when discussing this show to people and they kept using the word "unrealistic" ,they used that shit so many times. When I said they could've made Joel more capable of killing. Not for action but to show his character is a savage killer that can kill groups of people and clickers. Him killing a "army" at the end of the show when he couldn't even handle 1 guy in episode 4, that is more unrealistic then anything. But agree it's a 8/10 for me but the game was 10/10.

Sughandi

It's naive to think that the fireflies vaccine would've changed everything. They have been at war and bombing innocents for years and are retreating out of QZs. They don't have the infrastructure to redistribute it to everyone nor would they want to just based on their actions as an organization. Even if they somehow distributed it to every living person, the infected would still be able to kill them and the slavers, hunters, and raiders are not going to all want to return to normal life

Carlos

Gonna be interesting to see how Mazin handles part 2. I actually think that story might work better in show form than it did in the game.

Bria A.

Also, yeah. Obviously the infected are the huge primary issue but like…even if a cure were made, society is still not going back to “normal” because human nature in times of suffering leans towards shitty and violent. In a power vacuum they’re still gonna have FEDRA and the raiders and the criminals because resources are scarce and people like going on power trips to feel in control. That is, if the Fireflies could even manage a distribution system (but I do like that they took most of the ambiguity out of whether or not a cure was “possible” to drive home that it was ultimately Joel’s choice and your decision to justify that, to agree with it, has to acknowledge his selfishness and moral grayness as a flawed character.)

Omar Bautista

I cant believe we witness Shera use her Sheragon to kill Joel

Real Kest

You think they gonna cry like this for the my hero academia episode too (Cah I did ).

spam protection

I totally agree with your points at the end there about there not being a balance between action and drama. This show was phenomenal and I loved watching it with you guys, but I feel like I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much had I not played the game. Just wished this show had more episodes

britt

i agree i wish they had shown how much of a threat the clickers and infected were. hopefully next season we get that

Dirty dan

Doctor thought he was the leader of the Port Mafia

Kamden Hatten

This show would've worked even better if it had 3 more episodes

Cleven Anthony

I absolutely agree I been saying for awhile they focused too much on drama ; it’s fine to hve it but an over focus of it in a zombie infested world is odd these last two episodes slapped tho

Pan Cakes

the die hard last of us fans are going to come after you for that comment. "this show is peak, and thats what last of us is about, you dont play the game for zombies 🤓."

Kevin

Agreed on giving the show an 8/10. Surprised you guys didn’t get caught up discussing whether you felt Joe’s decision was right or not. Sure the cure wouldn’t have solved the worlds problems, but it would have been a huge start in the right direction.

Kevin

Lol also full disclosure first(3 times) I played the game I let it sing in the operating room like a choir, but I do kinda wonder a bit more about what if Joel hadn’t saved her

Drake Rage

Both Ellie's acting and the writing lacking enough action to keep the tension going made me think the show started off great, but the 2nd half of the season fizzled out. If they had made cool episodes like that country where the infection first started, the friendly old couple in the middle of nowhere, and the gay couple and just kept with that theme and make cool episodes, that woulda been fine, but the main part of the story with Joel and Ellie was not too well done for me to become emotionally invested, and Ellie's acting/personality did not seem likable to me, it seemed like she was on a long vacation with how carefree she was for most of the journey. Being carefree and upbeat most of the time in a post-apocalyptic world is the opposite of "drama" which the show seemed to want to focus on. I still can't believe Ellie dropped a ladder on Joel, lmao.

Yahroh

I felt like the focused too much on character develpment on the WRONG characters. I feel like we sacrificed alot of action.

Pan Cakes

I 100% agree with roshie, all these clowns with their "dude its a tv show, 🤓" or "you didnt actually play the game if you think its only about zombies 🤓". THE ZOMBIES WERE STILL A HUGE PART OF THE SHOW, THEYRETHE REASON EVERYTHING EVEN STARTED. This aint no k-drama bruh . they couldve done better like in the last few episodes and the episode with the bloater. but most of it was just human drama

reeb

you guys should watch outer banks and/or euphoria now that this is done!!

