Movie quality show! Love how this episode set up the journey!

Fireren will be Mondays going forward!

Comments

L.C.

This series will be able to cover up my crackhead withdrawal symptoms from not having any more mushoku tensei for a while. Its an amazing series and so far the anime is amazing. EDIT: Ok so I saw on certain sites it was a month wait but then I see on others its every week continuing forward. Which one is it?

DIOR

1-4? Oh we eating GOODDDDD

Stanley

Y’all know castlevania dropped right

L.C.
>>118660460

Legit does anyone have a real concrete answer. I don't wanna be hyping myself up for the next episode dropping if it turns out I have to really wait a month

N1ckv3n

The opening of Frieren is done by Yoasobi, the same ones who did the opening of Oshi No Ko, they always make amazing songs.

Shiroja

Wait first episode is almost 2 hours? Is it like oshi no ko where the first few episodes are all together?

FreshxEli Tv

Fine I’ll watch it I’m not really a Fan of Women Mystical Elf Type Mc Anime’s But I know for sure The Gang Will Force Me Into Loving This Show 😂😂

L.C.
>>118660957

I didn't care much for it. It sounds a lot like the oshi no ko opening. I think a different artist would have fit the series better. The ending is great though.

FreshxEli Tv

As a YouTuber I hate that I can never Watch these openings with Y’all until after I react to them 😭 the struggle is real

Pedro Barrera
>>118660689

I wonder what can be s3 really about, I mean the story kinda close with the s2 finale 🤔

wavyesper

The best anime of the fall is here and YOASOBI is doing the op😭 it isn't fair how they let her drop the best 2 openings of the year. Anyway this is gonna be a beautiful journey

JsnSkg
>>118662045

At least one of the best. I'm more excited for Undead Unluck.

JsnSkg
>>118661024

First ep was advertised as a 2 hour premiere, but crunchyroll has it as four episodes. From what I hear, it's not even crunchy that decided to do it that way. Some complicated behind the scenes shit, idk. It's whatever lol. As long as we're all on the same page as to whether next ep is E2 or E5.

Huemon Nottabear

I didn't know this was getting a series, I'm fucken hyped

BargainJesus

This is one of my favorite mangas - I'm glad it got its adaption

danial javady

I always thought it was hard to write a story about a species that would live really long lifespans because obviously we don't have elves. But when you think about it, one reason of why a lot of people don't want to get another dog or cat after theirs pass away is because it's they don't last long enough. You get attached to them and love them like they're your child, only for them to live for 10-20 years. I'm guessing that's similar to what an elf would experience. I wouldn't be able to stand all that grief, it's too much.

wavyesper

I'm fucking dead Lupa really said Roshi’s gonna walk into the room when Sheera’s secretly writing the script for the shows they watch😭😂

zILovePelmeni _

Ngl the future arcs are so damn good i forgot that the goal of this journey is to talk to himmel again

Donovan Doyle
>>118660687

Gen v being pushed back a month or so just so they can keep 2 baki a week so the fans don't riot

Didier

Oh wow, I was just gonna ask if you were gonna react to this and here it is.

Didier

The only problem I have with this story is that the first chapters promise you a tragic story about aging alone and witnessing all your friends die before you, but then the story turns pretty quick into an uneventful slice-of-life comedy with overly stoic characters, as if the author had forgot about the premise of his own story. I dropped the manga after around 30 chapters. Now I'm just curious to see if anime-only reactors will be as disappointed as I've been over the future seasons or if this story will finally start taking itself seriously.

John Doe

React to gen V please 🙏

zILovePelmeni _
>>118668066

you really dont know how to read huh. frierens regret is not wanting to know humans better why would the author then decide to NOT expand on that ? you said its the premise of the story man i cant

Son Gokhan
>>118668066

That's an incorrect assessment of the story It is about how a mere 10 years could have a greater effect on her life than her thousands of uears before, it's more about the value of life and bonds not the length of them

Erd'na

Yeah this probably one of the hype series for this season. The only series more hype up than this is probably Pluto. Since that one is made by Naoki Urusawa. If you didn't know him, he's the one who made Monster. Back to Frieren, yeah read this one a few months ago. I'm liking the anime, it seems like they are faithfully taking from the source material.

