Loved the entirety but Second half of this episode was amazing

Comments

Prime

LET’S GOOO

Raider

Just in time

Desert Penguin

As a musician, the pianist segment brought me to tears multiple times

kingBD

Just had to make a poll for sub or dub huh? Lol

fili0938

No dub. Sadge

King of New York

Haven't gotten a chance to start this yet but I think I can soon. Naoki Urasawas works are unreal. I'd love it if you guys reacted to Monster after this even though it's pretty long

Ayodeji

OMFG I CANNOT WAIT FOR YOU GUYS TO REALLY GET INTO IT IM SO EXCITED

PJ Rivera

I’m a sucker for unique concepts in anime especially when its a globe trotting all around the world story. Japanese highschools are cool and all but they can get a tad repetitive

DIOR

God I just love it when y’all post peak

Dyastro
>>129801206

The Japanese have an opposite view from, say, westerners. They love their high school days, while not a single American, for example, would want to go back (even if they peaked in highschool)

Darion Wilson

have they seen the marvels already?

Kisuke01

I also never seen watched this show but the first episode being an hour long is giving me PTSD

Bob Denver

This made AOTY for me, Glad you all are finally getting into it

Panda

Pluto is here, we eating peak tonight. This was my AOTY personally even being a JJK degen.

Pucki

yeah this and vinland saga season 2 were my favourites last year

Pucki

btw this show is a re-telling of the most famous astro-boy arc the author of Monster took this arc and put his own spin on it

zacharie garondo

7:35 Im French and no here we say « police », polizei is the German word for it

Jeim
>>129803465

Facts after rewatching in sub, dub feel more real

metronxtdoorr

urasawa one of the goats! so glad y’all checked this one out

Anorak

The way they animated Lupa was crazy this reaction. Gotta be rotoscoped.

Champion Bescos

Let’s fucking go! A little disappointed that dub lost, but it was a poll and that’s life and now we move on. The sub is still exceptional and the story is top tier. Can’t wait to go on this journey with y’all. Lmao, I knew Lupa would bring up iRobot 😂

ComeTseMe

Yall are in for an AMAZING ride! This is from the same manga author of the show, MONSTER (also on Netflix; amazing show too), from Naoki Urasawa. If yall love PLUTO, should DEFINITELY watch, PANTHEON, has similar vibes and awesome writing

Kingmakaii

Imagine getting heal of yo trauma just to get to traumatized again cuz that robot not ever coming back home that’s sick😭

Kami_Psy

Speaking of Astro Boy as Lupa said in the end, Pluto is actually a reinterpretation of the final arc of the Astro Boy series.

Abdulla Almheiri

idk if anyone else mentioned it but when roshi mentioned the guy going blue honestly its just probably the colors being weird. its the biggest critcism of the show is just the colors and cgi sometimes looks super weird. But the story more than makes up for it

Boogie

we getting ep 2 tn???

Infinity

sheera brain was overcooking this whole episode.

Jonathan Sessoms

Damn great anime glad you guys don’t know what this is base off of good at times to go in certain anime’s blind

nocomprendo

Gesicht is from Germany, Mont Blanc is from Switzerland. This anime is a reinterpretation of an Astro Boy arc, and Atom who you saw at the end is Astro Boy himself, in Japan he has always been called Atom.

zILovePelmeni _

Japanese name for Astro Boy is Atom. Pluto is based off of Astro Boy

Champion Bescos

Tried to describe Pluto to a friend when I suggested it. I said it was Astro Boy meets True Detective meets BladeRunner (moreso 2049). Like, it has a lot of things that may be familiar or well tread within the genre, but it’s all done with such an excellent eye for ethos and pathos and written with nuanced characters and ever relevant themes, and featuring the best animation and music and voice acting etc, that by the end it’s something wholly and uniquely original. Wish more people gave it a chance.

Lash

Gesicht is from Germany (it’s pronounced polez-i btw). Mont Blanc is from Switzerland and north no2 is from Scotland. A lot of traveling takes place in this show so keep mind of that

Unok457

Remember, robots have rights. It’s highly likely that they do not want to be copied or rebuilt. It could be an ethical issue. If you rebuild a person, are you really bringing them back? Or are you just copying them?