Daaylen Watson

I agree with a lot of your points but I feel like the budget would just be too insane if they were to add more infected fights like you were saying, Not cheap to even dress up 1 clicker let alone a ton, Still has a great time regardless.

britt

roshi and sheera discussed joel's decision at the end of their recent gameplay of tlou2

britt

that's true but while ellie is hunting ppl down she does encounter them

John Cedar

Whether or not you think the doctor would have succeeded, Joel really made the show's title completely literal with the ending to this first part. These are officially the last humans, I think. We are watching humanity slowly going extinct now in this story, there is no long-term future anymore. The doctor being killed likely prevents any potential experimentation or cure through any means, ever. If you think Joel was justified or not, I don't think is the point. I think it was a cautionary tale about taking away someone's autonomy. You just can't be doing that, even if you think you're going to save the world. "The needs of the many" have historically been used as an excuse for some pretty awful shit. Marlene really, really fucked up. She didn't ask Ellie, she didn't ask Joel, she didn't let them say goodbye. And she didn't even think to ask how they now felt about each other after traveling for so long or what either of them would say, at all. Like with the sudden death of Henry, I think much of this could have been avoided if people had considered others at the most critical moment. Ellie did not consider that Henry needed to be able to say goodbye to Sam, Marlene did not consider Ellie's autonomy and that Joel and Ellie would want to say goodbye. Other people didn't even cross her mind because she was so caught up in the righteousness of her cause, which is incredibly dangerous. Thinking back, they foreshadowed this behavior with Marlene in episode one. When she kept saying "just follow fucking orders" when her team was hurt and confused. She is so blinded by her role and her cause that she seems like a war general, someone with unfaltering decisions, which we probably saw as a good leadership quality back then, but we see its failings now. There is no strength in dehumanizing others unless you are strictly out for yourself. Other people DO matter, which I think is a very large message of this show. And not on a civilization level, like Marlene is concerned with, but on an individual one, like Ellie and Joel are concerned with.

Drake Rage

Yeah the fireflies handled the situation EXTREMELY poorly, even though Joel might have doomed humanity. Marlene was like: I never wanted to become indebted to you, but now I owe you a HUGE debt for keeping Ellie safe and delivering her to us. Now fuck off, you can have a knife for protection but thats it, good luck surviving against the zombies out there, bye.

vesra

Now that I've finished the whole show I agree. Initially I thought that less infected made sense because of changing mediums from a video game to a show; now I feel that there should have been more infected throughout the show. It gives the world they're in more stakes, more tension in the moments where it looks like all hope is lost etc. I kind of see the show as like a summary of the game, with a bit more detail to flesh out certain things or make things more compelling narratively.

Isaac

People keep wanting more infected but their wanting more infected becomes a pointless because despite wanting that, they loved the series anyway. So no, there didn't need to be more infected. The show did what it was set out to do for all of us and was clearly amazing as is so people really kinda need to drop that gripe since it didn't ruin anything.

Anna Anthony

8.0/10 overall. Honestly, just grateful we have a live adaptation when we don't feel like hooking up the console, and it's shorter. Nitpicky things aside, I wish the acting was 10% stronger, more infected/action in general would've been nice... a few character changes irked me. But I'm grateful we have this adaptation, and grateful to watch both the show and these reactions. #stiercontent

Mervyn Larrier

I just want to point out that the surgeon was bogus as hell. Brain biopsies have been used to investigate abnormal brain tissue since the '80s. There was no reason to kill and dissect her brain. Hell, nothing ever works the first time, so all he was doing was murdering Ellie. From that perspective alone Joel made the right choice because them killing her for an experiment would absolutely mean everything was for nothing. Her getting a chance to live a peaceful life in the commune (shh, ik) away from FEDRA and the Fireflies is all any kid really needs

Lamaree Jackson

Not like they need a cure anyway, ain’t no zombies anywhere cause apparently “they’re the least important part of the story.” I guess spores were taken out just to get rid of the infected aspect pretty much altogether. They didn’t show us the cordyceps communicating with that swarm in episode 2 to show us something cool. It was basically to show all the zombies are on leashes in buildings and shit and packed away for us never to see. They should’ve stayed with cold openings. Showed random people doing things to show the state of the world (someone hiding from raiders, fedra protecting the gates of a qz from zombies, stuff like that)

John Cedar

Yeah, I loved the cold opens of humanity's downfall. They were a great way to pull us in.

Yo Ku

i wonder if they could have waited Ellie to live out her life until old age before giving her life to make the antidote

Twin Hallow

That's what im saying. Do they even need a cure like that lol. You can get across damn near the entire country without seeing much infected it seems.

britt

if he took a small biopsy he wouldnt have enough to test several times and then mass produce a vaccine if the tests proved successful. so he wouldve had no choice but to kill her to have enough for that.

