Canute is a savage

Comments

zILovePelmeni _

I hate the patreon player its always switching quality although the wifi is fine

SnailSpray

Im glad im not the only one who was hella impressed and confused as to why they animated the hell out of thorfins hands

Mozart Waddell

I can just tell my anxiety is going to rise every episode I don't see Thorkell. It's crazy how I don't feel safe around Canute anymore 😰 At this point just suffocating Herald in his sleep will be more meciful. That poison been doing years of work on his body. This is some great storytelling.

Mozart Waddell

If you're watching on mobile I recommend the web video caster app to login to Patreon and cast the video. Smooth 1080p playthrough and no drop in video quality.

ogking31

last episode Thorfinn was at age of 18-19 so he should be 21-22 here. As far as episode goes, Thorfinn and Canute are completely going the opposite of what they were last season. Which is really interesting.

Tyrese Marshall

Canute had the other king of England, Ethelred poisoned, then his son, Edmund poisoned. It's has to be his signature tactic

Shane John-lewis

this nigga thorfinn really forget about his whole muva and big sister lmao

Randy Petitmaitre

Demon: you know you finna go to hell right? Canute : I am in

DatKid_Kaneki

im pretty sure thorfinn probably thinks that his whole village got ran through after what happened. considering the timeline youd have to think of all possibilities

Dylan

This is great, now I'm waiting on the hardware Subarc though

Twin Hallow

People really like Thorfinn swearing off violence so im swearing off this show lol.

Mirrorline

I really hate that Cannute is just gonna become the same as the other evil emperors that have ever existed. Just replaced building an empire with building a utopia. smh there really is no love anymore in his heart.

Erica Collins

Interesting how Thorfinn escaped his hell and it seems like Canute is entering his. Slowly turning into his father

Anthony Argueta

He's a direct contrast to Thorfinn. Thorfinn has no enemies, while Canute views everyone as an enemy. They both follow what a "true warrior" is, except Canute's version is twisted compared to his season 1 version, which used words as his weapon. Instead of not using weapons or violence to fight, he uses indirect methods to cause death while Thorfinn swears off any form of harm. Pretty good writing tbh

Xan Acktor

What kind of mbs are you using and watch streaming quality are you set on?

Friendly Elites

Its phenomenal writing, Canute only became this way because of the time he spent with Askeladd, and before Bjorn's death the speech Askeladd gave Thorfinn about how he plotted to murder his father was useless to Thorfinn who gave up on violence but Canute who was listening to it as well actually used Askeladd's advice to climb the political ladder.

Theo Vorster

For those who are interested in reading along with the manga, this episode adapted the entirety of chapter 72, and the first 17 pages (out of 22 total) of chapter 73. In regards to the passage of time (which is more explicitly indicated in the manga) this episode takes place in 1018, with it specifically being September 1018 at Ketil’s farm (and since Einar arrived at Ketil’s during the early-middle Summer of 1015, it’s been a little over 3 years since he started working with Thorfinn to clear the forest). This currently makes Thorfinn 22 years old, and Einar 23 years old. Some trivia for this episode: the flashback scenes of Canute and Harald as kids playing are anime original additions (though Canute discussing how he and Harald used to play the ball game is in the manga). Also the man who Canute greets as Wulf (who is one of Canute’s loyal men) is likely based on the real-life Ulf Thorgilsson, commonly known as Ulf Jarl. Who in real-life ended up becoming Canute’s brother-in-law by way of marriage to Canute’s sister Estrid (who we meet in this episode as well). In regards to Canute’s final lines in this episode, the manga phrased it like this: “So this is it. Nothing to it.” The way I interpreted it is that Canute is trying to convince himself (and/or while also being sarcastic to himself) that the horrible things he has to do for his goal of utopia aren’t that significant/great a weight for him. Like he’s trying to convince himself that he doesn’t feel guilty or remorse for poisoning his brother, because it’s all for the “greater good” Canute is pursuing in his ambition.