Slussh

anyway to see how many comments a patreon video has? have not been able to since the update. all i see is load more comments now

JsnSkg

Frieren herself is voiced by none other than Atsumi Tanezaki (Anya Forger, Vivy). Himmel is voiced by Bakugou's VA.

JsnSkg

I really like how the pacing of the show, as well as the dialogue of Frieren really gives you a feel of how she perceives the passage of time. But harping on her for not showing emotion is wild af. Just cuz a person doesn't show an emotion, doesn't necessarily mean they don't experience it. I'd have told those fuckers to mind their own goddamn business and let me grieve my own way.

Sakib

y’all most likely reacting to castlevania but can we get gen v too

LivingStory134

that whole beef about whether it was fifty or fifteen years got me weak lmao

Frieren: Character names and their meanings – An essay The German language provides us with insights into these characters, offering subtle nuances that enrich their characterization. Frieren, denoting the concept of freezing or experiencing coldness, intriguingly aligns with her demeanor, marked by an air of detachment, introversion, and aloofness. Furthermore, it symbolizes her timeless existence, akin to being suspended in an unchanging state due to her extended lifespan. Himmel, the German term for heaven or sky, is a choice imbued with profound significance. It complements his personality as the first party member to depart, juxtaposing his easygoing and amiable nature with unwavering dedication. In his role as a beacon of inspiration, his influence on fellow party members is undeniable. (You might notice that Frieren and other characters are often looking into the sky when thinking about Himmel) Heiter, representing the German ideals of cheerfulness, amusement, and the brightening of moods, harmoniously reflects his own disposition. This alignment between name and character requires no further explanation. Eisen, the German word for Iron, manifests an apt correlation with the archetype of a warrior and a dwarf, renowned as master blacksmiths in various media portrayals. Eisen's name harmonizes with his character, typifying his robustness and formidable strength, while also evoking his inherent stubbornness and audacity, emblematic of an unyielding iron will. Fern, signifying "distant" in German, aptly encapsulates her proclivity for maintaining a certain emotional detachment, particularly in relation to individuals beyond her inner circle. The geographical distance stemming from her orphaned status, originating far from the Southern Lands, reinforces this connotation. Moreover, her mature demeanor can be traced to her unconventional upbringing, marked by the perpetual responsibility of caregiving for Frieren and the early loss of her parents and Heiter. There are also the character design and color theory I could go into, but as you might’ve guessed – They usually correlate to their names and personalities in certain ways. Most places and other characters also have German names, I did not feel like going into their meanings though since they are not as important as the main cast. If you have any other questions, please go ahead and ask, Sincerely a German Frieren enjoyer.

Timmychunger

the math is 10,000 years I'm guessing she's 3-4000 years in so she still has mad time left.

Franklin wasn't getting away with 35mil scott free

She said that she barely got to know Himmel in the 10 years they were travelling together, how do yall then imagine they were somehow a thing, and especially when she took 50 years to visit him once like hello?????

Dajhaya Jones

Are y’all gonna watch Tokyo revengers on Oct. 3rd???

Steve
>>118675533

obviously, but theyre watching a ton of shows rn, give them time, theyre also going to be reaction to Castlevania Nocturne.

KeYo

as soon as I saw that she said shes coming back in 50 years and that she aged slowly I knew where this was going. lupa and roshi called it because I was getting to your eternity vibes all over again lol. also I'm a lord of the rings lover so I know in that lore dwarves live hundreds of years but could it be the same in this lore also? because I think he might be able to live hundreds of years too which is probably why he ain't dead yet

supakame

Low key exposure to that evil horn gave Himmel cancer

And it’s two consecutive cours, just in time for Mushoku Tensei to start up again

DANIEL PEREZ

the feels you gonna get from this

Jarren Jenkins

I've always liked shows that portray long-living species like elves or vampires from their perspective. Brings up the question of is immortality a curse, or a blessing? I really like this so far and Frieren's character. Excited to see where this goes!