Gabriel Jimenez

Or people could just state their opinions, just like you are doing right now. You don't have to agree with what everyone else thinks...nor do they need to agree with you.

john

My dumbass was so confused when Joel said he was the one who shot and missed. It didn't click that he was referring to when he first stitched the scar on his brow... a clear implication that he tried to off himself, and i was just thinking "oh so... he tried killing someone and missed?" which didn't make sense cause he was more than capable of taking lives which confused me even more like ????

Isaac

This is such an adorable clap back comment. You sure put things into perspective, ma'am.

Isaac

Doesn't matter. They were working off desperation and were willing to take the risk because nobody had no plans or thoughts or even had the opportunity to attempt this. Progress requires a crazy idea, trial, error and miracle. Why do you think we have what we got today? They did debatable immoral stuff to advance our medical needs and this is just another ( fictional) attempt at medical progress the people hoped for.

Twin Hallow

I 100% think the fireflys messed up in the way they did it. Yet I really think ppl give Joel way too much of a break for what he did. If any other character did what Joel did I dont think ppl would give him as much leeway. Two wrongs dont make a right an all that. If the case was they forced Joels hand he wouldnt be scared to tell Ellie the truth I fell.

Twin Hallow

Overall I agree with the 8/10 rating. I liked how they did it but dont see it as perfect like some. Some criticism is warranted. I agree that they could of done better with showing how their bond grew. They needed to show a bit more for Joel's decision in the end to make more sense. In the game youre with them for hours and see them surviving so it feels more natural. It has the whole ppl going through traumatic events together pushing them closer a lot faster. I feel like some ppl dont get that the action also gives characters growth and development.

Jr

Lupa crying before they even played the title screen has me dying bruh

Twin Hallow

I think in their eyes that would be way to risky. That would be adding a lot more deaths and possible problems. They just want to get a vaccine as fast as possible.

Novafan

it feels like they spent all their budget on the horde scene and the few clickers. If they had just added an extra episode or two they could have slowed down the pace and added more action and details. They did a good enough job with 9 episodes but man I really hope season two isnt this rushed

Twin Hallow

I mean we can only base if it off of what the show tells us. If that is the case in this world then that is just how it works. If the story says there is a possibility of a cure and she has to die we just have to take it at face value I feel.

Twin Hallow

or just allow ppl to have their own opinions. I dont see how ppl thinking differently hurts anyone. Saying its pointless doesnt make any sense. Obviously if ppl have some criticism that means they think the show has room to be better. You can like something a lot and still think it has flaws. I dont see the point of this comment.

John Cedar

If we're gonna throw morality to the wind, the most logical thing to do would be to imprison Ellie, study her, and infect pregnant women right at childbirth to make more immune children. Sure, that's about the most fucked up thing I can think of, but if your logic is that the survival of our race is all that matters, then there really isn't anything that you couldn't justify. I feel like a scientist/doctor that understands the rarity of her condition would spend months if not years studying her, because rushing it achieves nothing if she dies on the table and their first approach doesn't work. To someone with even a little bit of scientific/medical knowledge, it seems implausible that a good and altruistic critical thinker would do the last resort as the first and only choice. Every scientist I have ever met adds 50 qualifiers to anything they say, and says "I don't know" or "I need to learn more to find out." Like ALL the time, to the point of it getting annoying. That's kind of the point of science. But we don't know the state of desperation the fireflies were in, what resources they had, etc. So it's hard to say for sure.

Isaac

Logically yes but logically you can extract and study off a corpse too. They honestly were working off what was in her brain. They needed what was in her brain and needed only that to be preserved for years of study. Her being alive was decided as not being necessary because they really needed to dig in her head to get samples.

Jr

Fr, they think we're asking for 30 minutes of each episode to be straight crouch walking through dark abandoned buildings taking out clickers. Just reminding us that they're still a threat is enough. If they had 2 more episodes or so to flesh those things out this would have been perfect imo. Saw a comment saying that at this point they're questioning if a cure is even neccesary considering there's never any zombies around 😂

John Cedar

Yes but what I'm saying is no scientist I have ever met or heard of would make that decision that quickly. It hadn't even been a day and they were going to pull the plug on their only candidate. What if the cells would die immediately or become unusable when not connected to a living host? How would they know it would be enough for all the tests? There is literally no way to know that, especially in less than 24 hours studying a completely new phenomenon in human physiology. It's reckless behavior from people who are claiming to be thoughtful and pragmatic; scientists/doctors are far from infallible and make egotistical and short-sighted decisions all the time. And like, brain biopsies exist. Biopsies of the brain stem itself exist, which is risky but still a totally normal procedure. Needing to have the whole thing in a jar right now makes zero sense, unless you take into account this doctor might be underqualified, desperate, or delusional. Which is fine, that totally make sense narratively. I just don't think it makes the logic of the Fireflies justifiable.