Theo Vorster

I think you’ll actually be surprised (in a good way) where Canute ends up by the end of this season. Canute’s character arc is far more complex and nuanced than a simple “becoming an evil emperor” arc.

Theo Vorster

Though ironically in real-life history, Ethelred, Edmund, and Harald most likely actually did just die of illness (at least that’s the consensus of most historians).

this is one long ass username

Can someone clarify if they are aware of the information Floki gave Thorfinn in season 1 about Harald being the one that drove them off of Norway as he dethroned their past king? I feel like they forgot that part

Theo Vorster

Well to nip your anxiety in the butt/temper your expectations, unless some new anime-original scenes are added, Thorkell won’t be appearing again in this season/arc. His appearance a few episodes ago is his only appearance in this arc.

Mozart Waddell

😣 ahhh no more Thorkell this season. I might just switch over to the manga after this season. I don't think I can wait a possible 2+ years for S3.

Theo Vorster

You're misremembering a bunch of stuff. First off that was Leif who was telling that information to Thorfinn as a kid. Secondly, what Leif was describing was how Iceland was settled generations ago by refugees from Norway. The Harald Leif was talking about is a completely different Harald from many generations ago (and was the King of Norway not Denmark like Canute’s brother was). Most likely Leif was referring to Harald Fairhair, who was the first King of Norway (who basically created the Kingdom of Norway by uniting a bunch of smaller Kingdoms). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Norwegian_monarchs Completely irrelevant to the Harald from this episode.

PettyTeddy 04

I think he doesn’t feel worthy enough, he probably think they’ll despise him because of all the guilt he’s carrying

KeYo

im free but i gotta wait until you come back? -packs bags- that sounds sus

Mirrorline

I sure hope so. If not, what was the point of taking the crown from his father. His method is different but end goal is still the same.

nickhaze

Canute and Thorfinn essentially want the same thing, just they see different routes to getting to that thing. They both want a world of peace, without war or slavery. Canute isn't going to be evil, necessarily. He just sees the world for what it currently is, and doesn't believe there is a way to achieve peace without cutting some loose ends.

Zach Saltou

Wild how thorfinn is getting his emotions back while canute is losing his. I guess a kind king is almost impossible though because they would be walked all over in a time where power is justice.

Sham3ful

Feel like whoever's dropping the show might've forgot this wasn't a shonen & also Farmland Saga so far has been phenomenal

Mirrorline

What kinda world peace can be achieved when your method is going to other countries that are not even in conflict with you, waging war, find someone that can be blackmailed and then use them to kill that country leader. All that gonna do is harbor hate and more violence.

Mirrorline

There's barely any politics in this. Cannute is marching into other countries and waging war until he find someone that he can blackmail and use that person to poison the leader of that country. So he just killing everybody that are in his way in order to build his utopia.

Theo Vorster

I think you might be misremembering some of season 1. Canute did not “march into another country that was not in conflict with him”, Canute inherited the Danish-English war from his father. Sweyn had nearly completely pacified all of England before he got killed. But because Sweyn died, the former ousted Anglo-Saxon King (who fled to France) tried to take back the English crown from the Danish monarchy. Canute was responsible for ensuring the Danish monarchy did not lose control of England.

Mirrorline

Oh I knew that, what I meant was Cannute end goal is to conquer all the countres in the north meaning, he will invade other countries after England in order to build his utopia.

Mirrorline

But his revelation was to attone his sin so doesn't it make sense for him to go hack home? He have to go apologize to his family for hiding in his father ship and also apologize to Leif for leaving him for Askeladd.

Theo Vorster

Actually the historical Canute didn't instigate any armed invasions of other countries after Harald died. While Canute the Great later became King of Norway as well, it wasn't because Canute invaded Norway. In fact it was due to the Kings of Norway and Sweden deciding to invade Denmark that led to Canute winning the crown of Norway. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cnut

Mirrorline

Dude, I appreciate your explanation every episode but, I have been avoiding reading the characters real history in order to avoid spoilers for the show. So I always skip your explanation if there's gonna be future stuff that haven't been told in Vinland saga. So you explaining this is basically a spoiler for me.