Alex cleveland

My god, my cheeks aren't ready Roshiiiii for these 4 eps altogether 😩🙏🏽🔥🔥🔥

Dyastro

I listen to alot of modern Japanese music, and yeah.....the steel drums are very popularly used......across alot of different types of musicians/genres. They're all so cleverly used too! Like a completely new way to use steel drums too!

October Veil

Already loving the vibe of this show

Gilthwixt

That thing about Frieren being 500 years old and still broke, a common thread in a lot of these fantasy stories is that our short life spans is what drives Human ambition, for better or worse. So things like desire to leave a lasting legacy, innovation, and fighting for social progress, but also greed, a need for instant gratification, and apathy for the environment. Frieren not being interested in accumulating material wealth is very on brand for Elves, both because she literally has all the time in the world to get it, and because she's not worried about retirement or old age.

Didier

Religions tend to portray places for the afterlife (Heaven/Hell/Purgatory/Valhalla/etc) as another dimension, so Fantasy tales that portray it as just another place on Earth are interesting. It seems common in Japanese Fantasy stories.

Coatl45
>>118682202

In my opinion, that depends on one’s personality and goals. If a person has an eternal childlike wonder, that never gets tired of seeing what the world has to offer, then they might do well. Similarly, if someone is always able to focus on new goals to pursue, then they may never grow tired. Of course, considering that elves are born immortal (or at least ageless), they likely don’t have as many problems as we would if we became immortal.

ERRORCODE616

I wonder if we're gonna get to see more flashbacks of Frieren's time before her journey to defeat the Demon King. She was alive a thousand years before that--or more--with Flamme. Would be interesting to see if the relationships she had formed and lost during that huge chunk of time were why she was the way she was with Himmel, Heiter, and Eisen.

Coatl45

In D&D, it’s common for elves and dwarves to believe that you can’t truly know someone until you’ve known them for 100 years, and D&D elves only live for about 300 years. Imagine how elves that live for thousands of years feel. Plus, we don’t know how many humans she’s been connected to in her life. For all we know, she’s been holed up in some forest for the last 1000 years after she finished her education with Flamme, and Himmel is the first one she’s really connected with since then. So Himmel’s death might actually have been the first time she had to physically confront the mortality of humans.

Alexander Brown

What's 10 more years! I can always start again, make a new party!

Hi How are ya
>>118661038

So you don’t like shows where the main character is a woman, mystical, or an elf. That’s oddly specific but ok bud

Didier
>>118668066

I admit you guys' points sound coherent with the story. But unfortunately that's not how most Frieren fans sell it. If you enter "Frieren" within your Youtube searchbar, the first videos that are gonna show up are either videos with thumbnails showing Frieren cry over Himmel's death, or videos entitled "How it feels to lose everyone (sob sob)" or "This is the saddest manga you will ever read (sob)". So either 70% of Frieren fans never read past the first chapters, or that's the main argument they like to sell to new readers, presenting Frieren as another To Your Eternity when it's actually not. Even Roshi was convinced it was gonna be a really sad story before starting the reaction, because that's probably what he heard about it (and he didn't cry once if you haven't noticed lol so it's not just me). I've seen every fan hyping it saying "This manga made me cry so hard, can't wait to see it animated and cry again" as if this was some tragic tear-jerker story, but apart from the first chapters I don't remember reading anything worth feeling emotional about as it was mostly slice of life with comedy. Even the moments when Frieren cried almost felt forced and out of character to me tbh. But I don't hate it. I find some parts of the story to be wholesome, the art is beautiful and the animated adaptation feels relaxing. And the characters can feel human when they're not busy acting like stoic one-lining statues. I think the Iyashikei vibe is gonna work better in animated format for me. I don't hate it, I just think it's slightly overrated for the wrong reasons. Of course as a fan you're totally free to disagree, but for all the Frieren fans hyping it up as the new Japanese revolution of the Fantasy genre, I expect all the hype to die around season 2 (as Iyashikei enjoyers are just a minority anyway) and the upcoming adaptation of Dungeon Meshi to be the closest to take that spot.