Isaac

They probably had theories long before knowing ellie because obviously surviving doctors and scientists had to be making nonstop theories before knowing ellie existed. So try to factor that in too.

John Cedar

But this is the first time they've been able to study her cells in person. They didn't even know someone becoming immune was possible until a few months ago. If you've had theories for years, you would want to meticulously test and test before killing off your only viable sample. If you're factoring in your previous knowledge, then that previous knowledge about the severity of the infection and the rarity of her immunity should be used to help you evaluate the risk. And the risk is monumental, it's in direct opposition to their goal. Which is that if they don't do this right and fail, that was probably their only shot. So I just do not see any world where less than 24 hours is an appropriate amount of time with your first and only subject. Studies and progressions of drugs and treatments are insanely slow for a reason, even if you throw morality to the wind. It's incredibly difficult, obviously. Though I feel this is kinda an unimportant topic aside from just plot logical analysis, because it's not important to the message or themes.

EmoBurrito

The show could of benefited greatly with more episodes. The relationship aspect of Joel and Ellie didn't feel organic at all, would've loved way more interactions. Especially since the whole series almost entirely rides on their relationship. The dialogue and acting was good, the cinematography was fine, I'd probably give the show a 7/10. Started out great and fell severely short. On a side note, (SPOILERS for season 2), I have no idea how they're gonna do the action scenes moving forward. We didn't get to see "beast" Joel because they wanted to take the more drama, "realistic" approach. The next season would heavily depend on the action since its a revenge story. I'm guessing their gonna throw the "realism" part out the window, especially since the actor is going to stay the same. Idk how "realistic" its going to be to see a 5'1 female, that looks like a kid take out groups of men. Which is really disappointing because if the realism was going to be thrown out the window, then they shouldn't have deprived us of a more badass Joel like we saw this episode. But that's just me speculating about season 2.

Siddery

So Isaac, I love a cheese burger. Sometimes, I want more lettuce, but I still loved the burger. Your argument makes 0 sense.

Leandro Da Silva

Imagine growing up and just showin your friends and family pointing to an infant on TV and going “THATS ME”

Senjioh

Its very symbolic the VA brought Ellie to life in the game years ago and she brought her to life in the series, a very nice way to show that without her there is no Ellie.

cmbbosh

Should had been 12 episodes imo. Show was def rushed and they spent all their budget on building all those houses. We didn’t even need crazy hordes of infected, but just give us situations with them involved would had made this show a 9-9.5 easily

LUPASAN

BRUH SHE DOES PIKES VOICE LMAO WOW I HATE YOU, my brain turned snooth lmao

VlSch

Why the f lupa was crying at the start?

KeYo

i agree with roshi ill give it an 8. i feel like they totally took out the fear of infected in this show. im fine with the story telling and the drama. they only did like 1 swarm and that was with the bloater. i feel like there should have been multiple swarms and bloaters in this show. im not asking for boss fights but give us more scenes where ellie and joel have struggle to get to where they going. it was like oh we fought 2 infected and the boop never again. a montage would have been fine tbh if done well. like roshi said they were connected through "wifi" lol but never went back to it. i know its not a horror show but its like this is still a world full of infected and dangers. why have q zones then? if the infected arent really a threat?

Vongola Fiamme

how does this show kill off majority of the characters through the infected but you feel the infected isn't a threat?

Vongola Fiamme

because watching a mother who just gave birth realize they wont see their child grow up is sad?

KeYo

that is true but okay ill be more clear i just mean like joel and ellie's journey. yes alot of the cast was killed off by the infected but like in terms of joels and ellies journey it was too easy and stuff. i just would have personally liked more scenes where they actually were more in danger instead of having just easy passage through most of the journey. thats just me.