Oscar Barcelo

I was super invested in the second half of this. I love stories that have to deal with AI, like vivy, and Detroit become human. It’s always neat how we humanize and can empathize with robots, but that’s only due to the amazing writing so far. Can’t wait for more

Chandler

Why does this show remind me of Monster for some reason lol.

earthphoenix7068

Inuyashiki or Ajin for some dark seinen after

Aye Jaye

Ok ok hold on, they said they were going into this blind....does that mean Lupa just accidentally correctly called Atom Astro Boy? If so that's hilarious

Nrock23

Never thought a show about Astro Boy would Make me cry but it did especially in the last two episodes

godUsoland

Time to go watch Ep 2 myself lol. I've been meaning to watch all of this

Darrion Reed

You all will like this show I’m sure of it but please watch monster a lot of people don’t even know about but it’s from the same creator of Pluto

YungZeus

Lmao, Mitsuhiro Robitussin.

Cameron Williams

Shogun should replace the bear before anything

Eli Gi

Sheera’s Robomer flew over their heads lmao, I died 💀

Stephen D

Casual Black Jack cameo

Champion Bescos
>>129810536

Monster is top ten for me, but I’m afraid it’s too dated animation wise and too meticulously paced for them to choose to react to. Some shows just don’t translate as easily to the reaction formula. :/

Christina Scarfeo

Same author who did Monster and 20th century Boys! Absolute legend

LisMM
>>129801206

Please explain why there are so many damn American movies and series set in high school then genius. 🙄

Bria A.

Europol handles international and organized crime in the entire European Union. “Polizei” is German, but Germany, Austria, and Switzerland all speak various dialects of German. If the detective isn’t just country-hopping (very possible, to be fair; Western Europe is mad small in terms of surface area, pretty much all of Germany and half of every country surrounding it fits inside of Texas alone 😅), then they’re likely in Switzerland since that’s where the Mont Blanc case happened. But yeah — I’ve never read it, but Pluto is (genuinely, no cap) essentially Astro Boy fanfic.

L1NG

We get ep 2 today as well or nah?

Isaac

M3gan would have thrived here since people treat robots like actual people.

13

I was wondering why tf North No.2 felt so familiar. Didnt know this series was based on an arc in Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy. The entire episode my dumbass kept thinking of Griffith

Ashes2Ash
>>129809847

I think he was making a joke that "oh a kid robot? astro boy lol" but it is very funny

Amna Khan

This is giving me Vivy vibe.

Zoe

RIP North #2

Kyle
>>129810536

Same here. Had to watch this series when I realized the art style. Monster is amazing, but way too long for them to react to :(

LiquidXGravity

Funny that Roshi said "Tesla Model Omega". I work for Tesla and that is the name of the model coming out in the year 2028

Carlos

What a masterwork of a series. Still need to finish Monster, and maybe someday 20th Century Boys will get adapted.

Jason I.

Wait, when Lupa called Atom "Astro Boy" in the end, was he making a joke, or do they know? In case you guys didn't, as said in earlier comments, Pluto is literally a reimagining/gritty reboot of Astro Boy, specifically one of the arcs, and Atom literally is Astro Boy.

rolf hoefler

I will say, as someone who religiously watches with original Japanese audio, the English version of this is gas

Shiroja

In regards to why they don't just back up their data to make a new one; I feel like it is to simulate a human life. These robots have whole lives, jobs, spouses. I think it is so they can be as close to human as possible. At least that is the way I think about why they wouldn't back up memory and make a new copy of their self.

Trey
>>129818972

maaan century boys anime is a muuust maybe throw in sakamoto days

Ryan Keith

should be watching the dubbed version imo

WAY
>>129822255

yup a huge part of the story is about humanity and the value of life.

Jaelyn Mcgee

This reminds me of another series that adult swim aired called Android Kikaider: The Animation

Delinda Arts

They’re gonna really wish they watched the dub instead of sub as the show progresses 😂

john segun doe

Really wished y'all watched the dubbed. But the Sub is great too. So is the 2nd ep being uploaded on friday?

john segun doe
>>129825798

Look i watched it in Dub and it was amazing like REALLY GOOD but the Sub ACTUALLY also hits. I don't think they'll notice it cuz sub is also fire

Tatzuo Kyota

i heard "hear me out" and was waitin for sum fuck shit

Stephen D
>>129811163

Yep. The unlicensed doctor who often charges an extremely high fee for his services. The glimpse of the outfit was another give away.