Emiliano Ruiz Chong

Clapping Roshi Time: The meteor shower is every fifty years. The old man was saying that he hasn't seen that shadow dragon in twenty or thirty years.

HollowedSlayer

Just here for the Roshi pile on. 50 years buddy.

Oh Alone

I think Flemme gonna know about the rise of Demon King in the future, but her life span won’t long enough, so she trains Frieren to beat him. After that she also knows Frieren gonna be sad, so she prepares for her love student as well

SoggySoup
>>118668066

I mean understandable, but that sounds like the expectations you made prior weren't met not the expectations the manga gave you.

The GoDKing 27

Yo these niggas made watching this so much more hilarious 🤣 Thanks y’all

JJ

This is just like to your eternity

Amos

Day one recommending Barry on Max, great show y’all would love it absolutely.

Sy'mon Almeida

how sad that would be to see all your loved ones dying from old age for centuries

FreshxEli Tv
>>118661038

If you really watch anime you’d Definitely understand my point but you don’t majority like almost all Woman elf mystical characters are always either slaves /outcasted or just flat out sexual for no reason 😂 so yes I stand by what I said with no bias it’s just a ANIME NORM

HalfroSamurai

The Final Fantasy X laugh had me dead.

sin™

Lupas laugh in the beginning 😭😭

Hueki Yuuki

I have cried, so many times while reading Frieren, one of the best Mangas that are out there in my opinion.

Skebaba

Frieren truly likes to occasionally sip the dumb bitch juice, as you can see from these 4 episodes so far

Maxy7maxy

I think after Himmel passed away Fireren regretted she didn’t know himmel. So that spiralled her to get to know heiter and the dwarf guy after knowing them she regrets not being able to know himmel so she’s trying to figure a way to know him. And that’s why she’s so obsessed with himmel only.

Ash

Get's lasik. Can't read.

Skebaba
>>118682202

Yeah Frieren would have been just fine if she didn't do a brainlet moment & ganged up w/ normies. No wonder we haven't see any other elves, they prolly fucked off somewhere rather than see those pet-tier entities dying within months or w/e

Andres Holguin

in the intro it says evan call, he's the composer who also worked on violet evergarden

Eric Stormbringer

I love this reaction and this show. Y'all were at your peaks- Roshi's sardonic but often accurate analysis, Sheera and her Sheeragan and Lupa's iconic humor. Looking forward to more!

Stanley Labissiere

« Sheera just get off the couch » 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I VisiBomb I

actually glad I watched this one alone before going here. not because the reaction is bad or something, in fact I write this before even watching the reaction. it just seems like the kind of show you need to watch for yourself and experience it alone with your own thoughts before you watch it with other people.

GraffitiTurtle

they got the Violet Evergarden composer for this? oh this is gonna slap so hard

AlbinoDINO

If you guys liked this, I highly suggest watching the anime movie Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms. It’s a sad movie but also very sweet and this anime instantly reminded me of it. At least just a Roshi and Sheera reaction.

Fizzy
>>118749338

these type of animes you gotta digest yourself to get the full experience honestly

David D
>>118749338

I couldn't agree with you more. This show is something else.. it's beautiful, and it really just.. makes you think. I'm glad I saw your comment, and watched it myself before watching the reaction. Thank you for that.

Sam

Hadn't heard of this and I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the watch, guys.

>>118674460

For the record: 1/100th of her life not 1/100th of her life span. (Source: Manga)

These Plums
>>118674460

I believe mangaka is going the Tolkien route with elves. Can't die, stops aging at a certain maturity, but can be killed.