LelaniG

There's no antidote for fungi, she would've died for nothing and if they felt so superior in their decision why didn't they tell Ellie she'd have to die for the cure?

nickhaze

bro...that was a highly traumatic and emotional scene lmao woman just gave birth to a baby after fighting off infected, it was tense. The acting was really good too

VVenture

Mf’s really out here paying real world money to watch reactions and then getting mad at Lupa for reacting lmaoooo

Solemnity

Agreed, the amount of time Joel and Ellie spent together on screen felt like way too little compared to how attached they became. In the game, you spend much more time seeing them slowly become attached which is why it hit so hard in the big moments. IMO it doesn't hit nearly as hard in those moments in the show.

Solemnity

*SPOILER* I I I I I My theory is that it's not only a cameo but also she may potentially play her own character from TLOU2 which would mean it makes sense for her to be in the operating room.

Url Robbo

Sheera’s gonna regret saying go after the doctor doing the procedure considering thats Abby’s father😭

Solemnity

This one doctor being dead doesn't mean every single doctor on the planet is dead. Even if it means the last doctor on the continent is dead, there are more than likely still dozens/hundreds of doctors still alive in other places.

ogking31

Like u guys said at near the end about slow burner show. Vinland Saga is the one that defines what build up means and how each episode questions "what's next to this characters". The core of the series is about the infection which they didn't really explore that very well when it comes to the obstacle the two main characters have to go through.

Url Robbo

They’re already playing the second game on youtube, their caught up.

John Cedar

Uh, not all doctors are created equal, not all doctors are scientists, not all doctors had lab equipment and military protection to study cordyceps for an extended period of time, and, most importantly, no one else knows that it's even possible to be immune. Sure, it's not impossible, but I didn't say it's impossible, I said it's likely that there will never be an opportunity like this again. As far as we can tell, less than 1% of the population is still around, and the Firefly base is the only place in the US and possibly NA that is capable of doing this. I don't think Ellie will be traveling to Indonesia or France or wherever to meet the next viable cordyceps scientist. I'm not even sure what the state of the world outside of the United States looks like. Most doctors in this world are likely exclusively trauma surgeons, because that's all that's relevant in this world.

cami ً

I agree with the 8/10 rating too! as someone who didn't play the game, I watched tlou as a stand alone show and very much enjoyed it, but I still felt like the balance between action and story was lacking a bit :/ I watched the interview the creators of the game and show did not long ago, and they said they got rid of most of the violence in the show bc they wanted it to mean something and evoke certain reactions and feelings, which I understand, but when it's done every single episode it starts feeling a bit repetitive and you end up missing that adrenaline,,, but overall I think it was a great show and I can't wait for s2!

Derai Witt

I agree with this but I'll add that I've never played the game. So just from the show here I never got the feeling that the Infected were much of a widespread threat. It seemed if everyone had just moved a few miles out of the big cities, they could have lived out their lives without ever having even seen a single infected. To me, it feels like they really hammered home the 'Humans are the true monsters' aspect of it. So after a while, it became a generic 'After the end' story to me. Still a good one, but kinda generic either way.

Jonathan

lol Joel heard what was gonna happen to Ellie and immediately turned into Mando

Mad4Life

Damn we not even 10 mins in and Lupa already crying 💀

Mervyn Larrier

He can take multiple biopsies and space the timing out to support best outcomes. So again, he had no reason to kill her. Like, we use this routinely to diagnose brain lesions

Mervyn Larrier

They said this world was supposed to be parallel to our own in one of the post-eps. The technology is the same. Saying that because he said so it must be true is an illogical appeal to authority. He's just a hack.

Magical Drinking

Phenomenal adaptation that blew the doors off my expectations. I'd give it a 9/10 but only because the finale felt weirdly rushed. Not sure if that's just cause I've played the game and the pacing of the final chapter of the game is so engrained in my mind. Still, that's a minor gripe. Everything about the show was incredible. The performances, the directing, the set design and special effects, all of it was incredible.

Url Robbo

sounds like a you problem game been out😭 if they dont know thats abby’s dad 🤷🏽‍♂️

camille

Joel going up against the Port Mafia. This man didn't get hit ONCE.

TimTakDoh

9.5 out of 10 for me. The action complaint I’ve heard from some of the people who played the game is way too picky imo. This series was amazing. Last of us was never about the action. It was the story that made it and they did it beautifully. Bella and Pedro were perfect. Couldn’t have had a better Ellie/Joel

Jtrggrhappy

Love that they got Ellie’s voice actor from the game(ashley Johnson) to play her mother and the acting is chefs Kiss

Jason Yung

So severance is a great show if you guys like plot

Nasty

Can't connect with this ellie, everything she says feels so forced for her and out of character for her as a person. And would have been better if she actually looked atleast somewhat like Ellie from the game.