PettyTeddy 04

I feel like that revelation last episode was him coming to terms and accepting that all the damage he made was “unnecessary” to stop himself from falling down the hole again but he still Carrie’s that pain and is ashamed of it but him going back and apologizing to them would be really dope if it happens

PsilocybinJunky

canute a dickhead, thorfinn farms, show is as good as season 1, halfway through the season with almost literally nothing happening at all....pacing is better than ever 100%? lol won't say the show isn't good but it fell off hard from season 1, character growth can't explain this this episode we kind of got somewhere, but MC has ptsd, i needed 9 episodes of farming to get it, can't wait for next weeks episode of farming simulator/character growth i guess......im sticking with it, but jesus christ i don't think you could tell a story slower at this point

Theo Vorster

I can assure you that what I just told you does not spoil anything in this series. What I just discussed doesn't come up (or at least hasn't so far) in the series' future. You only have to worry about potential spoilers if you look up stuff about the historical Thorfinn. After episode 10, there's basically nothing that the real life Canute's history can spoil about this series.

Mirrorline

Yeah I get that but it could still happen no? So in the future if you ever gonna reply to my comment, please avoid putting real life history of these characters and just use what information that have been told in the anime instead. Its one of my favorites show and I will definitely continue it by reading the manga so I really dont want to know anything about their real life history.

PsilocybinJunky

show fell off so hard, multiple characters didn't need 9+ episodes for us to understand they went through and understand exactly what thorfinn is trying to figure out, hopefully his wheat grows strong though im sticking with it, but compared to season 1 this actually sucks a lot so far, if it wasn't for season 1 there's zero chance i would have watched more than 3 episodes or until now for damn sure lol

Mirrorline

Thank you! Again, I really appreciate when you elaborate what happened in the anime by comparing it to the manga.

Kk

One of the best things about this show is Canute is becoming more like thorfinn in the first season and thorfinn is becoming like Canute. Thorfinn is a pacifist now and Canute doesn’t care about who he kills as long as he reaches his goal

Levi Blair

people dropping the show because the main character chooses non violence were watching this series for all the wrong reasons. Absolute clown behavior this series is way to good to drop over a characters well deserved development.

Levi Blair

@william you can not like it all you want but your reasoning in previous comments and here is still weak as hell. It was never about the violence and if you are just now getting that it says more about your level of engagement than it does about the show.

Bad Karma

To answer Sheera's comment: Canute planned for the poison to be gradual, and it is implied that the worker giving Harald something to drink is where the poison is (because Canute looked back as if to make sure he drank it). So, in doing this, Harald's health would gradually worsen and everybody would think it was a disease or natural condition.

Levi Blair

@William you keep commenting in Vinland videos despite claiming it sucks and all sorts of other stuff, what the actual fuck are you doing watching something you dislike this much yet consistently comment about? Like I pointed out elsewhere your comments are all showing you never understood the show from the beginning and are getting pissy because the part you mistakenly thought was the focus isnt actually the focus. Lastly no it didn't take 9 episodes to make that point you keep bringing up, a ton more is going on and the fact you cant see that shows you have absolutely no clue what your on about with the narrative. Its fine to not like the show but the points your making and ranting about make literally no sense and are comparable to getting mad at sweet candy because you want it to be bitter, it was never meant to be and its stupid to get mad that it isnt.

Knuckle's hair

Yall remember Canute's dream in the first season ? He says he wants to make the world like a paradise and now he’s doing everything in his power to achieve that. Also, in the previous episodes, Canute was praising Thorkill for being honest with everyone and he wish to live like that, and now we see him saying his dad head is the only one who can talk to with pure honesty ( which is himself )

SY MMS

5:20 are we forgetting that Thorfinn has a whole family who has not seen him since he was like 9 or something

K3NDRIC

PattleRacket😂😂

Cleven Anthony

Shounens aren’t the only animes with a lot of action. Y’all really dickriding people cause they don’t like the direction this anime went. Ppl like what they like & whether something is mid or not is up too the individual person not the many.