HIM
>>129808480

Po-lee-tz-eye. Little t sound sound when pronouncing the 'z'. The "i" is pronounced like "eye".

roshiwig

fucking got me depressed towards the end

LelouchFam

Lupa doesn't even realize his astro boy joke lmfao... That literally is astro boy 😭

Ghost_Troupe

Lupa with the random "Astro boy" is hilarious

Ghost_Troupe
>>129811163

I love how they added him. Wouldn't mind seeing Urasawa do a Black Jack anime too

Ghost_Troupe
>>129808521

Also can't be. The AI is separate from the memory. It has something to do with the og Astro boy story and why Atom was so similar to a real boy.

danial

These two couple watch too many tragic show "yes, he died after playing piano"😂😂

Mubarez Ahmad

Gesicht is such a weird name, it literally means "face".

Tortoise Of Legends
>>129827963

Nah honestly the sub is kinda falling a bit flat in the first episode. Delivery is okay for most characters, even if the japanese actors struggle with non japanese words, but the translation is whack. Dialogue feels unnatural like it's machine translated.

faded
>>129837369

Most names in Frieren are also random German words. Japanese artists somehow like to use German in their mangas.

faded

Lupa was right. Polizei is German

Champion Bescos
>>129813813

😂😭 Astro Boy fanfic is a wild, but you’re actually - essentially - right. Lol. It’s interesting how conceptually fanfics can be all manner of successful. Fifty Shades of Grey is a notorious and awful yet successful fanfic of Twilight, Pluto is a thoroughly wonderful love letter to Astro Boy, and some people say critically acclaimed works like The Name of the Wind have its roots as a Harry Potter fanfic. It just makes you wonder what other works are out there that are more or less revised fanfics, though I suppose few are as blatant (yet great) as Pluto.

Bria A.
>>129813813

I know plenty of fanfics that have developed into their own media properties (granted, usually changed, because unlike this show they don’t usually get permission to reference the source so closely) — not all of them are good by any stretch of the imagination, but some are lightning in a bottle.

LiquidXGravity
>>129818922

I'm not going to lie it is a little rough you need to have a strong mind to work here. Depends on the people in your team I have a good team so it's not so bad. I have seen people frustrated sometimes cry because of how rude some bosses can be. Surprisingly it's very unprofessional I've seen people walk around with naked anime girls and women on their shirts and nobody say anything to them.

LiquidXGravity
>>129818922

But the really good thing you get stock package and after 10 years you can take so depending on where the price is you could end up a millionaire

faded

This episode was so good, i’ll gonna continue watching it. Can’t wait for the next reaction

Ougi

As for why they don't just upload robots brains to the cloud its the same as why we can't rlly download ppls brains. What they keep on the cloud would be just a copy, sure u could rebuild mont blanc with this copy but the original died when his "brain" was destroyed, it' wouldn't actually be him. Like if I download my brain and put the downloaded copy into a clone it's not like I'm in the cloned body, just a perfect copy of who I was at the moment the copying was done.

Wsgyan

Police in French is police lmao but yes his name is German

Sidney Louis

Will Pluto ep. 2 be uploaded today?

Giyuu

How tf are y’all so confused by this? It’s like Drake being upset that niggas are making A.i songs with his voice it’s artificial it doesn’t take skill hard work or time that’s what he’s upset about he literally just said “just upload the data and now you can play any score” he’s salty” because he’s feels there’s no need for him to make new music because robots can just generate it now technology can just reproduce any sound .. thats why he said it’s not like he can’t make music he doesn’t want to give the world music anymore. Yall niggas be too busy making jokes 😂 and laughing at random shit it’s obvious why he’s upset imagine if they let a cyborg play in the NFL and then give him MVP 😭

Justin Spencer

about that time for a sad anime i guess lol i watched this over the course of 48 hours was def a good watch but for sure a dreary anime

Ranginald Vagel

Waiiit I thought this was gonna be cool not make me tear up

Imari

Warm cereal slaps wtf is this hate 💀

Mubarez Ahmad
>>129837369

I know lmao. Being able to speak and understand German makes watching anime really din sometimes

halinton williams

Crazy how lupa called atom astro boy on accident and was completely right 🤣

Yungin 2Cold

Lupa be going like 2/20 with these jokes LMAOOO

Iago Leonelli
>>129810536

Monster is a classic and that alone brings a bunch of viewers. Semblance of sanity reactions to it were great. The reaction formula is very simple, if people like it, they will watch it. It is not about animation. I am very sure there are a lot of patreons and subscribers that would love to see it but we keep getting nonsense brainless shonens and whatnot just because it is what is airing and unfortunately most people watching reactions are young in general so that is what they demand. However like I said, Monster would do very well too. Also, they are already a very successful channel and they can choose not to always chase what is the most views-efficient show to react and they definitely should do a favor to themselves and watch some of the older and more mature classics

Rakudai

Gesicht means face, it is German yes

Rakudai

It felt alot like Monster, no wonder cause one of the writers was on it : )

Stanley Labissiere

Crazy this man took an Astro Boy arc and fleshed it out into a masterpiece

SoggySoup

I feel the second half needed more time to make Duncan's sudden dickhead personality reversal more justified. But otherwise decent episode. Probably not going to continue though.