Drake Rage

literally, cause the doctor thought he was Mori-Sensei trying to fight Joel with a scalpel, lmao.

Drake Rage

Bruh I was surprised when I heard she is 19 years old, I really thought she was a child cause her acting ability was.... lol.

Bryson Abejon

NOOOO JOEL DONT KILL THE SURGEON NOOO

Aggtown_817

Show alone it was really good but not a 10/10 but coming from a gamer view and seeing how this and the Witcher are the only good gamer adaptations ever made this and the season 1 Witcher are 10/10 I pray this success will have them revisit pervious game adaptations and make a real attempt to do them justice. Assassin Creed would be an amazing one even if they don't do Ezio just do it better

Sheraya san

Roshi hates pushback for real 😭

Sun

So what’s after this? Tye and black lagoon ending this week too. Bocchi ending as well. We getting 4 polls or what?

antoine fernandes

Your complaint about her not looking like game Ellie is weird considering none of the characters look close to their game counterparts except Marlene. Only way they get a person that looks like game Ellie is if they go to Elliot Page, get him to dress like a girl and play Ellie.

Drake Rage

the dude said looking more like game-ellie woulda made it somewhat better, but the main issue was that her acting absolutely sucked, idk if it was due to the writer's directions or her own acting ability, but dam I definitely did not like her acting skills. I think Hollywood came out with too many bad movies the past couple of years and people forgot what good acting looks like, lmao.

BlondeSpud

Shout out to vex being one of the nurses!

TimTakDoh

Anyone who thinks Bella isn’t a good actress phew boy id hate to hear what they think “good acting” looks like. People are never happy and always find “reasons” to complain. Bella was amazing

antoine fernandes

Her acting was fine, she seemed like Ellie to me, this the first time I’ve seen any complaints about Bella’s acting on any discussion about the show and that includes Reddit and YouTube

Drake Rage

You do know she is 19 years old right? it is more insane to think she was a good/amazing actress than not, lol. Even the best actors usually become really good much later in life but you are saying she was already amazing here?

TimTakDoh

A 19 yr old cant be amazing? Like wtf lol ok. You are really arguing just to argue here Drake but you do you I guess ✌️

Drake Rage

If I were to make a comparison, I think it is that her acting seemed like "goofy"+ kristen stewart acting back in Twilight movies. Bella just seemed goofy most of the time even though the setting is a post-apocalyptic world, it just didn't fit in general, and even in serious scenes her facial expressions were pretty mute/awkward, like when she was taking care of Joel, she seemed zoned out even though she was supposed to convey sadness/worry

antoine fernandes

Bro there are plenty of amazing actors who are under 20, Jenna Ortega, all the Stranger Things kids, Dafne Keen, Joey King etc. Bella played the role perfectly all without even having played the game. I get it’s your opinion but I literally can’t see how anyone can have played the game and watch this show for 9 episodes and not see her as the perfect version of Ellie.

Drake Rage

I agree, but Bella ain't one of them, well I agree with Jenna Ortega being really good, but Bella seemed truly terrible so idk how people found her acting to be anywhere near amazing. Like I am worried about season 2 because not only her build/height lacking for what we saw in Roshi's gameplay for some of next season's events, but her acting seemed terrible to me, idk if we need to wait a while for "official" reports to come out about how this season went and see if I am just crazy or if she really didn't hit the mark. Oh by the way I don't think I saw any of the season 1 gameplay, so I can't compare game version vs this Ellie, I just thought the way Bella played her was not convincing in general for a girl growing up in a post-apocalyptic world, that would be my issue with her personality, then her acting was also just not good in my opinion.

earthphoenix7068

Who would win? One Texan man vs a couple of anarchists with guns.

Salmonero

Yeah let's wait another 60-70 years before starting on the cure.. so this one girl can hopefully live a full life in the apocalypse. Let some other scientists take care of it decades from now 🤨

britt

yea youre weird. everyone shouldnt have to play the game so they wont be spoiled by ppl like you

zILovePelmeni _

Mashle, Hells Paradise, Oshi no Ko, Dr. Stone are all in april. I dont think they will more than 2 polls

Ethan

"Ah so we have the only confirmed live sample of an immune person, an extremely rare specimen, what do we do? Keep her for observation? Take biopsies? Study her blood and confirm with other living doctors who may have experience with vaccines?" "Nah bro, just like kill her and take her brain and hope it goes well. I don't need a team of surgeons or working equipment, I'm pretty good by myself I gotchu" - A random firefly doctor No one else in that entire hospital questioned the logic on this one?