Hans Wurst

Really? People have dropped Vinland because Thorfinn swore off violence? What absolute clowns. If the main character doesn't have cool fights, then it's not for them? I'm actually getting angry over this. Have these people ever paid the tiniest bit of attention to the main core of the series?

Ben2730

Bro For real , he needs to get his ass and find his uncle who has been searching for him and get his mfking ass home , Einar is a b**** for not telling that he had a uncle searching around for him , and remind him to go home instead of asking his plan . Sir Your plan is to find your uncle and go see your mom and sister

Mexican Stalin

I love vinland saga because, unlike other stories and anime, it's not as simple as saying you swear to do something like become the next Hokage. Vinland not only challenges the protagonist's viewpoints but shows how they got those views in the first place. Canute's views of creating a better world are being challenged

Tyrese Marshall

So many people heard what Thorfinn said and acted like there would never be action again, as if other characters were gonna leave the series.

Tyrese Marshall

@Ben2730 Einar lost his family and became a slave. Leif may have made a passing comment about Thorfinn, but that was probably one of hundred men who approached him. It seemed highlighted to remind you of the character but its highly unlikely that Einar ever remembered

Fizzy

@levi Blair I literally said the same shit these niggas reasoning for not liking this season is stupid

Fizzy

Ong they really hating on a main character gaining development instead being a edgelord who fights 24/7

Fizzy

I said the same shit and some clown try to come at me saying you can’t disregard people opinions when they say shit like “oh there no action I am leaving” 😂😂😂😂 that a literal NPC comment

luckywizard

“People like what they like” exactly so stop attacking people in the comments and calling them dickriders for liking Vinland saga, a show doesn’t have to revolve around killing everything in its path to be good. “Don’t like the direction the anime went” The anime has always been philosophical, The very FIRST episode made it very clear of what Thorfinns end goal will be with his father being a pacifist and thorfine wanting to be a true warrior just like him.

LY

Twin Hallow probably thinks he's cool and witty because of that comment

Mexican Stalin

Sadly, people can't genuinely enjoy an anti-war story. It's fine if you enjoy action anime to relax but some of us want to learn and want to engage with different philosophies. And what does it say about us when we think the guy swearing off violence is crazy

Patrone07

A lot of clown ass this and npc…. or they probably enjoy that…. In a negative way statements just because some people aren’t entertained with the second season so they choose to drop it lol who tf cares its their opinion y’all say y’all like this show for reason like honestly, realism, humbleness, deep story, character development but can’t take someone else’s opinion is quite ironic it’s like seeing children pretending that their mature lol

Barion

I enjoy fights like the next guy (big One Piece fan) but there's plenty of anime to choose for that. I get if the story is to slow or if people are actually bored and drop it, but dropping it because it doesn't go the usual direction? The dialogue is great and season 1 proved that this story is masterfully told and has some of the most complex characters one could ask for. It's hard to comprehend how Thors was a universally liked character, yet his main point was always about anti-violence. Why did people like him? And why wouldn't people like Thorfinn trying to follow in his footsteps? But I guess people can watch whatever they like best,

Joshua

Yo can thorfinn make a pitstop at iceland. Just so his mom and sister know he's good lol

Garrett

This is self-defeating, and I hope to god you don’t think ur perspective is the “mature” one lol, b/c, again, self-defeating. The absence/withholding of judgment (your position) isn’t any better than being overly judgmental. Bad/good entertainment exists, it can be/will be debated on, and there are right/fair and wrong answers/reason.