Ragdefender2

This was a surprise favorite! Loved it so much and excited for you.

DJ Muldrow

I think lupa had more lines than the characters 😭 bro yappin

Christian Owusu

Please use the other subs y'all missing alot

DarkGodHao

That storm aka the clappening......EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!!!

Millie Long
>>129913711

"one of the writers"? The creator and author of both is straight up the same person, Naoki Urasawa. To say one of the writers worked on both is an extreme understatement. Sorry to get aggro, but I must fangirl for him as he's easily my favorite mangaka of all time, between Monster, 20th Century Boys, and Pluto all being among my favorite reads.

ok
>>129810718

But we been asking for Vikings or Succession for a min where did "Shogun" come from

Jordan

if yall fw this, monster will be worth checking out. Urasawa is literally considered a national treasure in japan for a reason 😭

Jeremi Monroig
>>130084790

Some people say that Monster is not good for reactions since it is a slow burn, but I would love for them to at least give it a chance.

Francisco

If yall like this watch psycho pass. So damn good

john segun doe
>>130084790

Slow burn but its an amazing show. I mean they watched season 2 of mushoku tensai and that bih was sooo slow

Tirzah
>>129856202

You're absolutely right. It's the Ship of Theseus idea: is something the same after having the original parts replaced? If you've seen WandaVision, they also talk about it in the last episode with Vision (Wanda's creation) and White Vision (SWORD creation).

Godrick

you imagine having so much money you just buy somebodys house cuz they pissed you off? Actual "fuck you money"

A-ARON

might already know this, but atom is astro boy, this is a retelling of astro boy in a way

Jazko
>>130084790

That was only 12 episodes gang😂😂😂and it’s a fantasy isekai not a slow burn

Movamp

I really hope u guys react to monster as well

ok
>>129934809

I think he means the Netflix ones because these are dog shit in comparison. But as far as I understand it they often use different subs for the posts but watch it in the better version. Although that isn't always the case so idk

Wild
>>129934809

Yeah they watch the anime thru sites like Crunchyroll, funimation, etc and the video we get is from a site that could potentially be downloaded I think

Wolf
>>129856202

That’s the exact same thought process I had when Roshi made that statement. From the way they shed tears for that robot, it’s obvious that they seem them as their own individuals and not just machines. If I was there, I would’ve said “Well Roshi, what if after you died they downloaded your memories into a clone and sent it back to Sheera. It wouldn’t be the same, right?”

Derek Ferguson

I couldn't stand waiting for Pluto to drop on Youtube so I had to subscribe. Now, time to binge

General Grevious

Wait, is the unlicensed doctor a reference to Monster???

Ghost
>>131613539

brodie ive been binging so much shit since i bought the patreon the other day its unhealthy

Able
>>131679210

close! Urasawa who did monster and pluto was actually depicting another series from OG Mangaka, Osamu Tezuka, called Black Jack, which is about an underworld doctor. Tesuka is also the mangaka of Astro Boy that Pluto is based on.

Jarren Jenkins

Damn I really thought North was going to be around for a bit. Even after 30 years of watching anime I still get got thinking characters are going to last lol

Dyastro
>>129801206

Are you replying to me? If so, not only do i think that the actual demographic of people who watch that stuff in the usa is very different and much younger than those who watch anime in japan. But i also believe that the amount of high school focus shows and movies still doesn't match up to the sheer amount that is in Japanese media. Also, you could just research this; on how the japanese might view adult life vs the americans might view it. Like on reddit or some shit.

Charlie baker

Good call luoa shit is literally an adaptation of an astroboy story arc called the strongest robot in the world and atom is quite literally the Japanese name for astroboy

Mr. Man

Damn this is what sub sounded like? I mean it’s good, but all it shows me is how much they cooked with the dub.

saiki k.

i loved monster so im excited for this