Ashton B

are yall gonna react to the Mandalorian? or are ya just ignoring pedro in that one?

Michael Pamon

To say that episode 3 had no impact on the story is a bit disingenuous I think. That letter Bill wrote to Joel most definitely had an impact on him opening up to Ellie more.

Michael Pamon

There’s no guarantee that the vaccine would’ve worked tho. Plus, even if the vaccine could be made, mass producing one would’ve probably taken a long time, and rolling it out across the world would’ve taken even longer. Plus this is a world that is 20+ years past the collapse of civilization. There’s no way society would’ve come back from that.

Reckless Company

I read that they not covering all of the 2nd game in season 2 they said its too much to cover in a season 2... so part 2 might be spread out between 3 or 4 seasons hopefully that happens so we can see alot more cool action

Reckless Company

fireflys are messed up they should have asked ellie if she was willing to die rather than make the choice for her lol

Jaelyn Mcgee

I'm curious if season two will give us those animal infected that the second game's concept art hinted at, since they'll hopefully have more time to split things up now

Ryan Hill

Hey Pike and Vex!

Teyon Alexander

So is it just me or was that Ellie and Dina’s home that Ellie was born in?

Eliana

Y’all gotta remember how Marlene left these two, Joel did not give af about Ellie in the beginning it was all a trade, he called her cargo 🤣 And hell nah they wasn’t gonna ask her, they finally “ found a cure” and it’s a human that is old enough to say no,threatening the cure, they had to put her to sleep. But honestly Ellie might’ve done it either way, she wants her life to matter.

William Zavala

the best episode in this series was the last one. Overall decent version of the story, looking forward to what they do with the second season.

Franklin wasn't getting away with 35mil scott free

Stupid ending, same as the game. The choice between saving the world and some snarky kid should have more stakes to make the decision a bit more interesting. The world remains ruined but at least I have a daughter again? lol

Umbra_Nex

The choice wasn't between saving the world and some snarky kid. It was between "a possible cure" that is more a vaccine than cure that wont really fix much, especially in a world where there doesn't seem to be much real threat from the infected besides in old metro areas, and a kid he has come to see as an adoptive daughter. Additionally, there is no guarantee that the Fireflys would even distribute the "cure" even if it does work. There is a very real chance that they will use it as a tool to gain political power and overthrow Fedra in all the areas. Most parents would watch the world burn to protect their kids. At the same time, there is rationale and logic in sacrificing one person for what seems to be a real shot at a vaccine so people don't have to fear infection as much... but that doesnt make the world that much less deadly and crappy... infected may not infect then, but they will still kill the crap out of people. Especially since it seems like the infected MAY stop attacking you if they sense you are infected, but Ellie's mutation doesnt stop her being attacked... so just how many people would the cure even really save? TL;DR - I believe there are a lot of nuances to be discussed with this ending and the question of stakes and whether there is even a good shot at a true cure and stakes of "a loved one" vs "the greater good", which can create interesting debate on what one would choose in that same situation. You may not like how it ends, but the sides are not how you summed them up.

HIM

Bring on "Andor" reactions! Never head Roshi say he loves slow-burns before, but I GUARANTEE it blows this and show AND hotd out of the water. By a lot. That aside, this was a cool ride with some emotional highs. Definitely makes me wish I could play the game lol

Kermit

No extra infected or episode 10 because they blew their budget on the bloater and giraffe /ˢ

These Plums

I didn't really read Ellie's depression as being down about the end but about what just happened last episode. I mean almost getting "R" worded and eaten would put a damper on anyone.

Ramone Moore

10/10 season love that Joel Wick scene

WindShinobi590

I gave it an 8/10 too, for pretty much the same reasons Roshi gave. I loved everything that we got and I don't think I'd remove any of it from the show (maybe except for Bill dying), but I wish they had more episodes so that maybe they could've left in some of the action sequences they omitted, like getting the car and battery with Bill, the tunnels with Henry and Sam, defending the hydro power plant with Tommy, Joel fighting David's people and then Ellie fighting David's people. I also felt the same about the infected. As far as I can remember, we had 3 episodes with zero infected, 3 episodes with literally one or two infected, and then 3 that had a good amount of them. Like Roshi said, even though we know better, it felt like there were hardly any infected. I haven't played Part 2 yet, but if/when they do season 2, hopefully they get more episodes and budget to show more action/infected.