Nihad Nassr

I'm someone who prefers the later manga than S1 so I agree with you. but you can't just say someone is in the wrong for preferring the action in S1. each to their own

Levi Blair

@Nihad Nassr I didn't say they were in the wrong for preferring action. This series isn't about the action so expecting it to be focused on that and then dropping it when it isn't saying the show sucks now is just clown behavior. I mentioned it elsewhere but getting mad that this isn't a action focused show is like getting mad at sweet candy for not being bitter because you like bitter it makes no sense. People can prefer action all they want but getting disappointed in a seinen drama series for not being an action series is the behavior I'm commenting on. Plus if people didn't see this coming with the constant anti-violence messaging of the first season that's on them for somehow not understanding the point the series has been making since the beginning.

Oliver

A Warrior does not need a sword, because the only battle is inside your head

Devin Osborne

Aye, Lupa with the Double Dragon drip

MrOuijaII

I wonder if through the multiple poisonings is it still on brand for Canute because he is achieving his "utopia" but with the minimal amount of collateral death, truly a necessary evil. They have not shown too much war during the skips just threats and backstabbings

Dale Cooper

Anyone who leaves because we don't have fighting are literally peabrains. Love farmsaga arc because it weeds out children.

Patrone07

Lol nice try that was cute but again your reaching so bad I made my statement there for I gave my judgment and my opinion on the matter notice you said good, bad entertainment can be debated on which falls on your opinion just like everybody else saying you want to drop a anime because of said reason isn’t a fucking debate lol it’s their choice like i said before your like a bunch of children tryna act mature

chris dacon

Canute took my mans revenge now he finna take his freedom too...tuff

Patrone07

Self-defeating : serving or tending to defeat oneself or itself : COUNTERPRODUCTIVE: such as a : acting to defeat its own purpose Please if your gonna use a word atleast know what your talking about when using it

Moisty Justice

To not like where the show is going is fine. If its not for you then cool, but the reason for uproar is their only complaint is the lack of action or Throfinn's vow. That isnt good critisim just whining

ok

Does everyone in the comments also watch this bootlegged instead of with the official subtitles? I've always assumed they watch the actual versions then use another version for the patreon like they have said they do, but recently it seems that isn't the case? It's throwing me off

ok

yes they have completely forgotten. unsurprising i mean they forgot the people cnute poisoned from like 3 episodes ago let alone s1. it is what it is ig haha

Coping McCoperson

Keitel casually going to the corner store to get a pack of smokes never to be seen again

Godrick

bro hateful 8 hit so hard on Netflix. I saw it in theatres and it was okay, but the full episodic version on Netflix is a straight-up masterclass in storytelling

Levi Blair

@Garret your point was made as well as possible but this guy won't understand anything you throw his way, for your sanity just know you've got a point but some just won't hear it.

Patrone07

Your right I don’t support bullying in any form you guys have no point lol if I said I like apples but hate oranges and you call me a clown that’s not a debate that’s you just trying to belittle somebody else based on there opinion sounds familiar xD just admit it you guys are emotional over a anime bullying people who don’t share your opinion period

Godrick

for the anime only people droppin the series cuz they dont want to see thorfinn become a pacifist, they have no idea how hard this story boutta go. The action is aboutta hit like a 10 ring pimp

Godrick

Canute told that previous farmer we saw to poison the king of England, then canute poisoned the prince of england, now hes poisoned his brother the King of Denmark. Canute don't fuck with that Honor shit

Senjioh

Writing and animation is one thing but I really hope some of the action comes back in.

Rocksolo

My boii has a whole mom and sister this man just for got about them 🤦🏽‍♂️😂

Pax the Casual

Vinland Saga Season 2: A man of peace becomes a monster while a monster becomes a man of peace. Truly an interesting direction that this anime is taking.

Giyuu

its funny lupa says that cause i just watched the hateful 8 for the first time last week and now im picking up this series again

Bird

9:34 I love that Lupa doesn't want another story beat. I'm here for the wholesome farmland saga as well lol.

Manny

Lol @ 2:42, you must have found that axe since March gang, proud of you!