These Plums

Regarding the end discussion, would you stop living your life the way you want if someone you just met (even if you get on well with them) has 1 year left to live and you have 100 year of youth?

Nabi
>>118668066

> the first chapters promise you a tragic story lol they never did. You were probably just gaslighted to believe that, somehow. It was never a tragic story to begin. I've been reading the manga since there was only 17 chapters out, then only in recent years it was peaked by YouTubers, and they started to hype people into thinking it's a tragically sad story. It is sad, but not that tragic, it was never been that way. Another thing, even if you want to make a tragic story, you need to have long SoL moments to properly know the characters, so you could care about them. Just look at CLANNAD, the first season and the beginning of the second season was just SoL and comedy.

godUsoland

The Sheeragan stays strong! Sheera's secretly a Freelance Scriptwriter in her day job

godUsoland

Thank you Roshi, I'm with Lupa. I never would have put together the Moss with Tarzan's ability to slide on trees lol

Mateo Castaneda

Loved Y’all’s reaction should listen to the ending

LucidLeshen

I took the lesson from the sunrise arc as it not being about seeing the sunrise, but about seeing it with someone and/or Frieren seeing her companions' smile. Himmen wanted to see her smile.

Aziouss

Sheera needs to be stopped before we end up with minority report. some pre crime bullshit.

B Mowglli
>>118749338

Yeah I seriously cried the first 2 episodes watching alone, but here with the crew making jokes/predictions (which I love and appreciate) - it's just way harder to fully get sucked in the story with the amazing vibes and music buildup. Might also have been from watching this on youtube which always has stuff edited out. Again, not hating on the reaction in the slightest, but it's definitely better the first time watching alone

em

1h40m of bangers holy shit

JadonTheEternal

To be fair, Himmel was more like 80 when Frieren went back, because their adventure was ten years, assuming they started when he was like, 20ish, that means he was 30 when they finished minimum, +50 more, so he's pretty old.

Jordan Postle

If it was 10 year to make it to the demon kings castle then wouldn't it have taken them 10 more years just to get back?

mothercookie

for anybody who wanted to know . she said "our 10yr quest was not even 1 of 1 1000th of my life that puts her over 10,000yr old. she is one old women

Yoori

I don’t really understand why she didn’t stay as well if it’s not long to her. And idk, even if 10 years isn’t much to her it’s still 10 years around the same people and you still don’t know much about them like…ma’am what were you even doing in a group. Animation and story is a solid 8 for me rn. That intro tho is a whole 10 😌

DevoidOfThought
>>119438208

She said “not even 1 100th” not 1000th which would put her at somewhere over 1,000 years old. Which makes sense given she was trained by Flamme 1,000 years prior.

3LD3RDR4G0N

NAHH when ya'll talked about the straw hat I actually died bruh

3LD3RDR4G0N

Lmao Frieren really just did all the sidequests before fighting the boss so she was overleveled

V
>>118673637

Kinda lowkey curious on the other symbolism explanations 😅

SoggySoup
>>119463052

I'd imagine mostly because she just straight up didn't think of how old he'd be and just wanted to search for grimoires and shit.

SoggySoup
>>118685341

Possibly given she didn't look at all younger when she trained with Flamme. But the only verifiable number is that she trained with flamme about 1000 years ago. So anywhere between 1000-2000 probably.

Vextipher

Even more fun watching with all the references you all are throwing in, too good.

Arc

The hooks on Eisen's ceilling are literary used for hanging pots when cooking :D

Nononanon
>>119307842

Well, i would imagine they were fighting a bunch of demons along the way. And getting back was much smoother.

Alex
>>119463052

I think it's the fact that she had over a thousand years of living before meeting them, and seems to have been around for ages even when she knew flamme. So she kind of developed an apathetic attitude and doesn't really value time or take the initiative with anything. Why bother rushing to see a sunrise when you can check it out anytime in the next couple thousand years? Think about how many human beings she's seen come and go in all that time.

HIM