Trist9n

YES they did the Giraffe scene lets gooo ❤

Austin

Interesting how y'all mentioned the David episode 3 episode. As someone who's never played the game, I totally agree. Was very invested in that episode and liked that one by far compared to the rest of the series. I knew who those 2 characters were and how their relationship developed while compared to the rest of the series, Joel and Ellie's relationship felt super stagnant to me. Like a road trip and we just watch what the weekly thing was gonna happen and not really impact a whole lot to their relationship or the overarching story

Immoral Mortal

i would have like to seen joel find the doctors recording about "past cases".

Spriggz

Those Fireflies should have drugged Ellie and killed Joel as soon as they caught them. Savage, but would have cleared loose ends.

Daniel Robb

Would have saved millions of lives too. They did a great job of making Joel look like the bad guy cuz in the games I feel that didnt really get across well.

Daniel Robb

I petition YaBoyRoshi edit down and post his & Sheera's TLoU2 gameplay and commentary on here lolol. Im so lazy. Was it on youtube or twitch?

Ethan

@Daniel Robb Nah Joel was in the right on this one, even if he did it for purely selfish reasons. The Firefly's would likely not have saved millions or even developed a vaccine. They found the only known living subject who's immune, and rather than protecting and studying her to gather data, they immediately went for fatal brain surgery to kill their only subject. You're telling me there's a high likelihood of successfully developing a vaccine with only ONE doctor and barely functional equipment? I doubt they could even complete the surgery considering an invasive surgery like that would require a team of surgeons rotating, not one dude. Even if they miraculously developed a vaccine and somehow had equipment to prevent her brain tissue/cordyceps from completely degrading on their first try, the Fireflys would not have the equipment, infrastructure or incentive to mass produce it. They'd most likely distribute it to their upper echelon and give whatever was left to the grunts, not the general public and certainly not anyone living in QZ's under FEDRA.

Seraph_Dalgon_

Kekkai Sensen or Durarara next up for trio? I'm them out there

Foxyguava

Look I know it's fucking stupid to save one person and sacrifice the whole of humanity... but realistically that doctor is fucking stupid. The doctor was going for an all or nothing approach on Ellie's surgery without a source for more chemical messengers if the surgery or study fails. Keep Ellie alive, take some blood, centrifuge that shit and study the blood. There are TONS of universities that would have at least a centrifuge to do that stupid ass shit. Keep studying the blood over time instead of studying it once and going "woops my bad can't test anymore cuz I killed the source" source: me studying science.. and anybody else here just studying, volunteering, or working a lab for just idk 5 seconds.

Phroug

Sheera you are kinda wrong about the end there. Whether they asked Ellie if she wanted to sacrifice herself or not, the end would have turned out the same. No matter what, Joel would have ended up killing everyone and saving their lives. Joel clearly already knew that Ellie would have wanted it to happen, that's why he didn't tell her about it. If he honestly thought she would have been against it he would have just told her exactly what happened.

Daniel NT

From what I remember from the game the surgery isn't a guaranteed thing. It's like have a slim chance it will work but only have one shot as donthsve others to work on. So saving her doesn't doom humanity as it probably wouldn't work anyway

Daniel NT

I'm glad they played the ending theme for the show. That hit so good in the game when she asks him and it starts playing

Blackbulls6

So was that Abby watching him from that one angle?

Joel Wilson

Pov Joel and Sarah would of turned into clickers if Joel didn’t forget the pancake mix in ep1 and the show would of ended in 15 min 😭😂😂😂

naomi obi

it does not whatsoever he was silent. u just got a problem with crying.

Amna Khan

29:55 Roshi felt that shoot from the leg.

KenthalasAT

The last of us may be the first of them. Ellie may not be able to be used to make a "cure" per se, but she might be the first of a new species that arises from us as a result of the extreme selection pressure we're being put under by a new environmental challenge. Speaking as a biologist.

Thomas

I agree episode 3 wasn't what it could have been. Especially the love story felt forced. A man who was there for so long alone just let a stranger in? Bill was so easily convinced? That's not the behavior of a prepper. And I agree it would have been amazing if episode 3 was about Ellie and Joel fighting against clickers and bloaters together.
