My first thought in regards to Genya was that he got demon blood in his wounds and that turned him into a demon. That is how Nezuko was turned and it seems Upper Ranks have enough of Muzan’s blood turn people since that was how Gyutaro was turned. I hope we get a flashback to Genya’s fight to see how he got to that point. I feel like if Genya was a demon before this fight it would have be after the selection test since that was the last I remember seeing Genya outside in light. Both others times he was inside and at the hot springs Nezuko was also there so I think this a new change. A demonized demon slayer with a gun and a sword sounds like an interesting fight.

Roshi was thinking what I was thinking. The wind hashira was even harder on tanjiro and nezuko than anyone else. also iirc Kanroji told tanjiro that the wind hashira said he didn't have a brother and when genya went to find his sword he said "aniki" clearly reminiscing on something. so i think whatever happened to genya caused a deep rift in their relationship. maybe that's why he was so insistent on getting his sword as quickly as possible after final selection. I also think it probably is related to injuries and/or emotions because at the end of the Mugan Train movie when the crow was delivering the message about Rengoku's death Genya was with the stone hashira and I'm pretty sure the chant he was saying when he was injured is the same one the stone hashira kept saying. so maybe it's something that helps him maintain control. like his own version of woosah.

Sword whips are used in a very neat performative martial art in India, I'm 90%sure that's where her swords inspired from. I'm also still pissed tanjiro sees "the samurai with the earrings" but still can't link it back to his dad's dance. Also it's pretty cool that coal tanjiros familly were coal burners, coal goes from black to bright red when you heat it up enough.

There are no well-developed characters in this show. I feel like that’s kinda of the point - an iconic shonen protagonist surrounded by a bunch of cardboard cutouts in a ultra-compressed sakuga festival. It’s a good formula for all ages, but beyond Tanjiro, there isn’t a character with even a kiddy pool’s worth of depth.

Smithing takes a lot of time and energy, watch blacksmith videos and you will see, just because you can make a tool doesn’t mean you will be able to use it right away, they would have to learn how to properly use the blade and how to destroy a demon which takes time away from being a smith; just cause you can fix a sickle doesn’t make you a farmer

I think the four guys are still alive because when Tanjiro did his thing, it was a clean cut. But with Genya it wasn’t as clean and the guys jaw was missing so I think maybe instead of cutting with the sword, he might have ripped his head off instead which wouldn’t actually kill him since we’ve seen other demons knock each others top head off and be fine because it’s not with a sword. That’s my 2 cents

Knowing how to use a sword does not mean that they can slay demons, Tanjiro literally trained for 2 years straight just to become your run of the mill demon slayer, and that was with a former hashira. There was probably a compromise between the smiths and slayers that they focus on there craft and in return the slayers will give them full protection from enemies. Also the village is never found which is another reason the smiths didn't need to work on fighting or defensive skills.
